I write a client sever apli to broadcast real time information to the internet network. I use multicastSocket. Everything work when i am not connected to the network using my local IP 127.0.0.1. When i am connected to the network i got an ADSL fix IP.
the server work fine with theseparameter
InetSocketAddress address ("81.57.195.85",4445);
socket = new DatagramSocket(address);
and
InetAddress group ("225.1.1.1");
DatagramPacket ....(buf, buf.length, group, 4446);
socket.send(packet);
But the client never receive nothing with these parameter
InetSocketAddress address1("81.57.195.85",4446);
socket = new MulticastSocket(address1);
address = InetAddress.getByName("225.1.1.1");
socket.joinGroup(address);
packet = new DatagramPacket(buf, buf.length);
(' i just shownecessaryinformation ')
So i want to know if it is possible to do braodcast from win98 computer to the internet ?
if it is possible i would like toknow were i am wrong.

In a nutshell, no.
Most properly configured routers intentionally and deliberately block broadcast/multicast messages. Your ISP probably has one in place with the initial intent of shielding you from such... spam, and it just so happens that it goes both ways.
If you create your own LAN, then your code will work; it will successfully send a message to each computer in that network node (or netmask).

I have installed TMG 2010 SP2 at Windows 2008 R2.
So, as I read TMG blocks as broadcast as multicast.
And such built-in only one way default behaviour is not right.
I want in my own (as user/admin) define whether it is necessary to me or not as following there have to be ability to switch it on/off such option, for example as checkboxes for each network (address range) defined by default/user - one for broadcast and
one for multicast.
So, please add such functionality to kernel mode driver and to service in the next nearest SP or rollup.
And/or tell how is it possible to switch it on at Tmg 2010 SP2 and later.
There are some important services relying on broadcast: NetBios, Dhcp, some Alladin hardkey protection, some special soft.
If somebody of MS techinians will send registry parameter for this or specially designed driver, all will under my responsibility only.

I see this as following: next roll up adding two checkboxes and also two array input fields for Each Rule: multicast traffic checkbox and array where some (one or more) IP addresses can be put and broadcast traffic checkbox with also array input (for example
192.168.0.255 and 255.255.255.255 - both IP, not mask) .
For example, I want to allow out/in (from LocalHost/to LocalHost) for NetBios 137, 138 port services broadcast, but drop out/in Dhcp Broadcast and allow out only
Sentinel HASP License Manager uses port 1947 broadcast. Of, course this example is for/from internal net only
So, and admins/users uses of Tmg only may define in their own or decide whether it is necessary at all and what rule/rules is/are necassary for.
Warning message can be appeared if admin set multicast and/or broadcast checbox for external net (differs from lan and localhost) but if it is necessary admin can continue anyway to do so.
Or may be make global settings (also 2 checkboxes and 2 array input control) but if it set to on, multicast/broadcat will allow if allowing appropriate rule (for examplee for NetBios) exist if drop Dhcp rule exist additionally to NetBios allowing rule, so
multicast/broadcast will be allowed to NetBios nd will not be dropped for Dhcp.
And some changes are necessary to make in kernel mode driver as I suppose.
I can become a first tester. :))))))))
P. S.: At the moment even outgoing traffic with sender IP of LocalHost (for example 192.168.0.100) and destination IP of broadcast (192.168.0.255) is blocked also.

Issue with Information broadcasting and pre-cal server in SAP BI

Hi Experts,
I have issue with information Broadcasting and Pre-cal server. I have a worrkbook whcih runs from information broadcasting in pre-cal server. Workbook is desinged on single query and workbook contains visual basic code. workbook has a variable which is controlled by Control query in information broadcasting.
I have 20 employees every month I need to send workbook via e-mail from information broadcasting. The problem is sometimes all 20 employees will recieve e-mails and sometimes not. I identified there is something wrong in workbook or in pre-cal server.
because after workbook calculation in pre-cal server is not pushing to SOST so there is something wrong in workbook or in pre-cal server.
I closely observed pre-cal server front end log. There are few operations performing on workbook in pre-cal server
like Open workbook, Calculate workbook, Save woorkbook and close workbook. In success case pre-cal sever is performing all the operations but in failure case pre-cal server is missing Close workbook case.

I went into RSPRECADMIN and clicked on 'Display Current Queue'. There we have 3 sections
1) Queue Overview of Open Precalculations
I can see this section is always blank after running IB also
2) Queue Overview of Current Precalculations
In this section I can see an entry after running IB and duration is changing. but some time workbook in this section will never processed but the duration column is changing may be something is happening at this stage.
If the entry is not proccessed in this section and IB SM37 job will never end. I manually cancelled the job from SM50.
Don't why the workbook is taking long time and will never end even though I cancelled the SM37 IB job.
3) Queue Overview of Proccessed Error-Free Precalculations
All the error free workbooks which means all pre-cal server completed workbook calculation and sent to SOST.
I manually ran the workbook for all the 20 employees I can't find any pop-up message (earlier we have pop-up windows appearing because of VB code and when report returns no data and we fixed the pop-up issues)
Can you please help me further to trace the error.

Broadcast and point to point server in the same port

I'm trying to set up a system where I can send point to point messages via sockets to certain ips, send broadcast messages to every pc in the network, and also be able to listen for point to point messages and broadcast messages, all in the same port. I've been able to establish a point to point connection using the Socket class to send the message, and using the ServerSocket class to listen for messages, but I can't seem to get broadcasting to work.
I read somewhere that for broadcasting one should use the DatagramSocket class. The problem is i'm not sure which ip i'm supposed to specify when I send the message. Also, do I need a special listener to listen for broadcast messages, or will the ServerSocket listener work for that?
This is what I have for the broadcasting part:

It worth mentioning that UDP/broadcast and robust do go together easily.
- UDP does not guarantee delivery. i.e. messages can be dropped and you won't be told. Lost packets are not retransmitted either.
- UDP can fragment packets if larger than 532 bytes long.
- UDP packets can arrive out of order (though I have never seen this myself)
If your receiver is under load/busy it can miss many packets if its buffers overflow.

I have to send messages through UDP multicast and unicast from same port. In Labview I tried that it throws error. I heard it is possible by means of Datagram (UDP unicast and multicast) Port Sharing. How can it be achieved in Labview?

I have to send UDP multicast and Unicast messages to a remote port from a single source/local port. I tried by opening UDP unicast and multicast in the same port and got the expected error. I tried by opening a unicast connection and sending unicast messages.After that when multicast messages has to send I closed unicast and opened multicast in the same port.This is not throwing any error. But my requirenment is to comminicate with another application in C ++ which recieves this data, throwing an error of lost connectivity and both the applications are not abled to communicate properly.
In the other application with C++ this is implemented using port sharing. So how port sharing can be implemented in labview so that I can send both multicast and unicast messages from the same port?

UDP is a sessionless protocol, meaning that anyone listening on the specified port CAN receive the data. CAN because as you noted there is no guarantee in the protocol that it will be received. And if you send the data not to a specific address but a multicast address not only one computer can receive it but in fact every computer on the same subnet listening to that multicast address and depending on the TTL of the packet also computers in neighbouring subnets, although that last one is not a very reliable operation since routers can be configured to drop multicast packages anyhow despite of a different TTL saying otherwise.
Accordingly there is no real way to make sure that a receiving UDP port is not already in use, since you don't build up a connection. UDP is more or less analogous to shouting your messages through a megaphone, and anyone listening on the right frequency (port) can hear it. You do bind the sender socket to a specific port number but that makes little difference.

Submitting to broadcast and iTunes

This isn't so much a FCP question as it is a video production question, but with specific needs for iTunes.
I'm just finishing my first music video for a record label and they will most likely be submitting it for broadcast and also to iTunes. I overheard another editor discussing the proper way to format a video for iTunes and I was wondering what that was. I think he was talking about the info that runs off the top of the video. Run time, artist, record label and the like.
Can someone give me a quick rundown of what info I need to include, and the timing? Do I need a 2 pop if it's just a Quicktime? Color bars, tone, countdown?

Vista prefers NTFS or FAT. So you'd probably need some software that lets Vista read HFS+. Or consolidate it onto a different exHD that is FAT-formatted.

Are the fonts installed with the Mac OS OK to use for commercail use? ie, a logo which willbe used for packaging, TV broadcast and internet.

Subnet vs VLAN, L2 broadcast and L3 broadcast

Hi all,
I understand what are subnets and VLANs in which subnet breakup a network into different smaller segment, whereas VLAN is the logical breaking of a physical switch into several logical ones.
By right, each subnet and VLAN belongs to its own broadcast domain.
However, there are still some grey areas which i am not able to fully grasp and hope gurus here can advice further
q1) is VLAN and subnet a 1:1 relationship ? can multiple subnets belong to a single VLAN, or multiple VLANs share a same subnet ?
The reason being I have come across a design specs which lay down "Production environment" , inside it has multiple subnets which is okay, but I am not sure are the subnets belonging to the same VLAN ? or rather can they ?
q2) if devices are from a same subnet/connected to the same switch does not need to be routable to another other subnet/network. there is no need to set a gateway ip in the devices already am i right ? But do they still need IP addresss to communicate with one another ?
q3) Technically, can a frame be send from a device to another device connected to the same switch without "IP addresses" assuming both the source and destination MACs are made known ? (meaning that the src and dest ip in the frame is empty)
q4) If multiple devices from different subnets (e.g. device a,b are from subnet ab, device c,d are from subnet cd) are connected to the same switch, are they still technically consider to be in the same broadcast domain ?
q4.1) I would assume that an arp request is a L2 broadcast am i right ? and it will affect all the devices above (a,b,c,d) despite them being in different subnet . e.g. [src mac a.b.c.d] [dst mac f.f.f.f] [src ip 192.168.1.1] [dst ip 192.68.1.10], am i right ?
q4.2) Above arp request is a L2 broadcast with specific L3 destination address but L2 broadcast address,
Is there any example on L3 broadcast (255.255.255.255) which have specific L2 destination mac address ?
q5) if mutiple devices from different subnets are connected to the same switch, is there any possibilities that frames from one subnet will inter-cross to devices on other subnet beside L2 broadcast ? Is there any other impact ?

Trying a 'Find' in the 'Web Application Designer', for this template.
If not available, go to 'RSA1', 'BI Content', choose 'BEX Web Template' and double-click on 'Select Objects'. The template should be here.
Highlight and 'Transfer Selections' and you will install the template.
Now try your broadcasting again.
If it still does not work, you will need to go via 'SPRO' - just reply and I will explain if the first part above does not solve it.

Broadcasts ARE limited to VLANs.
But you are creating one big VLAN here!
Let me explain once more:
From the first switch point of view:
All ports are within VLAN5. So a broadcast received on one port is sent out to all other ports.
One of the ports is physically connected to the second switch. As all ports on the second switch are assigned to VLAN6 on the second switch, it simply receives the broadcast from the first switch and forwards it to all ports within the same VLAN to which the ports which received the broadcast belongs to (VLAN 6).
The switches are having no chance to realize YOU have connected one port assigned to VLAN5 on the first switch to a port assigned to VLAN6 on the second switch.
This is something which should not be done unless absolutely necessary.
YOU are creating one common VLAN composed of two parts per switch. No matter how you call it per switch, it's still one VLAN!

->Create and save a workbook
->Open the created workbook in the in the Bex Analyzer
->go to Bex Analysis Toolbox and click on Tools button
->Login to the IB page to create settings
->create a new setting by giving the appropriate e-mail id
->In the Texts tab give the subject and Text
->Provide the variable and server details
->click on schedule and give appropriate date and time.

Socket for broadcast and receive?

Hi all,
sorry for cross post but I need an answer soon.
The server need to broadcast an inviting message continuosly. and at the same time the socket is able to receive any messages from the client.
I use 2 threads. One iniiated with Socket for listening and the other multicast socket with datagram.
However, I don't think I did it the right way?????

ServerSockets go with MulticastSockets like baloney and whip cream.
ServerSockets are for connection-based sockets.
MulticastSockets are for connection-less datagram sockets
Pick one type based on your requirements and stick with it.
Either ServerSockets and Sockets
or MulticastSocket with MulticastSocket.
