Bug in Oracle SQL Developer
I had Oracle SQL Developer 1.5.0.53 and when I did a "Check for Update" it said no updates found, even though SQL Developer 1.5.1 was released on June 9, 2008. So obviously this is a bug you need to fix.
OK - So I downloaded the latest Oracle SQL Developer and installed it and when I opened it up, all my connections were gone!!!
That's another bug you need to fix.
See Does check for updates install 1.5.1 for some suggestions for Check for Update.
For installing 1.5.1 and then losing your connections, did you install in a new directory or over the top of 1.5.0? If yes, then reinstall again into a new directory. If not, did migrate your settings from 1.5.0? Without doing that 1.5.1 won't find your existing connections.

BUG in Oracle SQL Developer 3.0.04 on the "generating DLL" with comments?
I'm newbie on oracle, but I think that I found out a bug in Oracle SQL Developer version 3.0.04 on the "generating DLL" tool using "comments".
I will describe the steps that I gave:
I created a view, but after I test it I had to change my “where” condition, so I comment the old code and then I wrote the new “where” condition below. After I done that I tried to look at the sql code of my view using “generating DLL” tool, but oracle sql developer only shown me half of the code, a lot of code were missing. Then I began with some test trying to understand what happen and I notice that if I put an invalid sql code in my comment the generating DLL start working with no problems, for example(pseudo-code):
(COMMENT WITH VALID SQL CODE the "Generating SQL" don't work:)
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW <user>.<view_name> ( <column1>,<column2> )
AS
SELECT column1, column2
FROM table1
INNER JOIN
(SELECT
FROM table2
INNER JOIN .....
INNER JOIN ....
--where time_stamp = (select max(time_stamp) from .....)
WHERE time_stamp >= TRUNC(sysdate)
) t1 ON t1.ID = ....
AND ..... >= TRUNC(sysdate)
ORDER BY ....
Generating DLL returns this(when the error occurs):
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW <user>.<view_name> ( <column1>,<column2> )
AS
(COMMENT WITH VALID SQL CODE the "Generating SQL" work with no problems:)
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW <user>.<view_name> ( <column1>,<column2> )
AS
SELECT column1, column2
FROM table1
INNER JOIN
(SELECT
FROM table2
INNER JOIN .....
INNER JOIN ....
--where
WHERE time_stamp >= TRUNC(sysdate)
) t1 ON t1.ID = ....
AND ..... >= TRUNC(sysdate)
ORDER BY ....
I believe that "Generating DLL" tool have some problem with the comments, I also used /*...*/ to comment but the problem is still active.
I notice as well that if I started to add some more comments along the code, the conditions migth change, so I think the problem is related with "comments" code.
Would you mind telling me if this is a real bug or if I'm doing anything wrong.
Thank you in advance,
Rodrigo Campos
Edited by: 894886 on 3/Nov/2011 5:29Hi Rodrigo,
Thank you for reporting this. The only bug I see currently logged on a comment affecting the generated View DDL involves ending the last line of the definition with a comment, which treats the ending semi-colon (even if on a different line) as part of the comment. That is actually related to a low-priority bug against an Oracle database API.
Unfortunately, your pseudo-code is a bit complex. Trying a few quick, simpler tests against the standard HR schema did not reproduce the issue. I tried INNER JOIN, and nested SELECTs. It would help greatly if you could provide a test case compilable against one of the standard schema, like HR or SCOTT.

Hi,
Every single time I try and browse data in one of my tables, I get the annoying "Connection is currently busy. Try Again?" pop-up alert message with "Try Again" and "Abort" options.
This is very annoying and I dont know how to stop it happening.
Is this a bug or can someone suggest a setting I can try to get around it?
Cheers,
JulianI don't know if it's worthwhile raising issues with v3 as the developers are now working on v4. You can download an Early Adopter version available on OTN I think.
If you're new to SQL Developer, it's worth knowing that a single click on an item in the navigator tends to do what you would expect a double-click to do. I think a double click can cause the same action to be started twice. -
Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler 3.0 Bugs, Resolution and workarounds
The purpose of this thread is to list bugs discovered while using ORACLE SQL Developer Data Modeler 3.0
Mainly with SQL SERVER 2005 and ORACLE 10g models.SQL Server Physical model doesn't save table identity column.
here are the steps to get this bug:
1. create a table in relational model with a column as an integer to be used as an identity.
2. create or open a physical model for SQL-SERVER 2005
3. open the table in the physical model
4. edit the integer column property dialog
5. tick the identity check box and close the property dialog
6. save the model and close it
7. open it again, you will find the identity check is removed! (probably not saved from the start) -

Set indention / tab size in Oracle SQL Developer
I've been poking around for an hour. Can't figure this out.
Where, either on the app's UI or in the "product-preferences.xml" file, can I change SQL Developer's indention (tab) size to 3? My organization uses PowerBuilder, and when I copy+paste our PB SQL (which uses leading tabs) into Oracle SQL Developer, it looks like crap. It would really help if I could change the code editor to a tab size equivalent to three spaces.
And no, we can’t use spaces. :-)
Thanks!
(maybe SQL Developer 2 could have a tab size field in “Preferences”)In 1.5.x, it's under Preferences - Database - SQL Formatter - Alignment and Indentation .
However, at least in the current 1.5.3, a bug ignores the tab preferences completely, so you're stuck with the 2 spaces. If you can't wait until this gets fixed (with luck in the upcoming 1.5.4 or else maybe by 2.0), revert to an earlier version.

Oracle SQL Developer for OSX not able to compile/execute/handle packages?
Hi,
Have been stuck with this for quite some mins now,
When I execute this simple -valid- create package statement in Oracle SQL Developer:
http://www.pastebin.ca/757859
It shows it's not compiled and has errors, when I check the Packages part in Oracle SQL Developer I see this:
http://www.pastebin.ca/757860
The ; after end has been removed by the application. In fact this means I can't do anything with packages in Oracle SQL Developer for OSX?
Is this a known bug?
Or am I doing something wrong?
Any resolving response to this matter would be really appreciated.Yeah, that bug is in there since stoneage, and is really a no-brainer to fix. Until they don't, we'd be losing time recompiling.
FWIW, everything works fine using the procedure editor for creating, editing and compiling.

Oracle SQL Developer Release 1.5.5 "compile for debug"
Using Oracle SQL Developer Release 1.5.5 on Windows XP pro machine connecting to 9.2.0.4 database on AIX machine.
Trying to debug a procedure, in the navigator window, I rt-clk the procedure and select "Compile for Debug", then nothing happens. This happens for every procedure I've tried. I've been granted both DEBUG ANY PROCEDURE and DEBUG CONNECT SESSION. Any ideas? This is the first I've used SQL Developer, so I'll take the blame. I had not noticed that the Messages Log does in fact tell me that the proc compiled. However, the debug icon (little red bug) was nowhere to be found.
I see now that I need to Edit, not Open, the proc in order to debug. If I had read the Help screens a little more closely, I would have seen that I needed to be in Edit mode. My bad. Thanx to all for your responses. -
Import data using Excel and Oracle SQL Developer - I need some help
Dear friends,
I'm using Oracle SQL Developer 1.5.1 and I need to import an Excel file into a database table. If I try to import this file in XLS format, fields and headers are correctly being shown and separated, but if I press "Next" button, it simply doesn't do anything - it stays stopped.
I did some search here in this forum and it seems to me that, when you try to import a file via XLS format, SQL Developer has bugs. Is this correct?
If I save the same file in CSV format and try to import the same file, it goes ahead, but SQL Developer is not separating fields and headers correctly. It combines all CSV fields into one - let's say Column0 and fields 1;TEST;01/01/2000 below the same Column0.
Saving the file in CSV format is not a problem, taking a very little time. But I don't know how to make SQL Developer import it correctly. Could somebody please help me? Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
FranklinHello K,
yes, you're right. I found the following topic after posting this question here.
Re: After update to 1.5.1, import from Excel fails
I downloaded version 1.5.0 and I'll use it whenever I import data from Excel.
Thanks,

Oracle SQL Developer v 1.5.3 does not export
I attempted to export query results using Oracle SQL Developer. I right-clicked on the result and attepted to export data - it failed without explanation - nothing happened.
I'm a new user with this product - is this a known bug and if so - could you please identify the patch and / or upgrade.
The Oracle DB version for my appliication is 10.2.0.3. Is there a upgraded SQL Developer that should be used. Let me know - thank you.The more exotic the SQL, the more chances it won't export, due to the way they parse and embed your statement in an inner select.
With every version, quite some cases get fixed, so first upgrade to 2.1. If you still see statements that fail, post them here on the forum, so the developer can debug the feature.
Thanks,
K. -

Did you perhaps do a custom install? The DB software includes a version of sql developer and, by default, installs it in the sqldeveloper folder of the DB_HOME. Does that folder have sql developer in it?
I suggest that you NOT use the version of sql developer that ships with the database. That version will NOT be the current version.
Download the current version of SQL Developer, unzip it into a new folder and create a desktop icon for it.
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.html
The current version includes many, many bug fixes from that earlier DB version and you will have far fewer probems with it. -
Exported CSV files are locked by Oracle SQL Developer 2.1.0.63
Whenever I export my query result into a CSV file, the resulting file is always locked for editing by Oracle SQL Developer 2.1.0.63.
Have anybody encountered the same problem? Do you know how can I report this as a bug to Oracle?
Thanks,

[email protected]I got it too if I left SQl Developer open then go to Excel to edit my CSV - got message 'table_export.csv is locked for editing by another user'. If I close SQL Developer then open the file, it works. Seems SQL Developer's holding onto the file after creation.
Bugs are being reported in this forum.

Favorites icon gone from Oracle SQL Developer Help screen
Favorites icon gone from Oracle SQL Developer 3.0 Help Center screen
How do I get it back?
In Oracle SQL Developer 3.0 I clicked
Help->Table of Contents
to bring ut the Help Center window.
It the Help Center window I used to have a Favorites tab next
to the Contents TAB on the left side of the window.
I did an unpin some how and now I can't get the Favorites
TAB back.
On the right side there is a Star + icon that does
Add to Favorites.
I can add links to favorites but I have no way to go to these
saved favorites anymore.
How do I get the Favorites TAB/Icon back?
ThanksHi John,
SQL Developer depends on JDeveloper code for the Help. After closing the Favorites tab I see no way to re-open it in the UI, so I imagine there may be a bug on the JDev side. Fortunately, there is a manual fix:
In file product-preferences.xml
In directory C:\Documents and Settings\<userid>\Application Data\SQL Developer\system3.0.04.34\o.sqldeveloper.11.1.2.4.34
use Notepad to look for the lines like:
<value n="helpDynamicLinksNavigatorLocation" v="3"/>
<value n="helpFavoritesNavigatorLocation" v="0"/>
Just change the value "0" to "2"Regards,
Gary

Viewing table relations inside Oracle SQL Developer
Hi,
I'm a PL/SQL beginner and I need to control the table relations for an Oracle database. I'm using the Oracle SQL developer tool.
Now, how can I see the table relation inside Oracle SQL developer tool?
Thanksitshak wrote:
When working with tables based on user defined types, the FK relations between the tables are not displayed at the data modeler (and also at the worksheet query builder)
I don't think that applies here 1041141 mentioned he is a beginner and did not mention any usage of object types.
If you want to report an issue or possible bug, then please open an extra thread for that. In such a case it helps tremendously if you provide a working test case as well.
