Button to Navigate Timeline

I am using Flash CS3 making use of AS3.
I have 10 buttons, every button will play the next 10 frames
on the current timeline then "jump" to its intended frame which is
also in a different scene. The goal is to have the beginning of
every scene a basic template so that no matter where you jump from
everything is consistent.
While I have learned quite a bit in the last 2 weeks, this is
my second Flash Document ever (my first was done a couple weeks ago
and had no AS to worry about). I have no problem reading or
researching as long as I can find the material to do so, so a point
in the right direction would be great.
Here is a link to what I have so far (note: this only has one
button until I learn how to build the button properly, then I will
be able to finish the presentation):
http://www.celestial-advocates.com/images/bosses/Akil'zon4.swf
Oh hey... my next hurdle will be to learn how to make a
button to display my presentation in fullscreen format... but all
things in time :)

Based on your suggestion I started reading up on Arrays and I
can build an indexed Array, however I have no clue how to use it,
nor am I convinced that the Array I built is usable for the task at
hand. I am finding that I can find help for individual components
but I don't know enough to put them together.
When I say I have no clue how to use the Array I mean I don't
know where to put the code, I don't know how to write code for a
button to call an element from within the Array to do anything.
At this stage I think the best "help" would be to have an FLA
file that does what I am looking for. Then I can take that and
learn how it works. Someone had done that for me earlier but they
used Flash 8 which utilizes AS2 and I do not see how to transfer
that knowledge for use in AS3.
Their example had 4 buttons. By clicking on a button the
timeline would play to a given point then jump to the frame
intended. The Code for those buttons looked like this:
on (press) {
chapter = "chapter1"; // "chapter1" makes reference to a
frame name
gotoAndPlay("Fade out"); // "Fade out" makes reference to a
frame name
At first glance I would have thought this to be an easy task
and I am sure once I learn how to do it I will see that it is
indeed a simple task, however I am beginning to see that I may be
asking too much of the Forum members.

  • To disable the horizontal scrollbar and to create a next button to navigate

    To disable the horizontal scrollbar and to create a next button to navigate through the records. At present I create a JSF page and drag and drop my table view and then using the Tuning property I have limited the number of records to be shown. But I need to add a button and then code it to display the next few records. Can someone kindly suggest a suitable mechanism to get this accomplished.
    Edited by: 888970 on Oct 2, 2011 10:15 PM

    Hi Erp,
    At present these are the entries that I have in my JSPX page.
    I have a Table, Iterator and a Input List of Values. As per the scenario, I want a few rows to appear on the table for which I wanted to disable the horizontal scroll bar and then once I click on the list of values it must prompt me with the remaining page numbers.
    Earlier there are about 150 records in the table. I want to show them as 15 per page.
    For which I have added the Iterator and a LOV component code in my JSPX page.
    <af:iterator id="i1"
    value="#{bindings.NsEventDetailsView1.collectionModel}"
    var="row"
    binding="#{pageFlowScope.testPageBean.myIterator}"/>
    <af:inputListOfValues label="Label 1"
    popupTitle="Search and Result Dialog" id="ilov1"/>
    Then I created the bean class as per the example.
    Below is the bean class:
    import javax.faces.event.ValueChangeEvent;
    import oracle.adf.view.rich.context.AdfFacesContext;
    import org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.component.UIXIterator;
    import org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.event.AttributeChangeEvent;
    public class TestPagebean {
    public TestPagebean() {
    public void i1ov1_valueChangeListener(ValueChangeEvent valueChangeEvent) {
    // Add event code here...
    private UIXIterator myiter;
    public void setI1(UIXIterator myiter) {
    this.myiter=myiter;
    public UIXIterator getmyiter() {
    this.myiter=myiter;
    public UIXIterator setmyiter() {
    return myiter;
    UIXIterator valueIterator = getmyiter();
    if (!valueChangeEvent.getNewValue().equals(valueChangeEvent.getOldValue())) {
    int newPage =
    Integer.parseInt(valueChangeEvent.getNewValue().toString());
    int pageStart = (newPage) * valueIterator.getRows();
    valueIterator.setFirst(pageStart);
    AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(valueIterator);
    But i am getting errors in the bean class.
    1. Block expecting }
    2. public UIXIterator getmyiter() {
    this.myiter=myiter;
    Return Statement missing
    3. Block expecting {
    4. Type or variable 'valueChangeEvent' not found
    5. Method 'getNewValue' not found
    6. Method 'getOldValue' not found
    7. Method 'toString' not found
    Can you suggest a possible solution?

  • Scroll buttons in the TimeLine's ScrollBar in AdobePremiere CS6

    I see a lot of questions about scroll speed in TimeLine, but I used very intense the scroll buttons, when i had long TimeLines (more than 4 hours) and I was with ZoomIn near 90%.
    Does anyone know, is it possible to enable scroll buttons in the TimeLine's ScrollBar in AdobePremiere CS6, as it was in CS5/CS4 ?
    CS5 image: http://www.maclife.com/files/u129772/2010/06/premiere_full.jpg
    CS6 image: http://www.100acrefilms.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Premiere-Pro-CS6.png
    On demo CS5 image, On the bottom margin, the horizontal scrollbar from TimeLine has Left and Right scroll Buttons.
    On demo CS6 image, on the bottom margin the horizontal scrollbar from TimeLine doesn't contain any scroll buttons.
    Actually there are no scroll buttons available in Premiere CS6, as in a classic scrollbar.
    I'd like to have back the scroll buttons in the horizontal scrollbar from the TimeLine, which were available in version CS5, CS4, CS3, Pro2.
    In TimeLines with 3 more hours it was very handy to go to right or to left even I had zoomed In.
    I pressed on left/right scroll  button in TimeLine and I was able to deplace with some (or more) frames in desired side.
    Thank you for answers / suggestions.

    There are no user settings for this.  The scroll bar is now a combo scroll/zoom bar and we're pretty much stuck with it.  You can grab the bar and move it around if you like, and I'm happy to report that Premiere Pro CC does now scroll as a usable speed with the mouse wheel. (On my personal Windows 8 system, at least.  We'll see if that holds true for my Windows 7 edit rig as well.)

  • I accidentally eliminated my "Linked Selection" button over the timeline. How do I get it back?

    I accidentally eliminated my "Linked Selection" button over the timeline. How do I get it back?

    I'm finding it difficult to understand what you eliminated.  Are you saying you no longer see your clips at the upper left of the screen ... the ones you placed in the timeline?  Or are you saying you see the clips from the events but not the event names on the left most border of the upper left of the screen?  There is a little arrow that points to the left with a bar to the left of it midway down the left border of the screen.  Clicking on this little arrow hides or reveals the event names you have. (see below). Can you give us a little more info?  Best wishes.

  • An on | off subtitles button for several timelines

    hello.
    let me apologize in advance for my english... it is not that good.
    I work with encore cs4.
    now... I would like to know how to create a subtitles on | off button in the main menu that will affect
    all of the features in my dvd. I ot the idea from a dvd of the "doctor who" series that i bought and thought how to mix it with my project.
    i need a button in the main menu that if i click on, the subtitles will be automaticly applied to
    all of the timelines in my project and another button wich will disable all of the subtitles.
    NOTIFICATION : I have only one track of subtitles for each video.
    how can I create that kind of a bottun?
    thanks

    These images are CS6, but I think all this is the same in CS4.
    You can make a new menu, or use one you have and add the two buttons.
    Add two buttons; one labeled "Subtitles ON" and the other "Subtitles OFF."
    Select the "On" button and use "specify link." Select the menu you are in, and set the subtitle to "1" (your subtitle track will be #1, since you only have 1, right?
    For "off," do the same thing.
    For the target for the "on" button, just make it to the "play" button on that same menu, or the "play" button on your other menu.
    So...
    Make an on and off button:
    Select the "on" button and go to set its link and select "specify link."
    For its target, use a menu button, not your timeline. And for the "on" button you will pick subtitle track 1; for the "off" button  you will pick "off."
    Just that easy!

  • Getting a video to stop playing when user clicks on another button to navigate

    Hello,
    I am trying to create a little website in flash.. I have some video that plays automatically once the user goes to that section (I am using frame labels to navigate from section to section of the site).
    But, when the user clicks another button to go to a different page, the video is still playing because I hear it..How can I stop the video from playing once another button gets clicked?
    thanks
    babs

    All's you should need, if the video starts playing on its own, is...
    function clickSection(evtObj:MouseEvent) {
         if (this.currentLabel == "about") {
              about_mc.vid_mc.gotoAndStop(1);
         gotoAndStop(evtObj.target.name);
    If the video needs to be kick started because it was sent back to stop at frame 1 due to a previous navigation, then place that kick start in the about frame itself... about_mc.vid_mc.play();
    If that's not working, be sure to check that your instance names are assigned.  Also, I have been assuming that the video is embedded into the timeline of the movieclip, so if that's not the case, then some other solution may be needed.

  • Using cuepoints to navigate timeline

    Hello,
    I have a movie with several navigational cuepoints embedded.
    When the movie gets to these cuepoints, I want to navigate to other
    frames in the timeline (the movie has its own layer and has a
    single keyframe for the whole timeline, but other parts of the
    stage have things happening on different keyframes). Below is my
    code, where my cuepoints are named 5.1 and 5.2 the instance name
    for my FLVplayback is vid. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    did you ever find success with this?

  • Using the Safari Back button to navigate?

    Why is it when I'm navigating the Support communities and I use the Safari back button it always goes to the top of the list and not to the list that I have already expanded. It gets pretty annoying to have to keep expanding the topic list to get back to were a left off.

    Every "List" you see is sorted by activity - latest first. If you navigate away, then back, you are reloading the page with a new set of activity.
    If you wish to use a list as a "Home Base" after using "Load More", COMMAND > Click the link (Title?) to open the thread in a new TAB. when finished, close the TAB and you will see your Home Base as you left it - likely with the thread you chose Underlined

  • Navigate Timeline with keyboard

    Curious if anyone knows how to navigate through clips in the timeline?
    I know "v" will select the nearest edit, then I can hit enter and open that clip in the viewer. But I'd like to be able to establish a focus on a clip and jump forward or back or down. Is there anything like that?
    Thanks in advance.

    basic timeline navigation is handled through industry standard NLE transport controls ...
    J = play backwards, double tap it and you will play backward at 2x speed, triple tap and faster still etc
    K = pause
    L = play forward, double tap it and you will play forward at 2x speed, triple tap and faster still etc
    press J and K together and you will play slowmo backward
    press L and K together and you will play slowmo forward
    press K whilst tapping J will jog backward one frame ... same as tapping the back arrow key
    press K whilst tapping L will jog forward one frame ... same as tapping the forward arrow key
    press the up arrow key will move the playhead to the previous edit point
    press the down arrow key will move the playhead to the next edit point
    there are loads more of these basic transport controls, look under the Mark menu > Previous and Next for more examples
    if your goal is to have the clip load into the viewer then consider using the Playhead Sync mode to Open (View menu > Playhead Sync > Open) as that mode automatically opens in the Viewer window whichever clip is currently under the timeline playhead

  • Can a menu button loop a timeline?

    I need to make a timeline loop on a DVD. Normally I'd make the end action of the timeline point to the start of the timeline and it would loop. But client wants to give the option from a menu -- play the timeline through once, or loop it continuously. IOW, if once through the end action of the timeline is to return to the menu, and if continuous loop the end action is to return to the start of the timeline.
    Is this possible? If it is, how do I do it? Just for future reference, would it be possible on blu-ray?

    Two buttons.
    "Play once" goes to a playlist that contains only the one timeline. End action of playlist is the menu.
    "Loop" goes to the timeline. End action of timeline is the timeline.
    Edit. You can also do it  using an override.

  • Button to navigate and unload swf

    I have the following code to load an external swf by clicking a button. It works fine.
    btn_01_01.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToLoadUnloadSWF);
    function fl_ClickToLoadUnloadSWF(event:MouseEvent):void
    var url:String = event.currentTarget.name+".swf";
    fl_Loader.load(new URLRequest("loads/TEST_VID_AS3.swf"));
    I also have a button that takes me to another place on the timeline.
    this.btn_back_main.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,fback_main);
    function fback_main(evt:MouseEvent)
    MovieClip(this.root).gotoAndPlay("main");
    But the loaded swf is still visible.
    I would like that button to also unload the loaded swf.
    Can anyone tell me if it's possible and suggest code?
    Thank you in advance.

    this should do it (assuming the btn to remove it is called "btn_remover"):
    var ld:Loader = new Loader();
    btn_01_02.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, v);
    function v(e:MouseEvent):void {
         ld.load(new URLRequest("loads/TEST_VID_AS3.swf"))
         addChild(ld)
    btn_remover.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, removeSwf);
    function removeSwf(e:MouseEvent):void {
         ld.unloadAndStop();
    firstly, i moved the Loader definition outside of the function (otherwise it gets removed at the end of the function and cant be accessed later)
    then i added event listener to remove button to call removeSwf function - which calls unloadAndStop() on the loader object
    fyi, i suggest you use more descriptive names for your buttons and functions otherwise you'll find it harder to work out whats going on if you come back to it after a break.

  • Button targeting main timeline

    I have a button inside of a movieclip inside of a movieclip
    on the main stage. I want the button to gotoAndStop in the main
    (root) timeline on frame 21. I can't figure out the correct code
    for this, this is one of the things I've tried:
    on (release) {
    gotoAndStop(_root, 25);

    should be:
    on (release) {
    _root.gotoAndStop(25);
    Hope that helps!

  • Button on main timeline control movieclip

    Hello,
    I have a stop on my main timeline. At the stop I have a movieclip play. In the movieclip I will have a video play. After the video plays I have a button for the user to continue play until the end of the movieclip. Once the movieclip is done I want to resume back to a specific frame in my main timeline.
    I can't figure out how to make this work. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

    Ned,
    Thanks for the reply and the help.
    I actually got everything to work the way I need it to. I simply had my button in the movieclip continue play then at the end of the last frame, applied a little voodoo and I was all smiles after I tested my Movie. Here's what I did...
    x_btn in movieclip (not on main timeline) -
         x_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN,mouseDownHandler10);
         function mouseDownHandler10(event:MouseEvent):void {
                  gotoAndPlay(41);
    last frame in movie clip -
         MovieClip(root).gotoAndStop(130);

  • Is it possible to place forward/back nav buttons in a timeline based gallery. Stand alone SWF needed.

    I'm currently working on a gallery to be output as a stand-alone SWF file, and am doing it all on the timeline as I can't write actionscript for toffee
    So far, I have the gallery created with alpha tweens fading between embedded images. These images are buttons, to which I have added URL links (my only foray into actionscript), which will send the user to a specific link related to the image being shown at the time. At the moment this is just a linear timeline that flows from start to finish and loops to the start again - as per most other simple timeline based animations.
    I have now been asked if I can add two nav buttons (one each side of the frame) to allow the user to flip back and forth through the images. Is this possible on a timeline? And if so, how would it best be implimented? I just don't know if a button action can affect the flow of a timeline.
    Ideally the gallery will auto flow, until either of the forward/back nav buttons are clicked.
    Any help here would be really really appreciated.
    Paul

    Thanks for that Ned. I've had a quick look, and will research deeper later. Though being a complete and utter novice at actionscript, I am flummoxed by probably the simplest of stuff by your standards. For example, the scripts I saw briefly, using the searches you suggested appeared to not export a stand alone SWF file - with no XML files or image folders (I'm still to work out if is possible to do that for this particular use). Also, on all of the examples I saw, the buttons are embedded at the bottom of the pane, and I really need to put the buttons as plainly obvious clickable blobs on either side of the image area. This, again, I can easily do on a timeline (apart from actually making them work of course) but to do this with someone else's AS code, will need more time than I have to learn the relevent stuff.
    Does it sound like I may have to just settle for a linear, non-interactive rotating gallery? - based on my knowledge limitations, as well as needing a stand alone SWF.
    Paul.

  • Change the look of a button during the timeline?

    In web design, you usually define a  CSS style for a navigation link, which will appear when the user is  currently on that page. So if I was on the "about" page, the "about"  link in the navigation would be highlighted red, for example.
    I'm trying  to do the same thing with a button in Flash. When a user clicks the  button ("on(release)"), it will take them to another frame in the  timeline, and, the look of the button will change to let the  user know they are currently on that frame. I thought I could do this by  adding a keyframe at the destination frame, then going into the button  and changing the "up" frame. Sadly, that doesn't work, as it changes the  "up" frame for the button everywhere.
    Then I tried a movie clip instead,  but I can't use on(release) with that. I'm sure I'm missing something  here...any suggestions? Thanks!

    To use the movieclip you need to give it an instance name and assign code to it in the timeline...  For instance, if you gave it an instance name of mcName, then you would place the following actionscript in the timeline where the button is (preferably ina separate actions layer)...
    mcName.onRelease = function(){
         // whatever is done
