Caching configuration (Times Ten - Oracle 10g)

Hi all,
I have managed to setup Times Ten and get a cache group configured against a table in an oracle 10g instance.
That all works so great. My question is how do I define a set of cache groups and get Times Ten to load them in automatically all together. So what I am saying, is I dont want to have to enter these cache group definitions in manually via ttisql command line (as I have done this time).
Could someone please point me in the right direction with this? Also I would like to be able to set TT up such that the cache agent is automatically started. Is this possible?
Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,
In the same way that you can create cache groups through a ttIsql script you can also load them from a script using the LOAD CACHE GROUP and REFRESH CACHE GROUP commands.
However, let's remember that TimesTen is a persistent database and so you should not need to re-create the cache groups nor re-load them just becasue you have stopped and started TimesTen. The cache group definitions and data will still be present as they are persistently stored. Also, if you have a READONLY or USERMANAGED cache group using AUTOREFRESH then the changes that occur in oracle are captured and refreshed to the cache group(s) automatically.
As for starting the cache agent 9or the repagent0 automatically, this kind of depends on how you are managing the startup/shutdown of the cache datastore (i.e. what itss ramPolicy is). You can set the cachePolicy for the datastore using ttAdmin as follows:
ttAdmin -cachePolicy always DSNname
this tells TimesTen that the cache agent should always be running for this datastore. However, a side effect of this is that the datastore will allways be loaded in memory when the TimesTen instance is up (i.e. the TimesTen main daemon is running). If you want to be able to start and stop the datastore manually (or from a script) then you will likely be using a ramPolicy of manual and running some script to load/unload the datastore into/from memory. If so then just add the relevant ttadmin -cacheStart|-cacheStop commands to that script.

  • OEM configuration issue in Oracle 10g

    Hi,
I am trying to manually configure OEM on oracle 10g solaris platform (5.10). Earlier I have configured the OEM manually on the same server and then due to customer request de-configure it. But now again, I need to re-configure OEM on same server and facing issue.
Steps which I am following are :-
    -> Listener is started
-> Database is up and running.
-> Creating repository through command emca -repos create
-> Configuring the dbconsole through command emca -config dbcontrol db
At this step after providing the information of database name, listener port, Password for SYS user,Password for DBSNMP user,Password for SYSMAN user,Email address for notifications (optional): [email protected],Outgoing Mail (SMTP) server for notifications (optional): wbmlir1.mail.xerox.com, it is giving the below error that db console cannot be started.

  • Configuring proc* with oracle 10g

please help me configuring proc* in oracle 10g express edition
    operating system-ubuntu 10.10
if it cannot be done please suggest an alternative
    thanks

Ok, when I look at the /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/precomp/admin directory under XE on Ubuntu, I don't see Pro*C related configuration files.
(this is from our full Oracle Client on Linux) :
    /home/oracle/product/10.2.0/Linux64/precomp/admin/
    ls will show:
    ottcfg.cfg* pcbcfg.cfg* pccfor.cfg* pcscfg.cfg* pmscfg.cfg* shrept.lst
suggestion: you can get/use the Pro*C related files from the Oracle Instant Client. That will fix your problem.
    Check the Instant Client downloads:

    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/instant-client/index-097480.html
note: here is how my pcscfg.cfg (Pro*C config file looks like)
    cat pcscfg.cfg
    sys_include=(/usr/include,/usr/lib/gcc-lib/x86_64-redhat-linux/3.2.3/include,/usr/X11R6/include)

  • Configure dbstart script Oracle 10g Oracle Enterprise Linux

Hallo!I am a newbie in Oracle 10g having installed Oracle 10g in Oracle Enterprise Linux version 4 update 7.
Please give me a step-by step guide of how to configure dbstart script such that I can start the listener, the database ,Enterprise Manager and isqlplus automatically at boot time.
    Thanks.

dbstart does not work correctly in 10.2.0.4 and 10.2.0.5 (solaris 64bit) I did not try it in 10.2.0.1.
If you look at this thread you will see some discussion of the problem: "dbstart" command error in Oracle10g_Linux
I tried the fix from that thread and dbstart still does not work.
Both dbstart and dbshut are required to have the oracle_home path passed to them as the first argument per the 10gR2 Administrators reference for Unix systems.

    Hi,
My procedure taking time in following statement while database upgrading from oracle 9i to oracle 10g.
    I m using oracle version 10.2.0.4.0.
cust_item is matiralize view in procedure and it is refreshing in the procedure
Index is dropping before inserting data into cust_item_tbl TABLE and after inserting data index is created.
There are almost 6 lac records into MV which are going to insert into TABLE.

According to the execution plan you posted parallelism is not taking place - no parallel operations listed
Check the hint syntax. In particular, "PARALLEL" does not look right.
Running queries in parallel can either help performance, hurt performance, or do nothing for performance. In your case a parallel index scan on MFIPROCESS.INDX_TEMP_CUST_AUTH_PERF_MV using the PARALLEL_INDEX hint and the PARALLEL hint specifying the table for MAT_VIEW MFIPROCESS.TEMP_CUST_AUTH_PERF_MV Cost might help, something like (untested)
select /*+ PARALLEL_INDEX(INDX_TEMP_CST_AUTH_PERF_MV) PARALLEL(TEMP_CUST_AUTHPERF_MV) */Is query rewrite causing the MVs to be read? If so hinting the query will be tricky

Thanks Sir for your immense help. I used the hint /*+ optimizer_features_enable('9.2.0.8') */ and the query took only 2 seconds. I am really delighted.
Sorry for not clicking the 'helpful' button earlier since honestly I did not know about the rules. Going forward I will not forget to do that.Don't apologise, it wasn't intended as a personal criticism - it's just a footnote I tend to use at present as a general reminder to everyone that feedback is useful.
I have one question. Do i have to use this hint for each and every query that is becoming a headache or is their any permanent solution to fix all the queries that used to run good on 9.2.0.8 database ? Please suggest. When doing an upgrade it is always valid (in the short term) to set the optimizer_features_enable parameter to the value of the database your moving from so that you can get the code improvements (or bug fixes) of the newer software without risking execution plan changes.
After that the ideal is to test software and identify generic cases where a change like an index definition, or some statistical information needs to be corrected for a particular reason in classes of queries. Eventually you get down to the point where you have a few awkward queries which the optimizer can't handle where you need hints. The optimizer_features_enable is very convenient here. In 10g, however, you could then capture the older plan and record is as an SQL Baseline against the unhinted query rather than permanently including hints.

  • Solaris 10 configuration parameters for Oracle 10g

    Hello all,
    I have installed:
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit
on the latest version of Solaris 10 SPARC. My /etc/project file looks as follows:
    user.oracle:101:Oracle:::process.max-sem-nsems=(privileged,256,deny);project.max-shm-ids=(privileged,256,deny);project.max-shm-memory=(privileged,17179869184,deny)
I followed the installation guide for 10g and used the max-sem-nsems and max-shm-ids that were recommended. However, the guide was for a 4GB SGA and we are using a 8GB SGA on a machine with 32GB of memory.
Now, my question is, do those nsem and shm-id parameters hold true for larger SGAs? We are having a problem that, when new oracle shadows are created, any processes that check the /proc table becomes painfully slow.

As allways kernel parameter could be found in documentation: http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15667/pre_install.htm#sthref258
Maybe you will be intersted in Werner Pushitz's article "Tuning and Optimizing Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Oracle 9i and 10g Databases" - http://www.puschitz.com/TuningLinuxForOracle.shtml
SGA, PGA. If you are not sure with proper sizeing then you can read this document - http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14211/memory.htm#PFGRF014
Note since 10g there is new feature called "Automatic Shared Memory Management"

  • Query taking long time in oracle 10g

I have a query which runs in 1 minute in oracle 8 but it takes 2 hours in oracle 10. The query has couple of sub queries to select the max effective date as wee as current effective sequence. I checked the parameters and their values are as follows. I want to know whether any values can be increased to make it run faster. Also I did not find the parameter unnestsubquery, I think it should be set to FALSE but did not find the value when I did select * from v$parameter. Is it set to false value by default or should i explicitly declare it. Thanks

  • "In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition

    Hi,
In one of our applications, we are using TimesTen 5.1.24 and Oracle 9i
    databases (platform - Solaris 9i).
TimesTen holds application information which needs to be accessed quickly
and Oracle 9i is a master application database.
Now we are looking at an option of migrating from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g
database. While exploring about Oracle 10g features, came to know about
"In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle Enterprise Edition. This made
me to think about using Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition with "In-Memory
Database Cache" option for our application.
Following are the advantages that I could visualize by adopting the
    above-mentioned approach:
    1. Data reconciliation between Oracle and TimesTen is not required (i.e.
data can be maintained only in Oracle tables and for caching "In-Memory
    Database Cache" can be used)
    2. Data maintenance is easy and gives one view access to data
I have following queries regarding the above-mentioned solution:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
"In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?
    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
    Database Cache"?
In "Options and Packs" chapter in Oracle documentation
    (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/options.htm
#CIHJJBGA), I encountered the following statement:
"For the purposes of licensing Oracle In-Memory Database Cache, only the
processors on which the TimesTen In-Memory Database component of the
In-Memory Database Cache software is installed and/or running are counted
for the purpose of determining the number of licenses required."
We have servers with the following configuration. Is there a way to get the
count of processors on which the Cache software could be installed and/or
    running? Please assist.
Production box with 12 core 2 duo processors (24 cores)
Pre-production box with 8 core 2 duo processors (16 cores)
Development and test box with 2 single chip processors
Development and test box with 4 single chip processors
Development and test box with 6 single chip processors
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vijay

    Hi Vijay,
    regarding your questions:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
"In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
==> Product has just been renamed and integrated better with the Oracle database - Times-Ten == In-Memory-Cache-Database
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    ==> Seperate Installation
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    ==> Please have a look here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/timesten/quickstart/cc_qs_index.html
    This explains the differences.
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?
==> Please see above mentioned papers
    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
    Database Cache"?
    ==> Again ... ;-)
    Kind regards
    Mike

  • Problem using template in database configuration assistant Oracle 10g

    Hi,
I created a database using the database configuration assistant for Oracle 10g on a Windows Server 2003 box. The database I created worked perfectly, and I had saved it as a template so I could save some time when creating similar databases (which I have to do on occasion)
When I try to use the template though, I get an error (at about 4% through the database creation) saying:
    ORA-01501: CREATE DATABASE failed
ORA-09314: sltln: error translating logical name
I'm creating this new database on the same server as the one I created my previous database on and NOTHING has changed on it, I did this just minutes apart and can duplicate it at will (just try and use a template)
Heres the template file contents (KM1.dbt)
