BW 7 Remodeling tool

Hello gurus!
I have a doubt about remodeling tool.... I need to change the dimensions in one infocube, it is possible to use the remodeling tool without delete data for changing the infocube dimensions? or the remodeling is only for delete characterisc or kyf...
We have to change dimension, delete some characterics and added in another dimensions... is it possible? or it is necessary to delete data?
Thanks a lot
BR

Hi
Remodelling is used to enhance the existing infocube . we can handle the following below scenario with remodelling:
1)Add a characteristic
2) Replace a charactersitic
3) Delete the characteristic
4) Add a keyfigure
5) Replace a keyfigure
6)Delete a keyfigure
we can perform the above operation with out deleting the data in the infocube but better to take the back up of the infocube data.
Thanx & Regards,

  • Use of Remodeling tool in BI 7.0

    Hi,
Can any one list the uses of the Remodeling tool in BI 7.0.
    Because the question is :
when we can remove or delete or replace the required InfoObject  in an Infoprovider( in particular a cube) we take the backup of the data in another cube, do the required changes in the old cube and then create the Data transfer pipeline { Export DS, update rules/Transformations( including the required transformation for the new InfoObject ), etc..} form the backup cube. we will do the same with the Remodeling tool also(make changes by taking the backup), then why we need a separate tool to perform the same task.
    please list all uses.
    Best Regards,
    Sreeni.

  • Remodeling - Adding Time Characteristics

I am attempting to add several time 0CAL* characteristics into my infocube through remodel.  I currently have 0CALMONTH and 0CALDAY in my InfoCube.  I am attempting to add 0CALWEEK, 0CALMONTH2, and 0CALQUARTER
In the remodeling object can I perform a 1:1 mapping with 0CALDAY to populate them or do I need a user exit to populate the values of these new time characteristcs?
If I do need a user exit does anyone know where I can find some code for this specific time transformation.
Also, everywhere I see mention of Backup you data 1st.   This is thrown out there like it's some simple task to back up an infocube and restore if problems arise.  Can someone mention how they would backup their cube data?
    Thanks,

    Calender Month   = CALENDER_DAY+4(02).
Quarter can be derived using cal month.

  • Remodelling Toolkit - Limitations - Time Dependencies

    Hello All,
I have gone the new functionality and am a little unclear on the adding of time dependent attributes into an existing infocube.  I can see where the option is available to add the attribute of an object, but there is no reference to the related 'time' infoobject.
For example, for the infocube that I am looking to add the new datapoints, there are a number of date type fields.  I need to select a specific one.
    Please advise.
    Robert

    Robert,
        Welcome to SDN!
You can add time dependant Attributes through Customer Exit in Remodelling Tool Box.
You can select any field or infoobject in the Cube to add the attributes. But, you can't use Charecterstic which was assigned Line Item Dimension.
You want to add one charecterstic X which can be retrived using another charecterstic Y that already existing in the Cube, charecterstic X can be added into same Dimension Table where Y is assigned.
Let me know if you have any Question.

  • User exit for remodelling

    Hi all,
I am trying to use the remodelling tool to add a characteristic 0CALMONTH to a cube. I want to load this by mapping this to another characteristic DocDate. This DocDate characteristic is in a different dimension and hence I have to use a user exit. I was wondering if any one had similar code samples which I could use? I cannot clearly understand what the SAP sample exit is doing. Thanks.

    Hi Nagesh,
I have never used remodelling exit tool but just an small regular idea,as we are using IF_RSCNV_EXIT interface exit for remodelling if you keep 'break-<b>username</b>'  or 'break-point' in between your code ,when you started processing your remodelling I think that process will get stopped at that beak point.

    Hi,
Remodeling is one of the good feature in BI.
This helps in remodeling your Infoprovider, when its filled with data.
You can add characteristics and key figures in BW 3.5 without deleting data in the infocube, but you can't remove them without deleting all data first.
Deleting data is also needed when you change dimensions.
If you dont need any history data you can just add the keyfigure in Edit Mode. The corrresponding update rules may get deactivated and you may have to reactivate them again.

Process Instance (SID) (0TCTINSTSID) and want to create another new dim whic will be a line Item dim and will ad dthe char as Line item char . because the DIm/Fact ratio is 96% in the cube .  The chars are in the existing dimension is BW System,Process Chain ID,Process Chain LOG ID,Process Type,Process Variant,Object Version .
Please let me know your view and also is it possible to chage the dimension and add new dimension ?

    Hi
This is not possible through remodelling. Please see this http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_04/helpdata/EN/9b/0bc041f123c717e10000000a155106/frameset.htm.
For your requirement , you will have to delete the data and make changes to the existing flow. But you should take care of all the issues that might come up with this changes.

  • Database view to cube

    Hi
I have one cube FULL OF DATA,lets say,XYZ which gets data from three different dataflows(each starting from its own database view>own DSO>same cube XYZ) and this cube is included in Multiprovider which is live.
Now I have request to bring data from new view to same cube and create new report.
So I am going to create new database view, new datasource and new DSO and connect this DSO to same cube XYZ.This cube contains all fields brought by this view except one new keyfigure. So I will add this keyfigure to cube and multiprovider.
    Then I create reports.
I am thinking of doing like below:
    1.Create new keyfigure  infoobject
    2.Create datasource based on view
    3.Create DSO
4.Create Transformation between Datasource and DSO
5.Add this new keyfigure to Cube and activate it and also activate all dependent objects on cube which got inactivated
6.Create transformations between DSO and cube
7.Choose this new keyfigure in Multi and activate it.
    8.Create reports.
Is there anything I forgot which may create problem since this Cube is full of data and live?Any suggestions.
    Regards.

    Hi,
If you are using BI 7.0 data flow there should not be any issue adding a new key figure in the cube with data in it using Remodelling tool. Buw if you are using BW3.5 or lower version you will need to create a backup cube and then empty the original cube before remodelling the cube as remodelling is not allowed with data in BW3.5.

Now i need to make a multiprovider with this standard cube and another one new DSO. But i wish to add a new infoobject to the standard cube, without affecting the production. Because it has being used for so many areas.
How to add a infoobject to that std cube?

  • Dates - Creating an InfoObject with W/E Buckets

    Hi Guys,
I have 'Pricing Date' in an DSO and I want to create a 'bucket' of weeks for a range of pricing dates. When the user runs the queries, they will have a variable to enter a range of Pricing Dates and the output will be the 'bucket weeks' for those dates eg. run for 30/10/07 - 21/11/07 and the report shows w/e 3/11/07, 10/11/07 etc with values below this.
I was thinking of a new InfoObject for 'Weeks' in the Cube, that will hold the w/e ending date, and will link to the 'Pricing Date' in the Transformation. Would this solution work and if so, can someone help me with the code?
    Thanks
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
    you 3 alternatives.
1st: create a hierarchy on your pricing date. As nodes you enter the 'bucket weeks' and assign the relevant dates to it. Maintain the hierarchy into the past as wide as required and into the future...
2nd: use your idea of adding a new field. In a routine you need to call fm DATE_COMPUTE_DAY with the pricing date and check the result. The fm will return the weekday as 0 - 6 for sunday until saturday. So with that you can easily calculate your 'bucket week'. But remember, you need to reload your cube to have that information available for the already posted data. If you are running bi7.0, you might use the remodelling tool for that and there is no need to reload.
3rd: to avoid a reload, just add a field for the 'bucket week' to the cube. Use it as virtual characteristic and derive the value at query runtime by implementing the same fm....
    kind regards
    Siggi

  • 7.0: Changing InfoCube: Empty in DEV, filled in PRD

    Hi all,
what happens in 7.0 when you change the structure (dimensions) of an empty InfoCube, which is empty in the development environment but filled in QA and production?
Will the transport request fail? Will the remodelling tool be applied in the background? Are there any limitations to consider? Will historic data be correctly aligned?
    Many thanks!
    Gerrit
PS: The structural changes I am referring to are:
    - moving characteristics from one dimension to another (i.e. adding and deleting).
    - creating new dimensions

  • Adding characteristic

    Hi'.
I have added a new characteristic to an infoprovider and assigned it to a new dimension. When I transport this correction to our QA system, I get an error stating : <b>"InfoCube contains data; intentional changes not permitted"</b>.
I have found an OSS message(934250) which adresses issues around changing line item dimensions (which I haven't) but also adresses an issue regarding partitioning of infocube. We have not partitioned the cube, so I have no clue on what to do as deleting data and reloading is out of the question due to the amount of data. Can anyone help me out on this? I am on a 3.0B system using Oracle.
    KR Michael

    Hi
You can add charecteristics but after adding the charecteristics you need to do the following
Remove the data in the cube
Reload the data into the cube after the addition of the charecteristics
In Bi7, there is an option called remodelling tool which enables you to add charecteristics without removing the cube data. In all lower versions you have to remove data and reload to capture the records for the newly added charecteristics

  • Load data to a modified InfoCube and ODS used in Production

    Hi,
I have added few fields (InfoObjects) to the cube(s) and DSOs in BI 7.0. These Cubes and DSOs are BW 3.5 Objects and are in-use in Production.
My question: After I transport this new/enhanced InfoCube and DSO from Dev/Qua to Production, how to retrieve the old data from original Cube/DSO and populate data to new fields at DSO and Cube level.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    ~S

    Hi Siddhartha Nayak
As ur enhanced the IC & ODS which r 3.x objects, i guess u havn't used the remodeling tool. Then u have to follow the old procedure to enhancing the cube.
Create a copy cube , Delete the contents of existing cube, enhance it & load the data to existing cube back from copy cube.
Same thing u have to follow in ur case also.
    Regards,
    Shaiksha.
