CAD SQL Instance Name match

Looking for clarification on CAD installation with SQL Data Store. The CAD Installation Guide states "It is required that your system include a separate SQL Server instance that hosts the CAD base services (on both servers in a replicated system). This is under the Configuring Microsoft SQL Server 2005 for CAD section.
Do the SQL instance name for the side A and B servers need to match ? I believe the answer is yes but want to make sure.

Yes, use the same name.  A few steps down there is the statement:
"NOTE: It is recommended that you name the SQL instance that CAD will use CADSQL. Although, you can name this SQL instance anything you would like, the directions for this guide are written for use with CADSQL. You might have to deviate from these instructions if you do not use the name CADSQL."

  • Get current SQL instance name with PowerShell

    Hi all,
I'm preparing SQL agent job that will backup all jobs on SQL server. Main step is PoswerShell script. I want that job to be universal for all servers. The first parameter that I need to send to script is instancename.
I want to use variable as InctanceName parameter. So, when I run this job on particular server this variable must get current SQL instance name.
I can use $env:computername for default instances but I cannot use it with named instances or with clustered instances. Some solutions like using 'HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\Instance Names\SQL' keys won't work because of number of
instanses can be running on one machine.
How to get only current SQL instance name?

    Hi,
    Thank you for your answers.
    I found this solution:
    $serverInstance = "$(ESCAPE_DQUOTE(SRVR))"
    Working perfect.

  • SCOM 2012 Installation problem - SQL Instance name

    Hi All
Strange problem here, I wonder if anyone else has had the same issue.
I have a two-node SQL Server 2014 (Enterprise) Database server configured with a "SQL AlwaysOn Availability Group & Listener". The listener DNS name is: sql-ag-listener
On a separate server VM I attempted to install SCOM 2012 R2 - but when it came to the setup prompt to enter the "Servername & Instance" for the SQL server / Databases it will not accept my SQL AG Listener DNS name. However if I enter any
of the two individual SQL node names (SQL1 or SQL2) then it does accept those values and proceeds with the setup wizard. I do have a DNS entry for the SQL AG name.
All VMs are hosted in Azure. The SQL Servers are in their own Cloud Service and the SCOM MS Servers are in their own Cloud service.
I tried moving one of the SCOM MS Servers to the same Cloud Service container as the SQL Servers - still the same result.
Interestingly (as a test) - I started the SCOM 2012 Installation wizard on one of the SQL Servers and it DID accept the SQL AG value as the "Servername & Instance".
No firewalls are on. The VM endpoints allow SQL port 1433. Also, I can Telnet to the SQL Servers using 'telnet > O sql-ag-listener 1433' - response = Connected....
Not sure why this wont accept my virtual SQL AG name....?
    thanks

    Hi,
As when you install SCOM on one of your SQL server, then the AG name can be resolved, so it seems like this issue related with network resolution.
On the server where you want to run SCON setup, please use NSLOOKUP command to make sure it can the AG name to an IP address.
In addition, when you run the setup, don't select reporting server, as reporting server role need to install on a SQL server holding SSRS.
We still can install SCOM on normal database, and then add them into availability group later:

For the manual create the CNO usually cause may issue, you'd better don't use that method.

  • Multiple SQL instance's in Web Platform installer

    Hi Team,
Why it is not possible to install multiple instance's in Microsoft Web Platform Installer?
Or any options to customize the SQL Instance name during the installation through Web platform installer?
    Kind Regards,
    Arun

    Hi Arun,
Microsoft Web Platform Installer runs a basic default installation, when you install SQL Server through Web Platform Installer, it uses default configuration values in installing process , including using the default instance name ’SQLExpress’. If you want
to change the SQL Server instance name or install additional SQL Server instances on your computer, you will need to perform a custom installation, then you can obtain SQL Server Express from the
Microsoft Download Center. For more details, please review this blog:
How should I Install SQL Server 2008.
In addition, if you have other questions about Web Platform Installer. I suggest you post the question in the Web Platform Installer forums at
http://forums.iis.net/1155.aspx/1?Web+Platform+Installer . It is appropriate and more experts will assist you.
    Thanks,

The system cannot find the file specified
I have tried from so many forms. This is so frustrating. Thank for everyone/anyone who wants to help. So this is what happened: I had to uninstall my previous sqlserver 2012(which worked great) for some reason, and I uninstalled everything from that download.
Then I installed the trial edition of sql server 2012 (64 Bit) and It wouldn't connect to the database. (Error mentioned above.) My local DB is COWBOYS. (COWBOYS is also my computer name.) After this, I have tried downloading sqlexpress and sqlserver 64bit
many times and cannot connect to my local DB.
How do I connect to my Local DB?
Also, I think this might help: (When I run sqlserve.exe, which I was able to find in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\LocalDB\Binn, I get an error: Your SQL server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with(Error getting
instance ID from name). Please uninstall then re-run setup to correct this problem.
I would happily re install it, if it wasn't my 20th time.
I don't have any remote connections, I don't use username/password, only window authentication. I work mostly on visual studio, but without able to store /retrieve data, I don't know how to survive.
May be the solution is very simple, but I am too frustrated.
Some of the things I have tried:
From a command prompt, enter one of the following commands:
net start "SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER)" OR
net start "SQL Server Agent(instancename)"(for instance)
on my sql configuration, I cannot start anything because there is nothing there to start. I can post more details, if that would help. Also, some more details about the error:

Any one that can help me, I will be greatful. Thank you so much. p.s. please ask me anything if you have any questions.

It sounds like there are a couple things going on here.  First check if you have a successful install of SQL Server, then we'll figure out the connection issues.
Can you launch SQL Server Configuration Manager and check for SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) if default instance or SQL Server (other name) if you've configured your instance as a named instance.  Once you find this, make sure the service is started.
If not started, try to start it and see if it throws an error.  If you get an error, post the error message your hitting.  If the service starts, you can then launch SSMS and try to connect.  If you have a default instance, you can use the machine
name in the connection dialog.  Ex:  "COWBOYS" where Cowboys is the machine name.  However, if you named the SQL Server instance during install, you'll need to connect using the machine\instance format.  Ex:  COWBOYS\Romo (where Romo
is the instance name you set during install).
You can also look at the summary.txt file in the SQL Server setup error logs to see what happened on the most recent install.  Past install history is archived in the log folder if you need to dig those up to help troubleshoot, but the most
recent one may help get to the bottom of it if there is an issue with setup detecting a prior instance that needs to be repaired.

    How Can i solve this?

    1. Make sure SQL Server Service is running
    2. If a named instance, make sure SQL Server browser service is running
    3. Make sure SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections
    4. Examine the SQL Server error log for messages confirming that SQL is listening on the expected network interfaces and ports
    5. Test server connectivity with PING from the client machine
    6. Test port connectivity using TELNET or PowerShell to the server and port (from step 4) from the client machine.  For example
    a. TELNET <server-name> 1433
    b. PowerShell: 1433 | % { echo ((new-object Net.Sockets.TcpClient).Connect("YourServerName",$_)) "server listening on TCP port $_" }
    7. Check firewall settings if step 5 or 6 connectivity test fails

  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with SP2: 'SQLEXPRESS'-instance installation fails while any other instance name installation succeeds.

We supply our software package that also includes the unattended installation (with /QS and so on) of SQL Server R2 Express (with SP2).
The setup works good in about 99.9% cases, but one customer complained that after the "successful SQL Sever installation (at least, it looked so!) he could not open the supplied database getting some strange error messages...
After some months of trial-n-error attempts we are now able to reproduce the problems this custumer had. But we cannot find the reason of the problem.

When we chose some other instance name then the installation has completed successfully.
    So the questions are:
What could be the reason of the problem (and only for SQLEXPRESS instance that was earlier installed and then uninstalled)? I will provide the complete Detail.txt file if needed.
How could we check (if we could) the conditions so some name would be allowed as an instance name for SQL Server installer to success?
    With the best regards,

    Thank you Lydia!
Unfortunately the simple check the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\Instance Names\SQL does /did not work in our case since there is no any instance
    name there,
However there seem to be some "rudiments" under
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and/or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services.
So I will now try to check the subkeys of these two keys as it was mentioned by Xiao-Min Tan.

  • SQL Cluster with FQDN only (no instance names)

Is it possible to setup a SQL failover cluster with multiple instances but basically be named the "default instance".
Right now I have three instances: AAA, BBB, and CCC. With failover clusters you associate each SQL instance with its own Drive, its own cluster name, etc. So right now this is how you connect:
    aaa.db.domain.com\AAA
    bbb.db.domain.com\BBB
    ccc.db.domain.com\CCC
Is there a way that you can make it where people can connect by not providing an instance name? Because there is always only one instance per virtual server / fqdn:
    aaa.db.domain.com
    bbb.db.domain.com
    ccc.db.domain.com
I hope I explained well enough. Thanks in advance!

So Azure is not using a regular SQL server? I figured they were just using SQL 2014 or such because they offer Azure services for on-premisis now in your own datacenter.
SQL Azure is definitely not the same as an on-premises SQL Server.

  • Universe on SQL Server names instance

    Hi All,
I am very new to BO and like to get some information regarding the data sources that BO support.
I am using Business Obejcts Enterprise XI 2 release. And can I use SQL Server named instance as the data source. If so, how do I set the universe connection parameters. I select the DSN name and pass username and password. Ane when i create DSN, at the server name select SQLSERVER\INSTANCE NAME.
I appreciate if anyone can help me
    palam01

    Hi,
You can create connection using generic ODBC and odbc for sql server also.
For that first you have to create a DSN from the control panel-->data sources.
Create a DataSource  using the database you want to use.
Now go to Universe>New>type the universe name
Click on new connection >Next>Select Microsoft>MS SQL Server 2000> ODBC Drivers>Next>Type(secured), name the connection.
Type in the user name and password and select the DSN name you created for sql server.
    Click on test connection.
Click on next-->next and finish and OK.
Now the universe that you are creating will use this connection and you can also use this connection for creating other universes.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to reference the Instance name using Substitution string or SQL

    All:
We have an Application that will be replicated in multiple Apex instances and would like to display the current Oracle Apex Instance name ( Similar to the &APP_USER. on the Welcome portion of the page ) .
Is there a substitution string for this ?
We plan on using a Show/Hide region on the splash page titled [About], that when clicked displays an HTML region with the subsitution strings.
If no substitution strings, can someone help with an SQL that returns the Instance name ?
    Thanks for all the help.

What I need are the portions before the final forward slash ( canqa101:7777/pls/ngcrmd01 ) which I assumed is the Oracle Apex instance. That information is determined by the web server configuration (e.g. the DADs when using OHS) rather than through APEX itself. There are no built-in substitution strings for this. Create an application item and an On New Instance (new session) computation to set the value using the function<tt>owa_util.get_cgi_env</tt> function to get the CGI environment variables <tt> HTTP_HOST</tt> and <tt>SCRIPT_NAME</tt>. You can then reference the value in the region using substitution string syntax.
