1. What kind of cache groups are youy using (READONLY, AWT, SWT etc.)?
2. When did you initially populate the cache groups from Oracle using LOAD CACHE GROUP?
3. Has the cache agent been running correctly since you first populated the cache groups?
4. Where have updates (insert/update/delete) been executed since you populated the cache groups? Oracle? TimesTen? Both?

Unable to use Cache connect to oracle
Hi Friends,
I am using TimesTen Cache connect to oracle to connect to Oracle 9i. When I tried to
Command> call ttCacheUidPwdSet('testuser','mypsswrd'); it gave me an error saying
"con1: Command> call ttCacheUidPwdSet('TestUser', 'prashant');
Warning 5105: OCI initialization failed: Error due to failure of ttOCIEnvNlsCre
ate (called from ttBDbEnvAlloc/ttBDbInit).
Warning 5109: Cache Connect general error: BDB connections not open."
can anybody tell me what could be the problem.
And to use cache connect is there a separate installation ? or setting ?
Thanks,
PrashantWhat exact version of Oracle client is installed on the TimesTen machine? Are the permissions for the Oracle client directory and files set correctly? Do you have your Oracle environment properly setup (i.e. can you connect to Oracle using SQL*PLUS)? When you installed TimesTen, did the user you used to install it have a valid Oracle environment?
This type of error is almost always due to an unsupported version of the client or an incorrect environment either at runtime or at installation time.

Does TT cache connect support Oracle 8.1.7.4 as backend database?
Can TT (702) cache connect support Oracle 8.1.7.4?
thanksNo, I'm afraid not. We only support 9.2.0.8 or 10g. There is no longer support for 8i.
Sorry,
Chris -
We have an application which calls PL/SQL stored procedures in an Oracle 9 Db. Is there any way to use the cache connector for Oracle where the application will use the TT DB instead of the Oracle DB without needing extensive changes to the application?
Any help is appreciated!Hi user487815,
The TimesTen IMDB does not support PL/SQL stored procedures. For your application, you should select the performance critical procedures and convert them to either ODBC or JDBC SQL calls.

TimesTen Cache Connect support for Oracle 11g
The latest 7.0.5 readme mentioned that "Oracle Release 11gR1 is supported with TimesTen Cache Connect to Oracle on Linux x86 32-bit and 64-bit platforms, and on Windows 32-bit."
What about Solaris 10? It looks like on Solaris 10 only Oracle 10gR2 being supported. What is so specific about Oracle 11?
Thank you,
AlexTimesTen 7.0.5 can be used to cache data from different versions of Oracle database.
The reason why the support for Solaris, AIX, and HP-UX were not at the same time as the Linux platform was because Oracle database 11g was not available on those platforms initially. So TimesTen 7.0.5 was certified to support only the ones available first, and support for other platforms was added as 11g became available on those platforms. It was just timing of the certification, code base is the same.

"In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition
Hi,
In one of our applications, we are using TimesTen 5.1.24 and Oracle 9i
databases (platform - Solaris 9i).
TimesTen holds application information which needs to be accessed quickly
and Oracle 9i is a master application database.
Now we are looking at an option of migrating from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g
database. While exploring about Oracle 10g features, came to know about
"In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle Enterprise Edition. This made
me to think about using Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition with "In-Memory
Database Cache" option for our application.
Following are the advantages that I could visualize by adopting the
above-mentioned approach:
1. Data reconciliation between Oracle and TimesTen is not required (i.e.
data can be maintained only in Oracle tables and for caching "In-Memory
Database Cache" can be used)
2. Data maintenance is easy and gives one view access to data
I have following queries regarding the above-mentioned solution:
1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
"In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
cache feature)?
3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
in making this statement?
5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
Database Cache"?
In "Options and Packs" chapter in Oracle documentation
(http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/options.htm
#CIHJJBGA), I encountered the following statement:
"For the purposes of licensing Oracle In-Memory Database Cache, only the
processors on which the TimesTen In-Memory Database component of the
In-Memory Database Cache software is installed and/or running are counted
for the purpose of determining the number of licenses required."
We have servers with the following configuration. Is there a way to get the
count of processors on which the Cache software could be installed and/or
running? Please assist.
Production box with 12 core 2 duo processors (24 cores)
Pre-production box with 8 core 2 duo processors (16 cores)
Development and test box with 2 single chip processors
Development and test box with 4 single chip processors
Development and test box with 6 single chip processors
Thanks & Regards,
VijayHi Vijay,
regarding your questions:
1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
"In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
==> Product has just been renamed and integrated better with the Oracle database - Times-Ten == In-Memory-Cache-Database
2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
cache feature)?
==> Seperate Installation
3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
==> Please have a look here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/timesten/quickstart/cc_qs_index.html
This explains the differences.
4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
in making this statement?
==> Please see above mentioned papers
5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
Database Cache"?
==> Again ... ;-)
Kind regards

I have tried for several days but to no results. Please advise how to solve the problem. Thank you very muchDear all,
I have found a solution for this error. We could use Oracle 10.2 g on HP-UX v11.31. However, when you do the installation, command will be: "./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs".
The steps to install oracle client are following ( $ORACLE_CLIENT_HOME):
1) su - oracle
2) Download Oracle 10.2g HP-UX Itanium "10gr2_client_hpi.zip"
3) unzip the file : "jar xvf 10gr2_client_hpi.zip " . The new folder name "client"
4) cd client; ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
After that, you need to remove the $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libclntsh.so and link to new file
5) rm $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libclntsh.so
6) ln -s $ORACLE_CLIENT_HOME/lib/libclntsh.so.10.1 $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libclntsh.so
7) export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_CLIENT_HOME/lib:$TIMESTEN_HOME/lib:$ORACLE_HOME/lib
8) export PATH=$ORACLE_CLIENT_HOME/bin:$PATH
Then you need to restart the TimesTen Daemon so that it could get the new system parameters
9) ttDaemonAdmin -restart
if you do not restart the TimesTen Daemon, you could get the error:
Command> call ttCacheStart;
10024: Could not start cache agent for the requested data store. Could not initialize OCI function pointers. Error: none
The command failed.
And finally, the CacheConnect is up

Cache Connect Oracle Database Support
What versions of the 10g Oracle Database server are supported by Cache Connect for TimeTen 7.0.4 & 7.0.5?
The TimesTen 7.0.4 & 7.0.5 Installation Guide lists that 10gR1 & 10gR2 are supported.
What about 10gR3 & 10gR4 for TimesTen 7.0.4 & 7.0.5?
Thanks.Brian,
There are no 10gR3 and 10gR4 for the Oracle Database.
- 10gR1 = 10.1.0.x
- 10gR2 = 10.2.0.y
The latest 10gR2 release number is 10.2.0.4 and is available on Linux and a number of other platforms.
Both TimesTen 7.0.4 and 7.0.5 support 10.2.0.4 and this is the recommended client version for Cache Connect; the reason is that we have found Oracle OCI client side issues with pre-10.2.0.4 releases and they are fixed in 10.2.0.4.

Hi All,
I have been trying to connect to Oracle using a self signed certificate from a simple Java class. I am getting the below error.
main, handling exception: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Remote host closed connection during handshake
main, SEND TLSv1 ALERT: fatal, description = handshake_failure
I have searched many forums but couldnt find the information of my help.
Below are the steps I have followed as per the documentation in wp-oracle-jdbc-thin-ssl-130128.pdf.
First Step: Created a self signed certificate and a truststore with the below commands using JDK 1.6.0_16
Create a Keystore:
keytool -genkey -keyalg RSA -alias MyKey -keystore keystore.jks -validity 360
Extracting the public key:
keytool -export -rfc -alias MyKey -keystore keystore.jks -file public.cert
Creating the Truststore:
keytool -import -alias MyKey -file public.cert -storetype JKS -keystore keystore.truststore
Second Step: Added the following in listener.ora and sqlnet.ora
listerner.ora :
# listener.ora Network Configuration File: D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\listener.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
SID_LIST_LISTENER =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = CLRExtProc)
(ORACLE_HOME = D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1)
(PROGRAM = extproc)
(ENVS = "EXTPROC_DLLS=ONLY:D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\bin\oraclr11.dll")
SSL_CLIENT_AUTHENTICATION = FALSE
LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCPS)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 2484))
ADR_BASE_LISTENER = D:\oracle
WALLET_LOCATION =
(SOURCE =
(METHOD = FILE)
(METHOD_DATA =
(DIRECTORY = E:\misc\Secure-jdbc\OracleCertificates)
sqlnet.ora :
# sqlnet.ora Network Configuration File: D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\sqlnet.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
ENCRYPTION_WALLET_LOCATION =
(SOURCE =
(METHOD = FILE)
(METHOD_DATA =
(DIRECTORY = E:\misc\Secure-jdbc\OracleCertificates)
# This file is actually generated by netca. But if customers choose to
# install "Software Only", this file wont exist and without the native
# authentication, they will not be able to connect to the database on NT.
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (BEQ, TCPS, NTS)
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)
SSL_CLIENT_AUTHENTICATION = FALSE
WALLET_LOCATION =
(SOURCE =
(METHOD = FILE)
(METHOD_DATA =
(DIRECTORY = E:\misc\Secure-jdbc\OracleCertificates)
ADR_BASE = D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\log
Third Step: Created an empty auto logon wallet and added the above created certificate as a Trusted Certificate. (Imported the .cert file into the Trusted Certificates section in Wallet Manager)
Fourth Step: Used the below Java code to connect to the database using the truststore
public static void main(String[] args) { try { Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"); String url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcps)(HOST=localhost)(PORT=2484))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=ORCL11)))"; Properties props = new Properties(); props.setProperty("user", "system"); props.setProperty("password", "oracle"); props.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStore","E:\\misc\\Secure-jdbc\\Keys and Certificates\\keystore.truststore"); props.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStoreType","JKS"); props.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword","sudhir123#"); Connection conn=DriverManager.getConnection(url,props); System.out.println("conn:"+conn); conn.close(); } catch(Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } }
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Edited by: user10569290 on 20-Feb-2013 22:02Hi EJP,
Please find the below code changes I have done to set the properties as part of System properties instead of Connection properties. I am still getting the same error.
Code:
Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
String url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcps)(HOST=localhost)(PORT=2484))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=ORCL11)))";
Properties systemProps = System.getProperties();
systemProps.put("javax.net.ssl.trustStore","E:\\misc\\Secure-jdbc\\Keys and Certificates\\keystore.truststore");
systemProps.put("javax.net.ssl.trustStoreType","JKS");
systemProps.put("javax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword","sudhir123#");
System.setProperties(systemProps);
Properties props = new Properties();
props.setProperty("user", "system");
props.setProperty("password", "oracle");
/*props.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStore","E:\\misc\\Secure-jdbc\\Keys and Certificates\\keystore.truststore");
props.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStoreType","JKS");
props.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword","sudhir123#");
Connection conn=DriverManager.getConnection(url,props);
System.out.println("conn:"+conn);
conn.close();Please find the below output with the SSL debug enabled.

Hi!!!
We have 4-nodes linux cluster based on MC Service Guard.
T10 works as a standalone in the packet "pack1" with other apps. Apps uses t10.
Packet "pack1" (with t10 and apps) can be moved to any of 4 cluster nodes, and it doesn't have a home node (it may live on node 1 year, 3 month on node 2, 1 day on node 3, etc...).
Is there any possibilities to set up cache connect in that kind of cluster configuration?
We don't want to install additional T10 instance on all nodes :)Chris,
but then pack1 moved to another node, a host name (where t10 now works) is changed.
And since pack1 has moved to another node, values like BOOKMARK and REPORTS in TT_03_AGENT_STATUS for that t10-subscriber remains the same, and off course it turns to growth TT_03_34575_L table.
Maybe, it is because t10-subscriber identified in TT_03_AGENT_STATUS by hostname?
In t10 cache connect works fine.
But in oracle we have growing table and we can't make our own monitoring of cache connect based on BOOKMARK and REPORTS.
I believe that I've done something wrong. But what exactly?

node2 pack2
node3 pack3

Cache connect sql query timeout
I have a question regarding SWT cache group.
Is there a way to tell TimesTen how long to wait for oracle connection it is not avalible ?
scenario:
I have a SWT cache group and oracle database is down. Then I insert a new row into cached table. I get error msg (can't connect to oracle db ....) after 3 - 5 seconds. I would like to shorten that interval to 100 miliseconds. Is that possible ?
Thank you for replay.
Regards, MitjaSWT uses regular Oracle SQLNet to communicate to Oracle. This 'timeout' is therefore determined by SQLNet and not TimesTen. If there is a way to make SQLNet respond more quidckly then that would have the desired effect (but I am not a SQLNet expert I'm afraid).
