Bulk entry of label help text
Hi all,
Is there a way to enter help text for labels 'en masse'. The product manager for one of our applications wants to go through and put new help text on every label.
This is obviously a fairly tedious and time consuming task and I was wondering if there was a simpler way than going through the application and finding each item and setting the text? The manager is definitely 'non-technical' and frankly I'd be wary of letting him have direct access to the application definition, yet I don't really want to spend ages entering all this help text myself!
Any thoughts anyone?
Cheers,
Steve H
Steve,
You can achieve this in bulk via the built-in application reports:
Appilcation > Application Reports > Page Components > Item Help Text
It's a really easy process so you shouldn't have any issues for a non-techie doing it (although a backup is never a bad idea!!). By default, the report only displays items that currently have help text, so you have the option to 'Seed Item Help Text' with some default text. Once this is done, you have access to all item's help text's for the application.

Unexpected behavior of checkbox with help text
Hi everyone.
I'm using a checkbox to achieve a yes/no user input and I've noticed something strange. Whenever the user clicks on the help text (label) associated with the checkbox, the help text pops up and the checkbox changes state.
For example, if the checkbox is unchecked, if the user clicks on the label / help text, when they close the popup, the box is checked.
It's not the end of the world or anything, but could be confusing for end users and so is undesirable. Is this a known issue? Maybe something that could be changed in a future release?
regards,
KieranChange this -
<div id="Layer1" style="position:absolute; width:296px;
to this -
<div id="Layer1" style="position:relative; width:296px;
and reposition the div.

Description label for text entries in PO smartform
Hello All,
I have to make modifications to standard smartfom for Purchase order.In the standard form's output if I enter Header texts(like Header text, Header note, Gurantees,Penalty for breach of contract) all the details entered are appearing in the smartform display.But my problem is that I also want to show which detailed text shows what.For example:I want to show 'Guarantees:' description label just before the 'Guarantees' text,
'Header text' just before the actual header text.In sum , I want to show short description corresponding to each text entry along with the text entry.
Eg. If I have entered in 'Gurantees' text the description 'The following conditions are to be met'.My output currently shows ''The following conditions are to be met' but I want it to look like this 'Guarantees : 'The following conditions are to be met'. Similarly for all other text types.
Pl advise how to do this.
Thanks!Hello,
Your going can go tough in case you use an include text.
I would suggest you to go with read_text function module
you could just complete this in minutes.
Here is the code for your refernce for read_text function Module
CALL FUNCTION 'READ_TEXT'
EXPORTING
id = 'LTXT'
language = 'EN'
name = v_tdname1
object = 'MDTXT'
TABLES
lines = it_tline1
EXCEPTIONS
id = 1
language = 2
name = 3
not_found = 4
object = 5
reference_check = 6
wrong_access_to_archive = 7
OTHERS = 8
IF sy-subrc <> 0.
MESSAGE ID SY-MSGID TYPE SY-MSGTY NUMBER SY-MSGNO
WITH SY-MSGV1 SY-MSGV2 SY-MSGV3 SY-MSGV4.
ENDIF.
clear v_text.
loop at it_tline1 INTO wa_tline1
concatenate v_text wa_tline1-tdline into v_text..
endloop.

I know how to set and display help text for a page item, and I see there is the option to add help text at the page level, but how does the user accessing the screen see the page level help text?
I was thinking it might be a good way to add user help guide information at the page level.
Thank you for any assistance.I know how to set and display help text for a page item, and I see there is the option to add help text at the page level, but how does the user accessing the screen see the page level help text?Using a Help page and region accessed via a help link (e.g. a navigation bar entry), or using the apex_application.help API method in a PL/SQL Dynamic Content region.
This is covered in the APEX documentation which should be consulted before posting a question here. -
JDeveloper 11.1.1.2.0 - Help text at field level
Hi,
We are making use of the Help.properties file to produce field level text. I have field's such as the following
<af:inputText value="#{bindings.DocumentName.inputValue}"
label="#{bindings.DocumentName.inputValue eq null ? '' : bindings.DocumentName.hints.label}"
required="#{bindings.DocumentName.hints.mandatory}"
columns="#{bindings.DocumentName.hints.displayWidth}"
maximumLength="#{bindings.DocumentName.hints.precision}"
shortDesc="#{bindings.DocumentName.hints.tooltip}"
id="it4"
autoSubmit="true"
helpTopicId="WORKFLOW_EDITPURCHASEORDER_DOCUMENTNAME"
readOnly="true"
rendered="true"Is there a elegant way to disable the help text? e.g. provide a form level radio button to enable/disable help text? The only way i can think at the moment would
be to set the helpTopidId to a key that doesnt exists using an EL expression.
RegardsHi,
I think what you suggest is the way to go in this case

How to remove labels from text fields?
Hey Everyone!
I am having troubles with forms in Dreamweaver CC.
I insert a text field in a form but the text field automatically comes with a label.
How do i stop this?And I get that!
But say I insert a text field.
It is preceded by a label saying "Text Field 1:"
But I already have written what the text field is supposed to do!
And when I go in front of the label and press backspace, it doesn't wanna get deleted; not until I have to select the text and delete it!
So you see a large part of my time is getting wasted in formatting the page and i can't give my full attention to the php code I want to write as I get frustrated because of this!
So if you could help me get rid of the labels for good ; it'll be amazing!
Thanks

Apex 4.2: Help text to show as dotted line instead of default circle
Hello
I've entered help text for most fields on a long form.
The help text icon is a grey circle with a question mark in it, which displays to the right of the page item.
Occasionally, the help text icon doesn't fit on the line, and displays slightly or entirely below the page item.
I'd like the help text to display instead on hover of the page item label, which should display a dashed or dotted underline.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

How do i change axis label object type from label to text? (to allow wrapping)
In the example of a barChart, how does one change the LABEL type from "Label" to "Text"?
I am trying to allow for long labels to wrap (ie. multi-line labels), but the default object type of labels is "Label" (which are single-line only).
I have been researching this issue all day, and have enountered a similar situation for changing the Legend component labels where a method override is implemented in a custom itemRenderer.
But I have not been able to figure out how to do this for an Axis label.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
JYes, thank you. I am aware of the AxisRenderer.... but I'm not sure how to implement it to change the label type from "Label" to "Text" to allow for wrapping.
I guess what I'm looking for is a good example.... -
Can Help Text be part of an exported PDF?
i chose Training Feedback as my template of choice and i am done, except i'd like to include the Help Text which is viewable in test mode etc, but when i export the pdf it's gone. what am i doing wrong?
I'd agree that it isn't the most user friendly, discoverable "help" but is the way Help text works for forms in Acrobat. For FormsCentral that is what we get.
If the text is important enough to ensure all users see it maybe include it inside of the label for the field. You can format all text in the label uniquely so the help stands apart, you could use a different size/font/color etc to identify the Help text.

Custom Help text for Oracle Apps
Hello All,
We are currently on 10.7SC(!) and would like to know how we can customise the online help files to include text that is specific to our setup.
Basically, we would like the 'Window Help' option for some key forms (PO entry, Invoice workbench, etc..) to contain the custom text.
Has anyone done this before? Any help/ideas greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks,
Vipul.I'd post this in weblogic.developer.interest.management or
weblogic.developer.interest.management.console newsgroup, since no security code
is envolved here.

How can I change Label's text using ActionScript?
Hi~ everyone~
I want change Label's text using ActionScript.

<s:Label x="182" y="149" text="Label" id="lbl"/>
</s:Application>
BtnScript.as
package
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
import mx.controls.Alert;
import spark.components.Button;
public class BtnScript extends Button
public function BtnScript()
super();
this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, eventHandler);
private function eventHandler(event:MouseEvent):void{
// lbl.text = "changed text";
// HOW CAN I ACCESS LABEL IN MXML FILE?
I'm about to learn flex. Please help me.
Thanks in advanced.You could achive this very easily(but this shouldn't be used in production code as it'll be difficult to manage as the project grows) by defining a static data member varibale of DataType Label something like below, (modified/added code in BOLD)
Test.mxml

<s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" minWidth="955" minHeight="600" initialize="init()"
creationComplete="creationCompleteHandler(event)">
<fx:Script>

private function init():void{
var btn:BtnScript = new BtnScript();
this.addElement(btn);
private function creationCompleteHandler(event:FlexEvent):void{
Model.someLabel = lbl;

</fx:Script>
<fx:Declarations>

</fx:Declarations>
<s:Label x="182" y="149" text="Label" id="lbl"/>
</s:Application>
BtnScript.as
package
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
import mx.controls.Alert;
import spark.components.Button;
public class BtnScript extends Button
public function BtnScript()
super();
this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, eventHandler);
private function eventHandler(event:MouseEvent):void{
// lbl.text = "changed text";
// Now use Model.someLabel which is basically 'lbl'.
Model.someLabel.text = "changed text"; //Mission Accomplished....
Model.as
package
public class Model
public static someLabel:Label;
Note: This approach is just to give you an idea but instead should use the MVC pattern. -
Hi,
I have RTF template which contains the field to display the column name. Below are my help text.
COLUMN1 is my XML tag and displaying AQUA color in my excel output.
<?COLUMN1?><xsl:attribute xdofo:ctx="block" name="background-color">Aqua</xsl:attribute>From above scenario, i need to add one more condition if there is no value in my XML tag then don't display the field in my excel output. For example. I have COLUMN1 and COLUMN2 XML Tag. Only COLUMN1 contains the value but COLUMN2 not. In my excel output the COLUMN2 value should not display.

ORA-06502 on "Help Text" region when changing pages on a tabular form
Hello everybody,
We are developing an application on Apex 4.1.0.00.32. This application have some pages with tabular forms and these pages uses a page zero as template. In this page zero, we have added two sidebar regions: a list region to navigate on the application and a help text to describe how to use our application.
The problem occurs when the tabular split the records into pages (since it has more records that it can show on a single page). When the user clicks to change to another page, Apex raises an ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error as described below:
Erro ao renderizar a região "Ajuda". ORA-06502: PL/SQL: erro: erro de conversão de caractere em número numérico ou de valor

Obs: Our database is in Brazilian Portuguese, so I guess it will be hard for some people to understand the first two lines! :)
We have tried to change the pagination style of the tabular form and change the region model of the help text but the problem still happens.
Does anyone an ideia about what this may be?
Thanks in advance!I am getting the exact same message, to the line number, also in APEX 4.1.0.0.32.

Using shortcuts in Item Help Text
Hello everyone,
I have a problem using shortcuts in Help Text sections of items. It says in the help "Item help supports shortcuts using "SHORTCUT_NAME" syntax." but it seems not. In the shortcuts sections of the shared components, it doesn't says that shortcuts can be used in Help text section.
I am using 3.1. It is a 3.1 bug? I didn't see int he corrected bug's list that is was a bug in 3.1 so.
If it is not a bug and it just doesnt work in help text sections, do you have any suggestion to supply help text from a help system somewhere else in the organisation?
Thank, BppriveThank a lot,
You can find the information by clicking on "Show edit link" on a page, then on the edit link of a textfield, scrolling to the section "Item help text" and finally on "help text", juste above the textarea.
"Identifies help text for a page item. This help can be displayed by a help system. Item help supports shortcuts using "SHORTCUT_NAME" syntax."
I was really happy to find an easy and customizable way to implement help text provided by help system. I have some more ideas, but I't was far away the greatest!
Thank, bpprive -
