Calculating percentages using numbers

Hi there,
I hope someone out there can help me but how do I calculate the percentage of two numbers using Numbers. For example £4000 incoming and £1650 outgoings - How do  I get the spreadsheet to work out the percentage and input this number into the fields?  This is really painful trying to work it out. Thanks

Hi Adrian,
You wrote: "I need to do this with 2 column actually A and B, both column need to be added by that 5%, I think this only possible"
If I'm reading the description of your table correctly, column A shows the number of units, column B the price of each unit, and column C the price of that quantity of units.
If you increase the unit price by 5%, that will also increase the total price of n units by 5%, provided you multiply the quantity by the new unit price instead of the old unit price.
Here's a step by step:
Original table:
Formula in C2, and filled down column C: =A*B
Add a new column (D) to hold the formula for the increased price.
D2, and filled down: =B*(1+5%)
With the cells shown still selected, Copy (command-C)
Now select cell B2, and go Edit > Paste Values (Numbers '09) or Edit > Paste Formula Results (Numbers 3)
Results should be as shown below:
(Note that column C has been recalculated to show the results of a 5% increase in unit prices. Column D (labelled "temp") has also been recalculated to show what the unit prices would be after a second 5% increase. the last step is to delete this column, leaving us with the original table, but with unit prices increased by 5%:
In practice, you would probably NOT do this on the actual invoice. Item names (or numbers) and the unit prices of those items would be kept on a price list, separate from the invoice, and the price would be looked up by the Invoice table when the item name or number was entered. The table would be used as an invoice generator, and the completed invoices either printed or 'printed' as pdf files as each was generated.
Price changes would be made on the price list, either individually, or geerally as done here. Note that the new prices would affect new invoices AND any existing invoices still connected to the price list (which is why each is 'printed' to separate it from the calculating document). Here's a simple example using a price list as a lookup table. Item Number and Quantity are entered on the invoice. The rest is added by formulas.
Formulas:
Price List has no formulas.
Invoice:
C2 and filled right to column D and down to row 6:
=IFERROR(VLOOKUP($B,Price List :: $A:$C,COLUMN()-1),"")
In row 6, the empty cell in column A will cause a "could not find" error. IFERROR catches this and places a null string in C6 (and in D6).
E2 and filled down to E6: =IF(LEN(D)<1,"",A*D)
LEN(D) returns the length (in number of characters) of the contents of the cell on the same row of column D. If the cell is empty, or contains a null string (as in row 6), the length is zero, and IF will place a null string in column E.
SUM, in row seven, interprets text (including a null string) as zero, so this does not affect the sums in coumns A and E.
Row 7 is a Footer Row. Formulas referencing a whole column ignore values in Header and Footer rows, making it possible to place the formulas below where they are.
A7: =SUM(A)
E7: =SUM(E)

  • Calculating Percentages using int

    Hi,
    How would I calculate a percentage when the initial values I have are int primitives, so that the percentage is rounded to the nearest whole number. i.e. 4/6 equates to 67%
    Thanks in Advance.

    int x = 4;
    int y = 6;
    int percentage = (int) (Math.rint(x * 100.0 / y));

    Oaky, at least we got that far.  Next step is to determine if all those "numbers" are really numbers.  Changing the format to "number" doesn't necessarily change the string to a number. The string has to be in the form of a number.  Some may appear to you and me as numbers but will not turn into "numbers" when you change the formatting from Text to Number. Unless you've manually formatted the cells to be right justified, one way to tell if it is text or a number is the justification. Text will be justified to the left, numbers will be justified to the right.
    Here are some that will remain as strings:
    +123
    123 with a space after it.
    .123

  • Using numbers, how can you set percentage to show decimals?

    When using numbers, how do you set the format to allow for decimals in a quotient formula with the cell formatted for percentages?

    It would be 'View' > 'Sidebar' > 'Bookmarks'. Shortcut 'Ctrl' + 'B' on the keyboard.
    If the 'View' menu is not visible please try pressing 'Alt' + 'V'.

  • Calculated Percentage Columns in Pivot Table loose formating in Excel

    I have a simple report built using pivot table ( OBIEE 11.1.1.5.0)
    1 Metric and 1 dimension using pivot table. and I duplicated the metric column and change it to % column.(Show data as % of column). SO far so good. Below is the snapshot
    http://tinypic.com/r/2s14xa9/7
    Now i download the report in excel and all the % values are messed up . Below is how it looks
    http://tinypic.com/r/bede90/7
    I tried messing with data formats etc..nothing works.. I cannot add a custom column format to the metric column since it will impact the derived % column.
    Is this a bug ?Any pointers ..
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Follow up this SR:
    SR 3-5060435331: Calculated Percentage Columns in Pivot Table loose formating in Excel
    Workaround: (not sure may be give a try)
    also give a try like below one then try to download it may work.
    In that % column -->add the below statement in the Custom CSS section of the column properties:
    mso-number-format:"\@"
    Refer snapshot here:
    http://i53.tinypic.com/a09kqv.jpg
    This will treat the data in the column as text while downloading to excel, hence retaining any leading or trailing spaces.

  • Using Numbers  to create spreadsheet.

    Using Numbers 08 to create spredsheet.
    Need it to divide Cost by usage to get unit cost. It then gets calculation wrong.
    ie. divides 211.43 by 1467 and gives answer of 0.6666666 recuring
    Answer should be 0.144124
    Help Please.

    Shift,
    You indicate you problem is solved?  If so I am am confused as to how?  For the other participants can you share what you did to solve the problem?
    I am guess, though, that the problem is NOT solved and that you are attempting to use the number two to refer to Electric cost and three to refer to Usage.
    In Numbers, as in any spread sheet the table is divided into cells with columns and rows.  You refer to the columns with letter and the rows with numbers.
    To get the outcome you want you enter the Electric Cost in cell B2 (in the way I have this set up), Usage in cell B3.  The cost per unit is computed in cell B4 using the formula "=B2/B3"
    I hope this helps.

  • [Forum FAQ] How do I create calculated measure using AMO in SQL Server Analysis Services?

    Introduction
    In SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), you can create a calculated measure in SQL Server Data Tool (SSDT)/Boniness Integrated Development Studio (BIDS). Sometimes you may need to create calculated measure by using AMO in a C# or VB project.
    In this article, I will demonstrate so how to create calculated measure using AMO in SSAS?
    Prerequisites
    Before create calculated measure using AMO, you need to ensure that the following components were installed in your server.
    The multidimensional database AdventureWorks Multidimensional Model 2012
    A SQL Server with SSIS and SSAS installed
    The AMO libraries installed:
    X86 Package (SQL_AS_AMO.msi)
    X64 Package (SQL_AS_AMO.msi)
    Solution
    Here is the detail steps to create calculated measure using AMO in SSAS.
    Open SSDT and create a new SSIS project.
    Drag Script Task to the design surface.
    Click SSIS-> Variables to open the Variables window and add two variables that used to connect to the server and database.
    Create a connection to connect to SSAS server.
    Rename the connection name to ssas.
    Double click the Script Task to open Script Task Editor.
    Add Connection and Database variables to ReadWriteVariables textbox and then click Edit Script button.
    Add AMO reference in the Solution Explore window.
    Copy the script below and paste it into the script.
    Dim objServer As Server
    Dim objDatabase As Database
    Dim strDataBaseID As String
    Dim objCube As Cube
    Dim objMdxScript As MdxScript
    Dim objCommand As Command
    Dim strCommand As String
    objServer = New Server
    objServer.Connect("localhost")
    objDatabase = objServer.Databases("AdventureWorksDW2012Multidimensional-EE2")
    strDataBaseID = objDatabase.ID
    If objDatabase.Cubes.Count > 0 Then
    objCube = objDatabase.Cubes("Adventure Works")
    If objCube.MdxScripts.Count > 0 Then
    objMdxScript = objCube.MdxScripts("MdxScript")
    objMdxScript = objCube.MdxScripts(0)
    Else
    objCube.MdxScripts.Add("MdxScript", "MdxScript")
    objMdxScript = objCube.MdxScripts("MdxScript")
    End If
    objCommand = New Command
    strCommand = "CREATE MEMBER CURRENTCUBE.[Measures].[Multipy Measures By 3]"
    strCommand = strCommand & " AS [Measures].[Internet Sales Amount] * 3, "
    strCommand = strCommand & " VISIBLE = 1 ; "
    objCommand.Text = strCommand
    objMdxScript.Commands.Add(objCommand)
    objMdxScript.Update()
    objCube.Update()
    End If
    objServer.Disconnect()
    Then you can run this SSIS package to create the calculated measure.
    Applies to
    Microsoft SQL Server 2005
    Microsoft SQL Server 2008
    Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2
    Microsoft SQL Server 2012

    Thanks,
    Is this a supported scenario, or does it use unsupported features?
    For example, can we call exec [ReportServer].dbo.AddEvent @EventType='TimedSubscription', @EventData='b64ce7ec-d598-45cd-bbc2-ea202e0c129d'
    in a supported way?

  • How do i use numbers for image gallery and arrows?

    Hello there,
    I'm hoping someone can advise me on the best possible way.
    I would like to use numbers to help the user navigate through the image gallery i'm creating and arrows on either side of an image (one image viewed at any one time). I have attached an image of what i'm trying to acheive. I feel like the arrows will help aid the user to navigate and the numbers will inform them on the number of images to view.
    I have so far created the site with a template (logo and nav bar) and child pages for: home/about/work/contact.
    Hope to hear from someone soon.

    I have 2 problems. First I was using numbers on my IPad and it froze up on me. I cannot open any of my documents. What do I do to fix this.
    My pages wouldn't update and now it is dark and I cannot use it or my Facebook app which is doing the same thing.

    Can anyone help me get back into my numbers App please?

    I have simply been backing up to iTunes using the sync function.
    My most recent backup using that method was a bit too old. To get a more recent backup of my data, I decided to do another sync backup before uninstalling Numbers from my system.  (I did have the sense to copy the previous iTunes backup to another file folder on my PC before making that last sync - just in case I need it.)
    Is there some way to extract Numbers spreadsheets from the iTunes sync backup? I haven't found any way to access these spreadsheet except by using Numbers. Since Numbers isn't working, I seem to be stuck. I did find some software that extracts a variety of data from iTunes backups but it doesn't extract Numbers data.

    Hi Jay,
    Be aware that "Freeze Header Rows" and "Freeze Header Columns" apply only to rows and columns that are Header rows or Header columns. You can have up to five Header rows, Five Header Columns (and five Footer rows) on a Numbers Table.
    "Header rows" is a special designation. Besides being able to be frozen, Header and Footer rows are not included in formulas referencing whole columns, making it possible to place formulas such as =SUM(B) at the top (or bottom) of column B without causing a self-reference error, These designated rows are also not included in sorts of the rows in a table.

    Hi mafiose15,
    Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    Restoring your iPod to factory settings is the best way to try and get it back to working order. You can use the instructions below to restore it:
    How to restore iPod
    Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
    Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
    Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
    After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
    Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
    If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
    A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
    Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
    Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
    During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
    Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
    After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
    You can find the instructions in this article:
    Restoring iPod to factory settings

    All the best,
    Jeremy

    Hi, i'm new using numbers, and when I try to open a excel file don't let me do it, instead appears a box whit a error and close app,  any help?

    What does the error say?
    A couple of thoughts: the file is corrupted or is password-protected. Corruption is more likely to cause Numbers to crash & Numbers cannot open password-protected Excel files. Try using one of the free Office clones & see what happens.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I cannot open my File Maker Pro files. Can I use Numbers to open these files?

    After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I cannot open my File Maker Pro files. Can I use Numbers to open these files?

    Numbers is a spreadsheet program and FileMaker is a database program, so you probably can't use Numbers to open them unless you had first exported them from FileMaker in a spreadsheet-compatible format.
    If you upgraded from 10.6 Snow Leopard or earlier and your old copy of FileMaker won't open anymore, it might be a PowerPC application that is not compatible with 10.7 and later. If that is the case, to work with your FileMaker files you should upgrade your copy of FileMaker to the latest version, which seems to be FileMaker 12.

  • HT6312 How do I use Numbers, Mavericks, and sharing to collaborate with others who have PCs/Macs like I did last week?

    Last week I used numbers in a very efficient way to collaborate with colleagues.
    Yesterday I was required to upgrade to iCloud Drive in order for others to view my documents and edit them.
    Now I cannot use the Numbers application on my mac to update these documents and publish them back to the cloud until Yosemite.
    (not all Numbers functionality is available via the web app) (Yosemite Beta not available at work)
    How is a decision made to eliminate a top line collaboration feature a month before folks can update?
    My work flow is shot and I must resort to Google Docs and ridicule for trying to make Apple "business" apps work.
    From the iWork Support Document:
    ***You’ll be prompted to upgrade your account to iCloud Drive when you install iOS 8 or OS X Yosemite, or launch Pages, Numbers, or Keynote on iCloud.com.
    ***Note that until you upgrade your iCloud account to iCloud Drive, you won’t be able to use the iWork web apps on iCloud.com or the Share via iCloud feature.
    BUT
    ***You’ll be able to use the Share via iCloud feature on iOS 8 and iCloud.com. You’ll be able to use it on OS X Yosemite later this year.
    Thanks Apple!

    A SIMPLE METHOD FOR REVERTING FROM MAVERICKS BACK TO AN EARLIER OS X VERSION
    There were so many caveats and side issues included on various instructions that didn't apply to me that I thought it was a bit confusing. However, I got the idea that restarting while pressing down the option key would give me access to the Recovery drive. I tried it and it gave me several choices. The top one was irresistible. It says "Restore From Time Machine Backup." I had done full backups using Time Machine to both an internal hard drive on my MacPro and an external hard drive just before installing Mavericks. I clicked on "Restore From Time Machine Backup" and selected the external drive since I wasn't sure that the internal drive would work. The internal backup drive is faster, but I felt the external drive was a safer bet. A window came up asking me to choose which backup I wanted to use. I picked the one I made just before installing Mavericks and it went to work. It took a couple of hours to finish, but as it restarted and Mountain Lion 10.8.5 appeared on the screen, I was totally relieved. I feel liberated. Everything works. No wacky glitches to say "gotcha!"
    When you consider all of the written instructions, many of which are very difficult to follow, this very simple method of restoration is amazingly easy. I hope it helps others who are considering moving to OS X 10.9. Just get a good external Time Machine backup of your present system before you venture.
