BW 3.5 Upgrade to 7.0 ( ABAP OO upgrade required ? )

We are planning to upgrade from BW 3.5 to 7.0.
Are we required to upgrade/modify all our ABAP code in the start routines/update rules/transfer rules to the new ABAP Object Oriented code ?
Would it be possible to migrate all the 3.5 BW objects to 7.0 and leave the ABAP code alone.
Going forward , we would like to use the new ABAP OO for future routines.
Any documentation would be great !

Our plan is do initially do a technical upgrade so that we can migrate all 3.5 objects to 7.0. So in this case we won't need to change the ABAP code.
But once the technical upgrade is done, we want to leverage the new 2004s functionality (i.e. dataflow, transformations, new type datasources) . In this case we will start writing routines for these 7.0 objects in the new ABAP 00 code.
I guess my question is can both types of ABAP code live simultaneously or do I to convert the ABAP code in the 3.5 objects to the new ABAP OO.

From the exception above, it can be seen that the AppIntegrator iView is trying to run on the "SAP_LocalSystem" where it should be running on a "real" backend system.
Please check what is the System alias in this iView and make sure it points on a backend system which has the same alias in the Portal System landscape.

Upgrading a kernel in ABAP or Java - what is correct for 7.01 and 7.1

There are a couple ways to upgrade a kernel depending on ABAP or Java.
I want to know what is the best safest and approved way to upgrade an ABAP kernel based on 7.01 and 7.1
I don't want to miss with temporary softlinks because our consultant did that and forgot abut it, which cause a huge problem.
This is a UNIX 64 bit OS.

Just make sure to check the following points before starting the upgrade :-
1) Take full backup of existing Kernel directory
   After taking full backup of old kernel directory, check the total no. of files in the backup kernel directory by #ls -al|wc -l & cross check same files exist in the orginal kernel directory. This should be done before starting actual kernel upgrade - just to ensure that after wiping out current kernel dir and then after applying new kernel if there is any issue & you have restore the old kernel then you are not missing any files.
2) Check the softlinks in the existing kernel directory & keep a screenshot so that after kernel upgrade you can create those links.
Use #ln -s <remote filesystems to be linked> <local file at Kernel directory>
    e.g : 3> ln -s a b
     sapsys 1 Aug 26 09:34 b -> a
    Thus if you wish then you can create those softlinks manually. This may be required for brtools, TSM etc related softlink depending on your scenario you can recreate the links.

I am new to this fascinating world of BASIS and to this forum. This is my second post:
The situation is I need to upgrade the ABAP stack of my ECC 6.0 (dual stack) system from patch level 14 to 17.
Thus now, what are the things that I should need to consider, that is:
Do I need any Kernel Upgrade, or individually the component upgrades will do?
Any SPAM upgrade required?

1. For patching the system, ensure you have a complete backup of the system.
2. Its safer and best to patch the kernel always before starting patching so that your tp and R3Trans are updated.
3. Patch the tool SPAM to the latest level before starting the patching of the other components.
4. Now you can patch the rest of the components either individually or put all of them in 1 stack and patch them at 1 go.

Firefox has suddenly gone wrong. I was successfully running both Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7. My laptop is new and has plenty of RAM and HDD. I auto-accept upgrades including the most recent Firefox upgrade and the suggested upgrade to Adobe Flash 10.1. But after this, Firefox stopped working and does not work when I re-load Firefox 3.6. Also IE8 now works very slowly and does not locate major websites like Microsoft without a 'can't find the website message' and having to pressing Return a second time. When I do get to the Mozilla website and click on the button to try to download Firefox 3.6.6, I get this message "Oops! Internet Explorer could not find mozilla3.snt.utwente.nl". Can you help with what has gone wrong? As it stands, I can't use Firefox at all. Note: because Firefox did not work after the upgrade, I've downloaded the IE8 version of the Adobe Flash 10.1. What I really want is to be able to use both Firefox and IE8. But is this possible if they use different versions of Adobe Flash?

I have been having the same problem as the original poster. After upgrading to Ffx 3.6.6, the program asks you to upgrade to Flash Player Plugin 10.1. I download and installed 10.1 only to find videos weren't loading.
In my case, the problem is the previous installation of Flash Player (9.0.47) was somehow messing things up. To fix this, because I already had Flash plugin 10.1 installed I had to uninstall 10.1 using the uninstaller from adobe and then manually remove any files related the old flash player plugin 9.0.47
Here is a run-down of my process:
0. To check if you have a previous installation of the Flash Plugin lurking around, in Firefox go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins (tab). At this point you may seen both Flash plugins.
1. Proceed to uninstall Flash Plugin 10.1. Adobe provides an uninstaller here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
( you have to make sure you have nothing running when you execute the installer).
2. On my Mac (sorry I don't know what it is in Windows) I searched the hard drive for any files/folders with "Shockwave". I found a folder called "Shockwave 10". It wasn't removed by Adobe's uninstaller. For safety I deleted it and then emptied the trash.
3. I then went to My HD -> Library -> Internet Plugins.
Remove the file and folder named "Flash player.old"
4. Restarted; ran the Adobe Flash Player 10.1 installer. Restarted again.
5. Opened up ffx and double checked the plugins list (see step 1). Version 10.1 is installed and available. Went to problem sites to test it out and Success!

After upgrading to Yosemite, I had to upgrade my iPhoto, now the full res versions of my images cannot be found.

I had created a book to print (before upgrade) but, after the upgrade the book can't be created as I get the message that images can't be found. However, if I search for the filename I can find the image. I tried repairing library as per support instructions but it hasn't helped. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks.

Do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
2 - apply Option #4, Rebuild Database.

Question is...how do i upgrade the photo library?

You can't back up an open iPhoto...
Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

I have windstream as an isp. Since your upgrade from 4.0, and their upgrade, my computer is very slow, drops, freezes and to be frank, a pain in the back side. It was better with 4.0. Can I go back?? I need help!

I have contacted Windstream and they say it is not their fault, but they also said that they were having problems with other customers. I can get to the email via IE, My computer is a Dell 3200 Inspirion and is and was very fast, enough so for me, but when you have to wait 2 minutes for an email to open, . To be honest, it could be something or a program that has infected my computer, but I have run Norton anti virus and it see's nothing. First upgrade Aperture2 to 3 or first upgrade my OS ?

I’m using a MacBookPro with Intel Core2Duo 2,93Ghz, 8GB of RAM, operating system still on Leopard 10.5.8 and Aperture version 2.1.4.
Masterphoto’s (about 200 GB) are stored on a external harddrive with FW800 (raid system, and backup on separate harddrive) and imported in Aperture library as referenced files.
When Aperture 3 came out I bought the upgrade directly, but due to all problems I read, never upgraded to Aperture3.
Now I’m considering upgrading to Aperture3 again, but also want to upgrade my MBP to Snow Leopard.
What’s the best I can do?
First upgrading to Snow Leopard, and afterwards upgrading Aperture? I did read some users had problems with Aperture 2.1.4 running under Snow Leopard, so I am not sure about this option.
Other posibility: first upgrade Aperture from version 2.1.4 to 3.0 (under the Leopard OS), and afterwards upgrade Leopard to Snow Leopard (and maybe Lion). But I’m also not sure about this option too, because many of you did have problems (hanging systems etc) with the Aperture upgrade in the beginning.
I already did make a backup of my master photo’s on a seperate (2nd) harddrive, and also have two seperate vault backups of the Aperture library (containing the adjustments, keywords etc).
Hope you can help me with this decission, because I am not a real whizzkid, and when problems appear during the upgrade process I will feel lost quick.

Just remember that the postings you read here (or any similar board) are by definition from people having problems. Folk don't write in normally to say how easy and simple it was to upgrade. Or that there were no problems.
Aperture 3 has been, for me anyway, remarkably robust. I did have some issues early on on a systems that was short of memory but once that was resolved it has been fine. And I do some pretty bizarre things to my libraries (test libraries not my working libraries) in order to try and learn more about the program or to try and answer questions here.
I'm not saying that you might not run into issues but if you go slowly, pay attention and follow all directions you should be fine. And as I wrote before just make sure you have a working backup. Knowing you have a working backup and knowing how to restore is really liberating. You can proceed knowing that if a meteor falls through your roof just as you hit the return key to start the upgrade the worst thing will be the singed tail on the cat.
You're backup plan sounds fine just make sure all the elements in the plan are working. The time to find out something didn't backup as you thought it did is not when you need it to restore your system. Part of any backup plan has to include an occasionally restore from the backups just as you would do in the event of a real problem.
I know it's time consuming and not much fun but it has to be done.
Keep in mind that once you upgrade to 3 the vaults made with 2 won't be of much help. So has soon as you upgrade Aperture and your libraries create new vaults.

Hi, you need 10.6.8 first...
First you need to research all the problems people are having with the higher OSX versions, & make sure you have a bootable clone of what you have just in case.
then you must get 10.6, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.

How did you move your iPhoto library to the new system? the recommended way is Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) or use an external hard drive formed Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.
