Burning anamorphic QT from FCP in iDVD-3

Hi There
I'm exporting a quicktime movie from an fcp project using a 24FPS timeline in anamorphic mode. I imported the Quicktime movie into iDVD 3 will start to burn but quits half way through. I've wasted about 4 DVD's so far using this setup does anyone know what could be the problem.
Thanks in advance

but I have QT 10.......I should drop to QT 7??
Like I said: you must have Quicktime 7 running. Anamorphizer will NOT work with Quicktime X.
If you don't have QT 7 running when you try to use Anamorphized, it will try to use QT X which won't work.
From another of my postings on the topic:
Get Anamorphizer at http://homepage.mac.com/sith33/FileSharing34.html
Make sure Quicktime 7 is open before you try Anamorphizer. (NOTE: You MUST use Quicktime 7 and NOT Quicktime X)
Place a copy of your movie clip in a new folder and drag that clip over the Anamorphizer icon. This should create a second file in that folder that start with Anamorphic- This is the reference movie you drag-and-drop into iDVD. Note that your clip in that folder (which is the movie the reference movie points to, must not be moved or deleted).

  • What format to export from FCP for iDVD?

I am having trouble coming from FCP to iDVD. Material was shot HDV on a Sony Z5 and I downconverted to DV to edit on FCP. I make a Quick Time Movie of the edit (as DV PAL) but the pans are all juddery. How should I export from FCP to stop the juddering on pans?

  • Best way to burn a disk from FCP?

I'm having some problems with disk readability. I sent my under-one-hour video from FCP to Compressor and then sent the MPEG-2 & AIFF files into DVDSP. From there I burned the DVD. It plays fine on my Mac and tabletop player but the disk doesn't play on another player. What's the best way to get a playable disk? Starting with FCP, should the encoding settings (if so, where exactly) match DVDSP and/or Compressor's? For better reliability should I burn the disk in Toast, and if so, how do I do this? Thanks alot. I'm not tech-savvy, so please pardon the questions. Also, should Dolby audio only be used if the video is under one hour?

Technically speaking, you don't "burn a disc from FCP." You export from FCP, then use other programs to encode, author and burn the disc.
DVD-Video playback compatibility depends on many factors, primarily the bit rate used for encoding and the quality of the media (blank disc).
While using a high bit rate does help with maintaining quality, if it's too high it can cause playback problems (skips, stutters, etc). Using poor quality media can cause the same playback problems, or can sometimes cause no playback at all. For example, never, never, NEVER use Memorex discs - they tend to always be at the bottom of the quality barrel.
I always use AC3 audio set around 192 to 224kbps ... I have seen some players choke of the high data rate demands of AIF formatted audio.

  • Burning a DVD from FCP 4 anamorphic

I'm trying to burn a DVD from my FCP 4. but even though everything is set as anamorphic, the DVD comes out all squished. I was able to burn a DVD several months ago of the same footage, for some reason i'm not able to do this. I'm really frustrated and need to be able to do this. Any suggestions? Thanks

Which program are you burning the DVD with? DVDSP? or iDVD?
I'm not on my computer where I have the link bookmarked, but there is a droplet you need to burn anamorphic material in iDVD. Unless you've done it in iMovie. Odd bug, and one they're working on if they've listened to me... which they did, I'm sure.
If it's DVDSP then you need to select the track in dvdsp and then tell it to force letterbox.
Should work fine for you. I'll hunt around and see if I cannot find that other link for you... but it's there in the iDVD forum.
    Good luck,

  • Burning a DVD from FCP Pro (relation between QT and IDVD)

When encoding and burning a DVD with IDVD from a QTime file (exported from Final Cut Pro plain QT uncompressed export), do I need to pay attention to the QuickTime Player settings? For example, the codec is automatically set on H.264, does it make any difference on the IDVD encoding process to choose another codec or to check the box : best quality? Thank you for your answer, BF from FCP Pro

DVDs use an MPEG-2 codec, so regardless of which codec FCP uses to compress the Quicktime file, it will end up as MPEG-2 when you burn to DVD. So as long as the video preview plays in iDVD, you should be fine just using the "Best Quality" setting.
If you are really concerned about the quality, you can also try exporting the video using Compressor and authoring the DVD in DVD Studio Pro. It's a bit more complicated, but the results are worth learning the software.
    Hope this helps.

  • Going from FCP to idvd

Please help me in the easiest terms possible! What is the best (easiest!) way to compress a file from FCP so that I can use idvd to burn it? It is a 3 hour wedding video.

The normal process in FCP is the same whether you're eventually going to iDVD or to Compressor then DVD-SP.
Step 1: Export a QuickTime Movie (File->Export->QuickTime Movie). Do NOT recompress all frames, but do include chapter markers (if needed). You can make the movie self-contained or not (I prefer self-contained movies but you will need more space than for a reference movie).
Step 2: Use the resulting file in Compressor. Choose an appropriate preset based on your program's run time. If no preset exists for the run time you have, duplicate a preset then adjust the bit rate to accommodate the longer run time. Make sure you use AC3 (Dolby Digital) audio - not AIFF. Once you have the settings you need, let Compressor do it's thing. You'll end up with an MPEG-2 video file (.m2v) and a Dolby Digital audio file (.ac3).
Step 3: Import the two files from Compressor into DVD-SP for authoring and burning.
Note that with a program that long, you won't have much space for menus or any other extras which is why I recommended using dual-layer media.
This tool may help in determining the bit rate you need to use: http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/bitbudget.html

  • Burning Blu-ray from FCP?  Seems I've encountered a glitch.

    Followed these instructions (Ken Stone):
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/burn_br_mac_superdrivestone.html
Only difference is instead of using SD disks as instructed in those guidelines, I'm using actual Blu-ray disks with an external Blu-ray burner. The external drive is turned on and plugged into my mac and I chose it as the burning device (meaning my mac recognizes the drive).
Well, the export process finished and it didn't prompt me to insert a blank disk for burning, but it left the Blu-ray and AC3 file in my desktop.
How can I take those files and now create a Blu-ray disk? Is that something I can do from FCP or Compressor? I'm kinda stumped.
    Any help is appreciated!

Ha... yea, it was a total blonde moment on my part (I have blonde hair and I have the moments frequently... haha). BUT! The question still stands! Because the drive wasn't plugged in it didn't burn the DVD, it just saved the video and audio file to do so. So is it possible to get them back in somehow to burn the disk w/o having to go through the LONG export process again?
Fortunately, I guess because it didn't recognize the drive, FCP actually turned it into a disk image. I found that file this morning in my 'Movies' folder. I was then able to open Disk Utilities and burn it that way. I'm the proud new father of my first Blu-ray disk! Needless to say, the results are STUNNING. I'm totally blown away.
I'm gonna mark this as 'answered' because I found the disk image... but just for the heck of it... I'd still like to know if there's a way to get the BD file and AC3 back into Final Cut, should I not be so fortunate to get a disk image again in the future.

  • From FCP to iDVD?

I haven't tried it yet, but I was wondering if its possible/easy to export a finished FCP movie into iDVD for the DVD production?
I didn't have enough hard drive space for everything from the FCP package, and so until I can get a better computer, or until I get more space, I only installed the essentials, which means I didn't install DVD Studio.

DVD Studio Pro itself isn't a large installation, it's just the supporting media for templates and such that will take up the extra space.
For iDVD, from FCP export a self-contained Quicktime movie, then import that to iDVD.
Honestly, you should take a look at using the FCP > Compressor > DVDSP workflow, since this will give you a lot more control over the encoding and mastering process.

  • Exporting quicktimes from FCP to iDVD?

I am having trouble exporting quicktimes from FCP and bringing them into iDVD.
How do you make Chapter Markers on an export from FCP?

When creating chapter markers, make sure nothing is slected within your timeline (click in a blank space before hitting m). Hit m again and click chapter marker button.
When exporting your sequence, be sure to select Markers > Chapter Markers on the export dialog popup.

  • Exporting from FCP to iDVD to properly display on 16:9 and 4:3 TV

For some reason I cannot get my DVD (made in iDVD 5) to display right on 16:9 and 4:3 TV. Here is my info:
    1. My clip is 720x480, anamorphic checked (fills up the canvas beautifully)
    2. I export to QT movie DV NTSC 48 kHz (or DV NTSC 48 kHz anamorphic, this doesn't make any difference in the final result)
    3. To display it as a widescreen in iDVD 5 I open the clip in QT Pro and change "Visual Settings" in "Movie Properties" to scaled size 853x480, than save. (That's a fix from one of the Apple articles)
    3. When I import it to iDVD it displays it as "widescreen preview" and burns it as such
    4. DVD comes out as widescreen, but when played on 4:3 TV doesn't display  letterboxed.
*5. How do I make it to play widescreen on 16:9 and letterboxed on 4:3?*
        - I tried to use the Anamorphicizer with many different clip-exporting options, but it never worked.
        - I also tried to use a couple of programs to change the iDVD's .ISO file, but I am not a programmer and couldn't get those programs do work for me.
        - I ordered iLife '08. Is there a fix in the new iDVD version?
        - I could use the Studio Pro, but I don't have a time to fix all those buttons, connect them to chapters, etc...  Seems like the developers should have done it for us to work as simple as iDVD.
I would appreciate any reasonable solution.

I am a five year final cut/idvd user and I am completely bewildered why my exported quicktime 720/480 movie with chapters and not widescreen defaults to widescreen in IDVD. I have tried everything, 5 days of tech help, and even brought it to the store where they couldn't figure it out..I don't know how to use studio pro but toast burns it fine 4:3 and doesn't stretch it like widescreen. Is this a bug or problen in ilife08?? I am so sad if I cant use IDVD...it has beem such a great program///how difficult is studio pro? AMy suggestions? I am working on a mACBOOK PRO...AND NEWEST FINAL CUT

  • No audio when burning a DVD from iMovie to iDVD

Hope someone can help me here, I'm not getting any audio on the DVD I've burnt even though it's working fine in the preview screen on my desktop. Even the audio from the theme I've chosen isn't coming through.
I'm using iMovie HD 5.0.2 and iDVD 5.0.1

even though it's working fine in the preview screen on my desktop.
You can't really depend on the preview function to pick up problems with a burn. That is the reason that saving to disc image is recommended. If that works, then the burned DVD will be ok.

If you don't have a SuperDrive you will not be able to burn DVDs.
Did iDVD come preinstalled on your Mac?  If it did then you should have a SuperDrive and be able to burn DVDS. Check the Disk Burning section of System Information

    Hello,
I'm trying to burn a slideshow I created in imovie to DVD but it doesn't seem to work. Everytime I click on the burn icon in idvd it tells me to insert a blank DVD. Once i insert a blank dvd it spits it right out.

When you upload the site is has nothing to do with iWeb and people who work for the hosting companies and say that iWeb is the problem or is rubbish do not have a clue what they are talking about.  They use it as an excuse because they don't understand what they are doing.
What folder do you have to upload your site to on the server?  Is it called "public_html", or "htdocs" or something like this?  If so, then in the directory/path, where some can leave it blank, you can enter public_html or htdocs or whatever file you upload to on your server.  This should then work.
Your other option of course, is not to use the iWeb built in ftp, but to select publish to a local folder and then download Cyberduck - a dedicated ftp programme and use this to upload your site.  If you use Cyberduck, then you can connect directly with your server and you can see exactly where all your site files are being uploaded to and exactly what folder on your server you have to upload to.  If you use iWeb ftp, then you are working blind really and just hoping for the best.
Either try inserting the name of your folder in the directory/path section or publishing to a local folder and using Cyberduck to upload instead.

  • Everything about the movie formats change going from FCP into iDVD.

I made a few movies and I simply want them on a DVD. I convert them into QT movies and everything looks great. When I move the files into iDVD, it squishes the actual movie into 4:3 even though the original QT movie is 16:9 and iDVD is set up for 16:9 and the quality is horrible. I check the "Project Info" and my 3.1GB file has shrunk down to a 376MB file. This has happened with the last two movies I made. I'm really getting frustrated. Help!!

  • Export Settings from FCP to iDVD

Can I export a timeline that is NTSC-DV using QT to 8-bit uncompressed? will it improve the quality of the titles?
They look awful when I export them in "current settings"

I know. It's just that I'd have to render 46 minutes of video to go along with it, which is a HUGE file and amount of time.
I never had such Title issues. Does it have to do with the new quicktime?
