Business System and Client

Hi
I checked many treads and still I couldn't get a satisfactory explanation to the difference between Business System and Client. I read in help.sap site that multiple business systems can be assigned to a single technical system and also each numbered client of an SAP system is a Unique Business System ? So are client and business system one ? If so why use it interchangably ? And if many business systems can be assigned to the technical system how do we specify a related Integration Server ? As I understand only one Business System can be assigned Integration server. So if we assign many business systems to one technical system then how can we have related Integration server for all ? I couldn't get a satisfactory explanation to this doubt in any thread in this forum

>>each numbered client of an SAP system is a Unique Business System ?
It could be. But it is not necessary that each client of SAP system is communicating with PI. If it is then there will be one Business System for each client.
>> So are client and business system one ?
No. Client is more substantial category in SAP system. Business system just defines the logical name to these clients if they communicate with PI.
>> If so why use it interchangably ?
Actually they can't be used interchangably always. The only relation is that for each client of SAP system, there could be only one Business system.
>>And if many business systems can be assigned to the technical system how do we specify a related Integration Server ?
For related Integration Server name, you need to select the PI Business system name which would communicate with your business system. For a single SLD scenario you will see PI Dev, Q and Prod business systems.
>> As I understand only one Business System can be assigned Integration server.
Correct. Its a PI Business system.
>> So if we assign many business systems to one technical system then how can we have related Integration server for all ?
For all Business systems of 1 technical system, you need to select the same PI Business system name.

what is the difference between Business system and Logical system...

    Hi
Business system is a logical layer needed for configuration in integration directory. On the other site technical system is physical representation of your technical landscape. In case of SAP technical systems you can have more than one business system relation. In that situation there is relation one client to one business system.
If your technical system changes, then you definitely need to point this new technical system to the existing Business system which has been used to do all the Configurations in the Integration Builder.

  • Use of Business Systems and Technical Systems

    Hi
What is the use of having business systems and technical systems in SAP XI. I don't see any configuration details needed to create these. I understand that it logically divides the interfaces into different business systems but is that the only use? The only place I see the real configuration done is in the adapter configuration.
    Vijay

    Vijay,
The technical system actually works better for our non-SAP systems than the SAP systems. Here is our scenario:
We have an AS400 business system that uses a file adapter to send files to XI and then uploaded to SAP ECC. The file adapter does not ask for the system information so we can switch between dev and test by changing the DNS address in the technical system entry (dynamic reference like a property file lookup). The communication channel settings do not have to change.
The receiver is SAP using an RFC adapter which requires the system ID, and client (hard coded).  Everytime we change clients, we have to change the settings in the RFC adapter. This is more to your point of why do we have a technical system if we have to provide the settings in the adapter as well. The RFC adapter should read the application server and client values from it's parent business system so the changes don't have to be made everytime we point to a new client( such as QA). This is irritating.
So maybe the theory is good but the implementation could be better in this case.
    Thanks,
    Troy

  • Regarding Business System and Business Service

    Hello,
What is the difference between the Business system and Business service. When do we go for what? Which system we will take as business system or business service means either sender system or reciever system.
Give me with simple example... please
    Thank you

    hi,
What is the difference between the Business system and Business service.?
Business System is a logical representation of a Technical System.
Business System: BS is a conceptual representation of a logical system, such as a specific client on a SAP server or a 3rd party payroll application.
For defining Business Systems, the four important pieces of data are:
u2022Business System Name (must be unique in the landscape)
u2022Associated Technical system name, and if the Business System will be used with IDoc interfaces, a Logical System Name
u2022The Software Products (and associated SWCVu2019s) that are used by the Business System. The products are brought through from the Technical System definition; but for a particular Technical System, not all products will necessarily be associated with a particular Business System.
    u2022The Related Integration Server.
A Business System addresses a business system as a sender or receiver of messages. Unlike an abstract service, a business system represents a specific (application) system in the system landscape. A business system (service) comprises information about the inbound and outbound interfaces and the software component versions of the business system.
Business Service is a abstract representation of a System. For instance, www.google.com have a several system working together and IPs of this machines change eventually. When we use a Business Services like google we reference a computer that we don't know the phisical implementation
Business Service: Address an abstract business entity as the sender or receiver of messages.Using a business service, you can define the technical or business subunits of the companiesinvolved and then assign them the relevant interfaces. The business services are used whenconfiguring cross-company processes.
Which system we will take as business system or business service means either sender system or reciever system
Business system and business service can either be a sender or receiver...
business systesm is an application system which is a real system..business service is an abstract entity...we send requests using webservices for them....
    thanks,

  • Business Systems and Business Service - does any difference

    Hi Experts,
Could any one please guide me what is the difference between
    Business Systems
    and
    Business Service.
Which situations we use Business Systems / Business Service.
Does it have any performance issues?
Why we are not configuring Business service in SLD?
    Cheers Experts!!
    Sunil

    Hi Sunil,
Business System: Address a particular business system as the sender or receiver of messages.
A business system is an actual application system in a system landscape. A business system
(service) comprises information about the inbound and outbound interfaces and the software
component versions of the business system. The business system services are used when
    configuring internal company processes.
Business Systems are Logical Senders or Receivers that exchange messages by using the Integration
Server and that are entered in the System Landscape Directory.
The Business Systems in the System Landscape Directory relate to a system landscape.
The Business Systems of business partners are therefore not entered in the System Landscape
Directory. To be able to address such business partners logically, use communication components in
the Integration Directory. A business system is a way of specifying a communication component in the
Integration Directory more precisely (business system component).
Business Service: Address an abstract business entity as the sender or receiver of messages.
Using a business service, you can define the technical or business subunits of the companies
involved and then assign them the relevant interfaces. The business services are used when
    configuring cross-company processes.
In the PCK, the Service is of type Business Service. It represents an abstract, addressable unit.
Business services are used in cross-company processes, for example, if the parties involved have only
published their interfaces and not their system landscape, or it is only partly known.
Using a Business Service,we can define the technical or business subunits of the companies involved
and then assign them the relevant interfaces.
It is useful to use Business Services when configuring cross-company processes. Usually, the
interface descriptions of the business partners involved are made publicly available.
Also,There is already lot of thread regarding the same discussion, please see it below.

  • Parties, Business Systems and Business Services

    Hi guys,
I've read a lot about items in subject, but have some doubts about applying them to my scenario. I have to integrate SAP system and web service.
As far as I understand concepts, this is B2B communication, so I have to use parties. To represent SAP system I use Business System, as it's described ins SLD,  and for Web service I use Business Service... just as we use business services for web services
--- Am I right here? Will it work ok in reciever determination, agreement?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
You are doing the usage of business systems and services in proper way.
The scenario will difinately work with combination of business system and service.
It will be fine for all other configurations such as Receiver Determination, Sender/receiver agreements and interface determination etc.
Please see below the importance of Parties, Business Systems and Business Services
    A communication party
A communication party (party for short) represents a larger unit, which is involved in a collaborative process. Using a communication party, you generally address a company within a cross-company process.
You can assign a communication party one or more services to address it as the sender or receiver of messages.
    A business system
If you want to address a particular business system as the sender or receiver of messages, choose this service type.
A business system is an actual application system in a system landscape. A business system (service) comprises information about the inbound and outbound interfaces and the software component versions of the business system.
You usually use business system services when configuring internal company processes.
    A business service
If you want to address an abstract business entity as the sender or receiver of messages, choose this service type.
Using a business service, you can define the technical or business subunits of the companies involved and then assign them the relevant interfaces.
You usually use business services when configuring cross-company processes. In this case, you only make your interfaces known to the business partners involved and either do not make any details about your own system landscape available, or only specific details.
For example, you can define RosettaNet Partner Interface Processes (PIPs) as business services.

  • Ags_work_incident_create_app - Unable to maintain system and client

    Hi,
When creating a support message from the Incident work center, the fields system and client are greyed out and thus not maintainable.
I have no problems creating support messages using the SAPWEBGUI or through transaction NOTIFCREATE, it is only when using the work center. I do not have any other issues in the workcenter, I can display and change support messages.
I have check the security settings and run a security trace which did not come up with anything.
Any advice as to why these fields are greyed out would be greatly appreciated.

  • Service Desk: System and client missing when creating a message.

    Hi Experts,
I would like to find out if anyone has encountered this problem before. The system and client fields were blanked out and I am unable to select/create the system when creating a message. Thanks!

    Hello Wein,
If the system/client are grayed out in the workcenters, it is because when creating your BP you've probably created it only for a single system/client. Try to update your BP with another system (tx. BP_GEN).
    Hope this will help.

  • Adding system and client specific TMS approval steps

    Hello,
In defining QA approval steps, how to define a step which is not system and client wide?
When adding a new step, it is automaticaly defined with * in the client and system fields, and when changing the steps, these fields are not editable. However, there are several approval steps for which a specific system and client are entered, but this was done by a consultant, who was here some years ago.
Does anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks in advance,
    A

    Hi Aleksandra,
Did you ever find a solution to this issue.  I too have multiple QA systems in our landscape (4 system landscape), and yet I can not defined system/client specific approval procedures in STMS.
The system and client options don't even appear when I go into change mode, yet table TMSQASTEPS has the options available.  Direct table update works fine, but it would be nice to know the "SAP standard" way of doing this.
    Cheers

  • Difference between Business System and Business Service in ID

There are some tiny little doubts for a newbie which usually appear and we don't really have the answer.
We know that sometimes we two ways to implement a process, and it works for the two ways, but we not always understand why.
This was one of my doubts, what was the great difference between a Business System and a Business Service...?
Of course I had a tiny little idea but now I have the answer and maybe it will be useful to anyone who questioned about it...
A Business System is defined in the SLD and is used as sender and receiver in the ID. However in some cases, the details of the implementing application are not available(in a B2B communication, where the system belongs to a different company. A Business Service represents an abstract entity for adressing the senders and receivers of messages. Therefore, when using Business Servces, it is no longer necessary to define any Business Systems in the SLD.

    Hi Goncalo,
one important difference is that a business service has no SLD entries and so also no assigned products/SWCVs. So the configuration in IB Directory can become uncomfortable if there a lot interfaces.
    Regards,
    Udo

  • Difference between Business system and Business service.

    Hi All,
Can any one explain in detail difference between Business system and Business service.
As we commonly say, Business service is for those system which are not in our landscape.
Can any one explain in which particular scenarios we will go for Business Service.
    Reg
    Bapuraj

    Hi Bapuraj,
    Business System
Business system is a logical system, and there is an importance on physical existence of the system. Also SLD entry is required.
It is generally used for SAP applications, this is just a general prinicple followed but not mandatory.
    Business Component(formerly Service)
You use a Business Component, when you do not have the System details of the the partner system to which you want to communicate. i.e. you have not configured the partner system in SLD.
Business Service is an Absract Unit with Sender and Receiver Interfaces,In this case you need to explicitly add the message interfaces while doing configuration in ID.
It is generally used for NON-SAP applications, this is just a general prinicple followed but not mandatory.

  • Rename of Business systems and channels in PRD system

    Hi all,
I am doing a rework of some scenarios in PI. I will rename business systems and channels.
When we move the new objects to Prduction and activate what is the best order to stop processing in PI before the switch over.
    Is it
    1)Stop PI inbound queues.(Deregister queues)
2)Check all outbound queues are empty.
    3)Stop outbound queus (Deregister queues)
    4)Stop all channels
    5)Import all new objects
6)Delete old configuration and business systems and channels.
    7)Activate all new configuration.
    8)Activate all channels.
    9)Register all queues.
10)Check all sender systems for failed (eg Outbound IDoc) and resend.
    Have i missed anything?
What is the best way to handle sender for the following adapter types(HTTP , Proxy, RFC, SOAP)
    Thank you for your input.

    Hi
    Business System
    1) Business system is a logical system, and there is an importance on physical existence of the system.
    2) Also SLD entry is required.
3)It is generally used for SAP applications, this is just a general prinicple followed but not mandatory.
4)This is defined as part of the SLD and is a physical system whose parameters are well defined.
5(Business systems refers to the physical systems, for instance the R/3 system. You define the business systems in the SLD
    Business Service
    1) You use a Business Service, when you do not have the System details of the the partner system to which you want to communicate. i.e. you have not configured the partner system in SLD.
    2) Business Service is an Absract Unit with Sender and Receiver Interfaces,In this case you need to explicitly add the message interfaces while doing configuration in ID.
    3) It is generally used for NON-SAP applications, this is just a general prinicple followed but not mandatory.
    4) This is not defined as part of SLD and whose technical parameters are not completely known.
5)Business service is used when the message is not addressed to a business system. It is used mostly in B2B scenarios.
