Bug in Oracle Forms 9i triggers

I've found a bug in oracle forms 9i. It happens when you have a select query inside a when-validate-item trigger and in that query you opt to show an alert when the query has encountered an exception...
When that trigger is fired, the alert will show even if the query returns a record(which means that it does not go through the exception). The solution is to recompile the said trigger.
Is this bug present in the other versions of Oracle forms?
Is there a patch for this bug?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
I've consulted with some of my colleagues who have been using Oracle forms for more than 5 years now, and they said that the bug seems to randomly appears...The code works fine in the local environemnt (forms builder) and in the AS itself (compiled in Unix) but after sometime, the bug appears and they just compiled the trigger where the code of the alert is in...
Is there any logical explanation of why compiling a trigger (without changing any code) solves this problem?

  • Bug in Oracle Forms Builder 6i?

    When converting from binary to text in Oracle Forms Builder, the conversion is inexplicably dropping a WHEN-VALIDATE-RECORD trigger for one of my data blocks.
    I am running Oracle Forms Builder 6i on Windows XP with the latest patches. I couldn't find anything in the bug search that resembled this problem. Is this a known issue? Is there a workaround?
    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    I just tested this in 10.1.2.2 on XP and could not reproduce the problem. It is unlikely that this is a bug and if it was, it is very likely that it was already corrected.
    Ensure that you are using 6.0.8.26. If you are using Oracle Applications you should be using 6.0.8.27.
    Also, Error Correction Support for stand-alone Forms 6.0.x users ended long ago, which means that a patch cannot be provided for version 6.x.

  • Bug in Oracle Forms

    Why I cannot see the cursor when locate it into text items with justification set to 'Right'? I can see it if the property set to 'Left' ( = 'Start' for default).
    How can I see the cursor?

    Ensure that you have applied the latest patch for your Forms/Reports developer. I know the latest patch fixed many open bugs. I do not know if this one was one of them. Hope that will fix it (if this is a real bug). You can check the bug list if you can access the Oracle Metalink.

  • Bug in Oracle Outlook Connector 10,1,1,0,2 (1431) and Oracle Forms 6i Rel 2

    Hello,
    I installed Oracle Outlook Connector. 10,1,1,0,2 (1431)
    We are using Oracle Collaboration Suite on a 10g database.
    On the Desktop.
    I am using.
    a) MS/OFFICE Outlook 2003.
    b) Oracle Forms and Reports 6i Release 2.
    c) Oracle instance client 10.1
    d) Windows XP HOME SP2.
    What happens?
    1) Oracle Run Time Forms 6i and Oracle/MS Outlook 2003 run fine(Work) when I run them ONE AT A TIME!
    2) When I run them together(At the same time) I receive this error message. FRM-40735 ORA-06508.
    I have narrowed it down to an Oracle Connector 10g problem.
    How did I do that?
    In XP Home you can create multi-user accounts.
    I created a new user account this time I connected to Microsoft Exchange Server 2000.
    Results. Oracle runtime 6i works at the same time as MS Outlook 2003.
    I am able to use both Programs at the same time. Without any error messages.
    Next Step.
    I created a new user account and this time I used an Oracle Connector 10.1g for MS Outlook 2003.
    Results: Same error message as before. Ran the application(s) at the same time. FRM-40735 and ORA-06508
    Please help with any ideas.
    Thank you
    Dennis

    The product managers look through the forum threads periodically. Some more regularly than others. Since I only look at the forum about once a week, I'm probably the least regular of the PMs. Development also scans the forum, but less regularly.
    If you have urgent issues that requires action/response from Oracle, it is better to open an SR with Oracle Support.
    Hope that helps,

    Dear all,

    I have a form that contains some data. Now this data I need to

  • Migrating Oracle forms and reports from 6i to 10g Application server on Uni

    HI Guys,
    We are migrating from Oracle forms and reports 6i to 10g.
    We will be having application server on Unix box.
    I understand following will be the changes i will have to do in this respect -
    1. Fonts are to be revisited only Java fonts are supported.
    2. Obsolete items, function calls, triggers are to be removed.
    My question is since this application can be cross platform application,
    Can anyone provide me with changes that I will have to do with configuration files like -
    1. Formsweb.cfg,
    2. forms.conf
    3. default.env
    4. registry.dat
    Keeping in mind that the application server will be on unix box.
    Thanks,
    Av.

    Java fonts are only supported for the Forms version.
    You can use your own fonts for Reports however, there is some legwork to do this. I know because I just went through it.
    If you will only being using the PDF output (which for me replaced the Preview mode that existed in 6i), then you have to install the TTF for the missing font, an AFM (use the ttf2pt1 utility to generate the AFM file, but make sure you remove the AFM extension when moving it to Unix). You'll want to use the PDF Subset in the uifont.ali (which exists under the ORACLE_HOME/guicommon/tk/admin directory and add the line underneath the PDF Subset "Font Family Name"="TTF Font Name" The font family name is found when you open the AFM file in textpad or wordpad for the font you generated. This is what you enter. The TTF Font Name is the name the TTF font. You'll have to restart Reports Server after this.
    If printing to the printer directly is an option you must have, I will tell you it does not work in Linux right now. You can print to the printer but if the font doesn't exist on the internal memory of the printer, it won't work. There are 3rd party utilities like ORARRP and PDFPrint that can take care of this but, each has its own limitations. The one thing I found with ORARRP is if you generate a Report with an RRPA file extension and open it on Windows, it works great, the printer dialog comes up asking you what printer you want to print too. However, if you call this in Linux/Unix with the filename, it brings it up in the web browser but doesn't prompt you for your printer to print too automatically. So, for me, it's a show stopper. My only other option is to install the fonts on the printer that are missing.
    As for the files you want to change, you'll obviously have to make changes to the formsweb.cfg, default.env, forms.conf. I have to modify the reports.sh for some PL/SQL attached libraries to make sure it picks them up. I did have to modify Registry.dat.
    There is alot of work but mainly forms wasn't too bad, unless you had fonts that weren't supported. Usually there is another font that you can use to replace the old one but you have to know which fonts exists on the server and try all the keys on the keyboard to find the corresponding keystroke.
    Hope this helps.

  • Update a view in oracle forms

    Hi.
    I have a block based on a view ( this view is based on two tables). How do I update the base tables when the record based on this view is updated in the form?
    Thanks

    one way is to control the transaction by using database trigger " instead of "
    on the view.
    If a view is inherently updatable and has INSTEAD OF triggers, the triggers take preference. In other words, Oracle fires the triggers instead of performing DML on the view.
    second way is to execute a DML from the forms manually by intersepting the default functionality of on-insert, on-update trigger and so on..... to perform transaction on the table.
    But i'll recommend using the INSTEAD of triggers, see documentation for more help and examples.

  • In Oracle Forms, to run all the When-Validate-Item of all the items at once

    In Oracle Forms, is there any built-in / procedure / function which is used to run all the When-Validate-Item triggers of all the Items at once ?
    I will put it in detail :
    When a form is run and while entering the data..
    when we enter some data and try to move out of that item then the When-Validate-Item trigger of that item is fired and the code in that trigger is executed..
    Similarly there may be many items and many When-Validate-Item triggers correspondigly in a form..
    My requirement is to run all the When-Validate-Item triggers of a form at once when we click a button which is created for that purpose only..
    So is there any built-in / procedure / function (to run all the When-Validate-Item triggers of all the items), which can be called in the When-Button-Pressed trigger of that particular button..
    If any one having any solution/suggestion, please let me know..
    Thanks..

    Hi Sandy,
    Thanks for your suggestion..
    The validations should be done at Item level (When-Validate-Item as usually) and seperately again when a button is pressed.
    So to put all the code in another block-level When-Validate-Item trigger or in any When-Button-Pressed trigger will be duplication of the code.
    Actually I have around 30 Fmbs to be modified and each Fmb is having around 20 Items and almost all Items are having When-Validate-Item trigger.
    So,I wanted to know whether there is any Built-in / Procedure in Oracle Forms which runs all the When-Validate-Item triggers once it is called.
    Thanks..

  • In which trigger can i use go_item() in oracle forms 6i?

    Hi,
        I have a problem with go_item.
    I tried executing go_item() in triggers like key_next_item, pre_text_item, post_text_item & when_validate_item.
    But none of them seemed to be working.
    I searched for other possibilities in the site, where i found a solution of using trigger ' when_timer_expired ' with ' when_validate_item ' ,
    but when i tried to create trigger, i did not find that trigger (when_timer_expired)  in the list at all.
    I'm using oracle form builder 6i.
    Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production.
    A trigger with go_item() must be created when tab is pressed.
    In which trigger can i use go_item() ??
    Thank You.

    from help:
    Restricted Built-in Subprograms
    Restricted Built-ins affect navigation in your form, either external screen navigation, or internal navigation. You can call these Built-ins only from triggers while no internal navigation is occurring.
    Restricted Built-ins cannot be called from the Pre and Post triggers, which fire when Oracle Forms is navigating from object to another.
    Restricted Built-ins can be called from the When triggers that are specific to interface items, such as When-Button-Pressed or When-Checkbox-Changed. Restricted Built-ins can also be called from any of the When-New-"object"-Instance triggers and from key triggers.
    Unrestricted Built-ins do not affect logical or physical navigation and can be called from any trigger.
    The Built-in descriptions include a heading, Built-In Type, that indicates if the Built-in is restricted or unrestricted.

  • Search option using a new small window in oracle forms using pl/sql

    Hai Friend,
    Iam Navya Jeevan,regarding Oracle Forms and Reports Doubts.
    Our project is developed using Forms and Reports
    In Forms for triggers we are using Pl/SQl language.
    DOUBT
    IN a form we require an option like search button when we press the search button a small window must be opened.This window should contain details from database(ie an entire column of database,must be displayed in the window ) and the user selects the value from the window.
    If u got any sample code related to this subject please mail to me.

  • Calling reports from oracle forms 9i

    Hi
    I succeded to call reports from oracle forms but for I have a problem for only one report so I can't call it. this a part of the code I'm using :
    declare
         pl_id2 ParamList;
         pl_name2 VARCHAR2(30) := 'liste2';
    v_rep VARCHAR2(100);
         rep_status VARCHAR2(20);
    begin
    pl_id2 := get_parameter_list(pl_name2);
    if (Id_Null(pl_id2) )THEN
    pl_id2 := Create_Parameter_List(pl_name2);
    IF NOT Id_Null(pl_id2) THEN
         add_parameter(pl_id2,'mois',TEXT_PARAMETER,:mois);
    END IF;
    end if;
    IF NOT Id_Null(pl_id2) THEN
    if(:mois is not null) then
    v_rep := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT('My_report',pl_id2);
    message(v_rep);
    rep_status := REPORT_OBJECT_STATUS(v_rep);
    WHILE rep_status in ('RUNNING','OPENING_REPORT','ENQUEUED') LOOP
    rep_status := report_object_status(v_rep);
    END LOOP;
    IF rep_status = 'FINISHED' THEN
    WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('/reports/rwservlet/getjobid'||substr(v_rep,instr(v_rep,'_',-1)+1)||'?'||'server=repserver','_blank');
    ELSE
    message('Error when running report');
    END IF;
    end;
    the problem I've remarqued is that the function message(v_rep) is always returning the value :'repserver_0'.
    so when I execute the previous code I'm getting the 2 messages : 'repserver_0' and 'Error when running report'.
    Rq: the report my_report is running very well in report builder.
    does someone see where is the problem so can help me??
    thanx.

    Hi,
    This usually happens when the report fails on the report server. To obtain details on why a particular report has failed, use the showjobs page :
    http://server.domain:PORT/reports/rwservlet/showjobs?server=repserver
    and check the detailed error occured.
    This is logged as Bug:3017948. It is marked to be fixed in version 9.0.4 (Reports 10g) and also has one-off patches for version 9.0.2.3 on Windows platforms. If you need further assistance about patches, please raise a Service Request (SR) with Support via Metalink (http://metalink.oracle.com).

    Dear Oracle Forms Developers,
    Nostran Computing has released FoReDoclet, our technical documentation generator tool for Oracle Forms:
    Technical features:
    - Generates HTML documentation about form, menu, PL/SQL library and object library source files similarly to JavaDoc.
    - Uses the Comment property of internal objects (blocks, parameters, alerts)
    - Parses pl/sql elements (procedures, functions, packages, triggers) as well as standard internal elements.
    - The generated HTML documentation is highly customizable by style sheets or direct template modification.
    - Accepts HTML codes in Comments property fields and PL/SQL comment blocks.
    Business benefits:
    - Eliminates the need of writing separate technical documentation, works directly from the source.
    - Provides a low-cost and efficient way of producing high-quality technical documentation for Oracle Forms based applications.
