Button that will pause project AND open URL

how can I create a button, that upon clicking will pause the
movie, and open a URL in another window. I've got javascript that
opens another window, but the movie doesn't pause. I uncheck the
'pause movie' box because I want the user to have the option of
clicking on the button or not. The 'Continue playing project'
option in the pull down that appear after selecting Execute
Javascript, doesn't work. I've tried unchecking it.

Hi there oddrhythm
You have posted this identical question three different times
now. I realize you haven't yet received an answer, but if we have
multiple posts asking the same question, it makes searching the
forums later more difficult for others that have the same question.
Anyone choosing to reply should direct the reply to the

I have a thought on how you might achieve what you are
looking for. So I'll reply to that thread.

  • Can I use a submit button that will automatically flatten and open up the save as screen?

    Hello,
    I'm working with forms in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and I want the submit button to flatten the document then open the save as screen.  I know I can print to pdf and this automatically will open that screen, but these forms are going to be used with tablets that may or may not have the "print to adobe" as an option.  Is there another way to flatten?  I know the PDF Optimizer will do that too, but it isn't an executable option in the button properties.  Magic anyone?  Thanks.

    It depends very much on the platform and the applications used by the users of this form. If they are using non-Adobe software, all bets are off.
    Also, some tablets (iPad) don't support JS, so even if they do use Adobe's Reader for the iOS, there's not much that can be done in the way of scripting.
    Generally speaking: In Acrobat you can flatten the form, but in Reader that's not possible. What you can do, though, is create a function that makes the form fields read-only, thus preventing the user from editing them after having submitted the file.

  • Button to pause parent swf AND open URL?

    i'm using Captivate for some online training. I want to be
    able to show the learner a button that will say 'click here for
    more info' but not have the swf pause. If there user doesn't click
    it, the swf keeps playing, if they do click it, I want the swf to
    pause and a new window to open with a different URL...
    I'm pretty sure Captivate can't do it, so I'm trying
    actionscript, but it's been years since I messed with it.
    thanks for your help.

    Hello again
    Your situation is a bit unique in that you want the pause
    only to occur AFTER the button has been clicked.
    Many (dare I say most) Captivate presentations will have a
    Button that simply pauses the slide and waits for the user to click
    it. Normally, when the Button has been clicked, it carries out its
    action. If that action is to open a URL or a file, you are able to
    choose to open it up in a new window. This allows the Captivate
    movie to remain open while your user views the content in the new
    window.
    The option "Continue playing project" will cause the pause to
    be released when the user clicks the Button. Often, this isn't
    desired. It would seem to me that the logical choice for a default
    setting should actually be with this option disabled. After all,
    the only way to get at it is to first choose to open in a new
    window. And if you are doing that, you seldom want your Captivate
    to continue playing. But I digress...
    Anyway, that option is often what we steer folks to. The
    Button has paused the slide, when it has been clicked by the user,
    the new window opens and the user views or interacts with the
    content in the new window. If the project merrily continues along
    playing, they may close the new window (or tab) and return to a
    Captivate that has ended. And they have thus missed perhaps half or
    more of the movie you intended for them to see.
    Does that make better sense?

    I am new at Captivate 8 and I have created a learning project using an existing power point presentation.  I have added a button that will allow my students to view a video on the subject.  When I run the project in Preview the button works but when I publish it, it stops working.

    I added an Interactions button and in the Actions on Success I open an URL or file. I have placed the video on our web server.   In the URL I point to our web server "http://www.wmabhs.org/Media/Add Client 3rd Party Coverage.mp4".  If I run this from any browser it works.  So what do you think I have done wrong?

    Hello Graphicsguy123,
    You would need to first create the form ( or Widget in EchoSign) first to generate a url which you can paste it in the email being sent to customers. You would need to make sure you have a Document Cloud Enterprise Premium account in order to create a Widget. If you don't have the account, you can use the trial version to test it. • Can I add a button next to the location bar (just like the Home-button) that will open a new tab?

    In Firefox 3 there was a button that would open a new tab. This button was next to my location bar (next to the home, refresh, etc buttons), and also usable when I didn't have any tabs open (unlike the + on the tabbar, which is only there when I turn on my tabbar).
    Although there is a button I can add that will open a new window, I would like to know if it is possible to have similar button that will open a new tab.

    There's a New Tab button in the Customize Palette, just move it to where you want it.

    I would appreciate it if someone could advise me as to the optimum resolution, dimensions and dpi for actual photographic slides that I am scanning for use in a Keynote Presentation, that will be projected in a large auditorium. I realize that most projectors in auditoriums that I will be using have 1024 x 1200 pixels, and possibly 1600 x 1200. There is no reference to this issue in the Keynote Tutorial supplied by Apple, and I have never found a definitive answer to this issue online (although there may be one).
                Here’s my question: When scanning my photographic slides, what setting, from 72 dpi to 300 dpi, would result in the best image quality and use up the most efficient amount of space?
                Here’s what two different photo slide scanning service suppliers have told me:
    Supplier No. 1 tells me that they can scan slides to a size of 1544 x 1024 pixels, at 72 dpi, which will be 763 KB, and they refer to this as low resolution (a JPEG). However, I noticed when I looked at these scanned slides, the size of the slides varied, with a maximum of 1.8 MB. This supplier says that the dpi doesn’t matter when it comes to the quality of the final digital image, that it is the dimensions that matter.  They say that if they scanned a slide to a higher resolution (2048 x 3072), they would still scan it at 72 dpi.
    Supplier No. 2: They tell me that in order to have a high quality image made from a photographic slide (starting with a 35 mm slide, in all cases), I need to have a “1280 pixel dimension slide, a JPEG, at 300 dpi, that is 8 MB per image.” However, this supplier also offers, on its list of services, a “Standard Resolution JPEG (4MB file/image – 3088 x 2048), as well as a “High Resolution JPEG (8 MB file/image – 3088x2048).
    I will be presenting my Keynotes with my MacBook Pro, and will not have a chance to try out the presentations in advance, since the lecture location is far from my home, so that is not an option.
    I do not want to use up more memory than necessary on my laptop.  I also want to have the best quality image.
    One more question: When scanning images myself, on my own scanner, for my Keynote presentations, would I be better off scanning them as JPEGs or TIFFs? I have been told that a TIFF is better because it is less compressed.
    Any enlightenment on this subject would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

    When it comes to Keynote, I try and start with a presentation that's 1680 x 1050 preset or something in that range.  Most projectors that you'll get at a conference won't project much higher than that and if they run at a lower resolution, it's better to have the device downsize your Keynote.  Anything is better than having the projector try and upsize your presentation... you work hard to make it look good, and it's mangled by some tired Epson projector.
    As far as slides go, scan them in at 150 dpi or better, and make them at least the dimensions of your presentation.  Keynote is really only wanting 72dpi, but I do them at 150, just in case I need to print out the presentation as a handout later, and having the pix at 150 dpi gives me a little help with their quality on a printer.
    You'd probably have to drop in the 150 versions again if you output the Keynote to .pdf or Word or something, but at least you have the option.
    And Gary's right (above) go ahead and scan them as TIFFs.  Sooner or later you'll want to do something else with these slides (like make something for an iPad or the like) and having them as TIFFs keeps your presentation looking good.
    Finally, and this is a big one, get to the location for your presentation ahead of time if you can, and plug the laptop in and see what you get.  There's always connection problems. Don't let the AV bonehead tell you everything will work just fine ('... I don't have any adapters for a Mac...') .  See it for yourself... you're the one that's standing up there.  Unless it's your boss, then you better be really sure it works.

  • How do you add a button that will email the PDF its on?

    I need to create a form but they want it to have a button that will open up an email to send that PDF as an attachment or something along those lines.  Is that possible?

    Just a bit more info. E-mail can be used, but has potential problems -- often related to the client machine that you have no control over. Use the data submissions (either FDF or XML) rather than the full PDF so you do not have to deal with Reader Rights and the related license issues. The FDF and XML data files are easily imported into the original form so that you see what the client sees. With those aspects in mind, just go ahead and try one. Be aware that you can add form fields using the form tools in the Advanced Editing tools, OR use the forms menu that will take you to Designer. You might want to try both to see the pros and cons. Be sure to keep such a test simple so you are not wasting time on your final form just for testing. I typically create a 1 page form that has all of the possible fields for such a test.

  • Can I create a button that will take me to a random slide in a sequence?

    Let's say I have three simulations setup and the simulations start on slide 5, 15, and 23. Can I make a button that will randomly jump to one of those slides?

    You have to execute that script using an event, in this case you'll use the Success event of the button that you created to 'jump'. And it will probably be an advanced action, unless you execute the JS with the On Enter event of the slide. You have two commands: first to execute the script, second to jump to that slide, for which you'll have to use a system variable cpCmndGotoSlide and the value of the variable returned by the JS. Slide numbering starts with index 0.

  • How to create a submit by email button that emails the FORM AND DATA

    I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.  I've created a fillable form that can be fillable and saved in Adobe reader.  How do I add a submit by email button that will send me the form with the data?  Right now I am only getting the data.  I need the form with the data.
    Thank you in advance, Rob

    When you set up a submit form action, you have the option of choosing the form data (FDF, XFDF, HTML) or the complete PDF. Choose the latter. For this to work with Reader (prior to 11), the document has to be Reader-enabled, which you do by selecting: Advanced > Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader

  • Create a clear button that will clear a jpanel

    so i have two classes. One being a frame, and the other being a panel.
    On the panel, i can draw various shapes with various colours etc. The frame contains the panel, and also a north panel containing various buttons to achieve this.
    What i would i need to do is create a clear button that will clear the panel.
    I know i can go and set it so it's draws a rectangle the same colour as the background but that would be cheating.
    I will post a section of the paint just so you get an idea.
        public void paintComponent(Graphics gPanel) {
            if (this.buffer == null) {
                Dimension d = getSize();

                this.g2Buffer = (Graphics2D) this.buffer.getGraphics();
                this.g2Buffer.setColor(Color.white);
                this.g2Buffer.fillRect(0, 0, d.width, d.height);
                // This time we'll draw with a broad pen
            g2Buffer.setStroke(new BasicStroke(myLineWidth));
            if (myShapeFlag == 1){{
                this.g2Buffer.setColor(Color.white);
                g2Buffer.setXORMode(myLineColour); //go into the overwrite mode
                g2Buffer.drawLine(xStart, yStart, xOld, yOld); // undraw last
                g2Buffer.drawLine(xStart, yStart, xEnd, yEnd);     // draw new
                g2Buffer.setPaintMode();          // out of XOR overwrite mode
                xOld = xEnd;                    // store last end point
                yOld = yEnd;
            if(mouseReleased) {          // final time through
                g2Buffer.setColor(myLineColour);
                g2Buffer.drawLine(xStart, yStart, xEnd, yEnd);     // draw final
                mouseReleased = false;
            gPanel.drawImage(this.buffer, 0, 0, this); }Any help on this would be much appreciated

    no idea how to do this.. sorry...
    for the jbutton action listenener i'm not sure.
    I think i'm on the right tracks with a method
        public void clearPanel(Graphics gPanel){
                g2Buffer.fillRect(100,100,100,100);     // draw final
                gPanel.drawImage(this.buffer, 0, 0, this);
    }but again i think i'm way off the mark..

  • Creating a button that will Copy my view from so I can paste it to MS Word

    Is there a way I can create a button that will copy my view from so I can paste it MS Word?
    I know I can select the entire form and copy and paste it, but is there a way to do it via a button similar to my "Print Form" button?
    Thank you.

    so there isn't a button that will copy the text my view form?
    instead of highlighting the data I want to easily copy it so I can paste it on a word document
    I came up with a script that when a item is highlighted I click the copy to clipboard and it copies the item.
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function CopyToClipboard()
    CopiedTxt = document.selection.createRange();
    CopiedTxt.execCommand("Copy");
    </script>
    but is there a way I can put in the script the area I want to start the copy from instead of highlighting the text first?
