In system-config-network the options to set a static ip address are available once you switch off DHCP.
Please mind you need some basic knowledge of TCP/IP in order to setup a TCP/IP based network... There are various sources on the internet about this, I strongly advise to read about it.
(especially if you need to route your home network to the internet)

    Tarik,
    This procedure worked great!  After adding the HWADDR parameter to the eth0 config file and rebooting the server, we are now able to access the server on the network again.  Thank you very much for the quick reply!
    Here is the procedure if others need this.
    ifconfig -a showed the eth0 interface was renamed to _tmp462132856
    [root@MSE-CPW-01 ~]# ifconfig -a
    __tmp462132856 Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:15:17:F1:4D:C7

    Then issued
    vi /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
    to edit the file and add the HWADDR=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
    Then issued a 'shutdown -r now' to reboot the server
    After a reboot, network connectivity was restored!

  • Eth0 fails after installing and operating ath0 using ath_pci

    Hi everyone, thank you for taking a look at my problem here.
    I'm operating on an older IBM Thinkpad A22M.  When I first install ArchLinux, eth0 works fine.  I can dhcpcd into my network and browse the internet without a problem.  Once I add this WG511T PCMCIA card, and attempt to connect with it, eth0 fails and nothing I can do will bring it back.
    I am operating no network managers and I do not do
    sudo ifconfig eth0 down

    Of course, taking down eth0 and then bringing it back up does not work.  I have already made sure that the ethernet cable and the router both work by plugging in another PC.  I've looked at just about everything I could find to figure out what would cause this kind of issue, but I have found little in answers.
    Again, thanks for taking a look.  If you have any useful resources or reads or an explanation as to what I'm doing wrong, I would take them gratefully.

    What are you using to connect to the network itself?  IE netcfg2, wicd, knetworkmanager... ?
    Try using either the "mii" or "ethtool" application to gain some info perhaps?  I've used ethtool to re-connect seemingly dead connections.  Some people find the "dhcpcd" client to be a pain and quirky with their hardware, so often I see others recommend using "dhclient" instead.  Give that a try perhaps, and check the netcfg2 page on the arch wiki for troubleshooting ideas if you have time.
    Stupid question but what is the Irda port used for in your case?  I know its infrared but I've never seen that port actually used for something even on the Thinkpad line of lappys, where its most commonly found.  Maybe its conflicting somehow?

  • Bringing an interface down using a network profile

    I use netcfg to switch between network profiles... but when I switch from a profile using ethernet to a profile using wireless, it just adds the other interface... so that both ethernet and wireless are up.
    The only way I know to bring an interface down (say, ethernet) is to edit NET_PROFILES in /etc/rc.conf and put in a profile using wireless, and do /etc/rc.d/network restart.
    But is there an easier way? Is there some sort of command I can put inside my profile which uses wireless to bring down the ethernet interface?
    Thanks.

    I'm not infront of a Linux box right now, but perhaps if you could run, as root:
    # ifconfig eth0 down;
    of course, replace eth0 with the appropriate interface you wish to take down.
    p.s. - I hope i'm not completely getting your question wrong because I feel I may be.

  • Ipv4 from dhcp, ipv6 static on single interface eth0

    Hi,
    pls help me understand or solve my problem with my network setup.
    I had ipv4 ip address assigned dynamically and ipv6 set statically, both via netcfg and everything worked without problem.
    This is my netcfg config:
    CONNECTION='ethernet'
    DESCRIPTION='A basic dhcp ethernet connection using iproute'
    INTERFACE='eth0'
    IP='dhcp'
    PRE_UP='ethtool -s eth0 wol g'
    PRE_DOWN='ethtool -s eth0 wol g'
    ## for IPv6 autoconfiguration
    #IP6='stateless'
    ## for DHCPv6
    IP6='static'
    ADDR6=(2002:54f2:xxxx:1::2/64)
    GATEWAY6=2002:54f2:xxxx:1::1
    But someday I received error when booting up and also when I try to start profile manualy:
    /etc/rc.d/net-profiles start
    :: eth0 up
    RTNETLINK answers: File exists
    Adding gateway 2002:54f2:xxxx:1::1 failed
    No profile started.
    I found that I can't have two gateways on one interface, but until now there's no problem.
    When I disabled GATEWAY6 line from config, eth0 profile can be started but ipv6 connectivity didn't works.
    I tried set ipv6 to stateless that works, but after some time not more that 5min network connection resets and after recovery in couple of seconds only ipv4 works.
    Where's a problem? What can I do to achieve same setup I had before some update last week?
    Thanks

    houmles wrote:I found that I can't have two gateways on one interface, but until now there's no problem.
    I suspect it's a problem with that; I've noticed this problem as well.
    When trying to add multiple default gateways with iproute2 (ie, `ip r a default via xxx:xxx:xxx::xxxx`) it errors with the error you've mentioned. I'm not sure if this is a kernel bug, iproute2 bug, or not a bug at all.
    Having multiple default IPv4 gateways works fine.
    I believe netcfg doesn't check for an existing gateway and delete it first (or use `ip r r` instead or `ip r a`) before adding the one; but I haven't checked the code so I could be wrong.
    EDIT:
    OK, I couldn't resist looking at the code, and it indeed does a 'dumb' addition of the gateway:
    112 if [[ -n "$GATEWAY" ]]; then
    113 report_debug ethernet_iproute_up ip route add default via "$GATEWAY" dev "$INTERFACE"
    114 if ! ip route add default via "$GATEWAY" dev "$INTERFACE"; then
    115 report_iproute "Adding gateway $GATEWAY failed"
    116 fi
    117 fi
    I'm looking at making a patch now. Patch and bug report: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/29480

    tanks for your answer.

    This is the reason why your 802.11b radio won't come up.  The radio-specific firmware is either missing or corrupted.
    Most effective way is to overwrite and unpack the entire TAR file.  So let the AP boot normally.  Don't worry about the radio for the time being.
    Make sure you have the TAR file located in the correct folder of your TFTP server.  Use the command "archive download-sw /over /force tftp://<TFTP IP address>/filename.tar".
    Once the process is complete the AP will reboot.

    In enable mode, can you do a "dir flash:" and post the contents?
    Do a "show ip interface brief" and make sure your radios are still up/up.

    addresses of the 2 machines and the 2 VIP address.
    With the utility oifcfg I correct the information about the interface eth0. (I
    execute also vipca)
    oifcfg iflist
    eth0 10.23.11.0
    eth1 10.25.13.0
    oifcfg getif
    eth0 10.23.11.0 global public
    eth1 10.25.13.0 global cluster_interconnect
    Now in the EM I obtain this two warnings (one for each instance):
    mbprod_mbprod2: Interconnect; Interface Type;The instance is using interface
    'eth0' of type 'Unknown'.
    mbprod_mbprod1:Interconnect; Interface Type; The instance is using interface
    'eth0' of type 'Unknown'.
    How can I correct the problem?
    Thank you very much.

    Suppose we are using interface, to use the method declared in the interface, which is implemented in another class. Now what is the difference between using the interface instead of directly instantiating the implemented class to use the method. Can anyone explain me in detail.To use an interface an implementing class must be instantiated somewhere (though not necessarilly in your own code). The object in question is accessed through the interface, but in reality every Object is an instance of a concrete class. For example say you connect to a database. DriverManager gives you an object which implements java.sql.Connection. The object you get will actulay be of a class defined inside the database provider's libraries and which you may well not be allowed to instanciate yourself, all you need to know is that it implements Connection. And because you handle it as a reference to Connection, you don't need to care what the actual class is, you can change the database URL and switch to a completely different database driver without changing your code.

  • PropertyNode: Interface Information: Interface Description fails on second call

    Hello all,
    I´m new here and I have a problem.
    As the subject already tells the property node: Interface Information: Interface Description fails on second call.
    I have written a SubVI to get the virtual COM Port of a specified Device, which is connected via USB to my computer.
    Therefore I use the "VISA Find Resource" VI to get a list of all active COM Ports and then use the mentioned property Node to get the device information.
    I search for a specific string in this device information and if this string is found, I have my needed COM Port.
    This is all working. Except for the case I start this SubVI a second time.
    I always get an error from this property node saying: Error: -1073807246 in Property Node, VISA: (Hex 0xBFFF0072) The resource is valid, but VISA can not currently access it.
    I don`t understand why I´m getting this error. I don`t even open the VISA Resource. I just check the name of it and make a VISA Close.
    Maybe the problem is in my device?! I don`t know.
    If I switch my device off and on again. My VI is again working once.
    I hope someone has an idea, where this problem comes from and how to fix it.
    I have the part of my SubVI, which is relevant to see the issue.
    Thanks in advice

  • [solved] dhcpStart:interface eth0 is not Ethernet ...

    Trying to setup the network of my laptop, I've edited rc.conf and put eth0="dhcp, commented the statip ip line and added the driver module of the card in the MODULE section.
    Configuration files are just like the desktop except of the different drivers.
    When running "/etc/rc.d/network start" or "dhcpcd eth0" I get the following error in /var/log/errors.log one finds,
    dhcpStart: interface eth0 is not Ethernet or 802.2 Token Ring
    Loading or unloading the driver module doesn't differ, I get the same error.
    ifconfig -a shows a down network interface named eth0

    The card is Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller and it's driver is supposed to be sk98lin available in arch's 0.7 kernel (2.6.10).
    Beside of trying to do things using arch's configuration files, I'm trying the generic way. I'm also trying static IP instead of dhcp.
    My IP should be 192.168.1.101
    and the gateway IP is 192.168.1.1
    modprobe sk98lin
    ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.101 up
    route add default gw 192.168.1.1
    The output of dmeg is as follows:
    http://www.macamania.com/dmesg_newcomer/
    The output of route -n is as follows:
    http://www.macamania.com/route_newcomer/

  • To automatically bring interface eth0 up on boot

    Eth0 can be brought up by:
    ip link set eth0 up
    Some times when
    systemctl start dhcpcd@eth0
    doesn't work,
    probably
    sudo cp /etc/network.d/examples/ethernet-dhcp /etc/network.d/ethernet-whatevername-dhcp
    and edit /etc/conf.d/netcfg to change NETWORKS=(ethernet-whatevername-dhcp) couild solve the problem.

  • Payables Open Interface Pgm fails without any error(Very urgent)

    All,
    I'm into an integration project where in I'm pushing Invoice doc from a third party appln to Oracle apps (11.5.10.2) thru payables open interface. The integration is smooth till today. We pushed a record today, but the concurrent neither picks up the data but failed with 'completed error' status. When I delete the same record from the interface, the concurrent runs fine. So we are sure there is some issue with the data in my record. Since concurrent is failed without any reason, from where I can get the log to know what is the actual problem with that record? Pls help me with your inputs.
    Thanks,
    Sen

    Sen,
    To enable trace, please refer to this document (skip the part about generating TKPROF, just check the concurrent request output file if more details about the error are logged after enabling trace and setting the profile option).
    Note: 453527.1 - How To Trace a Concurrent Request And Generate TKPROF File
    https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=453527.1
    The database log file can be usually found under $ORACLE_HOME/admin/<SID>_<hostname>/bdump directory (or from SQL*Plus, issue "show parameter background_dump_dest").

  • OEM app server interface - Renderer failed:  servlet error and NoClassDefFoundError

    Hello, I am having problems accessing my OEM (running on Sun Solaris) in an XSession/ssh terminal window on my Windows machine. It was working fine for months, and now I get the following errors on the OEM web browser interface page. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem, or if someone from Oracle can suggest a fix for us? We are currently unable to re-start our live app server while this connection option is not working.
    Thanks!

  • [SOLVED] Cannot bring wifi interface up

    Hello,
    A bit of a newbie here...
    I've just installed archlinux on a laptop and I'm trying to get it to use a static IP on the wireless (already suceeded to get it working with a static IP on the wired network) via WEP to an access point that doesn't broadcast its ESSID.
    I have set up a netctl profile which runs at boot time. Said profile seems to run correctly and I even get an IP address for the wireless. However, it doesn't seem to bring the wifi interface up and typing "ip link set <INTERFACE> up" as root seems to have no effect. I have already installed the firmware for the card and I'm not successful in getting a connection.
    This is the output of the commands I've tried so far:
    # ip addr show

    Thanks for the pointers, Strike0. The wired-wireless failover scenario does look quite interesting. So I'd like to explore that option more extensively. I attempted to create a master bond/failover connection via netctl with two slaves: one for the wired connection and another one for the wireless connection. For the wired connection I used a netctl profile and for the wireless connection I used a systemd service manually setting up the wireless connection, somewhat following the wiki pages you refer to.
    All three services start up correctly, but when I unplug the ethernet cable, the wireless network doesn't take over. It seems that it's not really connected.
    Here's the details of my configuration:
    The master failover (bond) netctl profile:
    # cat /etc/netctl/failover
    Description='A wired connection with failover to wireless'
    Interface='bond0'
    Connection=bond
    BindsToInterfaces=('enp2s0' 'wlp2s3')
    IP=static
    Address="192.168.1.5/26"
    Gateway='192.168.1.1'
    DNS=('XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX' 'YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY')
    SkipNoCarrier='no'
    The failover wired netctl profile:
    # cat /etc/netctl/failover_wired
    Description='Failover wired network'
    Interface=enp2s0
    Connection=ethernet
    IP=no
    SkipNoCarrier=yes
    ## For IPv6 autoconfiguration
    #IP6=stateless
    ## For IPv6 static address configuration
    #IP6=static
    #Address6=('1234:5678:9abc:def::1/64' '1234:3456::123/96')
    #Routes6=('abcd::1234')
    #Gateway6='1234:0:123::abcd'
    The systemd service for the wireless network:
    # cat /etc/systemd/system/network-wireless\@.service
    [Unit]
    Description=Wireless network connectivity (%i)
    Wants=network.target
    Before=network.target
    BindsTo=sys-subsystem-net-devices-%i.device
    After=sys-subsystem-net-devices-%i.device
    [Service]
    Type=oneshot
    RemainAfterExit=yes
    #EnvironmentFile=/etc/conf.d/network-wireless@%i
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/ip link set dev %i up
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/iwconfig wlp2s3 essid MYNETWORKNAME
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/iwconfig wlp2s3 key 0123456789ABCDEF
