Bug in Snow Leopard Address Book

Apple had an incredible feature in Leopard's Address Book which is now MISSING in Snow Leopard's Address Book. This must be a bug, since it seems unlikely that Apple would choose to remove this.
Let's say you have 15 contacts named "Michael" in your Address Book, and you lookup one of them all the time in your Address Book.. that is your most frequently called "Michael".
In Leopard's Address Book, it would REMEMBER the most recent contacts that you looked up for any search criteria, so as soon as you started typing "Michael", it would take you right to your most-recently-looked-up "Michael"!
But in Snow Leopard, you are out of luck!
Whenever you type in the name "Michael", Snow Leopard's Address Book ALWAYS takes you to the very first "Michael" card alphabeitcally, so you then have to MANUALLY choose the "Michael" you want to see.
What used to be so convenient in Leopard is now much more of a hassle and a pain!

Scott,
This may not be changed in my experience, but Mail 4.x must likely relearn this -- at least this is how I am finding it to work with auto-complete. I seldom actually look up in AB, but just start typing, so I have not had a chance to establish any real frequency of lookup in AB. I expect it will work similarly, but then I have not used enough to confirm.

  • Since i updated to snow leopard, address book no longer syncs to office 2011

I use Office 2011's email program. With 10.5.8, when I entered a new contact into Apple Address Book, it synced with the address book in Office pretty immediately.
Then I upgraded to Snow Leopard a few weeks ago. But I just noticed that when I add an address to Apple Address Book that it no longer syncs and loads into the Office contacts.
(When I started using the new iCal, it was recommended that I uncheck the sync to Mobile Me. It's checked now, just not for Calendar.)
Has anyone experienced this? If so, what did you do to solve?
    Thanks for your help.

This is all a bit confusing.  Your signature says you have 10.4.7 installed.  You have indicated that you have upgraded to 10.6 (Snow Leopard).  Office 2004 is not compatible with Apple's latest OS (10.7 Lion).  If you have 10.6 installed, as you have indicated, it should work.
What is the exact message you are getting?

  • Exchange 2003 support dropped in Snow Leopard Address Book?

It appears to me that the Exchange 2003 support that existed in Address Book in Leopard has vaporized in Snow Leopard. Is this true? I know the Mail/iCal stuff requires Exchange 2007, but the old Address Book worked great with Exchange 2003.
    Any solutions?
    Thanks

    unfortunately it looks that way!
I had it working on Leopard, but I can not get it set up since I installed Snow Leopard (wipe and load)

  • Snow Leopard - Address Book didn't migrate. Help!

My Address Book won't open now that I've installed OSX Snow Leopard. Can you help me fix?

Just to close this off - turns out the Calendar Migration steps outlined in the Upgrading to Lion Server PDF also migrates the shared Address Books.

  • 10.6 Snow Leopard,  Address Book Server, 10.5 Clients needing access

    Hi,
Setup Snow Leopard Server for a local not for profit that I donate some time to. All works great for their 10.6 Clients but (despite a fair bit of research) I cant find a way to get CARDDAV access to 10.5 PPC macs.
Is there a way or app that will let this happen. ie OS X 10.5.8 PPC Client (all patched up) needing to see a shared address book on the server. It can even be read only...
Been trolling through the options but it doesnt look promising... Hoping there is a real answer out there somewhere.

Hi, thanks for the reference.. Had been there without much success.
I am going to investigate a roundabout method... Using a shared address book read/write for the 10.6 clients and then syncing that with google. It would appear that 10.5 can sync via google.
Kind of a strange way to go but its the only thing I can think of at present. A carddav client for 10.5 would be sweet...

  • Snow leopard / address book

Snowleopard installation resulted in duplicte folders in address book.

    Hello:
I do not understand what you mean.
    Where are the "duplicate folders?"
Incidentally, I seriously doubt if installation of OS X 10.6 created your problem.

  • How can I export Outlook 2007 contacts to Leopard Address Book application?

    Hi,
I just bought a MAC and I want to get rid of my PC, but first i want to export my CONTACTS from my Windows MS Outlook 2007 and import them in Leopard Address Book application.
Any way I can do that ?
    Many thanks !

I don't know if doing it with single vcards is the way you want to have it. This can be a quite big task when having many contacts.
In Outlook You can export them as text file. You got to +File - Import and Export+. In the assistent you choose "Export to file". Then you choose "comma seperated (Windows)" In the next step you mark your Contacts folder. Then you choose where you want to save your output file. (I mountet my Documents folder on the mac and saved it there). Finish this assistent.
Now on the mac you open AdressBook. +File - Import - text+ file and choose then your .csv file. Now in the AdressBook a import window opens where you can set all the fields matching to where Outlook stored the information. But basicly it should work without doing there something. Then you can import all Your Outlook contacts in one run.
    Hope this helps You!

  • Import Leopard address book data into Tiger

Is there any way to do this?

The Leopard address book database is not readable on Tiger. You can export vCards and import them in another version of the application as long as the formats are compatible. This won't preserve group memberships though.

  • Leopard Address Book Won't Edit Notes

Hello. This Address Book notes field editing problem has been described for several years now, but I don't believe I have seen a satisfactory answer. The problem: AB won't allow any editing to a contact's Notes field, in or out of "edit" mode. Several seconds after adding or deleting Notes text, AB auto-save feature returns the old text, even if I have "Saved" in the interim. I'm running OS 10.5.8 Leopard. Here are some relevant diagnostic events:
First, after closing the AB app, I deleted 2 preference files, com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist and com.apple.AddressBook.plist, and the AddressBook-v22.abcddb file in the Application Support/AddressBook folder. I relaunched AB but the problem was not fixed.
Second, after "exporting" the Address Book Archive file database to the desktop (as a backup), I deleted the AB application, the Address Book Plug-Ins folder, the above 3 files again, and the com.apple.AddressBook cache files. I then reinstalled AB from my OS install disk. I launched the new AB and got a clean contacts template,  ready for data input. But before I could do that, AB's automatic save feature kicked in and imported the entire old contacts database. Worse, the same "no-Notes-edit-for-you" problem persisted.
Third, I can create new contacts and edit the Notes field to my heart's content.
Fourth, I checked on my other Mac, running 10.6.x Snow Leopard on which I regularly override/replace its AB database by "importing" the Leopard AB archive database file. On the Snow Leopard machine, the AB application edits the notes field just fine in spite of all its data coming from the Leopard machine.
Has anyone really solved this problem? Please advise. If I can't fix this, I will look for a substitute address/contacts application that will run on my desktop and sync with my iPod Touch (any suggestions?).
    Many thanks,
    Don Oswalt

    Hello Don,
Whew, took me a long time to find out where this info is stored, but in...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Metadata/
    Look for files like...
    B144126F-ECB2-11DD-A2CC-0003938BD526/ABPerson.abcdp
The encrypted Note seems stored in that.
The only thing I can suspect at the moment since I can edit the notes in 10.5.8's AB, is that perhaps some of those have Read rights but nit Write Rights... Hmmm, where maybe these older ones Migrated from a different Mac or UUID?
PS. I do not have to even Save, it does it automatically.

Hi all. Have any of you experienced this bug when running Mac OS 10.6.7 (Snow Leopard)...the File:Place function no longer works for text.  I can place graphics/photos, but when I try to place text nothing happens.  Any thoughts about this?  I'm using InDesign CS4.

What has changed recently ont he system? New fonts? Any software updates?
Do you run a font manager?

  • Bugs in Snow Leopard for visually impaired users

I'm new to Mac (MBP 17 inch 2011 model) coming to Mac for first time from Windows.  I am VERY impresseed with the accessibility options that are built into the OS.  However, I ahve found a few bugs that I feel should be addresed in the next release:
    1.  With magnifcation on, the screen will no scroll at all when the application switcher (pressing the Apple+TAB, i.e. ALT+TAB in Windows).  This makes it absolutely impossible to see which appplications are open and which one currently has the focus.  If VoiceOver is enables, it will speak it to you, but you can't scroll the screen to see for yourself.
    2.  In Safari, with maginfication on, if you try to scroll down a page (i.e. the two-finger scroll), you will IMMEDIATELY be taken back to the top of the page.  This makes it absolutely impossible to scroll down a page with magnifier on.  I really want to use Safari because of its tight integration with VoiceOver (you can highlight text, right click, select speach, and it will read it for you).  But, I really need the ability to scroll.  I use bother Magnifier and VoiceOver.  Firefox doesn't have this problem with scrolling, but it doesn't integrate with VoiceOver.
I'll report more issues related to visually impaired users as I become more familiar with mac and Snow Leopard.  But, I will have to say that I am EXTREMELY impressed with the accessibility options already built into the OS.  In Windows, I would have to pay over $1K extra to get JAWS or $700 for ZoomText, both of which can bring Windows to its knees.

  • Add bookmark button and horizontal scroll bar - bugs on Snow Leopard

Safari after update to 5.1.4, has a bug in interface on Snow Leopard (10.6.8): 'add bookmark' button (combined with addres bar), and horizontal scroll bar didn't look good.  I think, that shouldn't happend on flagship Apple browser, on just a little older OS X than 'Lion'.
Clearing (deleting files) 'Cache.db' and .plist files didn't help.

Ok..  maybe corrupted Safari preferences  (.plist )
    Quit Safari.
    Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash.
If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.
If that didn't help, go to Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. If you have any installed, turn that OFF, quit then relaunch Safari to test.
If it's not a plugin, try troubleshooting Safari third party unsupported add ons >  Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues

  • Vcard contact photos are not imported in Snow iMac address book

I use the Address Book export feature to get all the contacts of my Lion MacBook Pro in a vcard file. This file contains the base64 coded photos of my contacts. When I import the vcard file in a Snow iMac, the photos do not show. Any suggestion?
