Browser interaction

Hi there,
Is it possible to instruct Edge to open a URL in the Current browser tab? I understand the "_Self" command only opens content within the same <div> and "_Blank" causes a new tab to open. The problem I am facing now is that navigation of the website I have my animation in sometimes causes up to 22 tabs to be open. I would just like Open URL actions to open webpages within the current tab if possible please?
Many thanks,
Kim

Hi Elaine,
Thanks a million for your reply. Apologies for not mentioning but the Edge animation i'm using is embedded in an Adobe Muse project. And for some reason when I include the "_self" parameter attribute to the window.open method it only causes the animation frame to open the requested URL as supposed to the tab itself.
I've exported a sample and placed it the dropbox folder below it will show you exactly what I mean:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ird05w25jvlk0y4/test.zip
Any time I try ammed code outside of the Muse environment the results cause serious display errors to I haven't looked into ammending the source code yet.
Thanks so much for your help.

  • GetURL issue on browser  "interactive" mode

    Hello all.
I'm having a hard time to show a webpage back on the browser,
after getURL is triggered to get it.
The environment is the following: Nokia N95, S60 3rd
Edition's web browser, Flash Lite 2.0.
Opening the mobile browser, I have a XHTML page, with a link
to a SWF. Upon clicking on it, the browser opens the Flash
Lite SWF properly (in the browser context - as opposite to
standalone - or more correctly even: "
    interactive mode")
I'm seeing my very simple Flash application and I have a link
in a getURL on a movieclip
    (see the code attached below)
Now, I know page is being accessed by the mobile browser in
the background - once i click the on the clip. However I can't see
it because my Flash Lite app is still visible on the screen.
How can I get to see the web page for which i called with
    getURL in Flash?
Trying to come up with a solution, quitting the player by
adding fscommand2("quit"); right after the getURL call, seems to
immediately prevail as it actually closes the player, but doesn't
    open the page before.
Does this means that it is not possible to click an object in
flash lite and view a webpage, when the player has been loaded in
    browser context, rather than standalone?

    Thanks for your reply dietmar.
In my case I wish to have different links with different
    URLs.
Say like 3: one for homepage, other for favorites and a last
one for user profile for example.
Whenever the user would push a distinct button, it should
    open a distinct URL.
In your solution you will still need to close using
    fscommand("Quit");
which represents another new click. The user should not need
to think that he must close Flash in order to actually view the
page that the browser has loaded in the background.
Someone, Adobe or Nokia should be responsible to handle this
faulty behavior. But my first guess would be that it is a Flash
    Lite Bug.
Also I am not able to pass JavaScript commands via Flash Lite
2.0 getURL function, to the S60 3rd ed. browser. Note that this
browser can handle window parameters like "_blank". I was able to
simulate the behavior I wanted with XHTML and JavaScript.
Unfortunately not with Flash Lite 2 and XHTML.

  • Applet / Browser interaction

    Hi all,
Does anybody know if an applet can send messages to the containing browser page?
I am invoking a method on an applet from inside a javascript, which is invoked from
a DHTML event (OnClick). This javascript also moves the applet (Inside a span) to the position on the page to be used.
What I need is the reverese procedure, so when the applet has finished it's task,
to invoke another piece of javascript from the host page to move the applet off the page again.
The javascript -> applet works great. Now I need Applet -> Javascript.
    Any ideas?

    Sorted.
I've discovered the delights of JSObject. Does the trick well.

  • How to see the first page in "fit to height" mode by default?

I am customizing Acrobat at several levels (custom plugins, JavaScripts, etc.).
Every time I open a document, the first thing I do is to click on the "fit to height" icon, and frankly, it is getting a little tiresome. I am also trying to determine exactly what kinds of things can be achieved with JS, which ones need to be implemented by a plugin, etc.
In reference to the "fit to height"... can this be done:
    - by passing some parameter to Acrobat at startup?
    - by embedding some JavaScript which "presses a button" on the toolbar for me?
    - by COM, or COM-type remote control?
    - by having a plugin make the configuration every time a document is opened?
Let's say that I want to have a specific configuration at Acrobat startup: a limited number of toolbars being visible, etc. Is this an appropriate task for JavaScript (obviously the opened document will have to contain some appropriate JavaScript code)? Is the plugin functionality up to this task?
Doesn't Acrobat have a configuration file? If Adobe doesn't provide it, should I implement it myself?
    TIA,
    -RFH

Depends if you are executing a menu item or if you are in the web browser interacting with the PDF Open Parameters or if you are using JS in web browser to do it via IAC to the ActiveX control.

  • Uploading a file without using multipart request

I want to upload a xml file from my java application(standalone, no webserver involved) ... please suggest. I am able to do it through servlet multipart request but don't want to continue with that just to bypass the browser interaction the client have to perform to choose the said file.
    thanks

Upload to what? You need something running on the machine where the file is to be uploaded to. If it's not a web server, then you'll have to run something else. Once you decide what that is going to be, then you will have to change your program to send the XML file to that server.

  • How to use keyword hierarchy?

    Hiya,
In my Keywords HUD, I have created a hierarchical order of keywords, such as
    - Europe
    -- Ireland
    -- Germany
    - Prints
    -- A4
    -- 6x4
If I want to assign the keyword "Ireland" to a bunch of photos, I select all these photos and drag the keyword from the HUD to the photos.
What I am struggling with are 2 problems:
    - How do I browse interactively by keyword hierarchy? Can I select "Europe" as a keyword in order to see all photos being taken in Europe? Can I select "Gemany" afterwards in order to see the subset of photos being taken in Germany?
    - How do I create smart folders containing all photos being taken in Europe? If I take as a search criteria "IPTC > Keywords" and search for "Europe", I don't get any feedback, but if I search for "Ireland", I get all the photos being taken in Ireland.
Does Aperture ignore the upper levels (e.g. "Europe", "Prints") for all its features?
Is the hierarchy exclusively used for the presentation of keywords in the Keywords HUD?
Thanks in advance for any feedback,
    Stephan

Maybe I'm missing something, as I typically ask questions, not answer them, but doesn't this work for you?
Either type Europe into the quick search section of the Search Panel or toggle open the "text" criteria and enter it there.
That should find the images by the upper level keywords.
You can narrow the search by selecting match "all" and adding more text items for upper level keywords, or by selecting lower level keywords from the keywords criteria section.
The manual states that you can quick search multiple text items by separating them by commas, but that didn't seem to work for me. Aperture seems to treat upper level keywords as text, and they can be searched as such.
Once the search is completed, click the create smart album, and you should have what you are looking for, I hope.
    Good Luck!

  • Latest Java release (1.6.0_25) crashes systematically on Firefox

The online software developed by my company uses multiple Java applets on the page. When we tested the latest Java update (1.6.0_25) last week, we realized that Java would unexpectedly stop when used with Firefox.
I managed to create a test page to reproduce this issue. In the page, I used applets available from java.com and javatester.org (it's simple applets which test your Java version).
To reproduce it, go to [http://www.aleks.com/multi_applets_crash2] and click on refresh. After few times (usually less than 10 times) Java will stop and the applets won't be displayed. If you had the Java console opened at the same time, you would be able to see it close suddenly. No Java icon is visible in your Windows system tray.
We tested with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 and with different versions of Firefox (4.01.1, 3.018, 3.5.10, 3.5.15, 3.6.3, 3.6.13 and 3.6.17). With Java 1.6.0_25, it always crashes.
If you test with Java 1.6.0_24 it does NOT crash.
If you test with other browsers (IE and Chrome) and Java 1.6.0_25, it almost never crashes.
Any help to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated. If you think I should post this somewhere else, please advise (I have also posted this issue on bugzilla.mozilla.org: [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=654847]).

  • J2EE Design Question -- Am I On The Right Track?

There are multiple tables in my database. Each table has a primary key, and the table that relates to other tables has foreign keys. I have to match the primary key and foreign key to go from one table to another. The specifics are spelled out below:
The first table has login, pwd, and a primary key as fields, the second table contains completely different fields plus a primary key and foreign keys. The fields in the third table are different from those in the first and second tables plus its primary key. Queries to the third table can be made only if the user login and pwd are found in the first table, and through the second table's relation to the first table and the third tables relation to the second table.
The fields of all those tables may be accessed concurrently, but the fields are read-only (for the time being).
I have a servlet to handle browser interactions. And I have a session bean to handle the workflow and business logic. However, I am confused with the choices between VO and entity beans.
I first thought that I should use value objects to represent the data fields of the specific rows I looked for in those tables. Here is what I read about Value Object:
"If a business object merely represents a structure to hold data fields, and the only behavior it provides are get and set method for the fields, then it would be wasteful of system resources to implement it as an enterprise bean. To avoid expensive remote methods calls (system resources and network bandwidth) to get the value of entity object fields, a value object is used to represent the details of the entity object. Only one remote call is required to retrieve the value object and then a clients request to query the state of the object can then be met via local get methods on this details object."
On my second thought, I think I should use entity beans to represent the specific rows I am looking for in those tables because I must use primary key and foreign key relations to go from one table to another.
I do not use DAO because I am using CMP. The first call is within the session bean. It is a remote call to look for a specific row in the first table in my database. Subsequently, the mapping of the row in the first table to the second table, and the mapping of the row in the second table to the third table are all invoked on the local" interfaces of those entity beans.
    client(browser)-->front controller(servlet)-->session facade(session ejb)-->entity ejb-->entity ejb -- > entity ejb
Please advise if this is the right design. Am I on the right track? Is there improvement to be made?

I might not explain my question well in my previous post -- there is no business logic involved in what I am doing to go from the first entity bean to the second entity bean and to go from the second entity bean to the third entity bean.
Based on the login information, I have to go through those entity beans to find the very specific row in the third table in order to get the data field I need. That is to say, only thing involved is searching for rows.
    In my view, session bean -- > 1st entity bean -- > 2nd entity bean -- > 3rd entity bean
    1. session bean -- > 1st entity bean: remote call and returns the key to the 1st entity bean for locating the 2nd entity bean

    3. 2nd entity bean -- > 3rd entity bean: local call and then returns the value of the specific field to the session bean
    The alternative approach is:
    session bean

    + + +
1st entity bean 2nd entity bean 3rd entity bean

  • Applets, URLConnection, IPv6, and Cookies

The web application I'm working on does part of its cookie authentication by comparing the REMOTE_ADDR header to your cookie, which works fine for browser interaction. But we have a few applets that communicate directly with the server. In mixed IPv4/IPv6 environments, the browser (naturally) communicates using IPv6, but the Applets use IPv4 by default, causing the REMOTE_ADDR comparison to fail (the server expects an IPv6 address).
I've had mixed results with setting java.net.preferIPv6Addresses to TRUE in my Java settings. This appears to work on my machine, but not on my QA's machine.
I also tried setting this property programmatically and then signing the applet, but that didn't appear to work at all.
The alternative I came up with was to find an IPv6 address via InetAddress.getAllByName(host), and use that for my URL instead of the hostname. This reports the correct IP address in REMOTE_ADDR, but since I'm not using the same name as in the browser, my browser cookies don't come along for the ride. I've tried getting the cookies by opening a connection to the correct hostname and reading connection.getRequestProperties() or connection.getHeaderField("Set-Cookie"), but I don't get any information back.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can either
    a) Force the applet to connect using the correct IP stack, or
    b) Grab the cookie from the browser
    Thanks.

    try
    URLConnection.setUseCaches(false)
    setUseCaches
    public void setUseCaches(boolean usecaches)
Sets the value of the useCaches field of this URLConnection to the specified value.
Some protocols do caching of documents. Occasionally, it is important to be able to "tunnel through" and ignore the caches
(e.g., the "reload" button in a browser). If the UseCaches flag on a connection is true, the connection is allowed to use
whatever caches it can. If false, caches are to be ignored. The default value comes from DefaultUseCaches, which defaults to
    true.
or try to delete old cookies by calling Cookie.setMaxAge(0)
    in your jsp

  • HTML DB and Serial(COM) Port

    Hi, everyone,
Is there any way that HTML DB can communicate with Serial Port (COM Port) directly? I searched the forum, and saw someone mentioned "Visual Baisc", "Javascript", "ActiveX", or "DLL". Could anyone give an example for it if you had successful experiences about it?
My problem is I'm working on a HTML DB project which will read data from barcode scanner. And request I have is the HTML DB can monintor the Serial Port and read the data from there if there is one. That means some programs need to be embedded in or called in HTML DB page. I known there are some commerial software developed for this purpose on the market, but I am wondering if it can be done by HTML DB itself?
    Thank you. And Regards,
    Ran

    > Is there any way that HTML DB can communicate with Serial Port (COM Port)
    directly?
There seems to be a misunderstanding or lack of understanding about what APEX/HTMLDB is ito client-server architecture.
APEX is a server side application. It resides entirely in Oracle as PL/SQL software. It is executed by Oracle server processes that are servicing requests from a web (i.e. Apache) server.
APEX does not "run" on the client. APEX streams, via the web server, data to the client browser. These MIME streams can be anything from HTML, XML, plain text (like CSV data), to images and so on.
The browser receives this data stream, and depending on the browser configuration, does something with it - e.g. it renders a HTML data stream, it starts Flash Player plugin for a Flash graph, etc.
The browser interacts with the client. With the user, the mouse, the keyboard, the printer and any other peripherals the client may have - like a barcode scanner.
Can HTMDBL use a COM port? The more correct question is, Can PL/SQL in the Oracle Server Process access the COM port of the Oracle Server Platform?. The answer to that is yes - it can be done.
But in the context of client interaction and the COM port being that of the client platform - no. PL/SQL is a server-side language. It does not execute on the client in the client browser.
It is important to understand the web client-server architecture - as it is a lot more complex and inflexible and slower than the "traditional" client-server architecture. It is stateless. It uses a very "primitive" client, the web browser. It is bound to W3C standards which is the lowest common denominator. Forget about smooth and slick client GUIs using and supporting the latest desktop GUIs standards and controls. Forget about easily interfacing with the client platform's file system and peripherals and so on.

  • Applets and Screencapture (Capture and Discard)

    Hello Everyone,
I need to capture part of a screen for processing in a Java applet. The screenshot will only exist as long as the applet exists, will not be sent anywhere, will not be saved to the user's drive and is only needed to be created then distroyed when the user leaves the page. In other words, the screenshot will only be local to the client the applet runs on. My question(s) is:
    - Is there an alternative to Robot for taking a screenshot in an applet?
    - If there is no alternatives to Robot, how can I grant permissions in AWTPermission to allow for instantiation of Robot and to take such screenshots?
Yes, Robot can be inherently unsafe. However, there are many ways Robot's functions can be used for non malicious purposes. I'm wondering if they can be enabled for this purpose.
    Devyn

You can combine it with JavaScript (generally not so good an idea).
    You can get the document-object-model from within the applet;
in JavaScript you can use the applets functions - when all comes together.
In general you might consider Java WebStart to install a local application with web browser interaction.

  • Load on Startup of my Servlet

    Hi All,
I have a Java Program which needs to run whenever the Oracle Application Server's OC4J is started. For this, I can write a Servlet and its init() method, I can instantiate the Java Program and it will start running. Now I need to tell Oracle Application Server to load this servlet on start up. Can you please let me know the configuration files that needs to be changed along with the details of the changes. The Java program I have to start is a background process. There is no browser interaction. Also, I dont have any web application ( ear ) for that Java program. Please advise.

With JRE 1.5 versions ,how we can solve the applet resize related issues?Perhaps I did not express this clearly in my first reply, but you seem rather naive about applet/browser interaction. Something that works in Java version 1.5 on one browser, might not work in another browser running 1.5, or it might not work in a different version of the same browser (also using Java 1.5).
For that reason, I am sceptical of your claim that it 'works in 1.5'. Sure, it might work for the particular flavor of browser/OS you are testing in, but what about the other browsers on different systems?
If you can assure me that users are all using version n.n.n of browser X on OS Y, the claim that it 'works in 1.5' makes more sense.

..It will get fixed with JRE 1.6.But we are not allowed to use that 1.6 version. If any body already found any work wround SP.What does SP mean? As to a 'work-around', I suggested one in my initial reply. Launch the applet using Java Web Start.
