Bulk Export of XMP data

I am working with 1,000,000 PDFs totaling about 1.5 Tb.  The files were created elsewhere but the XMP data is useful.  Is there anyway to extract the XMP data en masse?  All I can think of is a script to open each file and export the metadata.  Given that it can take several seconds to open a PDF, this option is not viable.
I am new to Adobe; if this information is readily available somewhere please point me to it and accept my apologies for an extraneous post.
Regards,
Barry

Even though it is technically possible to export a file's metadata, I would strongly advice against trying to do it in Acrobat on such a large amount of files. From my experience, Acrobat's batch processing capabilites (especially the later versions) are ill-suited for working with large amounts of files, or with very complex scripts. One of the reasons for that is that it loads and presents (and then closes) each file it opens, which is a huge memory hog, instead of processing them silently in the background.
I would suggest creating an external tool to do this, so you're not dependent on Acrobat. I have some ideas on how this can be achieved... If you're interested, contact me privately and we could discuss it further.

  • XMP Data available only with Photoshop CS6

    Hi,
We are using an image vault to manage our pictures and i made an InDesign JavaScript to retreive images description contained within the XMP datas.
The text entered in the image bank is good in the browser.
When i open the image in Photoshop CS6 (and older), the XMP data shown is good.
When i open the image in others application (Bridge, PSD CC or my InDesign Script), only the old data is showing (prior to the image bank text update).
To make the good XMP data available to all application, i must open the image in CS6, make a "save as" and then the good XMP is showing through all the application. With an image bank of over 30000 images, this is hardly a solution.
This is what the header looks like when exporting the XMP datas)
Header when exporting XMP from PSD CS6 before the save as (showing the old schema)
Header when exporting XMP from PSD CS6 after the save as (the old schema isn't there anymore and "TC_GENERIC" is now showing)
Any pointers to what i should do to make this right?
    Thanks

In the meanwhile I detected the problem. I made a new user account in windows and now it works correctly. So it isn't a photoshop problem but probably a register error. I have to find out furtherThanks for your reaction.

  • Export Raw Files and keep XMP data

    Hi,
I can export files from Lightroom to a folder and select original and I will get the raw file along with the xmp file. I therefore have any adjustments I made there with it. If I , however , export files to a folder and select original and chose Burn Files to Disc, the xmp files dont end up on the disc so I effectively lose all the work I have done to them in light room. Is there a way to fix this. Of course I can just export to a folder and then burn from there , but , I really like the way lightroom just burns disc after disc with no hassle. Burning discs from a folder is a hassle.
    Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help in advance !

Hi, Gary. Have you tried converting to DNG, with xmp data embedded in it, then export & burn this?

  • Can you remove XMP data from .eps files in Illustrator-CS5.5?

    Background:
I'm using font software called Typetool 3 and Illustrator CS5.5.
I am using these on Windows 7, 64 bit.
This is entry level font software released by Fontlab.
This software accepts artwork through the .eps file format in both theory and practice.
However: it refuses illustrator CS5.5 .eps files.
When I looked at this I came up with two highly interesting things: First- CS5.5 illustrator files are roughly 13 times the size of CS5 files, of this type (a simple font glyph-comparing a 29-30 kbfile to a 420-450 kb file in cs5 and cs5.5 respectively).
Thing two came from looking at what that data was (by opening it in a text editor). It appears that some of the data XMP data, illustrators data for tracking things like who created the file, copyright, and other. In document info many of these fields were blank. I'm sure this isn't the only issue because my exported xmp data is 64 kb large, but it does account for a chunk of the file.
The main question being: Can this xmp data; which for my purposes is redundant, because I have to put copyright and other data in the font, be removed or not included at the point of document creation?
The technical question being:Can the file be saved in a manner which will allow it to be exported from adobe CS5.5 and imported into Typetool 3?
    Things I've tried:
In saving .eps file: removing document headers, previews, color data, saving as different versions of the language. Basically saving it without all settings.
In saving .ai file: saving without any settings checked (without compression, pdf editting, ect.) and saving it to a different level of illustrator.
I do not know enough about postscript programming to navigate the file or remove the offending data. Nor do I have time to do this over multiple glyphs.
As a matter of opinion I do not like that my software is including potentially identifying information (which is one of the intents of XMP data, to provide identification) without notifying the creator, let alone allowing me to keep it from doing that. I would not mind or bother-except for the fact its messed up an established workflow. If someone editted this data without my knowledge, say with a virus or heaven forbid manually, it would be also be bothersome. Having a check that identifies that I am sending this data out would give me something to know if this situation was in fact happening. Additionally for a situation like mine-communication between programs in a closed environment where no other users are involved, its unnecessary and wasteful... like putting gold rims on what is intended to be an oxcart.
I'm planning on going to Fontlab for later this week, as it is as much thier issue as it is Adobe's. From what I know XMP is both a useful and popular technology- having a workaround for this situation seems like it would be a good idea. If necessary I can attach some working files for comparision.

I would save it as EPS (version Illustrator 3). This should be compatible to almost any  software that takes EPS.

  • Saving metadata from Lightroom erases custom XMP data in DNG...

    Hello,
There seems to be an issue with the way Lightroom applies changes in from the LR catalog to the assets metadata.  The setup is LR 2.5 and there is an orginal set of images that have custom XMP data applied to them via Bridge.  There is one LR catalog that points to these images and the LR catalog ratings and labels match those that are in these images.  A second LR catalog copy (not export) was made where additional changes were made only to ratings and labels.  This catalog also points to the original assets.  When using the Save Metadata to files function in LR for this catalog (and selecting ALL files), LR erases all the original custom XMP data contained in the DNG images and writes only the ratings and label information.
It doesn't seem that LR should be overwriting the entire XMP packet when only ratings and labels have changed and are saved back to the assets.  Is that the way this is designed or is this a malfunction?
Thanks for any help on this!
    David

I may have answered my own question as we have run into this issue before.  Lightroom is really not designed for any type of simultaneous workflow on the same files.  Most content management applications utilize the check-in/check-out mechanism to avoid having to perform any type of merging or implement a logical business rule to determine which content updates "win"  It is no different with Bridge and LR.  You work in one application at a time doing specific things to the same files and then read from each other when those actions are complete.  Working in this manner you never run into the merge issue or lose data from either side.
Our simple answer to this question is adjust our workflow timing for things to accommodate this behavior.  The one thing that I will say is that LR does really need to provide some type of catalog history functionality that can be queried.  I believe that LR does interact with the catalog database in this manner when you use the Save functionality from the context menu and have not imagery selected.  It scans the database looking for any changes and then only updates those files it finds changes for.  If we could only see this type of functionality added in a way that would show us history for changes to the catalog at large and not have to dig into individual assets to look for these changes that would be great.
We are going to look at a way to query the LR database itself to see if there isn't some time stamp information and file ID/filename data that can't be accessed as it would be invaluable to be able to look across large catalogs (well over 1000 images) and find the files that had been most recently updated (in updated I mean only simple updates to rating and label) and then separate these out to work with in their own group (collection).
I could also look at this as yet another opportunity to refine a workflow that doesn't create changes to identical data each time changes are incurred.  I will look at that option much more closely as it is really the only thing we can easily control.
    Cheers!
    ~David

  • AE not reading all the XMP data from DNG files

I'm working on a very large time-lapse for a construction company - I have a sunset that is broken between two folders and rendering the folders seperately makes Quicktime unhappy during playback and I get an ugly jump in sunset exposure.
So I combined the two folders in Lightroom (LR) from my RAW files (NEF) and exported the entire sequence as DNG files with simpler numbering. The sequence is about 1560 files and constitutes about 22 GB of data. I created a new LR library from the DNG sequence to make sure it all looked good and it does.
I imported the same DNG sequence into AE, checked a few frames in the preview and sent it out to render. Two thirds of the way through the QT movie, exported in H.264 at 30 fps, I start seeing problems. Huge sections look like the XMP data has not been read, then there's a good section and then bad again. I matched the movie time to preview in AE and indeed saw the same problems in the AE preview. So the problem begain in AE's reading the files from the folder, not in rendering.
I went back to LR for file comparison. There was no problem in LR. All the DNGs look great.
I'm on a MacBookPro Retina with 2.8 GHz Intel processor, 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Ram and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB graphics
I have the standard 69GB cache on an external drive and have 11GB RAM available for AE.
    Installed CPUs =8
CPUs reserved for other apps = 2
RAM allocation per background CPU = 1GB
Actual CPUs that will be used = 6
I have the latest AE from the Adobe Cloud, although I haven't done the most recent update yet.
My thought was to break the folder up into smaller segments for rendering, but that's not the problem. I see the XMP hasn't been consistantly read in preview. To me it doesn't make sense that the folder is too large for preview because it's not even rendering it there, just reading the files...?
    Any insight, solutions?
    Thanks,
    Dennis

    Hi Andy,
I dunno how best to get extracted xmp files into the raw folders, but if you are comfortable with exiftool, you can use it to extract xmp sidecars from DNG files.
If you want a turn-key solution which does not required you to futz with exiftool, then consider a free plugin I wrote:
    robcole.com - xEmP
It will allow you to create xmp sidecars with all your DNG adjustments and metadata (which can then be applied to the non-dng raw files).
However, if you won't need the DNGs in your catalog afterward, then the easiest way is to convert them back to proprietary raw format using this plugin (also free, and I wrote it):
    robcole.com - UnDNG
Conceptually, you can think of it as converting the DNGs to proprietary raw format, but note: it doesn't convert anything, it just allows existing raw files that are NOT in the catalog, to replace the DNGs that are in the catalog. All adjustments and metadata and everything else will be preserved (just like when you convert a proprietary raw to DNG format).

    Hi Jonas,
Activities can be exported but external activities are not exposed via the API right now. They will be eventually.
We have customers who are generating external activities and are able to export the activity information by using our External Activity Generator App (External Activity Generator). Essentially they store external activity data in a custom object which is then used to generate external activities in Eloqua. This way they have a table of exportable data that they can get to anytime. Some also use our Custom Object Exporters to export these external activities to a database. • AME hangs at "Reading XMP Data" and won't start encoding

    System:
    Mac OSX 10.8.5
    2 x 3.06 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
    64 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB
    Premiere 7.2.1 (4)
    AME 7.2.0.43
I've created short videos, usually 4 to 12 minutes in length.  Edited from Sony XDCAM EX video at 720p60.
I export 5 of these videos to AME using the h.264 codec to try to create mp4 files and cueue them in AME.
Once they are in the Queue of AME, I hit start.  AME shows the progress at the bottom and says it is Reading XMP data, but it
then never progresses to the encoding process.  I just keep seeing that yellow and grey barber pole progress bar moving, but nothing
    ever happens.
I've used this process for months with no problems and now it won't work.  My coworkers and I have the same setup and we are each
haveing nothing but problems ever since Premiere and AME went past 7.0.
I saw it mentioned in another question to uncheck "Enable native Premiere Pro sequence import".  I tried that yesterday and it worked.
    Today it does not.
Please help, this is getting rediculous the amount of problems we are suddenly having with Adobe products and a maxed out Mac machine.

After poking around the internets and reading this thread and others, I did the following.  I am not sure WHICH of these steps lead to it working, so I will list all.
    - Deleted all contents of "media cache" and "media cache files" directories.  I tried hitting the "clean" button (in PPro prefs), but after waiting 5 minutes and the progress bar only getting to like 10%, I just hit "cancel" and deleted the files myself, brute force.  Took all of 45 seconds.  Then, for good measure, I hit the "clean" button again, and it finished in seconds.  I did this for both PPro and AME, and both had identical media settings.
    - Restarted AME and trashed prefs (holding "shift" while booting).  Because of hitting this error before, I already had "Enable Native PPro import" checkmark ticked.  When I trashed prefs, if went back on.  For fun, I left it on.
    - Searched project drive with my media on it for all ".CFA" files on it (because my media settings generates them next to source media when possible).  I deleted.
    - Restarted computer.
    - Opened Premiere. Opened project.  Let it reconnect all media and re-generate all CFA files.  When everything was silent (took about 30 mins) I exported to Queue.  Before I had experimented with using audio render files.  I left that box off this time.
    - Used the "metadata" settings in the export queue to NOT have it transfer ANY metadata from the project to the rendered file.
    - Queue took a long time to get started, but eventually it worked.
It should be noted that I am dealing with a large project (5,000 RED clips, 10,000 audio files) where almost every clip is a merged clip.  There's maybe 10 tracks of audio in every timeline and the final thing was an assembly sequence made up of 10 nested sequences.  So... not simple.
My gut is that this is a problem with the audio.  I don't know why, but I think it is.  My next try was going to be just exporting video, no audio, and then running audio through ProTools via a OMF.

  • OAF Export button fetching data in one column - view object using union all

    Dear All,
Export button showing data in one column from  view object,
View object is based on mulitple queries with union all ,
Please let me know the solution for this issue.
    Thanks
    Maheswara Raju

    Maheswara Raju,
As per my understanding you are not able to export all the View Attribute using export Button. Only the attribute which is used with the item/region will get exported.
There are few work around in case if you want to export the column without showing on OAF Page. Let me know.
    Cheers

  • Help with exporting forms based data to Excel 2007

I have a user who is attempting to export forms based data to Microsoft Excel 2007 and when he attempts this he receives a message stating that Windows does not recognise this file type (tsv). I am not too familiar with Office 2007 so I am unable to direct this users as to how to correct this issue.
Is someone able to give me the navigation path to help me to assist this user? thanks

Did you verify the file type from Windows Explorer?
    1) Right click on My Computer > Explore
    2) Go to Tools > Folder Options
    3) Click on File Types tab
    4) Check if TSV file is defined there or not. If it is not there, click on New and add the File Extension

  • Is there any way to export IT Resource data from OIM using the export tool?

    Hello,
we are trying to migrate an OIM development environment to a preproduction environment and we need to migrate more than 400 IT Resources. We have exported some IT Resources and when we imported them in the preproduction environment their data was not migrated. Is there any way to export IT Resource data from OIM using the export tool? Or is there any other way to do this without doing it by hand?
    Thank you for your help
    Kind Regards

Well , OIM doesnot provide any such facility to export ITResource data along with ITResource .
Directly updating the DB could be an option ..
    Thanks

  • Best way to export and import data from an iPhone app?

How do people here prefer to export and import data from an iPhone app?
For example, suppose your app creates or modifies a plist. It might be nice to provide that plist to the user for separate backup and later allow them to re-import it.
How do people do that? Email the plist to an address? If so, how would one later get it back in?
Is there a common way people do this kind of thing?
    Thanks,
    doug

Or maybe the best approach for this is some sort of file synchronization feature? Is there a way of having files from the app's filesystem automatically get stored on the computer's filesystem when synchronizing and vice-versa?
