Buying ram off ebay

hey im about to proceed on buying a 2 GB ram chip for my 2.16 Hz MacBook Pro
on looking though the Partial Supported List i found that the details matched that of the details on my MacBook pro box
apart from one small difference
on my box it states the '(1P) Part No.' was 'MA609B/A'
on the ebay Partial Supported List it stated a similar number 'MA609LL'
i dont know whether the 'B/A' or 'LL' make a difference
just wanted to ask before i go ahead and purchase
thanks
louis

All MacBooks and MacBook Pros take the same RAM, PC5300 DDR2 667Mhz SODIMMS (Low-voltage, Non- ECC, Unbuffered) so if the specs are right it'll fit.
However, Mac OS X is fussy about RAM so be careful, if you want to be sure try Crucial for guaranteed compatibility.

  • Buy phone off ebay check IMEI to see if locked with icloud

Does apple have a page to check the IMEI of phone to see if the phone is tied and locked to a icloud account?
It would make sense and cut down on alot of aggravation for customers and support calls .
Apple wouldn't need to disclose the Icloud account holder but flag it as yes or no tied to account.

Yes to working , I am still under contract so thats why the phone IS working and I have the max data plan already, I had a galaxy that broke and I purchased the I-Phone off ebay and they said it was under ATT contract so it would work for me and it did, so I am all set correct?

You have to be sure it is not stolen or activation locked

  • Buying iphone off of ebay

Recently, I've been craving over the iphone, and I'm planning on buying one. Do you think it's a good idea buying one off of ebay? Some listings on ebay seem plausible and trustworthy. What do you think?
The new one on the apple site has a hefty price, so I'm opting for the ones on ebay.
Also, am I able to purchase applecare and have warranty on my iphone if I buy an iphone off of ebay?
    Thank you for reading.

The ones on ebay will most likely be more expensive then the ones from Apple Directly.
Applecare can be bought but if the phone is unlocked it will void your Apple Warranty making it null and void. Even if you didnt unlock it, once Apple recieves the phone and sees it was unlocked the will not honor you warranty even if it is due to the past seller

  • Can I Buy A Droid Off Ebay

    Help!
I broke my Droid and was wondering if I could buy one off of EBay and use it on my Verizon account?
    Thanks,
    David

Yes you can. Be sure it is Verizon Branded and get the ESN from teh seller and call into VZW to make sure the phone is not blacklisted due to non payment, or being stolen or for some other reason.
The more phones the seller has sold with a very positive rating, the better chance the sale will be fine.

  • Bad power adaptor... bought machine off ebay!

I just recently bought a used iBook off eBay. Bad idea I know. It seemed like it was too good to be true and it was. The iBook I was sent was not quite what the auction said it was. It came in good cosmetic shape but it was the 800mz model instead of the 900mhz and contained less ram and drive space then advertised. Not to mention I was way over charged for shipping. I already have a G4 eMac and I bought the iBook as a wireless toy basically. The biggest problem I have is that when I received the machine it had little power and died shortly after start up. When I went to plug it in I realized that the wall charger was missing the post inside the end of the cord and would not charge the machine! So I have a new (used) machine I cant not even play with! I did play around with the cord to see If I could turn the light from green to amber and had no luck. I am a little scared becuse while doing so at one point I heard some electrical "Zaps" and smelled something funny. Not good right? Any chance I could have fried a board or something? I just wish I had a good cord to try and charge the thing up with. I am currently fighting with the seller to get some money back to cover ram and a new power cord or I will end up reporting them to eBay and have to return the machine all together. I would kinda like to keep it because it seems to be in such great "cosmetic" shape. Would a place like Radio Shack have a cheap generic cord I could at least try? My Apple Store is about 45 minutes away. Any thoughts, suggestions, or opinions? It's just a bad situation I know. I think I've learned my lesson.
    iBook, 800mhz, G3   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Return the iBook and get your money back, including shipping, although I doubt your seller will take it back.
Report it to eBay and you may get what they allow for fraud protection back. You didn't get what was advertised. Take screen shots of the completed auction to prove what was advertised.
The best idea of all is if you charged it on a credit card through PayPal (that's what I always do), dispute the charge with your credit card company and you won't have to pay for it.
Chances are very good that the adapter tip is broken off in the adapter port. This happened to my husband's adapter, and it almost always damages the power input (DC-in) board to the point that it has to be replaced. While this can be done by DT & T Computer Services for $95 plus shipping both ways to and from Fremont, California, you would also need a new adapter. A third-party adapter can be had for $34.95 plus shipping, but I wouldn't buy something that didn't specifically say it would work with an iBook G3 (Dual USB) or an iBook G4 (an adapter for one will work with the other).
If the seller has lied about so much to you and sent you a defective adapter (at the very least), who knows what else may be wrong with the computer?
Dispute the charge with your credit card company if you can, and tell him he will have to pay you the same exorbitant shipping charge he charged you to get it back.
    Good luck.

  • Just purchased Logic Studio Academic Version off ebay.  serial code is invalid. HELP!!!!

I just purchased Logic Studio (academic version) off ebay.  It was only 200$.  When i received it, it was factory sealed and everything, and had the serial number.  However, when I entered the number it consistently gave me the "serial number is invalid".  I know its not any problems with how I entered the code, because I checked all my 0's and O's and 1's and L's.  I also entered it about 30 times.  I'm kind of freaking out.  Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? Or am i just screwed?....

You could call AppleCare or Customer Support...

  • New Phone off Ebay

Just purchased the BlackBerry Curve 8330 off Ebay and when I received it realized none of the CD's that I needed didn't come with it.  I cannot access the web without them, at least thats what Verizon told me when I called them.  Is there any downloads that I can do or bring my phone to the store and they can assist me????  What am I suppose to do now with this phone... I'm  paying for the data/web/etc.   I know I  probably shouldn't have bought a phone off ebay, but now thats a moot point... any help would be great!!  Thanks.... Rachel

Make sure that your device is not locked.
Go to Options - Advanced Options - SIM Card
Now type on keyboard (typed symbols won't be shown on display): MEPD
    You will see a list.
And if phone is unlocked there will be Disabled word shown for every list position.
If there is at least one Active word shown then your device is Locked.
And you need to unlock it.
Buy an unlock code online to unlock your BlackBerry device.
Regarding CD that comes with device.
You can download BB Desktop Manager (it is written on the CD) here:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
Find Blackberry desktop software v. 4.7 without Media Manager and download it.

    Hi,

Before buying a second-hand computer, you should have run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, whichever is applicable.
The first thing to do after buying the computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You—not the original owner—must do that. Changes made by Apple over the years have made this seemingly straightforward task very complex.
How you go about it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
It's unsafe, and may be unlawful, to use a computer with software installed by a previous owner.
    1. If you don't own another Mac
    a. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller—not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine is very old and has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
    b. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for a MacBook Air. You should have received the media from the original owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To start up from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then restart the computer and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
    c. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should start up in Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    d. Some 2010-2011 models shipped with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, enabling them to use Internet Recovery. If you have one of those models, you can't reinstall 10.6 even from the original media, and Internet Recovery will not work either without the original owner's Apple ID. In that case, contact Apple Support, or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to have the OS installed.
    2. If you do own another Mac
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to prepare a USB device, then start up the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can start from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
    3. Partition and install OS X
    a. If you see a lock screen when trying to start up from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
    b. Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive—not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the  Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
    c. An unusual problem may arise if all the following conditions apply:
OS X 10.7 or later was installed by the previous owner
The startup volume was encrypted with FileVault
You're booted in Recovery mode (that is, not from a 10.6 installation disc)
In that case, you won't be able to unlock the volume or partition the drive without the FileVault password. Ask for guidance or see this discussion.
    d. After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically restart into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
    e. Run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the original owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed—you have to repurchase them.
    4. Other issues
    a. If the original owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're irrevocably linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
    b. If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
    c. When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a lifetime limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an iCloud account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information. The setup limit doesn't apply to Apple ID accounts used for other services, such as the iTunes and Mac App Stores, or iMessage. You can create as many of those accounts as you like.

  • Bought a brand new sealed MBP off ebay but it has build defects, will Apple replace?

I recently bought a brand new sealed macbook pro from ebay from a top rated seller for £835 which was a good price considering it is was sealed etc. When I opened the box and took a real close look at the machine I noticed a few serious build faults.....
    1. This is the most serious, when the laptop is closed the left side of the laptop is noticeably bent as if its been molded wrong or something, there are no impact marks whatsoever.
    2. The track pad is supposed to be flush but mine dips slightly on the left side which is evident when you look closely and run your finger around the edge of the track pad.
    3. There are two small scratches on the right side of the macbook.
    4. The bottom plate is also supposed to be completely flush with the case but like the track pad mine is defective, it is flush on the right but not on the left.
One of the main reasons I went for a mbp is because of the reputation for quality, I bought this laptop from a reputable seller who has a very high feedback score and multiple comments from happy users who bought the same laptop I did, so I definitely know he was not selling faulty stock.
I rang Apple today and they said that they could not offer me a replacement as I bought it from a third party but they made an appointment at a store for tomorrow...
My question is .... do these defects fall under poor workmanship from Apple and should I be entitled to a replacement. The laptop was literally brand new and the warranty on it was registered on the 16th april by me on the day I received it..... I emailed the seller who then rang me within 20 minutes and he advised me to take it to an apple store and they will replace it as its not something that can be repaired. Please give me some advice. All advice is welcome.
    Thank you for reading

First of all, if you would have bought that from Apple, you would have got a replacement right away--no questions asked. I just bought a new MacBook Pro and could have got it cheaper off eBay too, but i didn't want to go though a hassle like you are now.
Apple will repair it. The only way they will replace it, is if they can't get it fixed after 3 repair attempt. Keep all your case numbers. If for any reason you are not satisfied in the end, call Apple Customer Relations and deal with them--not support. Good luck!

  • HT201328 I purchased an iphone off ebay but because of the ios activation lock it won't alloe me to put in my own apple id it tells me to enter the previous owners apple account is there anything i can do?

I purchased an iPhone off eBay and the phone isn't stolen or anything but it has the activation lock on it where it says "this phone is linked to an apple account (****@****.edu) I tried contacting the seller and they thought restoring the phone would remove that but its hasn't any idea what I can do or am I screwed and I need to get my money back

The iOS activation lock is a new feature that will be introduced in iOS 7, and is currently only something that can be used as part of the iOS 7 beta. The activation lock is exactly what the name suggests, it's a lock to prevent activation. This is done so that if the device is stolen, it can't be used. There is no work around you can do on your end, the only way it can be done is for the original owner to remove this device from his "find my iPhone" settings, which he can only do by giving you his appleID login details.
As activation lock is part of iOS 7 developer preview beta, you might get more information at the developer forums however it's more than likely you got ripped off
