Remodeling - Adding Time Characteristics

I am attempting to add several time 0CAL* characteristics into my infocube through remodel.  I currently have 0CALMONTH and 0CALDAY in my InfoCube.  I am attempting to add 0CALWEEK, 0CALMONTH2, and 0CALQUARTER
In the remodeling object can I perform a 1:1 mapping with 0CALDAY to populate them or do I need a user exit to populate the values of these new time characteristcs?
If I do need a user exit does anyone know where I can find some code for this specific time transformation.
Also, everywhere I see mention of Backup you data 1st.   This is thrown out there like it's some simple task to back up an infocube and restore if problems arise.  Can someone mention how they would backup their cube data?
Thanks,

Calender Month   = CALENDER_DAY+4(02).
Quarter can be derived using cal month.

  • Remodeling a time characteristic in a cube - Doesn't allow??

I have a cube containing time characteristic 0CALWEEK.  I would like to use the remodeling toolkit so i can write some custom user exit code to replace the values in this field based on logic.  However I am not allowed to select this field!!  Why doesn't SAP allow you to remodel (change values) in any of the time characteristics in a cube??  Is there any way around this?
    Thanks, Peggy

You are close to my issue.  This is a regular basic cube.  (no non-cumulative)
It contains snapshots of an 18 month plan (future dates).  We have over 2 years of snapshots.  Last year the source system sending us the plan data used a calendar that handled the weeks of 2010 differently than the SAP calendar.  (SAP buckets the first 10 days of 2010 in week 1; whereas our company only used first 3 days of 2010 as week 1).
Anyway, we have about 100 million records in these snapshots to adjust the calendar week to match up with the SAP calendar week.
All we wanted to do was to use  the remodeling toolkit on the 0calweek field and choose "replace characteristic" and populate with a bit of ABAP code.  However we are not allowed to pick any time characteristics.
We know we could always use the old standard ways to move data around to dummy cubes and fix, but that takes hours of processing for all the data we have to do.  (actually about 10 cubes this size).
So we are testing the remodeling toolkit by adding a new characteristic that "references" ocalweek and using Abap to populate that the way we want.  We can move the queries over to the new field.  That seems to be working and fast since work is done using Oracle level commands, instead of data packet by data packet.
Do you have any other ideas?
    Thanks much!

  • Question on Time Characteristics across Applications

Hi, I'm wondering how TIme Characteristics should be modeled across 2 different applications like Sales and Financials.  For example take Sales Reporting which is based on Calendar and a FI Reporting application based on Fiscal.  If I wanted to report on the 2 providers I would need like time characteristics.
Should the Sales Providers contain all of the Calendar Time Characteristics(9) and the FI Providers contain all of the Fiscal and Calendar Time Characteristics(13)?  This is about 13 Characteristics which seems excessive for the time dimension?  Any other comments on this topic are greatly appreciated!

    Hi, Thanks for the reply.
I am trying to get a feel whether I should be comfortable adding both Calendar and Fiscal Time Characteristics in an InfoCube.  (That's about 13 Characteristics in the Time Dimension).
We would be having a MultiProvider wtih both sales and FI data so I need like time characteristics to tie the data together.  Our FI Data is alway reported as Fiscal, and we report our Sales Data on Calendar.  So if I need to report FI data combined with Sales Data I would also need to have the Calendar Time Characteristics in the FI Cube.
So does this scenario sound correct?
    Thanks,

  • Time characteristics in ODS

When using time characteristics in an ODS definition (such as 0CALDAY), does that time characteristic need to be a key field in the ODS to be used in subsequent time routines?
I have 0CALDAY as a data field in the ODS, and the time routines in my infocube update rules do not appear to be working.  In other words, I do not get any rollup of results in the cube.
I've tried the formula builder without any luck.  However, I do get this to work if I build a new ODS with 0CALDAY in the key field and not the data field.  The problem is we have 150 million records already loaded in the ODS for other purposes.
    Thanks
    Chad

    Hi Chad,
Key fields of ODS determine how data is summed up during a load. You may set add or overwrite option which works for a unique combination of key fields.
If you want to keep separately distinct records and not allow them to be added/overwritten, you must have in the key fields the appropriate separator.
It might be 0CALDAY or, for example, document number (if you have it).
Without it, you'll either loose information (overwriting) or get it too aggregated (addition).
    Best regards,
    Eugene

  • Can't find time characteristics

    Hi,
I have a MultiProvider which is on 2 ODSes. I can't find any time characteristics in the MultiProvider. And when I am building a query I can't find the time dimension either.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks
    SAPBW

    Your Question is:
I can't find the time characteristics 0FISCPER in the ODS.
Where do we find them, like the way we see them under Time Characteristics when we DISPLAY the InfoCube.
    My Answer is:
In ODS ,automatically 0FISCPER will be appearing only if at least one of yr characteristics present in the ODS is of type time dependent
Moreover you could also pick 0FISCPER  from the template visible in left hand side of the ODS screen and then include it in ODS (data field)
let me know if still you are unanswered.

  • Problems with time characteristics after migration to BI 7.0

    Hi,
Our company migrated from BW 3.1 to BI 7.0 Netweaver 2004s recently.
After the migration we have problems with various time characteristics like 0CALMONTH, 0CALQUARTER, etc. in the Query Designer.
In the old BW3.1 Query Designer version we could choose at the properties of an time characteristic to display Key, Key and Text, Text and so on. After the migration to BI 7.0 we now can only choose Key.
The InfoObject definion of the time Characteristics in RSD1 is the same in the old version and in the new version.
I am very  grateful vor every hint how i can show again the other display options in the properties, so that our powerusers can build their queries in the way they are use too.
    Thanks
    Ralph Nist

    Hi Pom,
thanks for your answer, but we are on FEP 10 already.
    So must be something else.
    Cheers

  • Limited Support for Time characteristics 0FISCPER/0CALMONTH/0CALQUARTER

The time characteristics 0FISCPER/0CALMONTH/0CALQUARTER are converted into Character type value in Universe which results in following problems on switching to Webi based reporting from current SAP BI front end tools.
Problem 1: Sorting does not work correctly using the Key Value or Description as both are being treated as Character values. While setting up the Custom sort sounds like a workaround, the sort list has to be generated for all possible months/quarter/year combination that will be seen in the reports. Not a good solution when business analysts has to build their own reports from Universe.
Problem 2: Using range selections (E.g. between, greater than, less than etc) in Universe conditions/prompts does not yield correct results due to the same fact that all values are treated as characters. Possible workaround is use this kind of conditions in BI query variables directly. But, this does reduce the flexibility of selections a lot, especially when users are used to simple ways of making range selections in BEx.
Problem 3: keying in the prompt values for these characteristics/dimensions (both Key and text) is very cumbersome due to format issues. E.g. 1/2010 is no more recognized as valid fiscal period. You have to enter key value as K4/001/2010 or Text value JAN 2010 or January 2010 (based on text selected in query/infoobject). Only way of simplifying user input is to use LOVs and let users always select from LOVs. But, the users lose ability to simply key in values.
Problem 4: The default LOVs generated for Fiscal period takes values from the master data and hence might show all available fiscal periods including special periods 00,13 thru 16 etc. even though they may not be relevant to the underlying report (e.g. a Sales report). This can confuse users who are not used to seeing these periods before. Possible workaround is to apply filters on LOV using condition and in some cases this should fix the problem.
While some of the workaround for above problems sound acceptable (3 & 4), the others are not in my opinion(unless there is a better workaround anyone else have). My question is to experts from SAP is, can we expect better support for these objects in future Service packs? If not, then perhaps we need to move away from using this objects in reporting and use 0FISCPER3, 0CALMONTH2, 0CALQUART1 in combination with 0FISCYEAR/0CALYEAR to overcome above issues.
Though  this can mean  (1) good amount of backend changes to include these Infoobjects in underlying Infoproviders, if there are not present already (2) User training to explain them to use these new time char fields instead of the ones they are already used to.
I'm fairly new to BO and might have overseen somethings. I have already searched the BO forum related to this topic and did not find any satisfactory answers. Any input on this is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sree

The issue is that these InfoObjects are not Data Type DATS in BI, they are NUMC and PERI7. Only InfoObjects of type DATS will be converted to Date format in the BO universe.
    Workarounds:
    - instead of using these time characteristics to filter results, consider using transaction dates, such as posting date.
    - create a customer InfoObject ZFISCPER which is a transformation of 0FISCPER to DATS data type.
    - create a custom variable in the WEBI reports which looks at the key for 0CALMONTH and only considers the first 2 characters which should identify the month (e.g. 01 = January, etc.). You can then sort on this and it avoids the year concatenation issue (e.g. JAN 2008, JAN 2009, JAN 2010).

  • Append two files with added time stamp

    Hi experts,'
MY Requirement is I need to pick two files from two different FTP Locations and append them to file receiver FTP Location with Added timestamp.
How to achive this as with append we do not get option of adding time stamp.
Other thing is I want all the appended files should be there  in Receiver folder means like if we get two files today they should be appended to one and shld be put in Receiver folder then two files for tomorrow and they shoud be appended as a separate file in Receiver Folder.
    How to achive this??

    Hi Nidhi,
    >>MY Requirement is I need to pick two files from two different FTP Locations and append them to file receiver FTP Location with Added timestamp
Use BPM and pick the two files

Use variable substitution and create the directory and filename dynamically...
Use Dynamic configuration module in receiver adapter and do as specified in this blog:

  • Tex variable: Cell Function with 2 time characteristics?

    Hi BW experts,
I have to use cell functions in our query because of cell references in the definition.
There are two time characteristics used in the query:
<b>0calweek</b> for reporting horizon and <b>zcalweek</b> for week of data loading
Also I have text variables in the structure for displaying cal week (10.2007 for example). However, the text variables can't be displayed correctly. I assue the reason is we have 2 time characteristics for cal week.
Does anyone have the same experience? Is there any workaround to resolve this delima?
Thanks for your help in advance!
    Regards,
    Sally

    Hi Olivier,
many thanks for your feedback and help!
    1. zcalweek is not referencing 0calweek ;-(
    2. in the cell, I have to restrict the KF with two values:
one is the reporting week (<b>0calweek</b>), for example 17.2007.
the other one is the week of data loading (<b>zcalweek</b>), for example 10.2007.
the text variable should be displayed with the reporting horizon (0calweek).
If I unerstood correctly from your message, there is no workaround for my problem?!
    thanks for your further inputs.
    Regards,
    Sally
P.S. now the text variable is shown as &var&

  • Not appearing in Time characteristics tab

    Hi friends,
    I have created   Z_FISCPER,   Z_REFYTO,  Z_LOADDAT as time characteristics.
But I am unable to see these fields in time characteristics tab in Info object list. But it is viewable in the characteristics tab. My problem is I am unable to create infocube, since I want to take these time characteritics in the time dimension. It is not accepting whenever I drag these fields to Time dimension area.( in BI 7.0)
Please give suggesions, since it is most urgent.
    babu.

    hi Babu,
You cannot assign non-standard characteristics to the time dimension. If you want to include the new time characteristics to the cube do the following.
    1) Drag them to the Characteristics tab.
    2) assign to dimension Additional time characteristics
map them to the date characteristics in update rule.

  • Deriving Time Characteristics from Date fields in ODS View

    Hi,
I am creating ODS Views using HANA calculation views.
is there any direct approach to derive time characteristics like cal week, cal quarter, cal month, calmonth 2, fiscal year, cal year etc from date fields?
    work around:
Deriving them in HANA view in calculated columns and mapping them to IO created with respective time characteristics as reference.
is there any standard and easy to use approach for this??
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Ravi,
Insteod deriving them in the ODS view you can derive them in tha Calculation View in SAP HANA itself using Time Dimention concept.

  • F4 Values for Time Characteristics

    Hello,
in F4 on the variable screen of queries for Time Characteristics (like 0CALMONTH) I get all kinds of nonsense entries like: 07.004 or 06.0420
Since I want to get only F4 entries booked in the InfoProvider ... where can I make this setting?
The query is based on an ODS.
    Thanks for your help,

Hi try it in InfoObject level.
    <b>See the followin link
    Reporting question
Dbl click on InfoObject and open Business Explorar tab and there you can find
    Query Def. Filter Value Selection

  • Multiple values for Time Characteristics (Ex: 0CALMONTH) in planning layout

    Hello,
We are on BW - BPS 3.5v
We have a realtime infocube with only time characteristic 0CALMONTH.
There is a requirement that in my Planning layout I have to display the Keyfigures for:
(CURRENT MONTH)    (CUMULATIVE 4 MONTHS FROM CURRENT MONTH) (CUMULATIVE 7 MONTHS FROM CUR MONTH)
I defined 3 exit variables on 0CALMONTH , one for Current Month, one for All 4 months from Current Month and another for All 7 months from Current Month.
In my planning layout when I use these variables for 0CALMONTH, I don't get the values for 4 months & 7 months.
I checked the variables are being populated with correct values. But when they get passed to the layout it doesn't read the Cube.
I got the basic doubt if we can give multiple values for the time characteristics in planning layout..??
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hi.
Did you created 3 restricted KF: one with KF amount and variable current month, second with amount and variable 4 monthes, third with amount and variable 7 monthes ?
Did you have match records in you cube ?

  • SAP BW Time characteristics data type issue in BO OLAP Universe

    Hi Ingo,
We have time characteristics in our SAP BW Queries, for example OCALMONTH with data type NUMC.
When we create OLAP Universe these objects are having Character as data type and not working properly when we use these objects as filters. The filter working on string instead of calender month.
If i try to change the data type in Universe we are not able to execute Web Intelligence queries due to Driver Not Capable error.
    Appreciate you help.

    Ravi Kumar Garre

    Hi,
    Please find my linline answers:
    - are you entering the value manually or did you select the value from a list of values ?
I am selecting the values from list.
    - based on which item is the list of values ?
List of valules are coming from BI infoObject 0CALMONTH
    - what about creating a variable for this in the underlying BW query ?
We have created a BI Variable, found that the Condition operator is Between and hence when execute the WebI query for this object there are two prompts one is for FROM value another is for TO value. If i give a value Dec, 2007 for FROM and leave TO as blank then i am getting data for all months instead of DEC 2007 onwards.
    - did you trace the Web Intleligence part to see the details ?
I do not have authorization to login on server and find the trace. I will ask our BO Administrator for MDX log file.
    Thanks & Regards,
