C++ Dependencies Generation is Very Slow in Solaris 10..

Hi
We are also having Slow make dependencies problem. It is taking more than 24 hrs to make dependencies in SOLARIS 10.
OS : SOLARIS 10
C++ COmpiler: Sun Studio 10: C++ 5.7 Compiler
It is very slow when it comes to generating dependencies using 'makedepend'....
Looking for your great help...
thanks
chakra

Hello,
Currently I'm trying to use the CC -xM compiler option to generate dependency info for source files.
By default I think that the -xM option assumes that all the object files are in the same directory as the output file
Suppose if the object files are in a different directory than the source files then how does the -xM recoginize it??
Because when I give in my makefiel as given below, depend option works fine.
$(OBJS):%.o:%.cxx
$(CXX) -xM1 $(CFLAGS) $< > $*.P
$(CXX) $(CFLAGS) $(@F:.o=.cxx) -o $@
-include $(SRCS:.cxx=.P)
But when the object files are in a different directory as given below it does not work properly.
$(OBJS):$(OUTPUT_DIR)/%.o:%.cxx
$(CXX) -xM1 $(CFLAGS) $< > $(OUTPUT_DIR)/$*.P
$(CXX) $(CFLAGS) $(@F:.o=.cxx) -o $@
-include $(SRCS:%.cxx=$(OUTPUT_DIR)/%.P)
From what I found when -xM1 ouputs info it assumes that alll the object files are in the same directory as the source files.
When I give a "make" in the source directory it displays like this.
CEventQueue.o : CEventQueue.cxx
CEventQueue.o : CEventQueue.h
CEventQueue.o : ../../pdfcore/src//CCoQueueService.h
CEventQueue.o : ../../pdfcore/src//CCoPthreadObj.h
CEventQueue.o : ../../pdfcommon/src//CPdfObject.h
CEventQueue.o : ../../pdfcommon/src//CPdfTrace.h
CEventQueue.o : ../../pdfcommon/src//CPdfException.h
CEventQueue.o : ../../pdfcommon/src//PdfType.h
But actually it should refer the .o's like this.
../../build/CEventQueue.o : CEventQueue.cxx where ../../build is the OUTPUT_DIR.
I found that there is no CC compiler option for adding prefix to object files.
Could you tell me what to do now.??All the makefiles in our project create the .o files in a seperate directory other than the source directory.
Thanks in advance,
GA

  • Telnet from Windows PC is very slow to Solaris x86, after Net linked

(Sorry about the re-post. I posted in the wrong group earlier)
I got the following info from this forum, in regards to configuring my Solaris x86 to link to the Net:
    # echo 192.168.0.1 > /etc/defaultrouter
    # route add default 192.168.0.1
    # echo nameserver 192.168.0.1 >> /etc/resolv.conf
    # cp /etc/nsswitch.dns /etc/nsswitch.conf
So I did the above steps, reboot the Solaris, and my Solaris system can link to the Net fine afterwards. But ever since it had Net access, another problem is created.
Whenever I telnet using a command line from a Windows XP computer, it takes a long time to telnet to this Solaris system. Before, I would see the Solaris login prompt for telnet in a few seconds. Now, it's about 1 minute. Plus, if I try to use an xterminal software from that PC to link to the Solaris x86, it hangs.
So after I undo all the 4 commands above, reboot the Solaris computer, all these problems disappear. I can telnet from my Windows PC to this Solaris system very quickly. However, I no longer have Internet access from my Solaris.
Anyone knows how I can fix this problem? Thanks.

It sounds like a name resolution issue. Can you post the contents of your /etc/nsswitch.conf file for us?

  • Why reports created in 8.5 and saved in XI.5 are very slow?

    Hello,
    Here is my problem :
I worked with Crystal Report 8.5 and my reports were speedy.
I saved a report in a new version (Crystal XI.5) and the report generation is very slow.
If i saved the same report (saved in 8.5) in the version XI (not the XI.5) the report is speedy.
If i saved the report from XI.5 to XI there is no change (report slow).
Have you ever seen this problem?
The database used is Advantage Database Server 8.1.0.26
    Thanks for the help.
    Mickael

    Hi Mariusz,
It is expected that the reports will run a bit slow in the newer version as the entire report engine has undergone chnage after version 8.5.
With the new version, the database security has been enforced a lot more as compared to version 8.5. Along with this, the SQL generation process has also undergone change and the SQL which is now generated is much more optimized.
Also, there are a lot of new features in terms of formatting the report, which can cause the delay in showing you the first page of the report. It may not just be the database access that is taking time.
As suggested earlier, if you find the query generated in 8.5 was fetching records faster, you can surely create a command object in XI R2 to check if you get the same speed of data retrival.

    Abhishek Jain.

  • 4Th Generation Time Capsule Running Backup very Slow

I am having a problem with my 4th generation time capsule as it is running very slow , it shows that i need to backup 151 Gb data and for the last 2 days the device backup only 150 mb, pls advise what is the problem? setup of the wireless network seems fine to me without any problem
    please help

When you use ethernet, make sure your wireless is turned off in the computer.
It can be worthwhile isolating the TC to the Computer so there is nothing else happening.
Also for Mavericks ensure you have ipv6 set correctly to link-local.
A 100GB backup certainly should not take 20hours..
Although the 2008 (gen1 TC is much slower than later versions).
A first backup of the computer must deal with loads and loads of little files, as a warning can go slow.
A different backup software will be just the same.. it is the speed over network and handling small files that is the issue. Once that first backup is done the later incrementals should not be a problem though.

  • IDM install of weblogic on solaris t200 very slow

    Folks
Has anyone installed weblogic or IDM solution on solaris T2000. The startup and responses are very slow. It takes 20 minutes to bring up the admin server and soa server with the base services starts up in over 40 minutes. Bottom line unusable.
    Config:
    Soalris 10
    Jrockit: 1.6
Weblogic and IDM Suite latest dot 5 release
Is there something obvious we are missing.... Any suggestions recommendations???
The same config on linux is blazing but that is not our environment.....
    Thanks
    MI

Look up metalink Oracle has mentioned that there is a problem with T200 and the combination of weblogic/soa and other servers with no solution... They suggest T4000 as the starting point....
    Cheers

  • Generation of ASH report very slow

    Hello,
I'm in 11203, and generation of ASH report is very slow.
AWR and ADDM reports are generated quickly.
To understand what happen, I check the wait event on the session that is executing ASH report, and I found that this session is waiting 99% with "controlfile sequential read".
    My question is :
Is there any way to make the generation of ASH report quick ?
Why the generation need to access to the controlfile ?
    Thank you a lot.

    Hi, Keith.
I tried the pagination scheme "Row Ranges X to Y (with next and previous links)".
This caused the same problem - my page aborts with the error message:
"Internet Explorer cannot open the Intenet site https://oraweb.slac.stanford.edu/apex/slacprod/f?p=116:13:439623456781::NO:::
    Operation aborted"
I even removed pagination altogether and still got the same error.
Futhermore, it is sporadic. At times I invoke the report with 500 rows and it
displays without problem. And then, 5 seconds later, I run the re-run the report (again asking to display 500 rows), and it aborts.
This report worked without error (it was "slow", but worked) two weeks ago. But now, it is failing. My gut feeling is that my problem lies with out Oracle
Application Server. I have the feeling that our DBA's have changed some
sort of configuration (a buffer, perhaps) that is causing my problem. Not sure
about this. I guess I'm reaching for straws at this point.
Thanks for your help. It is appreciated.

  • Solaris 10 on T1000 : Calculations VERY SLOW

We bought a T1000 for Web server application.
We have to resize online some images using Imagemagick.
The resizing is very very slow (on an e450 - 250MHz sparc II... 1 sec, on the T1000...nearly 2 minutes!!)
Any idea for an optimization ?
    Kind regards,

10 install it is very very slow. What does "slow" mean? How are you measuring it? What exactly is it that is "slow?"

My 2nd generation Airport Extreme very slow via wireless (5 and belows mbps) wired over 20. Please help! What could it be?

It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference nearby that is preventing your AEBSn from providing a clean RF signal on the 2.4 GHz band.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like iStumbler, or AirRadar to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible.

  • Ftp is very slow locally with intel solaris 8 with 98 se buffalo ( 100mps)

why? what to check? ping ok.
3 com 3c905b card installed with solaris 8 connected with linksys router.
Buffalo installed in 98 se 100 mps
    cable modem with dynamic ip.
I have tried FTP in 98 SE with LINUX 6.0 RH via LINKSYS router with ver 1.37 ( 1.37 is even worser than 1.36-because the status is not refresh but itself) is ok.
but 98SE with intel solaris 8 is very slow with wu-ftp(ipswitch) 1%, then 1%....etc an hour later still 1%. I shut down the solaris try a few times, then it is ok. all connection is tight.
    some one said::
The most common mistake that causes bad throughput is mixing
full-duplex and half-duplex stations on the same LAN.
HOWTO solve full-duplex and half -duplex??
    thanks for your attention!

  • Snow Leopard - very slow restart / reboot and Boot Camp restart fail

    Hi
After Snow Leopard installation on my Macbook Pro I have a very slow restart. I logged this immediately after install and waited till 10.6.1 was issued and installed but still have the same problems. Hope some one can help.
For an normal restart or reboot I have the grey screen for about 25 secs and then the blue screen hangs for about 2 mins 30 secs before loading desktop. This is longer than Leopard and clearly not what Snow Leopard is meant to be. I have installed on an iMac as well and can see the new normal fast boot.
I also have Windows on it's own partition and use in Boot Camp. I have used this successfully under Leopard.
When I restart from Windows using the Start button and restart, Windows shuts down and then the mac starts up but gets stuck indefinitely on the blue screen. I have waited up to 25 mins then forced a shut down.
However if I restart from Windows using the Boot Camp icon in the taskbar and choose the restart from MacOSX it shuts down windows and restarts the mac in record time!! about 25 secs grey screen and 25 secs blue screen. I can't get this in normal mac mode! - Bizarre.
I have run Disk Utility, repaired permissions, run Tech Tool, Onyx, reset PRAM, deleted startup items plists and removed startup items from System Preferences Account.
I have monitored the Console app for all the startup conditions noted above and will post below. In the logs of the normal mac reboot you can see something to do with Security Agent taking over 2 mins to load. Maybe that is a clue, but I don't understand these messages. Please note that the iStatsmenu app was installed after snow leopard and I had these slow startups before it's installation.
If anyone technical can understand what the **** is going on here I would really appreciate your feedback.
    Regards
    Eric

    Hi guys
Thanks for your contributions. I have made little progress on this issue since posting.
Just as added info, I did a re-install of Snow leopard from install DVD and upgrade again to 10.6.1 and no change to the startup behaviours. Same pattern as before, although the first restart was fast and probably how it is meant to be, then the slow ones reappeared.
I also had a thought that somehow it may be related to the nominated startup disk. There were posts on other boards about similar issues with Leopard where the hanging start was found to be related to the computer not knowing which startup disk to use. I thought maybe as it works when using the boot camp icon from Windows but not the restart button, it may be related, but in OSX and Windows both are set to startup in OSX on HD. So no further joy.
Maybe someone else will come along who can understand the Console logs. Why does the loginwindow and Security Agent take so long?
Do you guys have any clues from your Console system logs? Does yours hang on loginwindow?
The fact that there are so few people with the same problem suggests to me that there is a third party device/preference/ hidden file somewhere that is having an effect and it's not an Apple issue.
I am getting close to wiping the hard drive and starting again....but live in hope.
    Cheers

  • Conversion of Characteristic Values to SIDs. Load Very slow

    Hi Experts,
We have a slow load issue when loading from a Write-Optimized DSO into an InfoCube. 8 millon recs in 10 hours.
We check the start, end, and rules routines and every is ok but for all the package the load was very slow in the Conversion of Characteristic Values to SIDs.
Can any help me with this?
    Thanks a lot,
    Alejandro

    Hi,
It is because the SIDs Generation upon Activation flag is unchecked at DSO level .
One recommendation will be to switch on the property of the DSO SIDs Generation upon Activation flag .
Are there any secondary indexes also in DSO ?
You can try deleting them also during loading the data from DSO to cube .
Also load your master data first and activate it before loading it to cube.
    Thanks,

  • Import ABAP running very slow

guys, I am installing IDES EHP4 on a solaris box with oracle 10g. The import is running very slow. in 20 hours, it has only imported 10 out of 105 jobs. Top comand shows i have 26 GB free physical memory (out of 48GB total) and also 123 GB free swap out of 150 GB total. CPU load is also only 3 %. I have already configured the project file acording to sap recommedation. MY oracle init file configuration looks like this. Also, you will see my project and user_attr files below. Please advise what i can change tomake things go faster.

  • Ps -p running very slow (1-2 seconds) on Java process

    Hi Solaris gurus:
I encountered a issue that running ps -p on java process running very slow, it took almost 2 seconds to complete.

    /1: 0.0001 fstat(1, 0xFFFFFFFF7FFFE1F0) = 0
    /1: 0.0000 write(1, " U I D P".., 55) = 55

    /1: 1.2401 close(3) = 0
    /1: 0.0002 stat("/dev/tty", 0xFFFFFFFF7FFFE830) = 0
It seems that the read() spent the most time.
    Anyone can help?

After removing adware, and do a safe boot of Safari and remove extensions, then reset cache history etc. You need to do a boot into Recovery Mode and run Disk Repair from there. Also boot the system in Safe Mode.
On startup it sounds like you have a problem with the directory which would also account for long startups and checking the directory. Along with or instead of DU Repair Disk you can use Single User Mode and fsck -fy to try to fix the directory but in some cases that may not be enough.
Backups from before you got this adware and problems helps and should always be ready and able to restore a system from known good backups or system restore image.
4GB of RAM may have been fine originally but "Early 2011" is now 5 years and 4 OS version changes. You can upgrade the memory and while at it consider a nice SSD internal drive which will help as well. Take a look and see what prices and options there are from http://www.macsales.com for your 2011 MacBook Pro.

  • Jdev 11g application is running very slow.

    Hi,
I have deployed the application on Solaris OS, Weblogic 10.3.2 and JDev 11g.
Application is running very slow, means each page is taking time to launch.
    Server setup is as follows:
    8 cpu's
    6gb of memory
    8gb swap
    15gb /apps
    20gb /logs
Please let me know if I need to set any parameters at server level to improve the application performance.
    Thanks.

Oh, yes, of course, your /logs partition should be 22.25 GB instead of 20 ;) (that was a joke before you run off and ask for more space)
To amplify what Timo said, you've provided actually no information whatsoever that would help anyone even begin to know what is causing the performance problem. Have you looked at the EM screens? Have you turned on logging to see if it's the database perhaps? You need to do much more diagnosis.
