Buttons with AppleScript

Hello, I am very new with Xcode. I have 2 questions about how to do things via an Cocoa-AppleScript Mac App. First, how can I have the AppleScript do something when a button is pressed on the main window of the app? Also, how can I make the progress bar move when the AppleScript is completing a task? Thank Tou so much for your help.

To do something when a button is pressed you will need to create action handler(s) that get called when the button is pressed, for example:
on doButtonStuff_(sender) -- do stuff when a button is pressed
log sender's title() -- the name of the button
# whatever
end doButtonStuff_
The action handler receives one parameter (the button), and is connected to the desired button(s) in the Interface Editor.
To make a progress indicator move, you will need to break up your task and increment the progress bar each time through the loop - see the NSProgressINdicator Class Reference for available methods. Note that if you are using something like a repeat loop, you will need to add code to handle events so that your user interface gets updated.
I have an example project that uses timers and a progress bar if you want to look at that - it can be downloaded here.

I ended up using key codes to tab using control down to get to it, which works for me.

Dave is correct. Go to Page isn't available in PDF.
Instead, use the Hyperlink panel and select an object or text and choose Create New Destination and give it a name.
Then set the action for the button to be Go to Destination. Select the destination you saved.

Retrieving all UI Elements from window with Applescript

Hi All..
I want to retrieve all the ui elements from one of the window in runtime with Applescript.
The problem is in order to get the elements of the particular window i need to pass thru the hierarchy like UI element 1 of scroll area 1 of window 1 etc..
How do i get the hierarchy at the runtime??
For eg: if the hierarchy level is 3, i can get the UI elemets like.. ui elements of ui elements of ui elements of window 1.. this works fine
but i want to repeat the same statement in loop, till i get some elements, how do i achieve the same??

You will get a button to each line (the last line will be empty).
Here is an example of the result :

Each line is compilable in (osascript or in the Editor) without changing the text even if some of the classes are Raw Code --> «class butT»

Can not add function to pages-document created with Applescript

If I create new document using the GUI (New document) I can place the cursor within any table-cell, type "=" (equal sign) and f.e. "2+2" which will result in a cell showing a "4".
If I create a document with Applescript, I can not add new functions (neither by typing = nor by using Insert >> Function (may be different, I have German version here). Already existing functions (which already were in the template) can still be used and work as expected but can not be altered.
Any idea?
I use Pages '08, Version 3.03

I apologize but the given script can't run.
The variable templateName is undefined.
The variable angebotsNr is undefined too.
About the described behavior, it's a bug which I never discover before.
It's always striking in Pages '09.

Automated report/ PDF conversion with AppleScript

Hello-
I am attempting to PDF a spreadsheet from Dropbox, and email it to a set list of recipients with AppleScript. Much of this I have been able to figure out, but I am having some issues with the PDF conversion. As you can see below, I am still working on sending the xls file, and have not yet been able to get AppleScript to convert a specific tab of the file to aPDF. I expect scheduling to be handled theough crontab.
Current script is as follows:

How to differentiate between Radio Buttons with the same name?

My form has two fields, to which I gave the same name ("Radio Button 1.0") in order to achieve mutual exclusivity.
Now, I would like to use JavaScript to retrieve the value of one the two fields:

What is the proper way to inspect the value of a Radio Button? I have tried this:
if (checkMark.value == "No") [...]
but it doesn't seem to work.
How can I tell apart 2 radio buttons with the same name?

When Radio Buttons and Check Boxes are unchecked their value is "Off", so if you have "Yes", "No" buttons you will also encounter an 'Off" value. Now if you want to look at a given button, you will have to use the "isBoxChecked(nWidget)" method.
nWidget:
The 0-based index of an individual radiobutton or checkbox widget for this field. The index is determined by the order in which the individual widgets of this field were created (and is unaffected by tab-order).
Every entry in the Fields panel has a suffix giving this index, for example MyField #0.
Returns
true if the specified widget is currently checked, false otherwise.
Example

How to add a button with Javascript to Library

Hi
I am using Captivate 5.5 to create a template.
In the files which will be created using this template, we will be adding a button which executes a Javascript. Now, my question is, since this button will be used on multiple slides in the file, can I add this button (with the Javascript) to the library? Currently, we create it manually everytime.
We don't have a programmer in our team, so we can't create widget. Is there an alternative way?

Thanks for that reply.
I now have a blank slide with the button (including the javascript) on it which solves the problem of importing it manually.
However, when we use this template to import PowerPoint presentations, when we publish the file, the first slide (the one on which I have this button) will be blank and has to be manually deleted.
Is there a way to eliminate this manual work? I tried hiding and using some actions. But it was not of any use.

Is there a way to edit IPTC data of an image with AppleScript?

I'm looking for a way to batch-edit the IPTC data from images. Is that somehow possible with Applescript? If so, could someone point me to a direction?

Frank, maybe you could give me a hand here. I'm building the basic script cycling through the dropped files. But I don't know how to best implement the terminal command.
In each cycle, I would set the file path as a variable and then compose the terminal command in order to execute it with "do script".
But "set x to path of eachFile" doesn't work: <<class ppth>> of alias "(path shows here)" could not be read. Any ideas how to do that better?

Help with Applescript - filenames

I hope there is someone who can help me. I have very little experience with Applescript, and have spent a couple of days scouring these forums amongst others without any luck...
I have a folder (titled XLS) with about 1000 excel files in it. They are numbered basen on some parametric calculations (1111.xls, 1112.xls, 1113.xls, etc). I have constructed an Automator rutine which, one at a time, can open each excel file, copy some cells and then paste the data into an empty xml-file in TextWrangler. The empty xml-file is also in the XLS folder.
What I am looking for is an applescript which can rename the open xml-file with the same filename as the xls-file. So, when 1111.xls is open, the xml-file gets renamed 1111-xml; when 1112.xls is open, the xml-file gets renamed 1112-xml, etc. Each new xlm-file is to be saved into a folder XLM, whivh is also in the XLS folder.

Radio Button with Submit Ready Only problem

Hello,
My radio button with submit ready only condition doesn't work correctly. When I click the a link on the first page
it brings me to an update page. I have a radio button with submit, that won't open as a read only.
It is being populated by SQL query, with the Null option selected. When I open the page I don't want the user to be able to edit the field unless they delete records associated with the field. Pretty much I want it to be disabled if the user has a record associated with it.
Here are the queries.

If that is the source of the radiogroup, then it should be:
SELECT OPLAN_IMPACTED_I d, OPLAN_IMPACTED_I r

WHERE DFCY_SEQNO = :P12_DFCY_SEQNOThis should return two values for each radio button - the displayed text and the returned value. If your radios do not have a returned value, then "Yes" will never be found. You can check this by loading the page and doing a View Source on it - search for RADIO and check what "value" attributes they have.

Creating a Save As dialog box with Applescript for Excel 2008

This is going to be part of a larger script. I'm trying to figure out how to make the default save location to where the file opened from and the default file name to the current filename in the dialog box.
Here is what I go so far...

The choose file name command supports a default location parameter that tells it where to open the dialog:
set myFile to choose file name with prompt "Save file as:" default location (alias "Macintosh HD:Users:username:foldername:")
So you need to look at the Excel dictionary to determine the path to the current file and insert it into the script. Every version of Excel has slightly different dictionaries so the version you're running is critical to getting the right syntax.
