  • How to build a small fcpx network

    Hey guys,
Currently I am a church tech director and I do a lot of work in FCPX, Motion, Logic and Compressor. We are looking at hiring an Assistant Tech Director or an Intern to help me out at which point we will get a second mac pro. We have a building network but it is pretty slow and there are about 25 staff members that access it. I would like to get something set up where I have about 12TB of space that can be shared between me and the new hire but is fast enough to edit directly from or transfer libraries back and forth from they're mac to mine. Any ideas of an efficient yet not to expensive way to do this? Currently I have an early 08 MP 3.0ghz 8-core with 32gb ram and 12tb internal 7200rpm for files and 256tb ssd for programs and a sapphire HD7950 gpu. It does ok if I keep my libraries fairly small and only one or two open at a time. For the second computer (which will become mine) we are going to get the best new MP that we can afford (probably one thats about $3000). Anyways any ideas would be appreciated and if you need more info, let me know.

While I have no direct experience with that setup, it looks to me that if you can place two new macs and a decent TB raid you can easily create a fast private network over TB. In that case you could probably opt for two Retina MBP or maybe one 15" MBP and a MB Air for about the price of that MP. I am sure that a 15" MBP and maybe even an Air  will run circles around your current mac and you'd get more productive with two current macs.

  • Using WCCP on a corporate network

I am wanting to know if it is possible to use WCCP within my corporate network. I have some Bluecoat Port 80 devices on each site, and one in a DMZ. I also have a 6509s with MSFCs on each site. Would it be easier to use WCCP or just the advanced forwarding options offered within the Bluecoat configuration. Anyone with experience of this? Any replies much appreciated in advance.

for the bluecoat devices in each building, how do you intercept the traffic ?
Are you using them as proxy ?
With what you described, I would suggest to use wccp on the router in each building. Each router will intercept the web traffic and redirect it to its local BlueCoat.
The local BlueCoat can then contact the central Bluecoat device using the advanced forwarding option just like you're doing now.
You can upload a topology diagram and more information in ftp://ftp-sj.cisco.com/incoming. Then, post a message with the filename and I'll be able to retrieve it.
From there I can better assist you with the wccp implementation.
    Regards,
    Gilles.

  • How to setup a small office network

    Hello,
I am looking to setup a small office network comprising 6 G4 macs (existing computers) that have been upgraded to the newest OS version. What is the best way to go about networking these computers together in terms of being able to share files, internet connection, access to peripherals and also implementing a firewall.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

1, Get a cable internet ISP account; depending on your service you should be able to secure a 5Mbps down and 2Mbps up on the cable e.g. Cox or Comcast.
    2. Get a good router. The mass market Linksys and Netgear routers aren't very good in terms of reliability. I use a ZyXEL P-330W router is the best I've ever seen. Its reliable and very efficient in terms of throughout. The Apple Airport Extreme is good.
    3. Set up the router to support UPnP. This way all computers will be able to share iChatAV video conferencing. If you enabled "port forwarding" only one Mac would be able to use iChatAV video conferencing.
    4. Set up your router for DHCP to dynamically issue Internet address to all your computers.
    5. Setup the wireless router for encryption such as WPA. This will encrypt wireless communication.
    6. Setup the wireless router for only your computers. You'll have to get the MAC/AirPort ID network addresses as expressed in terms of an xx:xx:xx:xx address. You can get this thru your Systems Preferences -> Network window -> AirPort (in the sidebar) -> Advanced button.
    7. If you have Ethernet in your office then skip steps 5 and 6 above.
    8. On each computer open up the System Preferences -> Sharing and check-off the File Sharing. Set your user access preferences appropriately.
9. Get a Network enabled All-in-one printer and setup Printer Sharing options. Hook-it up to your network and add your printer by clicking on the "+" sign in your "Print and Fax" Preferences.
    10. Don't enable Apple Firewall on each Mac. The router will be the Firewall.
Ok. That's the short-hand.. plug it all in and go!

  • Randomly monitor small office network

Looking for a user-friendly, dummy-proof article on creating a small office network from a total of four Mac's (3 iMacs, one Air), allowing the administrator to randomly monitor without detection the real-time activities taking place on the other two machines. Triple points for iOS monitoring capabilities, as well

    Hello, rjbm_exact.
You definitely need a managed switch and a Cisco Small Business (200 or 300 series) can meet your requirements. You can setup separate VLAN to segregate user access level. Are you also looking at expanding your wireless (guest access)?
Let me know if you need more assistance or e-mail ([email protected]) me directly. Kind regards.

  • Computers on small office network - names getting confused on iChat

We are using bonjour and iChat on the computers on a small airport network in our office as an instant messaging solution in our office - however, 2 of the computers (which are named differently) keep getting confused and both being called the same name.
I have done the fix where you go to System Prefs, Users & Groups and then set the address book card to that particular computer owner, restart the computer and then open iChat (using bonjour) - it saves the name but then my colleague becomes the same name as me on iChat - so we do the same thing to her computer (set address book card etc) and it changes her iChat name, but then also seems to override what I had set for mine previously.
Help!! What can I do to stop these 2 computers seemingly overriding each other? It doesn't happen with the other 4 computers sharing our network...

    Hi,
In System Preferences > Sharing is the Name the Computer has.
This does play a part in any Bonjour Connection.
It is this name that appears in Shares in the Finders's Side bar.
Separate for that iChat and Messages that have the Bonjour Account Enabled broadcast the details from the My Card in the Address Book.
Issues can arise with some Server based Logins that create a Global Address book that changes the My Card.
You get similar difficulties on some DiskImage roll outs of updates and the like if the details of the Address Book are copied as well.
I am not sure what you mean by the "fix" in System Preferences > Users and Groups to change the My Card or the Computer's Name.
Yes you can click the Contact Card for that account and it will show you it in the Address Book and it should be th My Card.
Changing the My Card then does not alter which Card is associated with the Mac User Account.
There is no access to the Computer's Name

  • Some websites don't work in Safari when I VPN into my corporate networke

discussions.apple.com as well as facebook.com don't work if I'm connected to my corporate network using VPN. I am forced to use Camino in I want to access those sites. Does anyone know why?
    Thanks!

You might try installing a fresh version of SafariStand and see if you still have the problem with dead links. I'm not familiar with the 'Quick Search' feature but you could have a look at Glims. Don't try to run both Glims and SafariStand together.

  • How do I set up an Apple TV with a corporate network?

    Hi all,
I am aware that there are a lot of resources around that explain how to create a Configuration Profile for connecting an Apple TV to a corporate wireless network, and I think I understand them. But the issue I am struggling with is how to get the Apple TV initially configured - it seems to need to be connected to a wireless network in order to perform its initial configuration, but the initial configuration determines how it will connect to the wireless network.
    Am I missing something here?
    Regards
    Julian

Hi diesel vdub. Unfortunately this does not work here.  The symproms are the AppleTV gets into a state at startup where the 'setting time' never comes back, and prompts me to check network settings. When I check network settings and press 'test network', it tells me that it cannot do this because time has not been set.
A bit of a Catch-22 I think. This does not happen in my home environment, so seems to point to a corporate network issue, which I expect to resolve through using a Configuration Profile, but I am struggling to get the device ready for this.

  • Is it possible to restrict access to individual SharePoint Online sites (or site collections) to users only connecting when on the corporate network?

    Hi,
We have an Office 365 environment which is linked to our on premise ADFS environment. We have started to make some deployments of sites to our SharePoint Online environment. For the majority of sites this is great and the ability to access the sites
from anywhere is a real bonus. However, there are some sites and data that I would be much more comfortable in migrating to SharePoint Online if there were a way to make them only accessible via users/computers connected to the corporate network.
I have seen articles in how you can configure ADFS to allow all connections to the Office 365 tenant only from the network or not but what I am after is something which can be configured on a site by site basis (i.e. not the whole Office 365 environment
or SharePoint Online environment) to only allow access when connecting from the corporate network.
Any advice/help would be much appreciated?
    Many thanks
    Paul

    Hi,
This is the forum to discuss questions and feedback for Microsoft Office, the issue is more related to SharePoint online, I recommend you post your question to the Microsoft Office 365 Community Sites and document sharing Forum

  • Small business network issues!!!

I am at my wits end with this problem:  We have a small business network consisting of 6 Mac Pro computers and 2 Windows PCs.  Everything was working fine until we needed to replace one of the WinXP machines with a Windows 7 machine.  None of the Macs can see the PCs unless they physically type in the IP address (they used to show up in the finder as the computer name).  None of the PCs can access the Macs at all and now shares on one of the Macs are no longer visible by the rest of the network.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Computers:
    Mac Pro 10.7.5
    Mac Pro 10.6.8 (x4)
    Mac Pro 10.5
    Windows 7 64-bit Professional
    Windows XP Professional
I have made sure that every computer uses the correct workgroup name and that all file sharing is enabled.

I've seen it take 45 minuyes for a PC to announce it's name on the network, just sayin'.
Anyway, does the PCs IPs ever change?

  • Setting up a small business network using mac and windows pcs

Setting up a small business network using mac and windows??

Ok that sounds great. What is your actual question as it relates to AirPort networking? Is it: Can I set up a wired/wireless network with an AirPort base station that support multiple Mac & PC clients? If so the answer is yes.
If, instead, it is how to I configure an AirPort network to support a small business you will have to provide more details on both your networking & computing equipment in order for any of us to help you.

  • I'm trying to download ML, and get the product distribution file error. I have repaired the permissions in Disk Utility, I don't seem to have a applestore cache. I am on a corporate network, so am thinking it might be firewall related. Ideas?

    Hello folks
I've tried every option I can to self support, from disk repair to deleting caches (I don't usually use the appstore so don't have one), and I don't have a pckge file either.
I'm on a corporate network that restricts access to iTunes, so suspect it may be related to a firewall issue, although it has been relaxed to let me access the app store.
Any other ideas of what to check myself before I go to tech support, and what do I need to get them to do. They are not really a mac supporting unit, so I need specific instructions.
I'm on a mac pro, upgrading from Snow Leopard, so download is my only option.
    Thanks

Read this whole message before doing anything.
    Back up all data.
Quit the App Store application if it’s running.
    Step 1
Hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Delete the following items from the Library folder (some may not exist):
    Caches/com.apple.appstore
Leave the Library folder open. Try the App Store again. If it works now, stop here. Close the Library folder.
    Step 2
If you still have problems, quit again. Go back to the Finder and move the following item from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
    Cookies/com.apple.appstore.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
Test. If the App Store now works, delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, quit again. Put back the files you moved, overwriting the newer ones that may have been created in their place, and continue.
    Step 3
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
    test -d $TMPDIR../C/com.apple.appstore && rm -r $_
Drag or copy and paste the selected line — do not type it — into the Terminal window. You should get a new line ending in a dollar sign ("$"). Quit Terminal.
Test. If the issue is still not resolved, post again.

  • "Unable to connect to the database" when connected to corporate network

    Hi
Installed Primavera P6 V7 and Oracle 10g in Stand alone on XP 32bit machines with SP3. When our machines are NOT connected to the corporate network it works fine.
However when connected to the network we can not access the locally stored database. We get message "primavera unable to connect to the database. would you like to configure the database connection now"
Database on servers that we set up are fine regardless.
If we connect machines to just the internet, again no issues.
So something is stopping Primavera opening local database when connect on our corporate network.
    Any ideas please?
    Thanks

This may be a long shot but look into how your TNSNAMES.ora file is being distributed on the domain (or are you possibly utilizing LDAP.ora on the domain side?).
Some time ago I remember a company scripting an ENV variable on domain logon that altered where the Oracle client would pull the TNSNAMES from.
