Cache html signature image

Hi Apples,
In 10.5 I can drag an image to a new mail message from firefox, effectively embedding the image to my new e-mail. I can't do this is 10.4.
If I use css to code a signature, the image loads but is not cached for offline use (must be able to see the signature offline also).
I'm looking for a work around. Anyone?

Thanks for the quick reply BDAqua,
I have found an alternate way to achieve this; coding the css and html and then importing it as per the following example.
http://creativebits.org/HTMLemail_with_Mailapp_inTiger
Works a treat, works offline. Not yet tested in MS office.
Still looking for a way to stop mac mail from occasionally change it's formatting font to helvetica (niews as times new roman on a pc)

  • Why do image links in my HTML signature get turned into inline images?

I have written a program to create HTML signature files for email programs at my workplace.
The signature file uses URLs to images hosted on a server. This appears to work fine, but I've noticed that when I send an email from Icedove (Thunderbird rebadged for Debian), the image links automatically get turned into attachments. These are then visible as base64-encoded MIME blocks in the email source.
I cannot find any option for altering this behaviour anywhere in the application, even in the Config Editor.
Can anybody advise me how to change this behaviour? Thanks in advance.
I am running Icedove v.17 for Debian 64 bit.

By default Thunderbird attaches all images, even if the <img> element points to a remote resource. Most e-mail clients block remote content these days unless the user authorizes it (see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/991448 this thread] for an in-depth discussion) due to potential privacy/tracking issues. Thus, the image your are adding as a remote resource may not display the first time the recipient opens the message.
If you want to change your code respectively anyway, have a look at [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_complex_mails_with_inline_images#Remote_images this article]. You'll have to add an attribute <img '''moz-do-not-send="true"'''> to the element which will Tell Thunderbird to ''not'' download the image from the server and embedding it into the message on sending.

  • HTML Signature Problem - Images not showing

    Hi all,
I've got some HTML signatures that I use in Mail (v4.3) on Snow Leopard (10.6.4). They were created quite a while ago and have been working fine. BUT... I need to update them to change some of the information. So, I went through the usual rigamarole:
    - Edit the HTML file
    - Open the HTML file in Safari (v5.0.2)
    - Save the file as a webarchive from Safari
    - Find the appropriate file in the ~/Library/Mail/Signatures folder
    - Replace the file with the new webarchive (renamed)
When I do this, now, Mail will not show the image that I have in the signature (which is a background image placed in the file using CSS and referenced as a URL from my web server).
Does anyone know why the old signature (created the same way, but using an old version of Mail & Safari) works... but doing it all over again using the current version doesn't?
    Thanks!

Anything you paste in the HTML is your responsibility. iWeb doesn't care about it. If it doesn't work, too bad.
Perhaps Posterous doesn't like to be displayed.
    Ask them.
And instead of pasting garbage (not pretty stock standard) you may want to consider using proper code  :
    <iframe src="http://hamptoncycles.posterous.com/" frameborder="0" width="900" height="1050" scrolling="no" allowTransparency="true"></iframe
You'll never now if that is the problem.

  • HTML Signature Not Displaying Images

I have an html signature which I tried to add to my Mac Mail app by following this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ukn9H3AEEA.
No success here. The images won't display. What am I doing wrong?

  • Image in html signature doesn't appear

I've tried this tutorial to put together an html signature including images.
    http://allforces.com/2006/04/14/css-signatures/
As you can see at Step 6, the image shows when the signature is selected. When I compose an email however, I always get a 'blue question mark icon' as if the link to the image can't be found. I'm using images which are online, saved the html file as a webarchive file in safari etc. When I send the email anyway to for example my gmail address, the signature is ok and the image shows in the signature.
Why does the image doesn't show when I am writing the email and include the signature? Why do I get a blue question mark icon when writing the email? Perhaps I should point out that we're using IMAP should that matter.
The image should appear as it does in Step 6 in that tutorial. What could be wrong?

    Hi there,
I had a similar problem with my .mac (mobileme) mail account. Followed basically same approach: I created the html signature in TextEdit and saved as a webarchive when opened in Safari. Then renamed it to have same name as existing non-html signature file in Home > Library > Signatures
(So, for those who are new to this, it basically replaces the one your mac created when you create a signature within Mail Prefs > Signatures; but even though you replace it, it needs to have the same name so it knows which mail account it applies to; I have 4 mail accounts in my program, with 4 sigs I created via the Prefs, so there were 4 of those sig files in Library).
Then I uploaded the image to an external server. Made sure I reselected the signature in the middle pane of the Prefs > Signatures area and dragged it over to the mail account.
Composed mail using .mac account, new signature DID appear (but it doesn't when looking at Prefs > Sig pane; that shows the ? mark because it doesn't go get the image at the external server, I guess). *Problem: when I sent mail as a test, it wouldn't show up in the mail that I sent.*
I just figured that Apple was stripping out the html sig. But today I tested again and it's there.
Somewhere in this thread, one of the guys mentioned giving it some time. That seems to have worked for me.
Just wanted to share because more and more people are starting to add html sigs.
(P.S. Also created these html sigs for my other, non-mobileme mail accounts and they appeared in the sent mail as soon as I sent the mail. No delay.)

  • Old html signature keeps appearing

    Hi,
I created an html signature for my mail account. It has worked fine. Very simple. Just a link to an image (png) on my server.
The thing is, yesterday I altered the image slightly, saved, uploaded to server (overwrote the original), created the new webarchive, replaced the existing webarchive file in the Home--> Library --> Mail --> Sig folder. Renamed new webarchive file to match previous. When I compose new mail, the old signature appears. This happens even though it doesn't exist anymore in the Sig folder. And the image doesn't exist anymore on my server.
So, I decided to trash everything and start again. In Mail prefs, created the default sig in order to generate/establish the file in the Sig folder. Then created the html doc (with correct link to png file on my server), opened in Safari, saved as webarchive to my desktop. Opened that webarchive just to check that the sig appeared correctly. It did. Then, replaced the existing webarchive file (showing default sig created 5 minutes earlier within Mail Prefs) with this new one. Renamed it with the just replaced file's name. Dragged the sig from the middle pane of the Prefs window over to the account I wanted it for, opened new message window. And . . . .
The OLD signature (the previous image, that is, that I overwrote on my server) still keeps appearing! But as with the first example above, it doesn't exist anywhere!
Anyone have any ideas why this is happening and what to do about it? Is it just some lag on cached images maybe? It's gone on for a day or two.
One other thing I noticed completely by accident: I open a new message window, the old sig appears. I move cursor to the drop down menu above the window to the right to check the signature selected. It's the right one. I click to select it again (even though it's already selected) and then the newer sig appears, replacing the older one. However, when I send the email to myself, no sig appears in the mail I receive.
Go figure! But again, any thoughts?
    Many thanks.

The graphic HTML signature panel does not appear in my Mac mail. I have inserted the signature after reading on the forum. But the images do not download - the rest of the text in the signature is in place - just the logo and the baseline which is a graphic file does not download.  Please help.

Hi, are the pics at a remote location, or on your Mac?
Have you tried drag & dropping the graphics on the signature window?

  • Apple Mail - HTML Signature Help

I created a html signature that I assumed would work in Apple Mail, but when I send an email I get the images and links not showing up with blue ? appearing.  The signature looks fine in the signatures menu of my preferences.

Making a fancy HTML signature is a little more involved than that. It's not very user friendly. There are a number of tutorials on the internet for hacking them up. Here is one example: http://www.tuaw.com/2010/10/16/mac-101-making-a-fancy-signature-in-mail-app/ and there are many others.
PS - I have asked the hosts to remove all the personal information from your post. You don't want that there.

  • How do i save a signature image in high resolution like the previous version.

when i save a signature image in the new version, the signature is pixelated when the document is zoomed in.
Unlike the previous version, the signature has high image quality

However you can somewhat doi it by creating your logo latge and scaling it down with Htme. Also layer mask and animation palette twend options help.

  • Anchor sign on html signature

I generated an html signature using TB. İmages and writing are all fine, however, there appears an anchor sign/image in front of the signature, which can not be deleted or selected at all. The anchor doesn't disappear once the email is sent. It could still be view on the receivers account. How can I remove it?

If the anchor sign is black on a yellow background then you inserted a named anchor into your signature.
anchors are used to point to another location within the same email.
So if you had a couple of headings which you want people to click on in order to auto jump to another section of the email without having to scroll down. You would create Named Anchors. It is a special link to jump to another section within the same email.
In your case, it would appear that you may have selected 'Insert' > 'Named Anchor' and not required it ? Either create a new signature or edit the saved html file to remove the named anchor.
or maybe you did something like this:
Created a Named Anchor in the signature so that later you could create a link in the email to your eg: contact details which are contained in the signature?
So if people click on the content link they are auto jumped down to your signature ? Very useful if you are creating a lengthy email.
The Anchor sign will show when you open a new write message.
Enter text and maybe a link to the named anchor.
If you save the new Write email into Drafts, you will see that the 'anchor' does not show and the link to the anchor shows as an underlined hyperlink.

  • HTML Signature that is not viewable by other recipients

I have a signature that I use for my company. It is a png file that is about 7k. Some recipients see the signature logo at the bottom of the emails and some do not. What do I need to do so that all email recipients see the logo?

    You sure can!
    Here's a tutorial I used to do this: http://allforces.com/2006/04/14/css-signatures/
Basically, you create an HTML signature using CSS. The trick is to put the image online, and point to it in you HTML file. For example, the picture I use in my signature is actually stored on my googlepages site. I found the URL of the file, then used that in my HTML file. When others open the email, the image displayed is from googlepages, not anything that was attached to the email. The downside is that if someone uses a program like Mail, if they look at the email when they are offline, the image won't display.
The tutorial shows you how to replace a signature file created by Mail with one of your creation - a bit convoluted, but it worked.
Lastly, I haven't asked others what they see from their various email providers. Gmail will pull it up with no pictures and give users the option to either display pictures or not. Outlook shows it fine... not sure about anything other than that.
Let me know if you want an example file you could work with if you are unfamiliar with HTML and CSS. I was clueless but found my way using the site above and the various HTML/CSS tutorials available online.
    Thanks for reading my novel.

  • Does an html signature work with my .me account?

    Hi all,
Created an html signature: used TextEditor, opened in Safari, saved as a webarchive file.
Went to my Signatures file in Library and replaced my existing .mac mail signature (which I simply created within the Mail program) with the new one. Made sure the file name is the same as it was so it will be recognized.
Opened Mail. Clicked to create new message through my .mac mail account. New signature appears just fine. Send message.
When I review Sent Message, there's no signature at all.
Is it being stripped? I ask because I did the same thing for another mail account that's through my domain and web host and it showed up beautifully.
So I know this works. But somehow not working with my .mac mail account. Yes, I uploaded the image for the signature to an external server.
Anyone know what's happening? Thanks for your help!

    For anyone following, problem solved.
When I sent another test email from my mobileme mail account (to another of my mail accounts) a day later, the signature did appear for the recipient. Maybe Apple just delays for security purposes (???)

  • My signature image appears greatly enlarged, how to fix this?

About a month ago, my signature images started showing up much larger than their original size. Not only are they too big, but they're very fuzzy. This means that each time I have to manually shrink them. What happened that they no longer show up at their original size and can it be fixed?
    Thanks.

Can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing on that page? In the meantime try this basic fix: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Happy Holidays

  • Differentiate b/w email attachment and an email signature image attachment

    Hello all,
I have a java program which checks a particular mailbox periodically for new messages sent by users and once there is a new message, it processes that message and copies that message to a particular record. Also if there are any attachments associated with that email, it will take those attachments and attach them to the particular record. All this is working fine. But when a user who is sending an email has an image as part of his email signature, that image is coming as an attachment to my mailbox and my code is picking up that attachment and appending it to the record as a new attachment. Is there a way to differentiate between the normal attachments that a user sends and the email signature image so that I can check for those image attachments before attaching to my record. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There's no standard for these sorts of "email signatures" so there's no guaranteed way to detect them.
A common way to format such a message would be to put the message text as a text/html part
inside a maultipart/related part, with an image/jpeg part containing the image.
Normally attachments should be part of a multipart/mixed part, and should have a Content-Disposition
    of "attachment".
But many mailers play fast and loose with these rules, so you may have to experiment with some
heuristics to detect such signatures reliably.
