Bug in Track Naming when importing folder?

Hey All-
Hopefully this is an easy problem to fix! I just imported my entire mp3 collection which on my HD labeled like this:
D:\mp3\Artist - Album\01 - Track Name.mp3
... and so forth. I have spent alot of time making sure all my tags are correct; each mp3 has ID3v1 and ID3v2 Tags which are synchronized.
When I import this folder; D:\mp3 into iTunes it correctly displays the Artist and Album information, but it screws up the Track Name. Instead of showing the Track Name only in the browser view, it shows:
Artist - Track Name
Interestingly enough, when I play a file, the iTunes then recognizes the Track Name properly and resets the view to the proper Trackname only.
Here is a picture which accurately shows the problem:
http://img418.imageshack.us/my.php?image=itunesbug9st.jpg
If I then sync this entire library to my iPod, the track names have this same layout; Artist - Trackname.
Obviously I can't go through 5000 or so songs and play them all until they are displayed properly... is there anything else I can do?
Thanks!
Erik

is there anything else I can do?
Hi Erik,
yes the best thing would be make a copy of your post and paste it in the windows forum ... by the way welcome to the Apple Discussions as you are not running a MAC your question would be best served in the special
iTunes for windows forum. Click here
sounds like you need to 'add to library' all your songs... check it out in the other forum Erik gets confusing otherwise ... good luck ... TP

  • Problem with File Naming when Importing in LR 3

When I previously imported in LR 2, under File Naming, I used a custom template:
{Custom Text}_{Date(YY)>>}_Sequence # (001)>>}.  Sometimes I added custom text and it showed up in my file name and other times I didn’t and then the file name just included the Date and the Sequence # without the Custom Text.
I am having a problem when importing in LR 3.  The dialog box on the right is now called File Renaming instead of File Naming. I am using the same Custom Template I used when importing in LR 2.  There is a line in the dialog box for Custom Text as there was in LR 2.  If I add a custom text name, it shows up at the beginning of the file name correctly as it did in LR 2.  But if I leave it blank, you’ll remember in LR 2 the resultant file name just included the Date and Sequence #, but in LR 3 the file name now is “untitled_Date_Sequence #”.
How do I do this so it doesn’t have “untitled” in the file name?
    Thanks,
    Matthew Kraus

Thanks for reply.  I am using Windows 7 64 bit. I am using 'Copy", not copy to DNG. There are 2 screen shots attached.  The first screen shot is from LR2 and you can see there is no "untitled" in the file name example.  The second is from LR3 and you can see "untitled" is in the first part of the file name in the example.  Do you need any other information?
    Tnaks,

  • When trying to import bought CD's (10yr old) to ITunes, it recognizes the album and the tracks, but when importing I get the error message '  Error occurred while converting 'songname' file. The required disk cannot be found

Seems also that the majority of CD's that have these problems are Warner Music published (I have roughly 20 that display the same problem)

    Windows and iTunes 10.
Had this problem "Error importing file .... songname .... iTunes cannot locate the required file" when trying to import a CD today.
My library is on an external USB hard drive.  iTunes from time to time not only loses its own library file, but also confuses windows into thinking that the library files do not exist.
So the fix where you re-tell iTunes where to find its own media file (using the preferences menu hidden behind some opaque icon for reasons that pass rational understanding) fails, and when you try to find the file using windows explorer, windows possibly confused by apple "helper" files, or possibly lost in a delusion of its own, also thinks there are no files in the music directory.  This despite usage stats on the disk still clearly showing that a lot of space is being used up by files that "aren't there".
The fix for this windows user is close everything down.  Reboot, restart iTunes and presto it as if iTunes's / Window's temporary amnesia never happened.
Last time I "lost" the library was when I did the "upgrade" to iTunes 10. I wrongly put this down to a pathetic upgrade utility. I now realise that iTunes/Windows just loses this key element of the plot from time to time, screwing up windows when it does so.
Astonished how flaky this widely used and let's face it hardly brand new software combination is.
Now I don't know if this spectacularly unhelpful performance is Apple's fault or Microsoft's or both, so I'm not going to bother apportioning my contempt.  Shame on both your houses for needless worry that I'd have to re-rate and re-sort everything from a virgin set of file back ups yet again.

  • 1st track skips when importing cd

My itune just recently had this problem. The 1st track of any cd I import doesnt show up in the itune's library. Anyone have the same problem or solution?

Thanks for your suggestion. I don't think the format is the problem. The other tracks on the cd imported perfectly, only the first song of the cd did not show up in the library.
After re-importing again, the 1st track appeared. I had to re-import over 10 cds so far. Seems problem is very recent like it just happened this week.

  • Bug: Duplicates not detected when importing photos older than year 2001

If you import photos taken before 1st of January 2001 00:00:00, duplicates will not be detected even if you select the "Ignore duplicates" option on import. The files will be imported twice into the same location with a "-2" postfix added to their name.
    Technical details (to help developers):
To detect duplicates, Lightroom uses a so called import hash (AgLibraryFile.importHash in the database) that has the following form:
         <capture_time><original_filename><file_size>,
    where:
<capture_time> - interval in seconds between 1st Jan, 2001 00:00:00 and capture time recorded in Exif,
<original_filename> - name of source file before import,
<file_size> - file size in bytes.
The problem here is the <capture_time> part, since it gets negative for files older than 2001, since 1st Jan 2001 is sort of  considered the beginning of time (called "epoch" in computing). Lightroom seems to get confused on negative timestamps.

I will report this bug.  Thanks!

  • No track names when importing or macbook rejects cd

I just bought a new MacBook and I recently attempted to import some cds, but my computer shoots back out many of my cds. If this does not happen, on every single cd (not all are burned disks) none of the track names, artist, album, etc. appear. This did not happen to me on my pc which ran with windows. Please please help asap. I'd like to get all of my cds imported before I leave for college.

is there anyway to stop iPhoto 9.6 creating a new unnamed album within a named album when I drag a new photo into the named album.  for example:  There is a album called Fred.  I have a new photo of Fred imported into the Last import Folder.  I wanted to drag it into the album called Fred but iPhoto creates a new unnamed album within Fred.

    Many thanks Jaz Eilles

Sounds like you have a folder with an album named fred inside of it.  Folders can only hold other folders, albums, slideshows, etc. but not just photos.  So you must be sure to drop the photo directly onto the album titled fred that resides inside that folder otherwise it will create a new album.
So expand the folder so the fred album is visible and drop the new photo onto the album.

  • When importing, creates folder with wrong date

I found a curious bug in Lightroom 4.2.
If I have pictures taken after 23:00, Lightroom creates an import folder in the next day, but the dates in the files are correct.
    Example:
    The file's date is: 29/11/2012 23:19.
However if I hover my mouse over the image in the import dialog:
The date that appears is 30/11/2012 00:19. Here's the detail:
After you import, you get the image in the wrong import folder, but the meta on the image is correct:
I've started to notice this before, but always thought of a wrong date on my camera. Just noticed that this happens with my camera, iPhone, and any other photo that has a time after 23:00.
Do you know if there is a solution for this?
    Thank you in advance,
    Manuel Azevedo

Does your computer time match with your camera time? Summer-/winter-time apart?
The reason, why I am asking this: the map module auto-assumes that these times match (rather than asking you in which UTC-time zone your image time stamps should be interpreted when tagging from a gpx-track).
Could be that something similar is happening in import module if you let LR auto-create destination folders based on date-time.
I have no experience with this as I prefer to explicitely give the names of the new destination folders myself.

  • File/folder behaviour when importing in iTunes?

I've recently purchased an iPhone 3G. I've also got a substantial mp3 collection (121GB), all ordered in a Genre/Artist/Album subfolder structure. Every file has an ID3 tag properly filled out.
As you can tell I'm an organized person - at least when it comes to music.
I need to know, when I hit the "Import folder", what will happen in the hard drive: Will my folders be modified in any way by iTunes? Or will iTunes create a separate folder with the +same songs+ in it, but just a different order/filetype? Will the new files (or the old files) have some sort of modification done to them, like a format change or a different tag added?
I'd like it if iTunes could "read" my files, but I don't want them modified or doubled-up - that would just ruin all the work I've done and take too much space.
How does iTunes manage the original files and the new files once I import them?
    Message was edited by: couzin2000

Wow - this was a crucial find for me. I just converted to Win7 64bit with a fresh install of all programs including iTunes. When I went to import my library I checked the "Keep iTunes Media files Organized" not knowing exactly what the impact would be. I found out that it completely re-wrote the native folder and filenames in different scenarios (in windows explorer). Once a file was imported into iTunes it hated special character like hyphens or commas ultimately converting them to underscores. Itunes also combined some albums into a single album/folder like Elton John's Greatest Hits 1970-2002 instead of keeping 2 seperate albums for each disc. Other scenarios I was experiencing was basically rewritten incomplete album names. With nearly 40,000 songs (485GB) on my hard drive (8000 songs on my ipod) it was extremely painful to see names being changed without rhyme or reason.
Simply unchecking both of those boxes got me back to my naming and filing conventions. Essentially back to good with no further conversion of special characters or file names.
Unfortunately now I am going back and re-correcting all of the folders and files that were changed under the "checked" settings. Much happier with the organization of the database now.
    Thanks for sharing the note.

  • Locating audio tracks when Importing OMF

I have just imported an OMF from another Logic session. All my audio tracks are in the media folder and all the audio regions are in the session page in their correct places.
But the audio isn't synced up to the regions, is there any way of not doing it manually as I have over 2000 files.
Or is there something I can do when importing the OMF's to make sure this doesn't happen.
I just started a new session straight from the OMF when this happened.
I am now importing the OMF from an open session.
    Any advice greatly appreciated

This has been posted by others in the past, there seems to be changes in FCP 5 and/or QuickTime that make its media not fully-readable by earlier revs of FCP.
I would recapture in FCP 3.

  • When importing a file from a folder

when importing a file from a folder it appears in the organizer as a exclamation mark but no photo. can anyone help i use elements 9

    Hi there,
Digging up an old thread slightly, but is this still definitely the case? Last week double-clicking a folder definitely just opened up a folder for me to explore its contents, but now I'm constantly accidentally importing huge folders into things like After Effects and Mail... it's very annoying!
If there's a fix I'd love to hear it!

  • When importing tracks from a CD to iTunes, only 10 of the 13 songs are imported or shown on the list. How can I import the missing three?

When importing tracks from a CD to ITunes, only 10 of the 13 songs are imported. How can I display and import the missing three? Thanks.

It depends on eaxactly what is wrong with the old laptop. If you're lucky the drive can be extracted and connected to a new computer to extract the data. Otherwise see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Itunes Crashes when importing Music File or Folder on Windows 7 64-Bit with Itune 10.5 and update ios 5

Itunes crashes when importing Music File or Folder ever since i updated it yesterday

You can try downloading 7-Zip (free), or a free trial of WinRAR, and unpack the iTunesSetup.exe or iTunesSetup64.exe file into its components then try installing them individually in alphabetical order (don't try to install SetupAdmin.exe or iCloud.msi). You may get a more useful error message as to which component has problems.

  • Empty import folder when importing Mac Mail 6.5 folders to Mac Mail 4.5

When importing Mac Mail version 6.5 folders into Mac Mail version 4.5 the resulting import folder is completely empty.  The import process happens instantaneously and no error occurs.  Does anyone know if 6.5 is not backwards compatible with 4.5?

That's almost as ludicrous as the reason I'm trying to import new mail into an older version.  At least I know now to quit trying.  Thanks for the answer.
