Button to pause parent swf AND open URL?

i'm using Captivate for some online training. I want to be
able to show the learner a button that will say 'click here for
more info' but not have the swf pause. If there user doesn't click
it, the swf keeps playing, if they do click it, I want the swf to
pause and a new window to open with a different URL...
I'm pretty sure Captivate can't do it, so I'm trying
actionscript, but it's been years since I messed with it.
thanks for your help.

Hello again
Your situation is a bit unique in that you want the pause
only to occur AFTER the button has been clicked.
Many (dare I say most) Captivate presentations will have a
Button that simply pauses the slide and waits for the user to click
it. Normally, when the Button has been clicked, it carries out its
action. If that action is to open a URL or a file, you are able to
choose to open it up in a new window. This allows the Captivate
movie to remain open while your user views the content in the new
window.
The option "Continue playing project" will cause the pause to
be released when the user clicks the Button. Often, this isn't
desired. It would seem to me that the logical choice for a default
setting should actually be with this option disabled. After all,
the only way to get at it is to first choose to open in a new
window. And if you are doing that, you seldom want your Captivate
to continue playing. But I digress...
Anyway, that option is often what we steer folks to. The
Button has paused the slide, when it has been clicked by the user,
the new window opens and the user views or interacts with the
content in the new window. If the project merrily continues along
playing, they may close the new window (or tab) and return to a
Captivate that has ended. And they have thus missed perhaps half or
more of the movie you intended for them to see.
Does that make better sense?
Cheers... Rick

• Button that will pause project AND open URL

how can I create a button, that upon clicking will pause the
movie, and open a URL in another window. I've got javascript that
opens another window, but the movie doesn't pause. I uncheck the
'pause movie' box because I want the user to have the option of

• Can I use a submit button that will automatically flatten and open up the save as screen?

Hello,
I'm working with forms in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and I want the submit button to flatten the document then open the save as screen. I know I can print to pdf and this automatically will open that screen, but these forms are going to be used with tablets that may or may not have the "print to adobe" as an option. Is there another way to flatten? I know the PDF Optimizer will do that too, but it isn't an executable option in the button properties. Magic anyone? Thanks.

It depends very much on the platform and the applications used by the users of this form. If they are using non-Adobe software, all bets are off.
Also, some tablets (iPad) don't support JS, so even if they do use Adobe's Reader for the iOS, there's not much that can be done in the way of scripting.
Generally speaking: In Acrobat you can flatten the form, but in Reader that's not possible. What you can do, though, is create a function that makes the form fields read-only, thus preventing the user from editing them after having submitted the file.

• Is there any way to use RUN button to deploy the application and open IE...

Hi
Thank you for reading my post
i used to use Run button to compile / deploy and run (opening the browser to project context path) .
i want to know is there any way to use RUN button to deploy an application to standalone OC4J and opening browser?
I know that we can define ear or war deployment profiles and use them to deploy the application to stand alone server , but i want a single click solution.

Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
* [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
* [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you.

• FF 14.0.1: Bookmark with java-script function to build and open URL. Works unless clicked when already in a new blank tab, then does nothing. Why?

On 14.0.1 I have a bookmark which calls a java script function to prompt for input, build and call a dynamic URL. This has worked fine until last update of FF. It works fine if I right click and select Open in a New Tab, or new window. It works fine if I am in any other website and click it. It only does not work, if I open a new blank tab or window, and then click it from inside that new tab. Then it does nothing. Same happens whether the "New tab Page" is displayed or not. Same happens in safe mode.
Bookmark properties:
javascript:void(str=prompt(%22Document%20Number:%22,%22%22));if(str){location.href=%22https://somecompany.com/oip/faces/secure/km/DocumentDisplay.jspx?id=%22+escape(str).split(%22%20%22).join(%22+%22);}

I searched for a recent thread on this but couldn't find it.
This may be the result of a security restriction on some "about" pages such as about:home and about:newtab.
Did you blank the new tab page using the little button or did you actually change the new tab page to about:blank? In case you need steps for testing:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the filter box, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter the desired value:
''(i) Page thumbnails (default)''
browser.newtab.url = about:newtab
''(ii) Blank tab''
browser.newtab.url = about:blank
''(iii) Built-in Firefox home page''
browser.newtab.url = about:home
''(iv) Any other page''
browser.newtab.url = full URL to the page

• Pausing swfs and audio in a browser when the tab is out of focus

I'm trying to code my flash file so that the html will pause all swfs AND audio when the tab is out of foucs. I found this code on http://frontenddeveloper.net/wiki/index.php?title=JavaScript_and_VBScript_Injection_in_Act ionScript_3 and it works,but not completely. It only pauses the movie clips that are in the Flash file and not any that are exteranlly loaded with audio included.
How can I adjust it to pause the externally loaded swfs that are loaded to a mc within my main movie clip and the audio OR what should I use in place of this code? Someone mentioned on a different post that I needed to use a window.onblur funcition, but they didn't give details.
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.utils.setTimeout;
// This is a more "safe than sorry" setting, since multiple domains
// have entry into my site. Can be removed or hardcoded if you feel
// secure or insecure, as you see fit.
flash.system.Security.allowDomain("*");
// Throw any errors around to make sure somebody actually gets them.
ExternalInterface.marshallExceptions = true;
// This is not the most ideal way to toggle animations on and off, but
// it's thorough, generic, and simple. Iterate all movieclips within
// clip, shutting them down each in turn. A better, but much more tedious
// method would be to target specific clips using dotpath notation, telling
// each in turn to turn off or on depending on what we need.
// BUT this is just a demo, and what we're really interested in is the
// event-handling mechanism that actually calls this routine, and not the
// routine itself.
function toggleAllClips(doAnim, clip) {
if ( clip is MovieClip) {
if (doAnim) {
clip.play();
} else {
clip.stop();
for (var i = 0; i<clip.numChildren; i++) {
toggleAllClips(doAnim, clip.getChildAt(i));
function animOn(e:*=null) {
toggleAllClips(true, this.mainMC);
function animOff(e:*=null) {
toggleAllClips(false, this.mainMC);
function injectPrep(e:*=null) {
try {
ExternalInterface.addCallback("jsanimOn", animOn);
ExternalInterface.addCallback("jsanimOff", animOff);
} catch (e) {
trace(e);
function injectListeners(e:*=null) {
try {
// Object/Embed ID of this movie needs to be inserted into the
// JavaScript before we actually wrap and send it to the browser:
var jsfix=js.toString().replace(/xxx/g, ExternalInterface.objectID);
ExternalInterface.call(jsfix);
} catch (e) {
trace(e);
// Using timeouts ensures the movie is actually done loading before
// these fire, helping compatibility for a few browser versions.
setTimeout(injectPrep,0);
setTimeout(injectListeners,100);
JAVASCRIPTS
JavaScript needs to be wrapped in a tag, a cdata, and a closure
function in order to be wrapped up and sent to the browser.
Note that an ActionScript function will replace all instances
of "xxx" with the actual ID used for this SWF.
We're battling some major bugs and crossbrowser idiosyncrasies
here:
1) In Internet Explorer the 'onblur' event is implemented
incorrectly (as opposed to Firefox/Mozilla browsers). It is
wrongly fired when focus is switched between HTML elements
*inside* a window. As a result, we have to use onfocusout
instead of onblur, and keep track of which element is active.
If we focusout and the active element is not the previous
active element, then we haven't actually "blurred" and dont
want to trigger Flash.
2) Firefox has problems interpreting both getElementById and
document["swf"] when dealing with "twicebaked" object/embeds.
Adobe's method of finding the swf fails to address the fact
that document["swf"] sometimes returns an array in this
situation rather than an object ref, and getElementById
sometimes confuses name and id.
3) When a window is created in Firefox, it doesn't actually have
"focus" (event though it appears to) and therefore won't "blur"
unless you actually click in it first, i.e if you open up a
window, then immediately send it to the background, it never
gets the command to halt the flash. So we have to explicitly
focus the blasted thing to get it to work properly.
4) Because of irregularities caused by Ajax, the way browsers shut
down, and other factors, there's a good chance our swf won't
be there when a blur (or focusout) event occurs. Therefore we
need an explicit check within the event handler itself.
5) Finally, we want to wrap everything inside a wrapper-closure
function, to keep everything safe from being stepped on. Lucky
us, we have to do this anyways to get everything to fit inside
a single ExternalInterface.call event.
var js:XML = ;

I added this code and it removes the externally loaded swfs. I don't want that, I want them to pause and then resume when the tab is back in foucs. Also, the main code restarts the main movie clip upon refocusing too.
Added code:
function toggleAllLoaders(doAnim, loader) {
if ( loader is Loader) {
if (doAnim) {
loader.play();
} else {
loader.stop();
for (var i = 0; i<loader.numChildren; i++) {
toggleAllLoaders(doAnim, loader.getChildAt(i));
I added the new function to all of the places that had the "toggleAllClips" function.

• Load and open swf in new window

Hi everyone,
I have 2 flex applications named login and game. When the user logged in, I want the login swf to load the game swf and open it in a new window once it finished loading. I tried popup manager and title window but they only made the swf popped up INSIDE the app itself (which is the login swf). What I really want is to be able to load and open the game swf in a brand new popup window.
Please help. Thanks.

Loggin in is a classic example of when to use states.
The base state will be your app, and the "login" state will be your login state. Set the application currentState to 'login' in the creationComplete event.

<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
creationComplete="this.currentState='login'">

<mx:RemoveChild target="{vb}"/>
<mx:AddChild>

<mx:FormItem label="Password:">

</mx:FormItem>
<mx:FormItem>
<mx:Button label="Login" click="this.currentState=''"/>
</mx:FormItem>

</mx:AddChild>
</mx:State>
</mx:states>
<mx:VBox id="vb" width="100%" height="100%">
<mx:Label text="Login Done - Now in Main App"/>

• Open URL from a Captivate generated MP4

Hello all,
I am putting together an instructional video (.mp4) using Captivate 5.5, the video will be targeting iOS users.
I will need to provide a way to open some webpages while the end user is playing the mp4 file. My thought was to include a button with an assigned action to "Open URL or file" and specify the URL.
This does not seem to work after publishing to mp4 format. Is that feature not supported in Captivate mp4 files? Or did I forget a step maybe? Is there a workaround to achieve the same result?
I'd appreciate any input on this.

Hi there
Unless something has changed recently, it is my understanding that MP4 is strictly a video format and does not support hyperlinking or other types of interactivity.

• Problem with page submit and opening a popup.

Hello All,
Apex 3.1.2
I have a button that submits a page and opens a pop-up. I'm new to javascript so I'm really hacking my way through this, so syntax tips are very useful :)
I'm using the code below on the button, my popup opens but then my main page seems to refresh and immediately covers up the popup. How do I get the popup to stay in front of the main page? Is there a problem with my main page submit?
Here's my URL target for the button...
javascript:doSubmit('ADD_TO_GROUP');javascript:popUp2('f?p=&APP_ID.:2:&SESSION.::::P2_OPPORTUNITY_NUMBER: &P6_OPPORTUNITY_NUMBER.');
Thanks Much!
p.s. ADD_TO_GROUP is my button name, am I using that correctly in doSubmit? It seems like I can put anything there and I still get the same behavior.

--> Are your on/after submit processes conditional?
For the javascript, you could also try to put the javascript code into an html region of your page, with condition set to a REQUEST value, or the value of an item that you set on submit.It looks like what's happening is the page is branching back to itself and that's why my the popup is pushed to the background. I created a conditon on the branch that said request != "ADD_TO_GROUP" (my button request). This kept the focus on my popup but gave me the error that the page had no branch!
How do I get my main page to submit and the popup to appear IN FRONT of the main page?
Thanks!

Here is the theory - you should be able to figure it out from
there:
1. In your main movie create a new movieclip call it "Fade",
make the first frame blank and put a stop(); action on it.
2. On the second frame create a new graphic symbol bigger
then the full screen and make it a full black square.
3. Go a few frames ahead, the farther the longer the fade
will take. Insert a keyframe.
4. Go back to frame 2, select the black box graphic and make
its alpha = 0%
5. Create a tween on frame 2, this will make the box go from
invisible to visible on the last keyframe.
6. On the last frame where the box is totally black add the
getURL("url") actionscript.
7. Go back to the main scene of the movie and place the
"fade" movieclip on the top layer. Since it is stopped on the first
blank frame it will not be visible until something makes it play.
8. Add an actionscript to the button that will start the
fade, it will look like
*buttoninstancename*.onRelease = function () {
_root.Fade.gotoAndPlay(2);
//this tells the movie fade to go to the second frame and
play
replace *buttoninstancename* with the instance name of the
button on the stage that conrtols the fade.
That will make the "Fade" movie play, which is a tween that
turns the full screen to black, and then redirects to a new url at
the end.
Hope that helps.

• Clicking a button set to open url is skipping pause in slide

Hey there! I must be missing something that's right under my nose... I have two transparent buttons over images on a slide who's actions are set to Open URL or file with infinite attempts. I also am using back and next arrows with click boxes to continue and go back. The click box over the next arrow is set to pause the project until it is clicked. What is happening, though, is that when I play the project, clicking the buttons not only open the URL in a new window, as set, they also cause the project to continue to the next slide.
What am I doing wrong? Am I going about this the wrong way?
Thanks for your help!

Hi there
Look at the properties where you direct the link to a new window. There is an option there that governs whether a pause is released or not.

• How to pause stage/swf with audio when a new tab is opened/ out of focus in browser

I have created a container in Flash Professional CS5 for my project’s CBT. I’ve been able to script many of the features we require using AS3, but there are a couple of things I’m still trying to work out.
I would like the swf presently playing in one tab to pause and go silent when another swf is opened in a new tab (the sound is inside this externally loaded swf which is loaded inside a movie clip from buttons nested a movie clip down). I’ve tried :
var originalFrameRate:uint = stage.frameRate;
var standbyFrameRate:uint = 0;
addEventListener(Event.ACTIVATE, onActivate);
addEventListener(Event.DEACTIVATE, onDeactivate);
function onActivate(e:Event):void
stage.frameRate = originalFrameRate;
trace("in focus");
function onDeactivate(e:Event):void
stage.frameRate = standbyFrameRate;
SoundMixer.stopAll();
trace("out of focus");
And
I’ve looked into the HTML tag “has Priority”
and coded buttons to:
function fl_ClickToGoToWebPage(event:MouseEvent):void
navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://www.ansaldo-sts.com/AnsaldoSTS/EN/index.sdo"), "_blank");
MovieClip(this.stage).stop();
With variations of:
MovieClip(this.parent.parent)stop();
MovieClip(this.parent.parent.parent.parent)stop(); because the button is 3 movie clips deep.
MovieClip(this.root)stop();      MovieClip(root)stop();MovieClip(this.currentTarget.root)stop();
Could someone please provide me with the code?
This function is present when I publish the CBT with Captivate, so obviously there must be code available. You can set the Captivate button to open url in new window and pause movie.
Is there something I can add to the html file that is similar to the “has Priority” for mobile devices or is there javascript that can be added to the flash itself?

You would send a command to Flash from JavaScript when window.onblur event occurs.

hi,
Do the following steps :
-> Make an Outbound Plug to the Window.
->Make the type of Outbound plug to Exit Type.
->Add URL of type String as a parameter to the outbound plug of Window.
->Do remember to add Component Name in the Properties Tab of View ( othervs Calling Outbound plug of window from view wont b possible ).
To open a new URL with closing the previous one write this Code in OnAction of Button : ( this Code can be get from Code Wizard too ).
DATA lo_zexit TYPE REF TO ig_zexit . <zexit is name of my Component>
lo_zexit =   wd_this->get_zexit_ctr( ).
lo_zexit->fire_out_window_plg(
url =   'http://www.google.com'                            " string
I hope it helps.
Thanx.

• Open swf in new window from parent swf

I'm making a gallery for some flash banners that I had
created in AS3. When I click on a "launch" button, I wanted the
flash banner swf to open in a new window separate from the parent
swf (the gallery). I also wanted the parent swf to remain open.
Is this possible and what would the code look like for
something like this?

ok, I should've also mentioned this, the flash gallery I'm
making is not for the web, it's more for just opening in a flash
player. So I don't really want it to open in a new browser window,
but rather a new swf window, if there is such a thing.
