Bw report as data source

Hello toghether,
Let's say we have a query on a cube and a lot of calculations made in the query.
I have to load the results of the query into another BW project (cube).
For the moment I create flat files from the query and I load them manually into the other project using PC File Upload infosources.
Is it possible to make the connection directly? So that I can use the query as a datasource? If yes, please let me know how to do this.
Thank you,
Iuliana

Hi,
Other ways to do this are:
1) Using Tcode : rscrm_report
Re: rscrm_report - If time is set periodically will it overwrite/refresh?
2) Using APD in which Query as data source.

  • How to add collection to report as data source

    Hi all,
    i'm trying to add collection to report as data source:
    List<DmsLockingItem> items;
    ReportClientDocument rcd = new ReportClientDocument();
    DatabaseController dbc = rcd.getDatabaseController();
    dbc.setDataSource(items, DmsLockingItem.class, "tName","tName");
    this works with com.businessobjects.crystalreports.sdk but not with rasapp.jar.
    And i can't use plugin lib in my current project.
    can anyone help please?
    Greetings,

    The setDatasource expects the object passed to either be a DataSet, java.sql.ResultSet, IXMLDataSet, or BusinessView object.  Are you able to convert your collection to one of these?

  • Adhoc Reporting using Data Sources instead of Report Model

    Hi Gurus,
    I'm working on SSRS 2008. I'm trying to create Adhoc Report using Report Builder 3.0. To select Data Source, both *.rsds and *.smdl are listed. I selected a Data Source which points to a SQL database. When I add New datasets, I'm able to add the fields and
    it automatically detect relationships (Joins) using Primary Key and Foreign Key defined in the tables. I'm also able to edit the query. I ran the report and it ran successfully.
    My question is I couldn't find any documentation regarding using Data Source for Adhoc Reporting. MS SQL documentation and forums insists that Report Model is required for Adhoc Reporting.
    Please let me know if someone tried to create Adhoc Report using Data Source instead of Report Model. While I understand there are more benefits using Report Model (define entities/attributes, show/hide entity/attributes, organize entities/attributes etc.),
    I just want to know if this is possible.
    Are there any known limitation using this method?
    Thanks In Advance!

    Hi Ereswaran,
    Yes, we can create ad hoc report using report using data source instead of Report Model. Ad hoc reports typically are used to answer a specific question at appoint in time, so consequently people don’t spend a lot of time arranging and formatting the data
    in a precise way. Other report development tools are available in Reporting Services to support more sophisticated reporting requirements.
    Using Report Builder, we can build a simple report that display data form a single data source as defined by a report model. This tool is most useful for business users who need access to information but lack the skills to write a SQL query. If we have full
    experience of SQL query, of course we can use data source instead of Report Model.
    If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

  • "Open sql" report no data sourced defined in windows

    when I want to import data from sql database, the Open sql window report error
    "There are no data sourced defined. Please create one to continue",
    but I have defined the odbc data source using windows 's odbc administrator, why the error?
    chuliang

    A couple of possibilities.
    First are you licensed for Sql interface? If not, you might get that message.
    Second, where did you create the ODBC connection on your computer or the server. It has to be on the server.
    Third, did you create the odbc as a system driver? it needs to be so
    Fourth, what operating system? If it's unix or AIX there is a hole bunch more you need to do to get odbc connections working. If it's windows, it's pretty easy.
    Fifth, did you test the connection before trying it in Essbase?

  • MS Report Builder Data Source Missing

    Hi,
    Simply, when I log onto my server with a local or domain admin and open report Builder, I right click
    on Data Sources and choose add. I choose the one (only one) in the list and test (successfully) the connection.
    However, no other users see the Data source and trying to create one fails. They are local administrators. They have been added as admins in SQL and the DBs. I have rechecked all the permissions and the user has full admin rights to the server, SQL and DBs.

    Hi Analog-Kid,
    According to your description, when users click “Edit in Report Builder” on report server to launch click-once report builder, if users want to add a shared data source, they can’t see the shared data source list which resides on the report server, right?
    In your scenario, please check if those users could access the Data Sources folder on the report server. If not, please grant users permission to access this folder with Content Manager role on Security page. Also please connect to report server instance
    from SSMS, then check if Manage data sources has been selected.
    If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • When creating a report, "Available Data Sources" is missing options.

    Background:
    I am running Crystal Reports XI Developer edition.
    Here are the steps to expose the problem:
    1.  Create a new standard report (Ctrl-N).
    2.  Available data sources - expand "Create New Connection"
    3.  I expect to find "Field Definitions Only" and "File System Data" in the displayed list (among many others).  However, I only see "Database Files", "OLE DB (ADO)", and "More Data Sources".
    4.  "Field Definitions Only" formerly appeared under "More Data Sources" but has disappeared.
    Question:  How do I get all the connection types to appear?
    I have a secondary computer running Crystal Reports where the entire list is populated.  The problem appears only on my primary Crystal Reports development machine.
    .... Warren

    Vitaly,
    1.  Yes, I checked "More Data Sources" - not there.
    2.  I tried adding the Field Definitions using Control Panel Add/Remove - no help.
       I tried removing the "Field Definitions" and then adding them again - no help.
    3.  Another machine does have the same version of CR.  It is running Vista.  Problem machine is running XP.
    4.  Clicked the "Reinstall" button in the Control Panel Add/Remove - this fixed the problem.  I did not need to uninstall the program.
    Both machines now exhibit the same list of connection types (with one small exception).  Thank-you for your hellp.

  • [PS2013] Can't edit report's data sources

    Hi!
    When I upload a report to the PWA, I usually click on the 3 dots and open the menu for that report. I remember that there used to be an option to edit data sources, but I can't see that option anymore, like in the picture below. Any ideas on why did I stopped
    having that option?

    What kind of report is it?  Excel, SSRS, word, PDF?
    It sounds like an SSRS connection string and if that is the case make sure the library has define the content types for SSRS.

  • Error loading report when data source changed

    We are migrating our Crystal Reports from using XML files generated from our SAP R3 system to using a direct connection to SAP R3 (using the SAP Integration Kit).
    The code is straightforward:
          crReport = new CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument();
          crReport.Load(reportPath);
    ...where the reportPath is just a string with the path and filename (e.g. "C:\reports\Report1.rpt").
    This worked fine with the report when it had an XML data source. When we run the code with the new version of the report that connects to a data table on our SAP R3 we get the following error message:
    Error in File Report1 {40205567-F890-4B3C-A103-C9C8F0A1E665}.rpt: Failed to logon to the Crystal Report Object Repository.
    The report is not in an Object Repository, nor do we even have a Repository in place right now. The report can be run manually from Crystal Reports on the desktop without any kind of Repository.
    Both versions of the report were built in Crystal Reports 2008.
    Thanks,
    Byron

    I am not sure if connecting to SAP is any different than connecting to SQL, but we develop one report and then deploy to N number of client who all have their own SQL servers and server names.
    Here is the code I use to alter the database connection at runtime:
      connection.DatabaseName = _datebaseName;
                    connection.ServerName = _serverName;
                    if (_integratedSecurity)
                        connection.IntegratedSecurity = _integratedSecurity;
                    else
                        connection.UserID = _userId;
                        connection.Password = _password;
                    connection.Type = ConnectionInfoType.SQL;
                    // First we assign the connection to all tables in the main report
                    foreach (CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Table table in _reportDocument.Database.Tables)
                        AssignTableConnection(table, connection);
                    foreach (CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Section section in _reportDocument.ReportDefinition.Sections)
                        // In each section we need to loop through all the reporting objects
                        foreach (CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportObject reportObject in section.ReportObjects)
                            if (reportObject.Kind == ReportObjectKind.SubreportObject)
                                SubreportObject subReport = (SubreportObject)reportObject;
                                ReportDocument subDocument = subReport.OpenSubreport(subReport.SubreportName);
                                foreach (CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Table table in subDocument.Database.Tables)
                                    AssignTableConnection(table, connection);

  • Oracle Report as data source in XMLP data template?

    I use XML Publisher 5.6.3 in EBS 11.5.10
    Is it possible to make an xml data template with an oracle report (rdf) as one of the sources of data? (I'm not saying create a Data Def with no Data Template attached... rather point the Data Template to an rdf, or it's xml output.)
    I converted RAXINV.rdf (Invoice) to a data template and layout template. I had to replicate the data template portion of the oracle report and add our own fields to the queries because we have custom fields we want on the invoice report. I didn't want to modify the original rdf.
    I am wondering if I could have avoided converting the entire data template portion of the rdf. My thought is that if I could make a data template that combines A) the xml output of the original rdf, together with B) our custom sql, I could eliminate the "rdf-to-data template" conversion step. This would have been a significant time savings, because making the converted data template actually work was no small task.
    Any and all thoughts are welcome.

    You need the source-data as XML for BIP.
    You can use
    1. RDF to generate xml.
    2. datatemplate to generate xml.
    The ultimate aim is to get xml out of it, so consider both are same.
    If you are comfortable in using RDF, then go ahead and use that.

  • Financial Reporting - Planning 11.1.2.1 Data Source

    We are trying to do salary planning, specifically new hire planning at an employee level. Is it possible to have an account of data type text that users could input into a form, and then build reports in Financial Reporting Studio that would display that text? I know there is an ADM driver that allows Financial Reporting Studio Data Sources to use Planning as a data source, but I wanted to survey for input on if and how well that works.

    That's exactly what I did last year. Business wanted to see the Job description (they entered it on the form) of the new hires in a report.
    In Workspace, create a Planning datasource and when you create your report, map your report to the Planning datasource.
    You just need to login to Workspace > Explore > Tools > Database Connection Manager > New > Select Planning as the Type.

  • Web Service data source report causes Java memory leak

    Crystal Report designer fails to preview a report whose data source is a WSDL web service.  This happens when the Java run time process has exceeded the memory limit specified in the CRConfig.xml file.  The Java memory is never released by Crystal Reports until the Crystal Reports Designer is closed.  Version is Crystal reports 2008 (product version 12.2.4.507).
    This error also occurs in the Crystal Reports Viewer when used in a Microsoft .NET application (framework 3.5) referencing CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.dll v12.0.2000.0, CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.Framework.dll v12.0.1100.0, CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.InfoStore.dll v12.0.1100.0, CrystalDecisions.ReportSource.dll v12.0.2000.0, CrystalDecisions.Shared.dll v12.0.2000.0
    I load the ReportDocument object based on the location of the .rpt file and then set the ReportSource object of the CrystalReportViewer control:
    string FullReportName = "TestFile.rpt";
    ReportDocument reportDoc = new ReportDocument();
    reportDoc.Load(FullReportName, OpenReportMethod.OpenReportByTempCopy);
    this.crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = reportDoc;
    reportDoc.Close();
    reportDoc.Dispose();
    GC.Collect();
    The code displays the report in the report viewer.  However, every time the report is refreshed the Java runtime memory increases until the application cannot display the results.  The error messages are "Failed to retrieve data from the database." followed by "Cannot determine the queries necessary to get data for this report. Details: Unexpected error".  If you try to refresh the data once again the following errors occur: "Failed to retrieve data from the database." then "Cannot determine the queries necessary to get data for this report. Details: Schema file is invalid   Java heap space".
    Increasing the java heap space in the CRConfig.xml file merely prolongues the onset of this error.
    Is there a service pack or hot fix for this???
    PLEASE HELP.

    Many thanks for your help.  This solved the issue for our .NET code, however the leak is still present in the report designer.  I was also wondering if you could help further: because of the limits on the java memory process is there a way to ensure that a separate java process is started for each report that is loaded in my report viewers collection?  Essentially the desktop application that i have created uses a tab control to display each type report, so each tab goes through the following code when displaying a report and closing a tab:
    Is there a way to ensure that a different Java process is kicked off each time that I display a different report?  My current code in c# always uses the same Java process so the memory ramps up.  The code to load the report and then dispose of the report through closing the tab (and now the Java process) looks like this:
        private void LoadCrystalReport(string FullReportName)
          ReportDocument reportDoc = new ReportDocument();
          reportDoc.Load(FullReportName, OpenReportMethod.OpenReportByTempCopy);
          this.crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = reportDoc;
        private void DisposeCrystalReportObject()
          if (crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource != null)
            ReportDocument report = (ReportDocument)crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource;
            foreach (Table table in report.Database.Tables)
              table.Dispose();
            report.Database.Dispose();
            report.Close();
            report.Dispose();
            GC.Collect();
    Thanks

  • Unable to connect with new Data Source

    Hi everybody,
    After many developpment, I finally get my class to do what we need with crystal and webi report using Rebean and RAS SDK's.
    But, today we found a special case that I was thinking to solve following examples but the solutions given by the example do not work.
    Here is the case :
    We have Crystal report in BO using DSN file localted on the C:\ disk of the server. So, the Information for a such report founded in the IConnectionInfo object is :
    ConnectionInfo Kind = CRQE
    QE_DatabaseType = >ODBC (RDO)< (java.lang.String)
    SSO Enabled = >false< (java.lang.Boolean)
    Database DLL = >crdb_odbc.dll< (java.lang.String)
    QE_DatabaseName = >< (java.lang.String)
    QE_LogonProperties = >{FILEDSN=C:\path to DSN, UseDSNProperties=false, Trusted_Connection=false}< (com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.lib.PropertyBag)
    QE_SQLDB = >true< (java.lang.Boolean)
    QE_ServerDescription = >C:\path to DSN< (java.lang.String)
    Today, we had to import old crystal report in BO and for that report, the Data Source gives a DSN file on another disk R:\...
    So for the report where I found in a IConnectionInfo object a DSN file beginning by R:\, I have to change it by a new one pointing to the right DSN file on the C:\ disk. (The DSN file on the C:\ work perfectely because we can use it with other report).
    I follow this example : http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/index?rid=/library/uuid/e068eba5-1f57-2c10-10a0-91e111c98bc7
    And so I get the following code where I put all the parameter need for the correct DSN file on the C:\ :
    ConnectionInfos ci = (ConnectionInfos)dbcontroller.getConnectionInfos(null).clone();
                   IConnectionInfo ici = ci.getConnectionInfo(0);
                   // Create a new connection and start setting new properties
                   IConnectionInfo newConnectionInfo1 = new ConnectionInfo();
                   newConnectionInfo1.setKind(ConnectionInfoKind.CRQE);
                   newConnectionInfo1.setUserName("momtest");
                   newConnectionInfo1.setPassword("testmom");
                   PropertyBag newpb = new PropertyBag();
                   newpb.put(PropertyBagHelper.CONNINFO_CRQE_DATABASETYPE,"ODBC (RDO)");
                   newpb.put(PropertyBagHelper.CONNINFO_SSO_ENABLED,false);
                   newpb.put(PropertyBagHelper.CONNINFO_DATABASE_DLL,"crdb_odbc.dll");
                   newpb.put(PropertyBagHelper.CONNINFO_CRQE_DATABASENAME,"");
                   newpb.put(PropertyBagHelper.CONNINFO_CRQE_SQLDB,true);
                   newpb.put(PropertyBagHelper.CONNINFO_CRQE_SERVERDESCRIPTION,"path to DSN");
                   PropertyBag LogonProperties = new PropertyBag();
                   LogonProperties.put("FILEDSN","path to DSN");
                   LogonProperties.put("UseDSNProperties", false);
                   LogonProperties.put("Trusted_Connection","false");
                   newpb.put(PropertyBagHelper.CONNINFO_CRQE_LOGONPROPERTIES,LogonProperties);
                   newConnectionInfo1.setAttributes(newpb);
                   try {
                        dbcontroller.replaceConnection(ici, newConnectionInfo1, null, DBOptions._useDefault);
                   catch (ReportSDKServerException error)
                     System.out.println(error.getServerError());
                   System.out.println("--->" + dbcontroller.getServerNames());
                   System.out.println("Refreshing document...");
                   clientDoc.refreshReportDocument();
                   System.out.println("Document refreshed");
                   ByteArrayInputStream byteIS = (ByteArrayInputStream) clientDoc.getPrintOutputController().export(ReportExportFormat.PDF);
    When we arrived at line "ByteArrayInputStream byteIS = (ByteArrayInputStream) clientDoc.getPrintOutputController().export(ReportExportFormat.PDF);" we get a message that the logon failed.
    Someone have an idea?

  • Bw data source

    hi all,
             i create one report using vendor_attr data source data from r3 coming properly now when i use same data source (vendor_attr) for new report that data source not shown at the time of assigning .
    it means we cant use used data source for new report
    plz replay i am very confuse.
    thx in advance

    Dear Ankit,
    So you have created <b>one</b> DataSource which consists of three fields. Then you have assigned this DataSource to an InfoSource - and that is it. You cannot assig it a second time to a different InfoSource.
    In your scenario you have to load "name" and "ort" by loading "lifnr" master data. As far as I understand your data model, everything should be fine. The InfoPackage, which you have created, should deliver all data for "lifnr", "name" and "ort". Check the incoming data in the PSA to be sure that everything is fine.
    If you do not see any records in the S-tables for "name" and "ort" although appropriate data is being sent by R/3, this could be caused by missing flags for "navigational attributes" in the lifnr" definition.
    Kind regards,
    Stefan

  • Performance Point Services data source pointing towards wrong datasource after production instance copied in development

    Hi
    We have copied our Project Server 2010 production databases to development server. We have few reports created by using Performance Point Services, but here when we try to open the reports the data source is  pointing towards production data source
    instead of dev.
    We are getting some issue while executing the reports
    Request you to let me know what exactly the cause and steps to rectify the issue.
    Thanks
    Geeth If you feel that the answer which i gave you is Helpful please select it as Answer/helpful.

    As you have copied data from Prod to Dev reports are pointing to production data sources and reports are unable to display data. Whenever we copy the data from one environment to other then this kind if issue occurs.
    We need to modify the data source of all the reports manually so that report point to dev data source.
    You have to open data source for your reports and change it from prod to dev then reports will display correct data.
