Bringing 3D camera data into Motion

I want to import 3D camera data into modo. Specifically, I want to use Luxology modo 3D with Apple Motion.
The only 3D app that I heard of that can do it was on a recent thread about Cinema 4D:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2138373
My question is... are there any barriers to this happening? Is Motion's camera keyframe data in a hidden format? Is the information about Motion's keyframing kept secret, or is it openly published?
The reason I ask is that if the information about Motion's keyframing is freely available, then I could ask for help from programmers (knowledgeable in modo 3D app) to make a script that could do it.
Does anyone know how C4D managed to do it, or how that came about?
It would be in the interests of Motion if it could support more 3D apps. In fact, it would generate so many new sales that Apple should pay to have it done! Possibly Collada would make a good intermediate format, as it is open-source and well supported among 3D apps.
But if it could be done via a script, that would be wonderful.

Yes, I'd like to take the camera keyframes from Luxology modo, and bring them into Apple Motion.
Imagine you create a beautiful 3D scene in your favorite 3D app, then you want to add some text to it, floating in space. It would be great to bring the rendered video into Motion, as a backdrop. Then we just need Motion's camera to track the same direction as the original 3D camera did, and it opens up a whole world of type possibilities, using Motion's text engines.

  • Importing camera data into motion.

    Hi,
    Does anyone no if it's possible to import 3d camera data from either realviz, boujou or maya into Motions' camera.
    Cheers

    Howdy,
    The folks at The Pixel Farm have made a Motion export module for PFHoe/PFTrack that will write out cameras or entire scenes. As for Boujou/Maya/etc: Motion's project format is all XML, so you could write a script that converts from those other formats into Motion camera data.
    I've been debating writing a Maya->Motion converter, as every tracking app supports Maya, so it could be used as an interchange format. I just didn't know how many people would really have use for it.

  • Bringing FCP video captures into Motion

    Im doing a project where I have captured video in FCP from a mini DV camcorder. I captured the video using the DV NTSC default setting.
    These clips need to come into Motion in the highest quality possible.
    What is the best protocol for bringing those clips into Motion?
    Do I export the footage out of FCP first and then bring that file into Motion?
    Do I drive to where the Capture Scratch is and import the clip from there?
    Do I need to turn on HiQuality Video setting in Quicktime Pro on the clips Im bringing in before I use them in Motion?
    Thanks.

    Take your elements (clips you want to use), stack them up in the video layers select them and ctrl-click on the stack and select Send to Motion project. Select the imbed Motion Content flag and the the Launch Motion flag. Don't worry about High Quality settings, don't worry about capture scratch - just let that be behind the scenes/under the hood stuff.

  • Exporting 3D Camera data into C4D doesn't work properly.

    When I export from AE into C4D, the resulting file data doesnt seem to work properly. I have weird rotations where there shouldn't be and the camera shakes all of the place.
    I have installed the C4D Importer Plug in from Maxon but just using the CIneware Exporter plug in that comes with AE CC 14.
    Any thoughts why it doesn't seem to be working correctly.

    same problem here, with a camera linked to a null object, which is actually moving, not the camera.
    In C4D (R14 studio) the movement goes wild, i's not what it's like in AE CC2014
    Anyone please ???

  • Stitching iPhome camera pics into motion video?

    Hello, all ...
    OK, so taking pictures with the iPhone SDK is easy enough with the UIDevice class. However, I want to stitch these pictures together to form a video -- MJPEG i'm thinking would be the easiest, though if I could make an MP4 out of them, that would be even cooler. Does anyone have a clue on how to do this? Apps like Cycorder do it ...

    Oops ... the official SDK doesn't allow direct access to the camera other than through the image picker. My bad.

    I have experience in intergrating project accounting to the general ledger in a data warehouse using discoverer to show the results.
    The solution I developed for my compnay is to ensure all entries from all sub-ledgers including manual journal entries are moved to the data warehouse tables have project information based on PA autoaccounting rules.
    The company I work for was interested in viewing reports that cubed cost centers (dept's.) to projects and to translate all entries (not just account balances) to USD for thier foriegn set of books. So, projects can be seen company wide in USD at lowest entry level. The solution I gave them solved the problem and they are able to view reports and evaluate costs by cost centers and projects on an enterprise wide application.
    If this is what you are looking for let me know.

  • Exporting ProRes conversion of HDV into Motion 3 darkens image

    When I export an HDV clip from FCP into Motion 3, apply Optical Flow frame blending, then export to FCP as an HDV file, the brightness and saturation of the resulting QT HDV file are essentially identical to the original. But when I begin by exporting the original clip to ProRes(HQ) via QT conversion or Compressor, bring the ProRes file into Motion and afterwards export to FCP as HDV, the resulting clip is considerably darker (and maybe more saturated) than the original. In the QT conversion, I'm not applying any brightness or contrast filtering. Any clues about what I'm doing wrong?
    Alfred Guzzetti

    hi,
    why do you need to convert the codec into motion and then back again into FCP. Why not send to motion from fcp keeping the same format, and then drop thew motion file itself onto the fcp timeline and use it as a clip. ( although the need to render it everytime something moves can be a pain I know). I find that the less codec changes in a work flow the better.

  • Bringing xml data into flash

    I would like to know how to bring xml data into flash.
    Specifically images that someone can click on the thumbnail and
    view the larger image. please can anyone point me to some tutorials
    or sites that i can start to learn how to do this.
    thanks.

    Hi
    First of all, read every thing you can in Flash Help to get
    to know the different methods of loading XML.
    XML can be loaded with 'built-in' components or parsed in
    Actionscript, the Help files will explain both.
    Next - Google for 'XML Image or Picture Gallery' you'll find
    plenty
    Hope it helps

  • Bringing an Illustrator Logo into FCP/Motion

    I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to bring some Illustrator logos into Photoshop and then into FCP and Motion. When I bring them in they look squashed and out of proportion.
    I know about changing the pixel aspect ratio to D1/DV in Photoshop before bringing them into FCP, but no matter how I do it they still look slightly squashed.
    Can anyone out there take me through the steps of doing this. It would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ray

    Try pasting the logo into a photoshop file 720x540. Then change the image size to 720x480 (if you're working in dv or 720x486 if uncompressed.) Uncheck the constrain proportions box. It'll look squashed in photoshop, but fine in fcp.

  • Bringing php data into flash file

    I've got a php file, below is the code from it:
    <?php
    $dir = "photos/";
    // Open a known directory, and proceed to read its contents
    if (is_dir($dir)) {
    if ($dh = opendir($dir)) {
    $fileList = "";
    while (($file = readdir($dh)) !== false) {
    if ($file != "." && $file != "..") {
    If ($fileList == "") {
    $fileList = $file;
    else
    $fileList = $fileList . ", " . $file;
    echo "&newVar=$fileList";
    closedir($dh);
    ?>
    it returns a full list of files in a specified directory on
    the server.
    I need to pass that data into flash, so that it can build an
    array, and do
    other things with it.
    i can use:
    loadVariables("filename.php", "");
    and then create a text box with the variable value of
    "newVar" and it will
    display the file list, but I can't seem to get that string
    into a workable
    variable that i can do things to it.
    could someone point me to how to do this, or let me know if
    you need more
    info on it.
    thanks.

    I'm able to get the list into flash as it's currently
    written, but I can
    only get it to display in a text box instead of haveing it in
    a format that
    i can do things go.
    fileListArray = fileList.split(",");
    I've been using this code to split the php's return into an
    array of the
    file names. I just can't seem to get it to work with the
    loadvars/loadvariables stuff.
    for example, the below code works perfectly:
    var fileList:String;
    var fileListArray:Array;
    fileList = "01.jpg,02.jpg,03.jpg,04.jpg,05.jpg,06.jpg";
    fileListArray = fileList.split(",");
    when i try to display fileListArray[2] as the above code is
    written, it
    displays the correct .jpg file name. i just can't seem to
    find a way to get
    the php's return to work the same way.

  • Importing 3D object into Motion - what format?

    I'd like to find out what formats motion supports for 3D objects, can't seem to find it documented anywhere...
    thanks,
    George

    Save yourself the hard work, Noise Industries plugins have access to camera data from within a plugin.
    http://www.noiseindustries.com/
    Anything imported into Motion results in a flat plane, but taking the above information could help in giving the contents a pseudo 3D effect.

  • Transferring XSI camera data to AE7

    Seems like you should be able to do this, but I have yet to find anyone who has documented how to successfully do so.
    Seems like you should be able to either render out an RLA and use it natively in AE7, or use an XSI plugin to create an .aec file (Cinema4D file that exports as an AE7 comp) which (supposedly) has camera data.
    The .aec file imports fine, but doesn't seem to have camera data. Maybe it does, but nothing is showing up. Do I need to do anything further to use that data? Do I have to set up a second camera? Do I have to configure anything further? Currently, all the .aec file seems to do is set up a comp for the footage it installs... much like just manually dragging the imported footage onto the Create Comp button.
    The MindThink plugin supposedly works too (if you even need an extra plugin), but there's no documentation, and seemingly the few people who have figured out how to use it don't seem to want to actually say HOW they got it to work... much like the original creator, it seems. So, it's effectively useless to me.
    Can anyone outline how to use this (...and not just point me to another forum of people saying 'Ya, I can't figure it out either')?
    Hope you can help...

    Well, not an XSI guy myself, but using other 3D programs regularly, allow me to present my thoughts. I would look into the following things:
    - Is the camera at the root level of the scene?
    - If it's inside a hierarchy, is there a way to bake/ convert its motion to world coordinates?
    - Baking may also be required if it is targeted or has any additional animation controllers/ custom attributes.
    - Do the channels required for baking neeed to be added to a special channel set/ selection set/ parameter group?
    - Is it perhaps a special camera type whose parameters cannot be properly translated simply 'cos there is no equivalent in AE?
    Beyond that I'm only aware of some set of VBScripts/ AE Scripts that I have seen float around somewhere on AEnhancers.com. Maybe you can dig them out and get some help from the original author...

  • Any way to import multi-layered Illustator file into Motion?

    I have an Illustrator map of Europe and i would like to bring it into Motion.
    I know that Motion can import Illustrator files as pdf but is there any way to import a multi-layered illustrator file into Motion. I just saw this web site regarding a Motion plug-in that claims to do just this:
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16298/layerlink

    Without a dedicated plug or FxPlug, Motion has no inherent ability to parse Illustrator layers.
    We just bust the layers out and save them as individual files. Or, of course, we use After Effects.
