Building Openssh 3.9p1 on Solaris 10

Building Openssh 3.9p1 on Solaris 10
Openssh will use Openssl's random number source, which uses /dev/urandom.
In Solaris 10, new O_NOFOLLOW interface is introduce and Openssl could not open /dev/* appropriate.
The following instructions show how to install Openssh 3.9p1 on Solaris 10
Components
openssh-3.9p1.tar.gz
http://www.openssh.com
openssl-0.9.7e.tar.gz
http://www.openssl.org
rand_unix.c (Updated Version to fix O_NOFOLLOW is not appropriate when opening /dev/* entries on Solaris 10)
http://cvs.openssl.org/chngview?cn=12824
To Build and Test OpenSSL
Change directories to the openssl-0.9.7e directory
$ rm crypto/rand/rand_unix.c
$ cp ../rand_unix.c crypto/rand/
$ ./Configure solaris-x86-gcc
$ make
$ make test
$ make install
Configuring Openssh
Change directories to the openssh-3.9p1 directory
Reference to Sun BluePrint online, as a best practice, you should build Openssh with the following arguments:
$ ./configure with-pam disable-suid-ssh without-rsh with-lastlog=/var/adm/lastlog prefix=/opt/OBSDssh sysconfdir=/etc/ssh without-privsep-user without-privsep-path without-prngd without-rand-helper with-ssl-dir=/usr/local/ssl with-tcp-wrappers=/usr/sfw
$ make
$ make package
To install Openssh
$ pkgadd -d OpenSSH-OpenSSH_3.9p1-Solaris-i386.pkg
$ cd /etc/ssh
$ rm key
$ # ssh-keygen -t rsa1 -f /usr/local/etc/ssh_host_key -N ""
$ # ssh-keygen -t dsa -f /usr/local/etc/ssh_host_dsa_key -N ""
$ # ssh-keygen -t rsa -f /usr/local/etc/ssh_host_rsa_key -N ""

  • Advise Requested - Building a Home Server using Solaris 10

    I'm currently a Wintel sysadmin, and I'm relatively new to Unix. I know the basics, and I have been reading up on it. I'll be taking a the 200 level Sun class in August or September. I'll be working with Solaris on an increased basis at work very soon. Since I've been thinking of building a home server for some time I thought it would be a good opportunity (and challenge) to teach myself Solaris by building a server with Solaris 10 for Intel processors.
    I would like to setup a server with a RAID mirror. It's mostly going to be a Samba file server, Apache web server, and backup server for all of my home Windows Vista PCs. I'll likely put in two 1 terabite HDDs in it. I might also use it as a VPN server for my home network eventually as a I learn more.
    Does anyone have suggestions they could give me on hardware? I prefer to build an ATX compliant clone.
    So far this is the motherboard I'm considering:
    http://www.mwave.com/mwave/skusearch.hmx?&scriteria=BA23931
    ANY ADVISE would be greatly appreciated!!!!

    Change your SSH port to something other than 22! Make sure your ssh keys use passphrases. You can setup keychain (ssh-agent) on the server and clients to keep keys in memory if you desire without constantly retyping (and for automated backups).

  • Building 64bit shared library on Solaris 10

    I'm trying to port a Java application that depends on BerkeleyDB from GNU/Linux to Solaris 10. The GNU/Linux version was just recently rebuilt against Sun Java 6. The 64bit version of the JVM for the AMD Opteron processor. It produced a 64bit shared library. All is well in GNU/Linux land.
    I try building BerkeleyDB on Solaris following the instructions in the documentation and it produces a 32bit shared library. So when the application starts up and tells the JVM to run in 64bit server mode it complains it cannot load a 32bit shared library. So my question is how do I force the build system to build a 64bit shared library in Solaris 10?
    I'm using the Sun Studio 11 compiler for building BDB. I'm also doing this on a T1000 so any T1000 specific flags would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    I am not familiar with your particular environment. The general method for building a 64 bit Berkeley DB library on Solaris is to pass the "-xarch=v9a" flag to the configure command.
    I hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to build a binary working on solaris 8 from solaris 10

    Hi
    I understand that my requirement is kinda weird. However, I really wonder whether it is possible sometimes.
    I have built ssh successfully both on solaris 8 and solaris 10. Now the problem is the binary built on solaris 8 can work on solaris 10, but the binary built on solaris 10 can not work on solaris 8.
    The problem is SUNW_1.2.2 can not be found on solaris 8.
    $ldd sshd
            libresolv.so.2 =>        /usr/lib/libresolv.so.2
            librt.so.1 =>    /usr/lib/librt.so.1
            libsocket.so.1 =>        /usr/lib/libsocket.so.1
            libnsl.so.1 =>   /usr/lib/libnsl.so.1
            libc.so.1 =>     /usr/lib/libc.so.1
            libc.so.1 (SUNW_1.22) =>         (version not found)
            libdl.so.1 =>    /usr/lib/libdl.so.1
            libaio.so.1 =>   /usr/lib/libaio.so.1
            libmp.so.2 =>    /usr/lib/libmp.so.2
            /usr/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-V210/lib/libc_psr.so.1After more detailed investigation, I found the system-call dlopen and so on are linked to SUNW_1.2.2
    objdump -T sshd|grep SUNW_1.22
    00251240      DF *UND*  00000000  SUNW_1.22   dlerror
    00251510      DF *UND*  00000000  SUNW_1.22   dlclose
    00251738      DF *UND*  00000000  SUNW_1.22   dlopen
    0025181c      DF *UND*  00000000  SUNW_1.22   dlsym
    00251a98      DF *UND*  00000100  SUNW_1.22   unsetenvBut for the binary built on solaris 8, system-call dlopen is provided by SISCD_2.3.
    objdump -T sshd|grep dl
    0023f160      DF *UND*  00000008  SISCD_2.3   dlopen
    0023f16c      DF *UND*  00000008  SISCD_2.3   dlclose
    0023f274      DF *UND*  00000008  SISCD_2.3   dlerror
    0023f8d4      DF *UND*  00000008  SISCD_2.3   dlsymAs sshd from solaris 8 is working on solaris 10, I think SISCD2.3 is also available on Solaris10. So is it possible to build ssh (any special link option?) with SISCD_2.3 rather than SUNW_1.2.2?

    Build on 8, run on 8 through 10.

  • Does Windows Forms Builder version need to match Solaris A/S version ?

    We have Forms Builder 10.1.2.0.2 on our Windows client developer PCs. Recently we patched our Solaris Application Server to 10.1.2.2.0.
    Do we need to patch our client Forms Builder in order to match versions, since we only design and save the forms in Windows ? (they get moved and compiled on Solaris)
    Thanks,
    Dave

    The AS Forms version must be not lower than Forms Builder version. We develop some applications with Forms 6i (Client), and compile the same on AS 10.1.2.

  • OpenSSH between Windows and Solaris

    Hi all,
    I have been given a task to set up SSH connection between Solaris 10 and Windows XP sp2. I'm quite new with the Solaris 10 and don't have any ideas to set up the SSH. Is it that i need to install some software in windows XP in order to set up the SSH and I'm quite confused with which side should be the SSH server and which one will be the SSH client. Can anyone give me some tips/guidance on how to do it or some documentation? Your help are really appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Francis

    Hi~
    Thanks for the response abrante. I have found out my problem. It seems that my port 22 in Solaris 10 machine is not open. When i tries to telnet the port 22, it says could not open the connection to the host, on port 22: connect failed. Is this because the SSH deamon in Solaris does not running? I have already type *#svcadm enable SSH* in the Solaris 10, but after i use the *#scvs -a | grep ssh*, it shows maintenance  8:45:06 svc :/network/ssh:default. What does this means? Does it means ssh is not running? After i tries with svcs -xv ssh, it shows:
    State: maintenance since Thu Nov 17 09:07:44 2011
    Reason: Start method failed repeatedly, last exited with status 1.
    Impact: This service is not running.
    I also tries to clear the state of ssh using svcadm clear ssh and disable and enable the service again but it doesn't work and still come out with the maintenance status. What should i do in order to solve this problem? Look forward for your response.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Francis

  • Build for solaris 8 on solaris 10 - possible?

    I want to build/compile an application for solaris 8, but I only have access to a machine running solaris 10. Can I compile for solaris 8 on a solaris 10 machine, and if so, what do I have to do to make it work?

    The short answer is generally no.
    The long answer is that it can be done but you will need to make sure that on the Solaris 10 machine you only use functions/headers/libraries that are available on Solaris 8 otherwise they will not be found and the software won't work.

    C++ 5.7 will not give good results building Boost.
    Support for boost began with C++ 5.9 (Sun Studio 12), but you will get better results using the current release, Sun Studio 12 update 1, and better still with the upcoming release, Oracle Solaris Studio 12.2.

  • Setting up a remote build host in Oracle Solaris Studio 12.3

    I'd like to use the remote build host feature of Oracle Solaris Studio 12.3.
    I'm running Solaris 11.0 (soon will upgrade to 11.1) everywhere.
    The idea is that the remote build host be a NGZ of a server where Oracle Solaris Studio 12.3 has been installed via IPS.
    At the other end is a Solaris 11 desktop.
    I couldn't find in the documentation enough information to help me understand how to perform this setup.
    Does anybody have successfully set up a remote build host?
    If so, please, how?
    Thanks in advance,
    Carlos.

    This has been solved by SR where all things were clarified.
    The summary of solution I adapted to my needs I have shared on my blog on

  • SFTP logs on Solaris 10

    Hi,
    We are running ProFTPd as SFTP (and FTP) Server on Solaris 10.

  • Solaris 8 on Intel STL2 server board - installation problem

    Hi,
    I try to install Solaris 8 (4/01) on Intel STL2 server board (P III 866 MHz, SDRAM 512 ECC Reg, Adaptec AIC7899 Dual Channel-one Ultra160/LVD channel, Intel PRO/100+ Fast Ethernet Controller, ATI Rage* IIC SVGA) - without success.
    It recognizes all devices but after I choose Solaris Interactive installation (from CD labeled Solaris 8 Software 1 of 2 Intel Platform Edition) it displays:
    Booting kernel/unix...
    SunOS Release 5.8 Version...
    then reboots after 2 seconds.
    Since Intel STL2 board appears in the HCL for Solaris 8 I have struggled a while with the problem. I have not found neither post nor driver update information concerning this issue on the Solaris' related Web sites.
    Finally, I found the very strange specification update info of STL2 board, published by Intel:
    "13. Sun* Solaris* 8 installation issues
    PROBLEM: Sun Solaris 8 cannot be installed on the STL2 server board with any BIOS version later than BIOS Release 1.1, Build 15. The system reboots during install and therefore the installation cannot be completed.
    IMPLICATION: Installation of Sun Solaris 8 cannot be completed on an STL2 server board running any BIOS release later than BIOS Release 1.1, Build 15.
    WORKAROUND: Sun Solaris* 8 will successfully install on the STL2 server board with BIOS Release 1.1, Build 15."
    My BIOS release on the STL2 board is 1.7. It's too new to install Solaris 8 !?!
    I am unable to get an old STL2 model with BIOS 1.1. Is there a way to update anything in the Solaris 8 in order to set it up on the new model of Intel STL2 server platform?
    I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
    Matt

    The problem has been resolved.
    I got the older BIOS 1.1 Build 15 for Intel STL2 from Intel Internet Support. After I installed BIOS 1.1 instead of BIOS 1.7 had no problem with installation of Solaris 8.

  • Bug setting Content-Disposition of response with the July 20th build of Weblogic 6.1

              I am using the July 20th Beta build, weblogic610_bld_127633_sol.bin, running under
              Solaris OS 2.6.
              I have two basic questions:
              1. Why am I seeing the error I describe below.
              2. Will this problem be fixed either by:
              A. A new release of the iisproxy.dll accompanying Weblogic 6.1 GA release on July
              30th (I currently use the iisproxy.dll which accompanied Weblogic 6.0 sp 1).
              B. A fix in the jsp response handling of the application server in the GA release.
              When used with the iisproxy.dll, in Weblogic 6.1 a jsp can not contain code to
              alter the filename in the response it is returning based on a request. This functionality
              worked in both Weblogic 4.5 and Weblogic 6.0 sp2.
              I use the following code to send back a tab seperated value file with a variable
              filename from a jsp page.
              response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "filename=" + strFileName ".tsv");
              response.setContentType("text/tab-separated-values");
              When hitting Weblogic Server directly, this code works fine in Weblogic 6.1.
              My browser presents me with a download prompt, with a default filename equal to
              the variable filename I am setting in the jsp page.
              When hitting Weblogic Server through iisproxy.dll, iisproxy.dll gets the response
              from the application server, ignores it, then repeatedly resends the request to
              the application server. It gives up after 6 "bad" responses, and returns
              "No backend server available for connection: timed out after 20 seconds.".
              The functionality was perfect with the identical iisproxy.dll used with either
              Weblogic 4.5 or Weblogic 6.0 sp2.
              Things I have already tried:
              I can't find a newer version of the iisproxy.dll than the one that came with Weblogic
              6.0 sp1 (This is the 696 KB one).
              I have confirmed that the exact line of code which breaks the iisproxy.dll is
              the line where you set the filename. The download prompt works fine if you don't
              try to alter the response to set a specific filename.
              I have confirmed that changing the file extension to .jsp while still trying to
              alter the filename fails.

    As you said, it could be the WLS6 truststore which doesn't contain the certificate authority. Just check which files are used (cacerts, cacerts.jks,..), and maybe you can find it by checking the option startup : -Dweblogic.security.SSL.trustedCAKeyStore
    It doesn't matter when the exception is triggered (you can do an explicit handshake, or just write in the socket and then wait for an implicit handshake)
