Bulk Override to enable "Generate Alert" parameter for monitors/rules

Hi Experts,
I am working on fine tuning Exchange 2010 management pack as per the monitoring requirement of the team. Most of the monitors have their workflow enabled but have the Generate Alert parameter disabled.
I was using Override Creator by Borris for enabling and disabling the workflows, but it doesnt help in creating override for Generate Alert parameter.
I almost have 700+ monitors or rule to be enabled for generating alerts is there any way i can do this using any script or any other tool?
Regards,
Prajul Nambiar

Hi
GenerateAlert is the property of override same
as enable, you can apply override using below script and enable all monitors to generate alert.
Import-module operationsmanager
New-SCOMManagementGroupConnection
$mps=Get-SCOMManagementPack |?{$_.name -match "sql"}
$overrideMp= Get-SCOMManagementPack -Displayname "sql.Override"
$Monitors=$mps|Get-SCOMMonitor |?{$_.xmltag -eq "UnitMonitor"}
foreach($Monitor in $Monitors)
if($Monitor.AlertSettings.AlertOnState -eq $null)
$Target= Get-SCOMClass -id $Monitors[0].Target.id
$overridname=$Monitor.name+".Override"
$override = New-Object Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Configuration.ManagementPackMonitorPropertyOverride($overrideMp,$overridname)
$override.Monitor = $Monitor
$Override.Property = ‘GenerateAlert’
$override.Value = ‘true’
$override.Context = $Target
$override.DisplayName = $overridname
$overrideMp.Verify()
$overrideMp.AcceptChanges()
Note : you need to have override mp with name sql.Override

  • Snort 2.9.5 may generate an error if local rules are enabled

After installing SEU 913, which includes Snort 2.9.5, the following symptoms may appear in a Sourcefire deployment:
     The sensor may go down
Unable to commit any changes to an IPS policy
Health Alerts state that the IPS/IDS DE exited unexpectedly

    Solution
In order to resolve this issue install SEU 915 or higher.
    Root Cause
An issue has been identified with custom rules or Emerging Threat rules that can violate the Snort rule syntax. These rules can cause the Detection Engine to repeatedly restart. Sourcefire provided rules do not contain these syntax errors and will not cause this problem.
Snort does rule validation upon start up.  With Snort 2.9.4, when a rule is determined invalid, then a warning is written to syslog. However, Snort will continue to load omitting that rule.  The Snort delivered in SEU 913 generates an error for invalid rules instead of a warning, which prevents Snort from loading.  With the release of SEU 915, we simply made Snort 2.9.5 behave the same way Snort 2.9.4 does, which is to display a warning for invalid rules, but continue to load.
Invalid third party rule syntax is still an issue as SEU 915 will not correct them.  To make sure rules are valid you can simply open an IPS policy in the editor and save it, or manually apply the policy.  You will be notified if there are any invalid rules active in that policy.

  • Generate Alerts for Task changes in Project Schedule

    Hi,
I would like to generate alerts to all the Project resources when a Task has been revised in Project Schedule. Does MS Project Server 2010 provides this functionality OOTB?
If this not available OOTB, I am planning to write an event handler to generate alerts for Task updates. Would an en event handler for Task level changes impact performance of server?.

    Hello,
This is out of the box with the alerts and reminders in 2010, see:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/gg982969(v=office.14).aspx to enable the alerts
    and:

  • Generating Alerts for OFM discrepancies

    Hi Gurus,
    Please validate my thinking:
To generate alerts for discrepancies in DFC01 timeseries for OFM process, my assumption is this is done by:
    1. Definining OFM Service profile and selecting "Create alerts"
    2. Running a PSM job using service DFC_ORDER_FORECAST
Currently this does not generate alerts, yet there are discrepancies for products between customer plan and suppliers plan.
Please advice if I am missing something or in case I am using wrong PSM service.
    Thanks,
    J.

    Hi
you can achieved this functionality  by using a UDF  for alert generation and also  give the details of your clarity tools in the UDF i.e. URL etc.
    Thanks

  • Enable SQL Notification Services for BAM alerts , Biztalk 2010

    Hi,
Enable SQL Notification Services for BAM alerts is greyed out.
I need to enable bam alerts in BizTalk 2010.
    Regards,
    Sharmishtha

    Hi,
If I understand correct, your problem is that the BAM Alerts configuration is greyed out in the BizTalk Configuration tool. If this is the problem it's due probably because you don't have the SQL Server 2005 Notification Services installed. Notification
Services is required for BAM Alerts feature.
You can take a look at the following link, even it's for multi-computer installation:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/1888.install-and-configure-bam-business-activity-monitoring-in-a-multi-computer-environment.aspx

  • Generate Alert for service startup and stop

    Hi Team,
Using SCOM 2012 I'm able to generate alert for service stop. Is it possible to generate alert for the same service if it started.
    Thnx

You may create an event alert rule which check the system event with event id 7036, Source ,service control manager, and description, XXX service entered the running state.
For how to create event alert rule with event description, pls. refer to
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2008/04/22/using-event-description-as-criteria-for-a-rule.aspx

  • Alert Raising for RunTime Parameters

    Hi All,
I have a requirement where in i have a class, and this class has got some servers say server a,b,c. On each of these servers i will be having some depots say p,q,r on a s,t,u on b, and x,y,z on c. There is no condition that the values on the depots should be
unique,i.e. a depot cannot repeat on the same server but it can be present on another server also.  And now these depotnames x,y,z etc are also part of another class again.
There is a powershell snapin which reads the values on each of the server i.e. x,y,z etc and runs the script and writes an entry for each of the value in event viewer. Event is written in pass and fail conditions. These events are written on the server where
    these servernames are present.
Event Description in the eventviewer will be like : The script has been executed for depot X on the server A.
Apart from the the description we are appending the depot X name to the source parameter.
Now i want a monitor\rule to raise an alert based on the event logged for each of the depot on the server.
For ex if any of X,Y,Z fails on server A then an alert has to be fired. So for firing the alert the combination is ServerName and Depot Name. Since they cannot be hardcoded i have to read the data from the respective classes.
Please let me know if there is a way to do this. The requirement is bit lengthy and confusing(may be i have made it more confusing than it is) please let me know if any info is needed .
Help in this regard is much Appreciated
    Regards, Mahadev Sundeep Maruvada

    Hi,
Based on my understanding, you want to create a event monitor for the three servers (or for the specific class), when an event get fired, then fire an alert in SCOM.
There are lots kind of type for event monitor, I would like to suggest you go through the below link for more details:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff629447.aspx
If you don't want to enable the monior for all servers in the class, we create override for the monitor, just disable this monitor for the specific server.

  • Looking for a SQL query to get all the possible Alert Messages from the Rules in a Management Pack

For reporting, I'm looking to get a SQL query of all the possible Alert Messages for Rules configured in a Management Pack (not necessarily the ones that have thrown alerts).  I can do this for Monitors, but not for Rules.
The configured alert messages for the Management Pack Monitors
go like this:  ManagementPack > MonitorView> RuleModule > RuleModule.Alert Message > Localized Text
The configured alert messages for the Management Pack Rules
should go something like this, but there is a missing link:  ManagementPack > RuleView > RuleModule > ? Missing Link ? > Localized Text
The Rules are tied to the Module, but I don't see a connection from the RulesModule to the Alert Message that I see in the LocalizedText. The Rule names do not always equal the Alert name.
Can someone provide the missing link?

    Hi,
please try below powershell code to find the corresponding management pack for specific alert:
    $Alert = get-scomalert | where {$_.Name -like 'Agent Proxy Not Enabled*'} | select -first 1
    If ($alert.IsMonitorAlert -eq "True") {
    write-host "Ths is a monitor-generated alert"
get-scommonitor -ID $Alert.MonitoringRuleID | select Enabled, DisplayName, ManagementPack
    else
    write-host "This is a rule-generated alert"
get-scomrule -ID $Alert.MonitoringRuleID | select Enabled, DisplayName, ManagementPack
In addition, please also refer to the below link:

  • Generate Document Identifiers for each document

    Hi,
I need to generate document identifiers for each document that is uploaded to the site.
Now I am getting a bit confusion i.e.
Should I create derived class that inherits from the Microsoft.Office.DocumentManagement.DocumentIdProvider abstract class and then implement all abstract members or
Should I create derived class that inherits from the abstract class named Microsoft.Office.DocumentManagement.DocumentIdProvider and then override all of the virtual members
Please share your ideas/thoughts on the same.

  • CBO generating different plans for the same data in similar Environments

    Hi All
I have been trying to compare an SQL from 2 different but similar environments build of the same hardware specs .The issue I am facing is environment A, the query executes in less than 2 minutes with plan mostly showing full table scans and hash join whereas in environment B(problematic), it times out after 2 hours with an error of unable to extend table space . The statistics are up to date in both environments for both tables and indexes . System parameters are exactly similar(default oracle for except for multiblock_read_count ).
Both Environment have same db parameter for db_file_multiblock_read_count(16), optimizer(refer below),hash_area_size (131072),pga_aggregate_target(1G),db_block_size(8192) etc . SREADTIM, MREADTIM, CPUSPEED, MBRC are all null in aux_stats in both environment because workload was never collected i believe.
Attached is details about the SQL with table stats, SQL and index stats my main concern is CBO generating different plans for the similar data and statistics and same hardware and software specs. Is there any thing else I should consider .I generally see environment B being very slow and always plans tend to nested loops and index scan whereas what we really need is a sensible FTS in many cases. One of the very surprising thing is METER_CONFIG_HEADER below which has just 80 blocks of data is being asked for index scan.
    show parameter optimizer
    optimizer_dynamic_sampling integer 2
