Calculating database increment

Hi all,
My client wants to estimate the total amount of space required to accommodate the database growth. For this we need to find out the total growth of the database in one year. Is there any view in Oracle which records all the growth statistics during a specified period? If you know any plz let me know.Is sys.v_$datafile is useful in this case?
Thanx,

Hi,
Is there any view in Oracle which records all the growth statistics during a specified period?No, but you can write extension tables:

My client wants to estimate the total amount of space required to accommodate the database growth.I would try capacity sizing spreadsheets:

What Oracle version are you using ?
The following is from 8.1.7 documentation about INCTYPE parameter :
Incremental, Cumulative, and Complete Exports
Important: Incremental, cumulative, and complete Exports are obsolete features that will be phased out in a subsequent release. You should begin now to migrate to Oracle's Backup and Recovery Manager for database backups.

• How to extract data from essbase to oracle database incrementally?

I have to extract data from essbase to an oracle database table incrementally using informatica , can anyone tell me how to do it or give me some tips. I have been thinking about it for a whole day but have no ideas.
I cannot do the delete & insert method because this oracle database table is a interface table that has to deliver the data to Oracle ESB tables.
Thanks in advance....

• Problem inserting data into database (increment problem)

I have a servlet page that gets various data from a bean and executes multiple SQL statements to store this data. Beacuase i want to insert data into a number of tables that are related with a one to many relationship I am not using the auto increment function in mySQL. Instead i have created a counter bean that increments each time the servlet is involked. I am using this counter to set the primary key ID in the quesiton table that i insert data into and I am alos inserting it into another table as a foreign key which relates a number or records in the outcomes table to one record in the question table. I am havin a few problems getting it to work.
Firstly the bean counter works but when the tomcat server is shutdown the counter is reset which will cause conflicts in the database no doubt and secondly even though i have not shut my server down i seem to be getting the following error saying there is a duplicate key even though there is no data in the database.

Then after if you want to save it. create result database item and write trigger (When-Validate-Item) on both amount and rate filed and at trigger code, write
:result:=:amount*:rate;To display the result on form, create non database item and change property to formula and write the formula.

• Update a field in an access database via TestStand

I want to read a value from a numeric field in an MS Access database, increment that value by one, and then update the database record that I got the value from with the new value. I am able to execute an Open Database step, execute a Open SQL Statement step with a SELECT query, execute a "Get" operation in a Data Operation step to get the value into a TestStand variable, and increment the value, but I'm at a loss for how to update the databse record with the incremented value.
I tried to execute another Open SQL Statement step with an UPDATE statement, but I get a "Specified value does not have the expected type." error. The TestStand variable type is a number, and the Data Type of the database field is Number. I've tried using long integer, double, and decimal as field sizes, but they all give me the same error.
I also tried to execute a "Set" operation with another Data Operation step against the original Statement Handle. When I do this, the Data Operation runs without error, but when I run a Close SQL Statement step against the statement handle I get an "ADODB.Recordset: Operation is not allowed in this context." error.
Any help would be appreciated.

Scripter -
When you try to do a Set and Put, it is always good to explicitly set the statement's cursor type to something other than forward only, like keyset, and the lock type to something other than read-only. See if that helps...

• Database Copy size

Dear
We make Exchange Designs for more than a decade now. We always use the storage calculator as a second opinion tool. The Exchange 2013 storage calculator always calculates the database copy size 1.5 times the active Database. However, comparing both, the active
and the copy on a production DAG, both do have the same size? I think this 1.5 factor is not necessary, even not OK. Because that means that you should make your Active database storage a large as the calculated database copy storage size. You need to be able
to switch from active/copy to copy/active.
So, why is the database copy size 1.5 times the active database when using the storage calculator?
Regards.

Not sure I follow. There are a lot of components and factors in the Exchange 2013 storage calc. For example, if you are talking DB copies, Content Indexing, and Transaction Logs of a passive copy on the same disk & has a truncation
fault tolerance & designated LAG, then I would expect disk requirements to be different than a totally different configuration. Feel free to share your calc example.
Be sure that you are using the latest version of the calc; it does update and there are fixes.

• Is filestream filegroup size considers in database size?

while calculating database size will it necessary to consider filestream filegroup size??
sp_spaceused stored procedure returns size of database but it consider only data and log files.
my question is : can we consider filestream filegroup size while calculating database size or is there any other way which already consider filestream filegroup size??

Hi priyanka,
Since you can get the size of
filestream files via the T-SQL statement and the sys.database_files, I will mark their post as answer for your question.
That way, other community members could benefit from this sharing. Thanks for your understanding.

• How to recover a single file

As far as we know there is no way to recover a single file out of a database (incremental or full) backup - full database recovery is no option.
However, the recovery of single files used to be a common task of our user help desk.
Any ideas how to achieve this with OCS?

Oracle Files has a two level trash. When users delete a file it goes into their Trash folder - and they can recover such files themselves. If they empty their Trash folder the contents are moved to the Archive. The subscriber adminstrator can recover files from the Archive.
The subscriber administrator can configure how long files stay in the Archive before they are deleted.
hope that helps,

• Backup with retention policy to recovery window of N days

Hello,
I've issued command to create database incremental backup with configuration:
run
configure retention policy to recovery window of 14 days;
backup incremental level 1 cumulative
tag daily_incr_14_days
database
plus archivelog delete all input;
All parameters are set to their default values and database backups goes to FRA. I've got recovery catalog connected and all RC_ views at my disposal.
1) Is there any way to find out, what recovery window was used for backup from any command in rman or query from RC_ views or local database views (information from control file)?
2) If I use other recovery window setting with configure command what would rman crosscheck or report commands do?

TenakaKhan wrote:
Mahir,
thanks for answer - this means that recovery window should be used mainly for maintenance purposes (crosscheck, delete obsolete, report need backup etc.) and it's not related to actual retention period with backup pieces like 'keep until' clause for backup ... database command (this information are saved with backup as I could check in rc_backup_set view from recovery catalog)?
Yes it is.
Maintaining RMAN Backups and Repository Records
keepOption
backup retention policy
A user-defined policy for determining how long backups and archived logs must be retained for media recovery. You can define a retention policy in terms of backup redundancy or a recovery window.
RMAN retains the data file backups required to satisfy the current retention policy, and any archived redo logs required for complete recovery of those data file backups.
recovery window
A recovery window is one type of RMAN backup retention policy, in which the DBA specifies a period of time and RMAN ensures retention of backups and archived redo logs required for point-in-time recovery to any time during the recovery window.
The interval always ends with the current time and extends back in time for the number of days specified by the user. For example, if the retention policy is set for a recovery window of seven days, and the current time is 11:00 AM on Tuesday,
RMAN retains the backups required to allow point-in-time recovery back to 11:00 AM on the previous Tuesday.

• Inconsistent Run times for the Calcscript

Hello Guys,
I am getting inconsistent run times when I am executing the same Calcscript on EAS DEV server again and again. Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks

There are a number of factors that can affect this
First. If the first time you had just loaded the database and ran the calc times would vary from when the calculation is against a fully calculated database
Second, Each time you run the calc, you could be creating fragmentation whould would lenghten the calculation
Third, depending on what is going on, you might have cached some blocks from a previous run wich would speed up calculations. To try to get consistant results there are a few things you could do
1. reload the data prior to every test
2. or restructure the Database to remove fragmentation
3. Stop and restart the database between runs to clear the cache

• How to calculate percentage and difference of two values in matrix report in ssrs 2008

Hi everyone,
DB--SQL server
SSRS-2008
I am creating matrix report with grouping on WEEK and Fiscalyearweek,
I need to calculate of difference between FY14W01,FY15W01 ande percentage of those..
how to calculate in ssrs level.
Thank You, Manasa.V

Hi veerapaneni,
According to your description, you want to calculated the increment percentage and difference between two fiscal year week within each week. Right?
In this scenario, since we need to do calculation based on values between dynamically generated cells, we can't simply use expression to achieve this goal. In this scenario, we need to use custom code to record the value for fiscal 14 and fiscal 15, then
we can calculate the difference and percentage within the column group. We have tested your case in our local environment, please refer to the steps and screenshots below:
1. Add the custom code below into the report (you may need to modify the data type based on your scenario:
Public Shared Value1 as Integer
Public Shared Value2 as Integer
Public Shared previous as string
Public Shared previousweek as string
Public Shared Function GetValue(Value as Integer,product as String,Week as String) as Integer
If product =previous and Week =previousweek Then
Value2=Value
Else
previous=product
previousweek=Week
Value1=Value
End If
return Value
End Function
Public Shared Function GetPct()
return (Value2-Value1)/Value1
End Function
Public Shared Function GetDiff()
return Value2-Value1
End Function
2. Design the matrix like below:
3. The result look like below:
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

yes the script is edited
i have add some command line and edit it for take the full backup level=0 on the same directory with different formant name but location is same.
can i take full backup level 0 and incremental backup level 1 in the same directory with the different format name.
for exp:
allocate channel c2 device type disk format '/d06/UAT/rman_hot_backup/Daily_backup%d_DB_%c_%U';
allocate channel c3 device type disk format '/d06/UAT/rman_hot_backup/Daily_backup%d_DB_%c_%U';
allocate channel c4 device type disk format '/d06/UAT/rman_hot_backup/Daily_backup%d_DB_%c_%U';
i allocate these three channel for incremental level 1 backup;
the backup is done successfully without any error.
after that i have change
allocate channel c2 device type disk format '/d06/UAT/rman_hot_backup/Weekly_backup%d_DB_%c_%U';
allocate channel c3 device type disk format '/d06/UAT/rman_hot_backup/Weekly_backup%d_DB_%c_%U';
allocate channel c4 device type disk format '/d06/UAT/rman_hot_backup/Weekly_backup%d_DB_%c_%U';
backup database incremental level 0
after doing the above changes it get the error. with the channel location.
i have to schedule daily incremental backup level 1 and weekly full backup level 0.
plz suggest me i have to take incremental 1 and full incremental level 0 backup on seperate directory for different format name.

• HPCM: Calc Script Deployment Error: java.lang.indexoutofboundsexception: In

I am trying to deploy the allocation calc scripts in HPCM and ran into the indexoutofboundsexception. Does anyone know how I resolve this?
I have successfully deployed the calculation database. This is version 11.1.1.2.
Cheers,
Below is the relevant section of the hpm.log file.

I am working on first profitability application creation. I have performed the following steps till now:
1. Creating Dimension Library for the Profitability Application. (I haven't put any details in the AllocationType Dimension)
2. Validate and Deploy the Profitability Application.
3. Created Staging Table (HPM_STG_STAGE, HPM_STG_ASSIGNMENT...) in Database. These are blank staging tables.
My question is:
1. How the data load happens in the Profitability Application.
2. After creating stages, does it get populated when you create stages? How are you going to populate the same.
3. Are you able to open the application in Essbase? I can see this through Shared Services but am unable to open the same in Essbase.
Let me know if you have done things differently than this.

• Drop objects before import?

I've read an unofficial article stating that whenever you do subsequent imports on the same database, one should drop existing objects in order not to produce duplicate data. Is this valid also when one passes the 'ignore = yes' argument to the 'imp' command?
Also, I would like to know how to import/export everything except the system tablespace. Is this possible to do in a simple step? Bear in mind that i want to do regular imports on the same database to fake a sync between two databases.

one should drop existing objects in order not to produce duplicate data. Is this valid also when one passes the 'ignore = yes' argument to the 'imp' command?when you are importing, oracle first executes ddl, like creating the object, if it found, then says already exists and then skips to the next step of import. If you say ignore=y, then, it wont display error message. Thats it.
Bear in mind that i want to do regular imports on the same database to fake a sync between two databases. incremental exports you can do it, but, not a great idea to do so. For this, you can use replication rather.
