  • 11i and Dataguard

    We have a customer who has a reporting database that currently is a clone of the production database, something that is done on a nightly basis.
    They are looking at whether they could use Dataguard to create a reporting database which is more upto date.
    Does any one have any experience of doing this? Does it work with 11i? What issues might they encounter?
    Any help would be appreciated as we have been told by someone that it doesn't work although we do not know what they base their comments on.
    Thanks,
    Jeremy.

    Jeremy,
    So which datatypes are not supported by logical standby database?Logical standby databases do not support the following data types:
    BFILE
    Collections (including VARRAYS and nested tables)
    Encrypted columns
    Multimedia data types (including Spatial, Image, and Context)
    ROWID, UROWID
    User-defined types
    XMLType
    Data Type and DDL Support on a Logical Standby Database
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/data_support.htm
    It may be that those datatypes are no involved with the areas that we are reporting so this might not be an issue. Any one able to identify the datatypes?Why would you go with unsupported solution? What would stop you from using physical standby database?

  • E-Business Suite 11i and Forms 9i

    Having just read that Oracle Forms 6i will no longer be fully supported after 31st December 2004, less than 2 years away; I am wondering if Oracle Apps 11i (core Apps) is going to be released using Forms9i technology. Or is Forms9i being reserved for Apps R12?
    From my understanding, Oracle support for Apps 11i is going to go well beyond 31/12/2004; this either means Forms6i will be supported for customers using the E-Business Suite or Oracle will indeed release a version of 11i on Forms9i.
    Comments?

  • Business Continuity of Databases....

    I would welcome some Oracle DBA assistance to scope a piece of audit work for tender around business continuity of an oracle database/environment (managed and supported by a 3rd party provider). We have had several “security” audits/assessments of this oracle database, and its environment, i.e. the infrastructure on which the database is installed/operated, and the front end web application. But I just think that’s only half the coverage requiredwhen it comes down to risk, there’s still operational issues namely we call this “business continuity” practices and controls.
    Can anyone help provide a scope of the things to include in a business continuity type audit of an Oracle Database/DBA provider? Even if its just top level bullet points that I can research further it will help. If you have ever done one before - do you have a scope of the work, if you have ever had such an assessment/audit done of your own busienss continuity practices for oracle environments you manage and support, what was included in the review?

    It doesn't make a lot of sense to talk about business continuity at a database level - it needs to be addressed at a service level. Database failure is only one of many things that could affect the availability of the service.
    But in general you need to think about the following
    - What constitutes loss of service? I.e what is the trigger point for invoking your business continuity plans? You may have several levels of this, Full outage, loss of functionality, loss of access based on geographic area/user group/access channel, each with different plans
    - Who makes the decision to invoke the plan/bits of the plan i.e escalation routes?
    - Coming up with a plan for the various scenarios, Not just technical (That is often the easy bit) - things like
    - Communication - how do you let the team invoking the plan, and the users know? Bear in mind the problem may be with networks etc. Does everyone have access to the plan, even if computer systems are down?
    - Training
    - Physical considerations. Do you need a new server room? Somewhere to work?
    - Financial. What will the financial impact be? Can you get funds to pay for staff, kit, accomodation etc if necessary?
    - Testing. The plans need to be tested. Can be a hard sell to management to really take your systems out, but it's often the only way. And this time you know you can easily turn things back on!
    - Afterwards. Do you need to do any processing after the event? For example for one of my systems in the case of losing an area node, the plan is to revert to paper recording, and contact other offices for any urgent lookups etc. This requires backfilling the data onto the system once it is back available. You need to plan the amount of resource necessary for this.
    You can come up with hundreds of different scenarios if you get carried away. You will never be able to plan for them all, so pick the most likely. It should be a continuously evolving process anyway. For example we had to add policies around bird flu (Both for a genuine pandemic, and more likely scenario that offices are shut down) a year or 2 ago.

  • ADF and E-Business Suite 11i

    Hi,
    I am looking for some information about using Oracle ADF with E-Business Suite 11i, JDeveloper version is 9i.  Most of the documentation I've seen has been specific for R12.
    Hoping someone can provide some information/links to documentation about the following:
    -Requirements for setting up the environment (hardware, servers, versions) for Oracle ADF for E-Business Suite 11i.
    -Can you call an ADF form from E-Business Suite 11i OAF form or menu?
    -Any tutorials, demos related to ADF/E-Business Suite 11i/JDeveloper9i
    Thanks in advance!

    You can find the specific hardware specs for your development environment in the JDeveloper install guide.
    Documentation
    I would recommend you'll go with the latest 11.1.2.4 version for custom application development.
    As for server requirements, this is something that will depend on the load your application expects to get and on its specific functionality. It can best be answered by doing some performance tests of your specific app.

  • Problems with data migration from E-Business Suite 11i to OID.

    Hi everyone i'm trying to migrate data between Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and Oracle Internet Directory.
    I'm following the guidelines from the document: Integrating Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i with Oracle Internet Directory and Oracle Single Sign On.
    I have created a intermediate LDIF file that will converted to final LDIF file by ldifmigrator utility. But an error occurs when I try to disable a certain profile in the phase of converting the Intermediate LDIF file to final LDIF file. I am running the oidprovtool as cn=orcladmin and the syntax is as follows:
    oidprovtool operation=disable \
    ldap_host=portal10g.skyrr.is \
    ldap_port=3060 \
    ldap_user_dn=cn=oracleadm \
    ldap_user_password=mypasswd \
    application_dn="orclApplicatonCommonName=K95LSP,cn=EBusiness,cn=Products,cn=OracleContext,dc=skyrr,dc=is" \
    profile_mode=BOTH
    The command returns:
    ERROR: Invalid directory credentials. Please check ldap_user_dn and ldap_user_password parameters.
    I'm able to bind whith ldapbind and the syntax is as follows:
    ldapbind -h portal10g.skyrr.is \
    -p 3060
    -D cn=orcladmin
    -w ******
    Can anyone help my to resolve the "Invalid directory credentials" error so that I can continue my Applications 11i migration.
    I must admit that i'm new to Oracle Internet Directory and all advices and pointers are highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Sammi

    Hello,
    As Scott says, the fact that you're using HTTPS rather than HTTP is pretty much transparent to the mod_plsql handler (well in the respect that you don't really need to do anything 'special' in your application I mean).

  • Integrate an Apex Application with the E-Business Suite 11i

    Hi !
    I'm currently working to get connected to APEX (Application Express 3.2.1.00.11) using an E-Business Suite 11i form function then using the ICX cookie.
    I'm using a document created by Rod West(consultant at Cabot Consulting) to help me doing this connection.
    The document is : http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/pdf/apex_ebs_wp_cabot_consulting.pdf
    I always have errors when I try to get connected using the method suggested in the document.
    The error I have received is :
    ORA-00942: table or view does not exist ORA-00942: table or view does not exist ORA-06512: at "APPS.ICX_SEC", line 2388 ORA-06510: PL/SQL: unhandled user-defined exception
    This error seems to come from wfa_sec.getsession(:P101_USERNAME) used in the Before Header process of the login page(Page101).
    See code here (Figure 10 in the document) :
    BEGIN
    wfa_sec.getsession(:P101_USERNAME);
    :P101_PASSWORD :=
    XXAPX_SECURITY_PKG.generate_hash
    (FND_GLOBAL.user_name);
    IF :P101_PASSWORD IS NOT NULL THEN
    APEX_CUSTOM_AUTH.login(
    P_UNAME => :P101_USERNAME,
    P_PASSWORD => :P101_PASSWORD,
    P_SESSION_ID => v('APP_SESSION'),
    P_APP_PAGE => :APP_ID||':1'
    END IF;
    EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN NULL;
    END;
    I have done a "GRANT EXECUTE ON apps.WFA_SEC" to my APEX Schema, so the APEX Schema should have access to everything used by the package... I have tried to "GRANT EXECUTE ON" ICX_SESSIONS but I still have the same error...
    Do I need to do other "GRANT" ? Have you experienced the same problem ?
    Thanks for your help !

    Hi !
    Yes, I have already created synonyms but I still got the same errors...the error seems to be related to a table used in the package icx_sec...I have tried to grant and create synonym for tables icx_transactions and icx_sessions but I still got the error. Any ideas ?
    I have also tried to use the method (OWA_COOKIE.send) suggested in the 2007 version of the Rod West's document (the method you mentionned in the thread) and I'm able to get connected to my APEX application using the E-Business Menu but I have an intermittent problem with this method.. In fact, some days I'm able to get connected to APEX at the first try but some days I received "Invalid Login Credentials" at the first try and at the second try I get connected...And we haven't found any reasons yet for the intermittent "Invalid Login Credentials" ?
    Have you experienced the same intermittent problem on your side ?
    Thanks !

    Does anyone also encountered this problem?
    Thanks,

  • E-Business Suite 11i apps on RedHat Linux 4 or 5

    Hi,
    Our E-business suite 11i has been running on the application tiers RHEL 4, due to the requirement to support large memory configurations on a 32-bit system.  Is it true that from RHEL 5, the “hugemem” kernel which achieves this 32-bit memory scalability has been deprecated in favour of the use of 64-bit kernels?

  • BI Publisher with Oracle e-Business Suite 11i in EBS security mode

    Seems I submitted below in wrong forums earlier so posing to correct one now. Appreciate any help.
    Hi All,
    I want to configure BI Publisher that comes as a part of OBIEE in Oracle E-Business Suite security mode. My Oracle E-Business Suite 11i runs on 3 node RAC database and 3 node apps tier/cm tier. As per configuration guide, I changed security mode in BIP to 'Oracle E-Business' and uploaded DBC file from E-business suite Web&Forms tier. In DBC file TWO_TASK parameter has value of test_806_BALANCE which is just an alias in tnsnames.ora for load balancing. Now when I go to BI publisher and click on 'Roles and Permission' tab in security center, it gives me 500 Internal server error.
    But if I change this TWO_TASK value to any particular RAC instance sid, I am able to see all responsibility in Roles and Permission tab. This seems that BI Publisher makes jdbc connection url to database on the fly by reading DB_HOST, dB_Port and TWO_TASK parametes from dbc file and due to this my BI Publisher is single point of failure if the RAC instance goes down which I mentioned in DBC file. Even though E-Business Suite is in HA, BI publisher is not taking advantage of this HA db.
    Any one has idea how to over come this situation.

    You can try for a luck by posting the thread in BI Publisher Section of this Forum..

  • Installation of SAP Business One client and required administration rights

    Dear community,
    I would like to kindly ask you for your feedback on the installation of SAP Business One client and its patches on end-user computers.
    The pain points I have heard so far are the following:
    - The installation of SAP Business One client and its patches has to be started by a user with administrator rights.  As far as I know (and please correct me if I am wrong), this is also required in case of installation of any other software.
    - End users usually do not have administrator rights and therefore the SAP Business One clients have to be manually upgraded by administrator.  This is time consuming (and therefore costly) activity.
    We are considering to design a new solution which would overcome the above limitations.
    I would like to confirm with you if my understanding is correct:
    Question 1:
    Is it a common situation that the end-users of SAP Business One client do not have administrator rights and therefore cannot install the patches of SAP Business One client by themselves?
    If yes, how do you resolve this currently?
    Question 2:
    Do you use Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager or Active Directory (or any other 3rd party solution) to automatically distribute software packages and updates to client PCs at your customers?
    Question 3:
    If the SAP Business One client installation (and its patches) is delivered as MSI package with silent installation capability, would you be able to automate the deployment of B1 client updates to client PC using the abovementioned technologies? Or can you still see some obstacles?
    Thank you
    Best regards
    Jan Ruzarovsky
    SAP Business One Product Management

    Dear all,
    Thank you very much for your comments, very helpful!
    @Marco - SAP Business One 8.8 client currently does not support the silent installation / upgrade. However we are currently considering this requirement and we would like to deliver it as soon as possible.
    We are currently considering several possible designs. One of them is as follows:
    1. A new SAP Business One Updater Service will be installed on each client workstation.
    It will be a windows service installed and running under a local system account.
    2. The updater service will check regularly if there are any new patches of SAP Business One client or add-ons uploaded to a configured shared directory.
    3. If a new patch is found in the shared directory, the updater service will SILENTLY install the new patch (add-ons, SAP Business One) on the client workstation.
    The service would be able to install patches even if nobody is logged in.
    Questions:
    If we consider the above design, there are a few open topics:
    1. During the upgrade of the SAP Business One server, the client patches (and SAP add-on patches, partner add-ons) would be placed to a SHARED directory instead of into SBO-Common (as it is implemented currently).
    - Does this have any impact on your tools, processes or add-ons?
    2. SAP Business One upgrade wizard will put the latest patch of SAP Business One client into a configured shared directory. The shared directory will have to be read-only for everybody in the network to avoid that the valid installation files are replaced by malware or virus infected files
    - Can you configure such a shared directory?
    From customer perspective, if a new patch is put into the shared directory, the updater service can behave as follows:
    1. Manually initiated upgrade of the client
    Example: Customer starts the old (not upgraded) SAP Business One client. The client will inform him/her that a new patch has been found and it has to be installed in order to continue working with the client. After customer clicks "Yes", the upgrader service starts the silent installation of the client and informs customer about the progress. Once the upgrade is finished, the upgraded SAP Business One client will be started automatically.
    2. Automatic update:
       - Update the client automatically (e.g. overnight) if customer is not working with SAP Business One
       - If SAP Business One client is running, ask customer if he/she wishes to upgrade the client now or to delay the upgrade by X minutes.
    Question: Which of the above two scenarios would you and your customers prefer?
    If the upgrade is fully silent, automated and handled by the upgrader service, Is it acceptable for customers to trigger the installation manually and wait till the client is upgraded? Or would they prefer to have the client updated for them e.g. overnight so they can immediately start to work?
    Best regards
