Caches that load from a database on a cache miss
Do you have a good example of caches that load from a database on a cache miss for Coherence 3.0. I looked at the crud.zip (CrudStore) but it is for version 2.5 and the class com.tangosol.net.cache.CrudStore is missing
Thanks
Hi rabe,
Take a look at this forums post. It includes an example of the updates CacheStore implementation.

Can OLAP cube load from remote database?
Sorry, been forever since I worked with Express / Oracle OLAP. If I want to build a cube in one database, is AWM able to load data from another database? Or do I have to have to build the cube on the same database where the source is?
Thanks!
ScottYou can load from any local table or view. So the simplest approach is to define a view in your AWM database that selects from the table in the second database. You then map your cube to the local view.

Creating Secure Form that Outputs from a Database?
I need to create a form that pulls data from a database (of any format) based on what the user enters. Specifically, I want a customer to be able to enter their name in a field and output data based on their name. I was about to use a standard PHP mail form methodology, but I realize this would be insecure (I would like to keep my customer list hidden). Can someone offer a suggestion on what I should look for in creating a secure form/database output structure for my site? Even if it's just the name of the method so I can search for a tutorial. Thank you!
Does it matter that anyone could enter the right name in the form to return the customer data? If so you need to use a password.
1. Create a form through which the customer can register their details with a user name and password.
2. On the server side hash the password with something like SHA256 (plenty of open source implementations about or you can create your own).
3. Store the customer details together with a userid and hashed password in the server database
4. Create a form through which the customer can request their details, and asks them for their userid and password.
6. On the server side, rehash the password from the form and request a row from the customer database where the userid and hashed password match an entry
7. Return the customer data if row retrieved from database else return a message saying on data matching those details etc.

Problem with dimension of an image loaded from a database
Hi,
I succeed in saving image in a MSAccess database with this code:
Image img;
image = new ImageIcon("d:\\prova\\comore.jpg");
img=image.getImage();
try{
int[] pix = new int[img.getWidth(null) * img.getHeight(null)];
PixelGrabber pg = new PixelGrabber(img, 0, 0, img.getWidth(this), img.getHeight(this), pix, 0, img.getWidth(this));
pg.grabPixels();
System.out.println(pix.length);
byte[] pixels = new byte[img.getWidth(this) * img.getHeight(this)*4];
for(int j=0;j<pix.length;j++){
pixels[j] = new Integer(pix[j]).byteValue();
String sql="insert into Immagini values ('1',?)";
PreparedStatement ps = con.prepareStatement(sql);
ps.setBytes(1,pix);
ps.executeUpdate();
}catch(Exception except){
except.printStackTrace();
then, I've load the image with this code:
try{
String query = "select * from Immagini where IDprog = 1";
Statement s = con.createStatement();
s.executeQuery(sql);
ResultSet rs=s.getResultSet();
rs.next();
Viaggio vi = new Viaggio(rs.getInt(1),rs.getBytes(2));
byte[] b=vi.getBytesImage();
int[] intImage = new int[b.length];
for(int j=0;j<b.length;j++){
intImage[j]=(int)b[j];
Image img = createImage(new MemoryImageSource(124,100,intImage,0,124));
ImageIcon imgic = new ImageIcon(img);
jLabel3.setIcon(imgic);
}catch(Exception tps){
tps.printStackTrace();
All works correctly;
but I've two problems:
How do I do to take the dimension of the image from the byte array?
infact in the code up written I've used 124 and 100 as image dimension;
but I can have images of different dimension.
The other problem is:
Why in the image that is loaded are not the same number of colors of the image saved, but only a few, so that the image seems to be out of focus?
Thank and excuse me for my english.

Mulitnumeric limits loading from database
Hi, Sir,
I am trying to use property loader step in TestStand to load multinumeric limits from a database table for different measurements in multinumeric test step. The database table has several columns such as: stepname, measurementname, hi/low limits. To load the limits for different measurement correctly using single property loader step, I have to match both the step name and measurement name in its filtering page. My question is how should I do this? More specific, how can I access the measurement name attached with different loading properties during run time?
I do not find any example for this problem. Most examples seem to be for TestStand 1.0, which has no multinumerica test step type.
Thank you for your help.
YinYin,
In your database, you should have a column for each high and low limit and comparison for each multiple numeric limit test step. For example, if I have 2 measurements in my multiple numeric limit test step, I will have the following columns: StepName, Result_Measurement_0_Comp, Result_Measurement_0_Limits_High, Result_Measurement_0_Limits_Low,
Result_Measurement_1_Comp, Result_Measurement_1_Limits_High, Result_Measurement_1_Limits_Low.
After your database is set up, you would use the property loader step to read the values in during run-time. If you insert a property loader step and configure the Data Location to be a database, you can configure which database and table you want to read from. Then near the bottom of the property loader dialog, there are two fields. One is for Property Name and the other is for Column Name/Number. You use these fields to assign a certain column to a certain property. So for this case, we would choose one of the limit properties that we want to load from the database and assign that to a certain column. For example, the Property Name would be Result.Measurement[0].Comp and its corresponding Column Name/Number would be the database column Result_Measurement_0_Comp. The next Property Name would be Result.Measurement[0].Limits.High and its corresponding Column Name/Number would be the database column Result_Measurement_0_Limits_High. You would continue to assign a particular column to each property that you want to read in.
In using the Property Loader step type, it is immensely helpful to use the Import/Export Properties tool to create the database, Excel file, or text file because the tool will create these files with the correct format. You would then know exactly how many columns and their names because TestStand created them for you. Even if you plan to use a pre-existing source file, just creating the default source file will give you a better idea of how you will need to tailor your pre-existing database or excel or text file.
If you have other questions, let us know.

How to copy a set of tables from a database to another periodically?
We have a 4 node RAC primary database(10.2.0.2) with a physical standby(10.2.0.2) on our production site. Offlate we noticed that one of the applications(APP2) is causing heavy loads due large data downloads on the primary database servers. Our primary database has 2 schemas,
1) one being the main schema with all objects, (USER1)
2) and the other has views that query some set of tables from the main schema. (USER2)
The application APP2 uses USER2 views to query and download huge data periodically. We need to be able to give accurate data results to APP2, but in the same time take off the load from the database, as APP2 is not our main application.
We would like to know if there are any cost effective options in oracle to do this, and if so, what is the best option? Anyone has any experience setting up something like this before?
We have thought of creating another 10.2.0.2 database on a different server and giving it regular updates(like data feeds) from the current database. The current database data changes quiet often, so the data feeds would have to be done often to keep the data current on the new database. So, we are not exactly sure how to go about it. Would a COPY command help?
Please advice.user623066 wrote:
Our 4 node RAC is already busy with our main application, which has its connections spread across all 4 nodes.
Our main applications services are the same on all nodes and use all 4 nodes in the same way.
There are some other utilities that we run from one of the app servers that connect to only 1 of the nodes.
APP2 uses all 4 servers, which is again controlled by connection pooling and distributes the load.Wouldn't separate services be more beneficial here? If APP2 is locked down to one node during normal operation, that ensures that other connections aren't going to be competing for hardware with APP2 on 3 of the 4 nodes. If APP2 is generating less than 25% of the total load, you can let the other applications use whatever hardware resources are left idle on the node APP2 is locked down to.
By Large data downloads, I meant both increase in network traffic and the CPU load on the database nodes.
We are already using resouce manager to limit the resources allocated to USER2 that APP2 uses.
And we have also limited the large downloads to take place in the early hours of the day when the traffic from our main application is less.
But this has still not been optimal for the usage requirements for APP2. APP2 is also doing queries all through the day, but has a limit for the number of rows downloaded during peak hours.Can you explain a bit more about why using Resource Manager hasn't been sufficient? That's normally a pretty good way to prevent one hungry user from drastically affecting everyone else. Perhaps you just need to tweak the configuration here.
Logical Standby seems a good option. But we need to keep our physical standby in place. Is it possible to have a logical standby and a physical standby? (ofcourse on separate servers)Sure. You can have as many standby servers of whatever type you'd like.
Could we use a COPY command to copy data for the set of tables to a new database? Or is that also a complex option?You could, yes. COPY is a SQL*Plus command that has been depricated for copying data between Oracle databases for quite a while. It only works from SQL*Plus and would only be designed for one-time operations (i.e. there is no incremental COPY command). I can just about guarantee that's not what you want here.
How do materialized views work? Wouldn't they still reside on the main database? Or is it possible to have remote materialized views?You probably don't want materialized views, but if you decide to go down that path
- You'd create materialized view logs on the base tables to track changes
- You'd create materialized views on the destination database that select data over a database link back to the source database
- You'd put those materialized views into one or more refresh groups that are scheduled to refresh periodically
- During a refresh, assuming incremental refreshes, the materialized view logs would be read and applied to the materialized views on the destination system to update the materialized views.

Database Smart Flash Cache and Data Guard
We are on Oracle 11.2.0.2 on OEL 5 and our considering buying fusion io (PCIe flash drives) for our Production (Primary) database.
My question is; Can we use Physical Data Guard with the Primary side using Database Smart Flash Cache and keep-ing tables and/or partitions in the Flash Cache and have a Standby side that does not have Database Smart Flash Cache?Yes you can.
Data Guard will not check what type drive you are using. As long as you meet the database and network requirements it will work.

Starting yesterday (I believe) we are suddenly receiving a "User not found" error when trying to view a user's profile page when clicking on their name (in search or elsewhere) via the url
https://www.contoso.org/Person.aspx?accountname=contoso%255Cmyuserlogin
This is happening for all users. (but profiles exist and seem ok, and sync with AD is running fine) When looking in the logs I see the error (full ULS log is later below)
Exception in LoadRequestedUserProfile: (Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserNotFoundException: User Not Found: Could not load profile data from the database.
The only clue of what MAY be going on is just before that I see the following two lines which came up after I changed the Database logging to Verbose:
ConnectionString: 'Data Source=INSTANCE;Initial Catalog=UPAPROFILEDB;Integrated Security=True;Enlist=False;Pooling=True;Min Pool Size=0;Max Pool Size=100;Connect Timeout=15;Application Name=SharePoint[w3wp][3][UPAPROFILEDB]' Partition:
NULL ConnectionState: Closed ConnectionTimeout: 15
SQL connection time: 0.0456 for Data Source=INSTANCE;Initial Catalog=UPAPROFILEDB;Integrated Security=True;Enlist=False;Pooling=True;Min Pool Size=0;Max Pool Size=100;Connect Timeout=15;Application Name=SharePoint[w3wp][3][HNet3_Svc_Prod_UPA_Profile]
If I am reading that correctly, does it mean the connection to the database is timing out instantly? I am able to use powershell to pull up profiles and print them to the screen while on the webservers. And it's only the one specific page that is not
working.
What sort of tests or further debugging can I do for the error above?
We are on premise, SharePoint 2013 sp1, sql2012, server 2012, claims using the full SharePoint Profiile Sychronization against AD. Farm has been running since last august. Last week the admin team did run windows update on all servers, I can't be sure
if it was broken for 5 days and no one noticed or if it broke yesterday.
I already did the following:
Verified the profiles do exist in central admin.
I can still access their personal sites directly via
https://www.contoso.org/personal/myuserlogin
I checked the ProfileDB database and made sure the service accounts for the UPA has dbowner, so does the farm account, and the web application pool has SPDataAccess.
Verified the AD sync account has proper rights in AD.
I reran a full synchronization which ran with no errors.
File systems on the webservers and appserver have plenty of free space.
Rebooted every server in farm
I even checked the bin directory of the mysite webapplication, (since once I had a weird problem where access to bin was removed.) WSS_ADMIN_WPG, WSS_RESTRICTED_WPG_W4 have full control and WSS_WPG,IIS_IUSRS all have read and execute.
I opened powershell on the webserver I can indeed load profiles and print their values.

How to pre - load all database rows into cache

Please kindly provide a solution.

SHi Rich,
Imagine I have just downloaded coherence, I have run a server with the default config. From what you said to S coherence can pull the data from database itself WITHOUT me having to push it to coherence? If so can you please explain how this done, or point me at a guide?You might start with [Read-Through Caching|http://coherence.oracle.com/display/COH34UG/Read-Through%2C+Write-Through%2C+Write-Behind+and+Refresh-Ahead+Caching#Read-Through%2CWrite-Through%2CWrite-BehindandRefresh-AheadCaching-ReadThroughCache] to understand how Coherence can pull data. It is the implementation of a CacheLoader that enables the Coherence cache to pull the data.
The cache configuration that S provided specifies a read-write-backing-map-scheme indicating that HibernateCacheStore class should be used by Coherence and is similar to the configuration discussed at [Using Hibernate as a CacheStore for Coherence|http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH34UG/Using+Hibernate+as+a+CacheStore+for+Coherence]. In responding to the original question, I was assuming that the data source being queried to be loaded into the cache is the same as the data source fronted by the Hibernate configuration.
Secondly with the respects to the answer to my question. If I don't care about versioning ... do I need a EvolvablePortableObject? If you really don't want to version your serialized representations, you can implement the PortableObject interface instead but the additional cost of implementing EvolvablePortableObject is small and the potential benefit is great.
So my question is, can coherence pull the data from the database using a preload request and serialize into a pof format without me having to push the data to coherence via a separate app? And if so could you please explain how? Or direct me at some documentation?You do not need to push data to Coherence via a separate app. Coherence can pull the data from the database. Coherence can also preload the cache using an EntryProcessor. You can configure Coherence to use POF and will need to implement POF serialization methods for your cache objects.
The [Partitioned cache with a serializer|http://coherence.oracle.com/display/COH34UG/Sample+Cache+Configurations#SampleCacheConfigurations-Partitionedcacheofadatabase] example and the links it provides should provide sufficient documentation for configuring and using POF.
Whether you decide to use the HibernateCacheStore, the TopLinkCacheStore or implement your own CacheStore or CacheLoader class to access your data in your database is your decision. You should be able to find sufficient documentation and examples to help you decide how you would like to use Coherence at the [Coherence Knowledge Base|http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH/Oracle+Coherence+Knowledge+Base+Home]. I would recommend starting with the [User Guide|http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH34UG/Coherence+3.4+Home] if you would like to get a better grasp of the overall architecture.

How can i load file into database from client-side to server-side
i want to upload file from client-side to server-side, i use the following code to load blob into database.
if the file is in the server-side, it can work, but if it in the client-side, it said that the system cannot find the file. i think it only will search the file is in the server-side or not, it will not search the client-side.
how can i solve it without upload the file to the server first, then load it into database??
try
ResultSet rset = null;
PreparedStatement pstmt =
conn.prepareStatement ("insert into docs values (? , EMPTY_BLOB())");
pstmt.setInt (1, docId);
pstmt.execute ();
// Open the destination blob:
pstmt.setInt (1, docId);
rset = pstmt.executeQuery (
"SELECT content FROM docs WHERE id = ? FOR UPDATE");
BLOB dest_lob = null;
if (rset.next()) {
dest_lob = ((OracleResultSet)rset).getBLOB (1);
// Declare a file handler for the input file
File binaryFile = new File (fileName);
FileInputStream istream = new FileInputStream (binaryFile);
// Create an OutputStram object to write the BLOB as a stream
OutputStream ostream = dest_lob.getBinaryOutputStream();
// Create a tempory buffer
byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
int length = 0;
// Use the read() method to read the file to the byte
// array buffer, then use the write() method to write it to
// the BLOB.
while ((length = istream.read(buffer)) != -1)
ostream.write(buffer, 0, length);
pstmt.close();
// Close all streams and file handles:
istream.close();
ostream.flush();
ostream.close();
//dest_lob.close();
// Commit the transaction:
conn.commit();
conn.close();
} catch (SQLException e) {Hi,
Without some more details of the configuration, its difficult to know
what's happening here. For example, what do you mean by client side
and server side, and where are you running the upload Java application?
If you always run the application on the database server system, but can't
open the file on a different machine, then it sounds like a file protection
problem that isn't really connected with the database at all. That is to
say, if the new FileInputStream (binaryFile) statement fails, then its not
really a database problem, but a file protection issue. On the other hand,
I can't explain what's happening if you run the program on the same machine
as the document file (client machine), but you can't write the data to the
server, assuming the JDBC connection string is set correctly to connect to
the appropriate database server.
If you can provide some more information, we'll try to help.

Hi guys
I am newbie in vb net and I want your help to solve a problem.
I have this datagridview with two columns and all days of a month in custom columns.
[IMG]http://i59.tinypic.com/2qwpj15.png[/IMG]
I also have one combobox to change Year and a combobox to change Month.
Here is the code to load data
Private Sub fill_plan()
dgMonth.Rows.Clear()
Try
Dim i As Integer = 0
Dim query As String = "SELECT MonID,Unitname,Personel,Udate FROM tblMonth ORDER BY Unitname"
con.Open()
cmd = New OleDbCommand(query, con)
myDR = cmd.ExecuteReader
If myDR.HasRows Then
While myDR.Read
dgMonth.Rows.Add()
dgMonth.Rows(i).Cells(0).Value = myDR.GetInt32(myDR.GetOrdinal("MonID"))
dgMonth.Rows(i).Cells(1).Value = myDR.GetString(myDR.GetOrdinal("Unitname"))
dgMonth.Rows(i).Cells(2).Value = myDR.GetInt32(myDR.GetOrdinal("Personel"))
i = i + 1
End While
End If
myDR.Close() : con.Close()
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.Message, MsgBoxStyle.Critical, "Error")
End Try
End Sub
With
this code the
personel column
loads the first
day of the month.
I want to load
the column the date that is
in the database.Hello,
This can be done with less code
Private Sub fill_plan()
dgMonth.DataSource = Nothing
Dim dt As New DataTable
Try
Dim query As String = "SELECT MonID,Unitname,Personel,Udate FROM tblMonth ORDER BY Unitname"
con.Open()
cmd = New OleDbCommand(query, con)
dt.Load(cmd.ExecuteReader)
dgMonth.DataSource = dt
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.Message, MsgBoxStyle.Critical, "Error")
End Try
End Sub
The above loads all rows, if you want to limit the rows placed in the DataGridView this is best done in the SQL via WHERE conditions and/or with SELECT TOP x.
Formatting of the data is best done via the property window for the DataGridView on whatever column you want too. Using the above you now need to set the data property for each column and set dgMonth.AutoGenerateColumns = False, in the end we end up with
less code
edit is there a reason for returning the primary key? If so then using my method we can hide that field but I see no reason for having it in this case
Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help, this will help others who are looking for solutions to the same or similar problem. -
Load image from SQL database with ASP?
Hello,
Does anyone know a tutorial where you can load an image from
a SQL database ?
I would like to show this image in Flash, but i don't know
how to load in from a SQL database using ASP.
Regards,
MichealFlash cannot load images from an SQL database.
Flash can load JPEG, PNG, GIF, SWF, MP3, and FLV files.
An SQL database can be used to store the file names and their
location. ASP can retrieve that data from the SQL and return to
Flash to load the above file formats.
For Flash to do the communication with ASP you need to
determine if you are using URL Encoded or XML data structures.
For URL Encoded data you look at
LoadVars.sendAndLoad
For XML Encoded data you look at
XML.sendAndLoad
Then in their onLoad methods you use
MovieClip.loadMovie
to load JPEG, GIF, PNG and SWF;
Sound.loadSound
for MP3,
NetConnection.connect,
Video.attachVideo and NetStream.play for FLV.
For the ASP side the work with the database has nothing to do
with Flash other than using any search variable sent from Flash
with LoadVars.sendAndLoad or XML.sendAndLoad. In other words it
could be an HTML form sending the same variable and calling the
same ASP script. Same with returning values except with Flash only
URL Encoded or XML data structures are sent back and not
HTML. -
Loading an Image from the database and display it on browser
I do not know if this is even possible.
At the moment, to load an image inside an Html page you need to use the <img src=""> tag. and in the src you put the path of the image. Now I would like to save an image inside the database.
An option to still display the image on the browser would be that my service object, would load the object from the database (saved as blob) then save it somewhere on the Server, and the still use the <img> tag to load the image from that location.
However I was wondering wheather there is another way to do it without saving this image on the server. that is loading the bytes from the database (or a location on the server) and provided these bytes to the jsp page to display the image.
Is this possible? or?
regards,
sim085hmm ... ok .. that sounds good .. but that means that
a servlet must exsist at all time to display the
required image.Servlets are usually instantiated by the servlet container upon an incoming request. -
Ignoring cache - selecting directly from database
I have a scenario where several tables will be mapped using Toplink for the data access benefits, but will be updated ouside of the Toplink process. Obviously this behavior negates the beneift of caching in toplink and I need a reliable way to bypass the cache when selecting from these tables.
The only method I've found in my testing to overcome this problem is to select "Always Refresh" and "Disable Cache Hits" on the related entities in the Toplink Mapping Workbench. All other configurations, including setting the identity map size to 0 will return stale instances of these objects.
I've also tried invoking dontCheckCache() and setCacheUsage() on my query with the understanding, based on the API documentation, that the cache would be ignored for the query. In both cases the returned object was retrieved from the cache and not the database.
While the workbench solution will suffice for my purposes, I would like to know if there are other methods of ignoring the cache. Also, I'm curious about why the query methods I've mentioned don't seem to have any affect on the source of the resulting objects.
I am using Toplink v9.0.3Using "Always Refresh" and "Disable Cache Hits" is probably the best method to ensure that no cached data is every returned from queries. If you are using optimistic locking you may also use "onlyRefreshCacheIfNewerVersion" in conjunction with these.
For the full/weak identity maps the size is only the default map size, it will grow as objects are added, so setting this to 0 will have no effect on what is cached, you could set the cache type to NoIdentityMap ("None") to achieve this, but usage of alwaysRefreshCache is a better way as is still preserves object identity.
The query options dontCheckCache() and setCacheUsage() are in-memory querying options, they effect how cache hits are obtained, but do not effect how the objects are cached or refreshed. To refresh objects at the query level use refreshIdentityMapResult() ("Refresh"). Using refresh at the query level should also meet your needs, and may be better than setting the alwaysRefreshCache option on the descriptor as then you can control which queries refresh and which can obtain cache hits. (for example you may want to query for employees to refresh, but allow the query for the 1-1 backreference for phone numbers to obtain a cache hit). For refresh queries you can also set the refresh cascade depth. -
