Build Documents for Cisco Devices

I am in the process of making build documents for Cisco switches and firewalls. Is there any template for making build documents, what are the details that I need to include in the build documents?

the term "build document" can mean many things to many people. Please tells us some more specifics about what you're looking to do.
You might also want to look at some Cisco Validated Design (CVD) documents in the meantime. For instance, look at the Campus LAN Design guide found on this page.

ISE version 1.0 - Unable to get management access for cisco devices

Hi All,
I want to manage all cisco devices with read and write privilege with ISE 1.0.
Is this functionality is available in this version?
I configured the 2960 switch. On switch redius test is successful. When I telnet to the switch, it ask for username and password. But message is authorization fail. But on ISE shows authentication is successful.
Is it configuration issue or this feature is not available in this version?

Privileges for Cisco Devices

I have ACS 3.2 and a bunch of TACACS configured Cisco devices.
I want to give a limited set of access to techs the environment to modify VLAN assignments of ports.
So they would need to be able to access privileged mode, but only execute things like:
sh run
config t
config int y
switchport access vlan x
wr

ACS does has this feature to provide restricted access to users by creating such a restricted profile.
You can create Command Authorization Sets to perform this. Command authorization sets provide a central mechanism to control the authorization of each command issued on any given network device. This greatly enhances the scalability and manageability of setting authorization restrictions.

How to find useful MIBs for Cisco Devices?

Hi,
I am setting up a new Monitoring System (CA Netvoyant). It has some default Cisco monitoring capabilities ( I believe these are soem standard MIBs). I am wondering how can I add more useful Cisco MIBs for the devices I have in my network. There are thousands of MIBs and it looks like it is not easy at all to find the useful ones.
For example the MIBs that can give you Emergency and up to warning level information, cpu, memory, interface errors, module failures (in case of Cat 6500), FWSM, BGP, VPN tunnel status notifications. Is there a list of useful MIBs for each device type, like Cat 6500, ASA5540, Cat 3750-E etc depending on IOS Image?
Any help in setting up the SNMP monitoring system would be really helpful.

If there is a MIB for it, most SNMP Capable Management servers can poll them.
This can be such as FHRP states, Routing Peers, ASA Failover status, Seriel numbers for inventory purposes.
The potential is almost endless, it just depends what you should monitor to ensure you are in the know when your network hiccups.

The Cisco IDS/IPS senors do not perform any AAA functions. You can not validate a user/password externally.

Creating documents for multiple devices

Please note the following:
My problem only occurs when I use 1 login to create 1 core folio with 3 renditions inside it spread across a total of 3 alternate layouts.
I have solved the issue with help from Bob, reading offical Adobe stuff online (and not believeing some of it too), and experimenting.
As of now, the best way I have found go's like this:
1- make a new folio (folioA) using [email protected]
-> add articles with 1024x768. upload em all.
give permission to edit this item to [email protected]
...then...
2- make a new folio (folioB) with exact same name using [email protected]
-> go to the digitalpublishing.acrobat.com login, select the folio that dps.ios made, and copy the articles over one at a time to (folioB), check the box that says "protected" and "locked"
-> log back out and log back in as dps.ios
add in + 480x320 alternate layouts to (folioA) or you will find that (folio B) will show the 320 to android users.
log out and log back in as [email protected]
publish Folio A
log out and log back in as [email protected]
publish Folio B
result:

Weird acting of Socket class while build for iOS device

Hello,
It's kind of weird and frustrating using Socket class to build package for iOS device (iPad in my case) - I do have the certificates files (P12, Provisioning) and I can build a package from FB4.5.1 too, but if I build the package as 'Fast' mode through 'Run Configuration' wizard the Socket works okay, but if I package with 'Standard' mode it never works - even I tested both the modes in same device! Any suggestions/idea - I couldn't able figure out why it's acting strange in different modes!

This is still become ridiculous - I've read in a document online that non-working socket has bug-fix with AIR 2.7, I was using 2.6 previously - so I downloaded the latest AIR 3.0 SDK and rebuild the project - yet its not working! This is ridiculous!

Avoid SWF at all cost and export using Adobe PDF (interactive).
The experience will depend on the PDF reader that the user has installed.

"Document is not licensed for this device"

I bought a law book through digital editions awhile ago and authorized it on my laptop at that time. Since then, i have wiped the laptop and switched to a desktop computer. When I tried authorizing the book on my desktop, it is saying the document is not licensed for this device. Is there any way to fix this? I dont have the original laptop anymore.

When I downloaded Adobe Digital Editions I authorized my computer with my Adobe Account - apparently I wasn't supposed to do that. McGraw-Hill said that their file would ONLY work if the computer was not authorized with an Adobe Account (they should have said so after the order).
So after de-authorizing the account (ctrl+shift+d) I tried to open up the .acsm file again and I got a new error: e_lic_already_fulfilled_by_another_user. I'm afraid that the license was used up by Adobe Account, never mind that it actually never downloaded.
I guess the next step is to try and get another license issued?

Cisco devices configuration for CW-LMS

I am new to CiscoWorks LMS. I am working with a LMS 3.2 fresh installation. I added all the devices (routers, switches and 3 ASAs) into the DCR. Now I need to know how to configure the devices to send relevant info to the CW LMS machine. I am looking for something similar to this:

This is a deployment model for Cisco MARS, which shows what to configure on each device in the network to send the most relevant info (syslog, netflow) to the Cisco MARS.
Is there a best practice for CW LMS regarding this? For example, what syslog level should the routers send to the LMS?

There is a deployment guide whitepaper for LMS at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/cscowork/ps2425/prod_white_papers_list.html . As for what to do syslog-wise, you should configure your logging facility to be local7 (this is the default on IOS, but not on ASA OS), and send at least sev 5 or higher messages. You may want to bump that up to sev 6 (informational), but sev 5 for IOS devices will be sufficient to get things like configuration change messages. For CatOS, you definitely want sev 6.

Textbook download error message: "Document is not licensed for this device type"

Hi everyone,
I bought a textbook that came with a free digital edition. I downloaded it, then tried to load it into Digital Editions (which I registered to my account). The texbook almost finished importing, then at the very end gave me an error message that said "[The name of the book]: Document is not licensed for this device type." The textbook is published by Aspen Law. I'm running Mac OS X 10.7.1 (Lion). Has anyone else had a similar issue or know of a resolution?
I've looked at other forum posts, and my situation seems remarkable like this one:

I called the publishing company and tried to explain this to them, but they just said it was a problem with Adobe and Mac.

You say it could be intruders cutting in - same problem/solution as for any network I think. Access can be password protected or access limited via MAC address filtering. I'm not sure how Apple Tv works with a hidden SSID but that would be another option.
Airplay itself can be password protected through the airplay settings.
I'm not sure if Apple TV works with other authentication such as a password but maybe the manual will assist with this?
