Building a search page that would lead to an interactive report

I am a beginner in APEX ...
Recently i was able to build an interactive report through an sql query and it worked out really well..
Since my table has thousands of rows, users first want the ability to filter using a normal search boxes with few fields on it and then redirect that results into an interactive report...
So my first page would contain several text boxes where users can input their search criteria and a submit button...
On submitting the button, i should call the interactive report on the next page where users can further refine/filter or use all the features of interactive report..
My question is how can i pass this search string from the first page to the interactive report page?? how do i handle the case where the users dont enter any values on some of the text boxes..

The item names / item values can be used to add some filter criteria also to an IR.
Ok here is the example:
You can set a filter on one column for the IR if you add "IR_" before the column name, then call the url with this column as an parameter.
Example. You have an application page with a IR on it that you call like this (page 5):
http://myapex:7777/pls/apex/f?p=&APP_ID.:5:&APP_SES.::NO:::
The IR has a column ENAME wich is shown as eployee name (report heading).
To set a filter ENAME='SMITH' this you call the page like this:
http://myapex:7777/pls/apex/f?p=&APP_ID.:5:&APP_SES.::NO::IR_ENAME:SMITH

If you want to set a different kind of filter. E.g. a ">=" search. Then you should go the way how dan explained. Create extra items for those filter criteria.

The Arrangement tab only appears in System Preferences Displays pane if a second display is recognized by the system (the OS). So it seems like your MacBook is not seeing the TV as being connected.
Describe the video connection between MacBook and TV... What type of video out port does your MacBook model have? How is it converted to the type of port used on the TV?

I could not exit Safari so had to Force Quit but when I open it goes right back to the Yahoo home page that would not close. There was a little light under the Safari icon which told me that Safari was still running. Any ideas??

I could not get out of my Yahoo home page in Safari on my Imac. I had to force quit but when i opened back up the little light under the Safari icon was still on and when i tapped icon I was right back to the Yahoo page which would not close. Any ideas???

Quit Safari (by force if necessary.) Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. That will stop the page from reloading automatically.

XML Page cannot be displayed error on interactive reports

Hi, I am having trouble with a user downloading an interactive report as a CSV output. When a user tries to download the interactive report (as it is displayed when the web page loads, no alterations), they are getting this error:
The XML Page cannot be displayed.
Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the refresh button, or try again later.
A name was started with an invalid character. Error processing resource 'http.............'.
This is only happening with a small group of users which doesn't include me, so it has been very hard to troubleshoot. I can download the report and open in Excel without any problems.
I am using Apex version 3.2 and IE 8. The user did not have multiple windows or tabs open logged into ApEx at the same time.
Has anyone ever had this problem before? I could not find a thread with the same issue.

i'm pretty sure that error comes up when your browser (ie, specifically, i believe) can't render the xml data it's received. i'm also pretty sure, as the full message implies, it's because it doesn't know what style sheet to use when you go to that page. in short, it's a browser config issue. one way to bypass it (to at least prove that it's a browser issue) would be to create a link to your page, right click the link, and do a "Save Target As...". the resulting file will be your valid XML one. fwiw, i've had better luck controlling the manner in which my xml data is received when i use mozilla or netscape (but i'd imagine there's just some setting you'd toggle in IE to avoid your issue).

I am trying to print out information on a Google Maps page. I have the print setting on fit to width but the page does not print that way and some of the page that would normally show on page 2 is missing.

The page prints out fine on Internet Explorer, but not on Firefox. 2 pages are supposed to print out but only 1 prints. Also it does not fit to width even though that's the setting.

That file could be set as a Launch Agent or Daemon in your ~/Library or /Library, You could try to look for it or Safeboot your computer and then empty the trash. Building an extension page in OA Framework

Hi,
I'm very new to OA Framework....on my first assignment. I have to build a custom page that would be invoked using a button from the Oracle delivered Framework page. This custom page will mostly look like the existing Framework page, with some additional input text and other information (there is a business need for creating this page and not personalizing the existing page). My question here is, where do I start??? Can I extend the existing business components and reuse them or should I create everything from scratch with no dependency on the existing page? If I can do both, then which is the best approach?

1. Personalize the seed oracle page and add a Button.
2. give destination URI to your page eg: oa.jsp?page=/xxcomp/oracle/apps/pos/bla_bla_bla
3. Create the custom page from scratch and deploy it in the instance.

Searching for how to create a page that will recreate it self and image uploader!

Does any one knows how I could create client side page that would always recreate it self when a new clients to signs up and become a member to my blog site, so they could manage and add friends to their page and upload image to their album? The idea is to have pages added like it is on Facebook, when a member signs up.
If I server side software is need in order to achieve this goal; what type of server side software do I need for this design? Please contact me if you have any idea.
I also would like to receive any information on where to find script that will help visitors upload images to my site.
I have done with other parts of my web design adding this idea is all I need to finish. Your help is immensely appreciated.

How do I reorder the list of fields on my search page?

I have about 10 fields in my query criteria for my search page. They don't appear to come up in an order that would be meaningful to my users, so I'd like to change it. But I can't figure out how. They do always show up in the SAME order, but that order does not appear to be based on anything specific. It's not in column order from the database, it's not in alphabetical order, length order, anything, as far as I can tell. The criteria don't show up in the Design view or the Source file. In the view's XML file, they're in a different order than how they appear on the page. There doesn't appear to be any sequencing information anywhere, as far as I can tell.
Does anyone know how to do this? I'm using build 4814. Thanks!

note that you are working with a non-public build, which means that you should really use the internal forum if you are from Oracle. Since the question appears to be generic, lets continue despite of this.
How did you build the search page, is it that you used the af:query element ? Note that there are several options to build search pages, which makes it important to be specific of which implementation you have chosen. If you are Oracle internal, please send me a testcase based on the HR schema

Hello! I'm fairly new to APEX and adapting to the features and terminology related to this product.
I don't think this issue is unique to Oracle Reports, but rather the concept of a page that reads from table (maybe a "report?") to provide a result set of data which the user can click on a result to direct to another page.
In any case, I have a table in the database which stores all the attributes (report title, parameter names, RDF name, etc) of about 100 Oracle Reports. So far, I've successfully created an application page that features Items that are used to execute a single Oracle Report. Now, instead of creating unique individual pages for each of the 100 Oracle Reports, featuring the report's attributes (parameters, etc), what do I need to do just have one APEX page that dynamically reads from the table and builds the Region and its Items based on what's in the table? Furthermore, I would like to have an initial page that lists every report available to the user, which they can then click on the name, and then it will take them to the page that presents all the parameters needed to execute the report. How to do this? I understand there is a concept of List (under Shared Components), but it would be impractical to create a List and an entry for each report, and then branch to the parameter page...not to mention, whenever a report is added or deleted, the List would need to be updated.
Can someone give me some pointers on how to approach this? It doesn't seem all too complex, but I just don't know at this point what the most practical way of accomplishing this...not sure what kind of pages, region, items, etc to create.
Also, any reference books that you guys recommend on the ins/outs of APEX? I realize Oracle has documentation, tutorials, and OBE's on this product, but from what I've seen they aren't thorough enough in explaining what each property/attribute of the various objects that can be created in APEX.

Not sure from the provided information if this out of the box capability will meet your actual requirement, but try the Create Page wizard > New page > Form > Form on a Table with Report as a first approximation.

Need to create a JSP page that informs user how many SMSes are sent.

My project , which is based on a web-based group SMS module is working , but unfortunately when I send out the group SMS to the selected group , the notification of the sending of SMS is only made visible in the Apache Tomcat status screen . For every SMS sent , the Apache Tomcat screen will display that the SMS is sent to this phone number and recipient number out of the maximium number of recipients.
How can I make a JSP page that would allow me to display these messages instead ? Any help and advice would be welcomed .

The simple way would be to just write a simple jsp that takes the output of the class and displays it. A JSP is nothing more than a servlet class, so you can use your existing classes inside it. If you want to do it the correct way, you should use taglibs to build the JSP. It's up to you.
I suggest buying a good book about JSP's and read that first, else you may be a little overwhelmed.

How do I start a second page that will be linked to my Home Page?

I am new to webdesign. I followed the tutorials and have my home page (index.html) all set up; now I want to add some pages that will be linked to my home page, but I can't find a tutorial that addresses this. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thank you, Mr. Monroe

I’m using Dreamweaver CS4, by the way. If my second page, as well as subsequent pages, will not look like my index page, especially if I want to use a different template, should I not start a new page, with File > New> Blank Page > HTML > Template of Choice > , etc. ?
If I do this, the next step is to choose a Doc Type. Which should I choose? I would guess that I should choose an HTML type, since this is the code that I have selected. Should I choose the HTML 4.01 transitional or the HTML 4.01 strict?
Then, in the drop-down window, under CSS Layout, which of the three selections do I choose: Add to Head, Create New File, or Link to existing File?
When I selected (by guessing) “HTML 4.01 transitional”, and then “Link to existing File” and then clicked on “Create”, the following message came up:
“You must specify the external style sheet that contains the CSS for this layout.”
This leads me to think that I have to create an external style sheet (CSS) for this page that would possibly also be used for subsequent pages. This begs the following question: Is the creation of an external style sheet (CSS) the first step in designing a new web page (if one doesn’t use the “save as” technique)?
I can appreciate why all three responders have suggested that I use “save as” to start a new page since using the File > New method appears to be quite complicated. However, the use of possibly various templates seems to require that I use the File > New method. Is this a correct conclusion?

Hierarchy Viewer - with a separate search page

I would like for my search page to be separate than the one that contains the hierarchy viewer component.
But, when a click on a row in the table produced on the search page, I would like it to trigger a search on the page with the hierarchy viewer based on the selected data.
I am using version 11.1.2.3.0.
Can you direct me to a example or documentation that could help?

why don't you use a View Criteria, drag and drop it as a search form, then after querying the search form, navigate to the next page where you have the hierarchy viewer based on the same top-level ViewObject? This then will show the filtered data from the first screen. However, what it doesn't allow you to do this way is to filter on a second node level of the viewer

Search Query that crawls words in PDFs

Hello, I'm building a website where people can look at PDFs for a library. It will be exactly like this http://173.12.11.248/
What I'm stuck on is building the search page. http://173.12.11.248/search.htm
I used the tutorial on Adobe on building a search and results page and I have a database recordset, but how do i enter in MYSQL the PDFs so that they will be searched through.
I tried having the PDF row be a TEXT field with the link to the PDF on the site, but that didn't work.
Any ideas?

It's not clear to me what you are asking. It sounds as if you have built a page that searches a database, but what you need is to search file contents. The link you provided is using ASP so it's going to be difficult to do a pdf file search with that. If you were using PHP you could use the pdfsearch.php class. But that's going to be extemely slow to search many documents. You're better off using an indexing search engine like zoom :www.wrensoft.com/zoom

HELP need simple search page

Hi. I need to build a search page of the database. I think it's a simple search. The "catalog" is set up in the MYSQL database structure into two tables :authors and books: which are relational via ID numbers. The idea is to enter a search term on the search page and come up with a list of results that look like catalog entries. Each catalog entry consists of book, author, picture, and description. The user needs to be able to enter any term, or partial term and come up with entries. How do I do this?
I'm in CS3.

Have a form with form action that goes to script.php on script.php create a recordset and filter entered value against database table field. Then add bindings onto the page to show the results of the filtered recordset. Nest the bindings in a repeat region to display results if there's more than one result available in the search query.

Search page with Non-Mandatory Fields

I have a Search page that has 12 fields where Nothing is mandatory while inputting at least one(any of the fields) is mandatory. I am looking to reduce the code in this case, I don't want to use a Stored procedure or backing bean method to handle the if and else's. I would be excited to handle this at the Model part itself(Writing a proper SQL query or by means of bind variables/view criteria).
Hope the use case is clear.

You can use ViewCriteria with Validation property set to "Selectively Required"
