Buttons and Sub Forms

Been new to LiveCycle, I have managed to create some basic forms but would like to know the best way of creating a menu and depending on which menu choice the user makes then only subform appears and the others are invisible. So if the user is offered options A B or C and selects B then they are then taken to that Subform. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
LC Designer can handle this, you just need to give a full enough reference to the object that you want to access.
So for example if the subform was on page5 and the dropdown was on page1, the script in the dropdown would look something like this:
page5.flowedSubform.optionA.presence = "hidden";
You drag on subforms where you want to group objects, so that for example you can change their presence or have flowed content. You don't have to create subforms - you can just drag objects onto the page and access them individually. Its up to you.
There are various online guides on the Adobe website.

http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/lc_migrating_acrobat_xmlform. pdf
And a very handy resource (and while it is for version 6 it is still very good because of the way it is laid out):http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/tips/CalcScripts.pdf
JP Terry's book on LC Forms is very good and we use www.pdfscripting.com (which is a subscription service).
The help file also helps with syntax and LC Designer comes with templates/examples.
Lastly, check out the Developer's Network on http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle/
Hope that helps,

  • Imported Form and sub-form from another database. Sub-form not creating new records tied to parent form's data.

    I have imported all objects from an old access db (.adp file) into a new db (.accdb).  All of my data lives in sql server so I have added all the tables and views to the .accdb as linked tables.  My forms all connect to data, but I am having issues
    with a sub form.  The sub form does not allow for creation of children records tied to the parent record the way the old db did/does.
    Correct - old format .adp file (notice the empty second record in sub-form with the defaulted date of today's date):
    Incorrect - new .accdb file (notice the lack of empty second record in sub-form like above):
    If I click the create new record icon in the bottom of the subform, it creates a completely blank record not tied to the parent record (fields blacked out in screen shots above).  When using this button all parent record fields are blank.
    I have also verified the child table used in the sub-form has a valid Fky relationship to parent table used in the parent form.

    Have you checked each forms 'Filter' property (in Design view) to make sure they are blank and that each forms 'Filter On Load' property to make sure it is set to 'No'? Also, you might try inserting the following commands in each forms On
    Open event:
    DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdRemoveAllFilters
    DoCmd.ShowAllRecords
    If you can open each forms Record Source and they are showing that new records are able to be entered (the new record * is showing at the bottom of the recordset), then check each forms On Load and On Open events to make sure there is no filtering.
    In addition, check any macro or VBA commands behind the button that opens the main form to make sure there is no SQL filtering in the DoCmd.OpenForm command.
    If one of the forms Record Source does NOT allow new records, then you will need to change that Record Source so the new record * indicator shows.
    Out of ideas at this point.

  • Submit button and using form fields

    Hello all, I'm a bit new to using LiveCycle.  I created a form in acrobat. I have all my fields working properly but I ran into a snag.  Seems as though people with reader can't open and fill in my form because of a saving issue.  So I figured... let's try LiveCycle. I opened the same form.
    This is what I can figure out: I need a submit button that can attach the current pdf to a new email and then grab some of the field values from the form.  These field values are used to fill in the subject and the "To" field in outlook. I had a button that could do this in acrobat, but it doesn't seem to work in LiveCycle.  Can someone please offer some guidance?  Thanks so much.
    This is what I had on the acrobat form that worked before LiveCycle if it helps at all (used from an adobe sample):
    // This is the form return e-mail. Its hardcoded
       // The form will return to the manager chosen from the dropdown bob
       var cToAddr = "[email protected]";
       // First, get the client CC e-mail address
       var cCCAddr = this.getField("manager").value;
       // Now get the beneficiary e-mail only if it is filled out
       var cBenAddr = this.getField("PlaceHolderEmail").value;
       // Get the name and req number
       var cName = this.getField("EmployeeName").value;
       var cNumber = this.getField("Department").value;
       // Set the subject and body text for the e-mail message
       var cSubLine = "Absence Notification - " + cName + " - " + cNumber;
       var cBody = "Thank you for submitting this form.\n" +
                   "Save the mail attachment as a record";
       //** Send the form data as an PDF attachment on an e-mail
       // Build the e-mail URL
       var cEmailURL = "mailto:" + cCCAddr + "?cc=" + cBenAddr
                     + "&subject=" + cSubLine
                     + "&body=" + cBody;
       this.submitForm({cURL: cEmailURL, cSubmitAs:"PDF", cCharSet:"utf-8"});

    Here is a sample form for your reference..
    https://acrobat.com/#d=CK4QgXn38l49bzQlhWtKSA
    You need to use the rawValue to get the field value in LiveCycle..
    for example
          // First, get the client CC e-mail address
         var cCCAddr = manager.rawValue;
    Thanks

  • Spry, Mousover-Buttons and Email-Form problem. Site is 100% error free.

    My site: http://www.wientjesvoegwerk.nl/
    Its xhtml1.0 and css validated.
    I have a few problems however.
    This was how i did it first:
    <li class="TabbedPanelsTab" tabindex="0">
              <style>#Home a{display:block;color:transparent;} #Home a:hover{background-position:left bottom;}a#Home {display:none}</style>
              <table id="Home" width=0 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 border=0><tr>
              <td style="padding-right:0px" title ="Home">
            <a href="javascript:TabbedPanels1.showPanel(1);" title="Home" style="background-image:url(../Buttons/Home.png);width:172px;height:75px;display:block;"><br/></a></td>
              </tr></table>
              </li>
    As you see i use Spry tabbed panels. In a tab i put code wich shows a button with mouse over.
    Changing the code so my site would be 100% validated resulted in a broken button.
    The button works but loses its mouseover function.
    This is it now:
    <li class="TabbedPanelsTab">
            <table id="THome" >
              <tr>
                <td style="padding-right:0px" title ="Home"><a href="javascript:TabbedPanels1.showPanel(1);" title="Home" style="background-image:url(Buttons/Home.png);width:172px;height:75px;display:block;"><br/>
                </a></td>
              </tr>
            </table>
          </li>
    I tried everything. When using the code above the validator has errors, when using the one below, i lose mouseover...
    The validator says <style> tag isnt allowed.
    How do i solve this problem? I hope someone can help me out...
    Also i have another problem.
    I searched for safe email forms and hit this site: http://www.webbyzone.com/2010/01/10/make-xajax-phpmailer-contact-forms-work/
    It looks pro but i cant get it working. A little help would be appreciated...
    And i cant get my footer down to the bottom since i used Spry. Any help here also would be nice.

  • FORM AND 'SUB FORM'

    Hi
    I need to have a link (button) to another small form where can select additional values. The form needs to be HTML generated from the footer area of the 'parent' form. I then need to depict values in a combo box (selected from a LOV) - also using MTML / Java script, etc.
    Thanks

  • Can't get Sub-forms to Display in Right order

    Hello there
    I have a strange issue with the positioning of a series of sub-forms using Designer 8.2.1.3144.
    I have the following (schematic) structure
    (Top Level Sub-form)
    Sub-form 1
    Label 1.1
    Label 1.2
    Sub-form 2
    Sub-form 2.1
    Test 2.1.1
    Label 2.1.2
    Sub-form 2.2
    Fragment 2.2.1
    Fragment 2.2.2
    The fragments themselves have the following structure:
    (Top Level Fragment, e.g. Fragment 2.2.1)
    Text F1
    Floating Field F1.1
    Floating Field F1.2
    Label F1
    Sub-form F1
    (Lots of fields and sub-forms)
    The fragments themselves are quite long, typically more than a page. Whatever I do, Sub-form 1 (and its labels 1.1 and labels 1.2) are always shown at the top of the final page in print preview, typically breaking up a fragment. Try as I might, I cannot get them to be placed at the very top of the first page (as per the order in the design). I have tried a variety of ways to address the issue, including changing the positioning (flowed \ positioned etc.), and have played around with the keep with next and Allow page break within context settings, all to no effect.
    Any ideas much appreciated.

    Paul
    Thanks for the offer.
    Rather strangley, I made some obstensibly unrelated changes to these fragments and the issue seems to have gone away.
    Never really got to the root of the problem, but am not going to worry about it unless it reappears.

    Is it possible to create a single texbox? and how to delete a button on a form? please asap, badly needed it right now. thx -regards gustavo

    Hello Gustavo,
    You can create a single textbox using the textbox option here (This is for you to enter text - not for the visitor): http://jingsite.businesscatalyst.com/jing/2013-09-30_2212.png
    If you want to create a textbox for the visitors to enter text, then you need to enter a form, and you can delete the "message" field from the "simple contact" form, but not the name and the email fields (those are mandatory and can't be deleted).
    You may want to check external forms in case you want to have the form rather customized, to check if you can have forms with single textbox. An example would be "Jotform".
    Hope this helps.

  • Is there any way to disable printing in adobe reader in the file menu and ctrl + P, but still be able to print with a button on the form?

    I am creating a form, but want to restrict the printing to function only by using a button on the form itself and not by using ctrl + p or the File menu. Is this possible?

    It is pretty hard to shut off a system level action like the "Crtl/Optn" + P print method. This is a system level feature because it is a standard in all applications. Think about what could happen if you turned off this feature in a given application and that application failed and did not restart this feature.
    Look at the "Will Print" document action. This runs no matter how the print action is started.

  • How do I make a button onj the form which will submit and send the pdf as an email?

    how do I make a button on the form which will submit and send the pdf as an email?

    You can set up a button with a "Submit a form" action and use a mailto type URL to specify the email address you want the forms sent do. If you want to send the entire PDF, select that option and not FDF or anything else. The mailto URL should not include any spaces and the "mailto" part should be lowercase, like:
    mailto:[email protected]
    This will attempt to initiate an email using the users default email client. If the user does not have one set up or there is some other problem, the email might not get initiated. If it needs to work with Reader versions prior to 11, then the form needs to be Reader-enabled, which you do in Acrobat 11 by selecting: File > Save As Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools

  • Is it possible to create a standard form that can be emailed to anyone and once filled out by the receiver, have a button that the receiver clicks and the form is encrypted and attached an email back to the sender and a preset admin password would open it

    Hello Graphicsguy123,
    You would need to first create the form ( or Widget in EchoSign) first to generate a url which you can paste it in the email being sent to customers. You would need to make sure you have a Document Cloud Enterprise Premium account in order to create a Widget. If you don't have the account, you can use the trial version to test it. • Hidden Buttons and Forms Printing CS6

    I'm not exactly sure how to word this but I have buttons and forms that are printing when they are not supposed to.
    This is my indd file:
    If you can see, there are 3 sections, each identical except for the fact that they have different states. If someone wants Hat 2 section, there is a button that turns on the visibility of 2 combo boxes, a text box, 6 check boxes, some normal buttons (just text and art, but they need to be buttons in order to activated with an action), and toggles the view of another button that can add another hat... kinda hard to explain, but think of it like an online form. If you need more info, clicking the button add another row.
    The issue that I'm having is that I do not want the forms that are not being used to be printed. If I don't toggle their visibility, they should be invisible and not print. This form could have anywhere from 1-20 of the forms being used at different times. They are all set to be hidden until triggered and they do exactly what I want them to and it works perfectly, until I go to print.
    This is my exported pdf:
    One row of info, the button to add a second.
    Here is what it looks like when I go to print this without touching anything:
    As you can see in the preview screen, all of the rows that I have made in the indd file are being shown as set to print. This should not be happening, but I figured maybe it was a glitch so I printed it anyway, and this came out:
    ..... Now you can see my issue. Maybe. Hopefully.
    HOWEVER. If I so modify the document, e.g. clck on the "add hat" button and then remove it, the document prints as it should. The problem is that this document will need to be set up so that the entire page is filled with invisible forms that are just waiting to be activated, but not printed.
    Wow that's a lot of info. Hopefully I was clear. Thanks for reading this all if you're still with me.
    Win7 sp1, CS6, InDesign 8.0.1, 12 gigs ram, x64

    I initially jumped to that same conclusion that it was probably a bug in the forms as they are a new feature, but they are not the only objects that are misbehaving. There are only 3 forms in each of the sections and 14 normal buttons, so how can it be an issue with the forms? If that was the probelm, they would be the only objects that were printing incorrectly, unless there is some attribute that would apply the form's settings to all buttons... but I don't know how that's possible.
    @jeffrey_smith
    I tried exporting it as an idml originally, and just tried again since the file has been modified but it didn't make a diffrence in the print. Also, I just created a new very simple test document with just 4 buttons, one that shows the other 3 and it has the exact problem that my document with all of the forms has. So it can't be a corruption in my file, it has to be a broader issue.

  • Forms hiddenfields buttons and css

    Hello,
    Sometimes when I have a few forms along with form buttons
    hotozontially
    close together I find they can have different spacing between
    them. I have
    set both
    form { margin:0;
    padding:0;}
    http://www.theelbow.com/wowa.asp
    but when I have a few hidden field in each form it can make a
    bit of
    space around a button. is there any way I can get rid of that
    space or
    control it. I have made sure there was no speace in the code
    from the forms
    to the buttons and hidden fields but then I get all the
    buttons stuck
    together, I have tried 2 spaces between each button but it
    can end a mess.
    is there any special css i can use to resolve this more
    easily. I would just
    like an even space between each.
    regards
    kenny

    This only seems to happen in PCIE6, not other browers.
    Give each button a unique 'id' NOT 'bloucku' and 'wowablock'
    used again
    and again and again, then float them:
    #bloucku, #wowablock {
    float: left;
    margin-left: 8px;

  • Buttons and text items on oracle forms 6i

    can i create dynamic buttons and text fields on oracle forms 6i.
    i mean when i insert record in database then automatically creat a button on form.
    Regards
    Munawer hussain

    Hi,
    One physical button is enough for a series of "functional buttons" per amount of simultanious visisble buttons. You can change the button prompt at run-time depending on a certain condition. That same condition can also be used when executing the when-button-pressed (wbp) trigger.
    Example:
    suppose you have 2 functions that you want to create buttons for: enter query and execute query. Only 1 button is visible at one time. In design time you create 1 button. In run-time, depending on :system.mode you set the button prompt to "enter query"or "execute query" and in the wbp trigger you write
    begin
    if :system.mode = 'QUERY'
    then
    execute_query;
    else
    enter_query;
    end if;
    end;
    Kind regards
    .
