Calendar events trigger by UTC/GMT

Hi
I travel internationally from time to time and it would be really good if I could set **one** of my calendars so that events are triggered by UTC/GMT not matter which timezone I was in.
I have a sort of work around of setting Lighting timezone to London but that is then right across all my calendars which means any local event is triggered at the wrong time. So that does not work for me.
If it's not already there and I've missed the setting, could the developers consider
1) Picking up the time zone from the OS (Windows in my case) as I change this (Windows time) on arrival in a country. I always seem to forget that I need to change it in Lighting as well!
2) A setting to override the default timezone (set by Lighting TimeZone setting) of a calendar to something else
Thanks
Geoff

Turns out the problem disappeared when I installed the final release of Windows 7, guess thats why no one had the same problem. Problem solved.

• IPlanet Calendar Server 5.0 WCAP commands fetchcomponents_by_range,fetchevents_by_id,fetchtodos_by_id returns the event dtstart & dtend in GMT and not in the timezone (tzid) specified in the command

hi,
i am vinod from knowledge systems pvt ltd. we are the partners with the iplanet india for customer support.
problem description :
m fetchcomponents_by_range,m fetchevents_by_id,m fetchtodos_by_id returns the event dtstart & dtend in GMT and not the timezone (tzid) requested
i have an development issue with the iplanet calendar server 5.x.if i execute WCAP command storeevents.wcap as follows for storing an event
http://localhost:portnumber/storeevents.wcap?id=n38tew98wbhhv95s&calid=userA&tzid=America/Indianapolis&rid=0&dtstart=20020419T050000Z&duration=PT1H0M&summary=eventtest&fmt-out=text/xml
in the calendar server the dtstart and the dtend for this event is as follows
dtStart = 1019210400 (20020419T100000Z) [19-Apr-02 10:00AM GMT] (isDate = 0)
dtEnd = 1019214000 (20020419T110000Z) [19-Apr-02 11:00AM GMT] (isDate = 0)
NOTE : in the WCAP command i had specified the time in America/Indianapolis i,e 0500 hrs behind GMT(-0500) hence the server stores the dtstart & dtend in the GMT which is perfect as explained in the docs.
Now for retreving the same event i execute the following command
http://localhost:portnumber/fetchcomponents_by_range.wcap?id=n38tew98wbhhv95s&rid=0&calid=vt&tzid=America/Indianapolis&fmt-out=text/xml
the result has the event details but the dtstart & dtend are in GMT and not in the America/Indianapolis timezone requested.
<START>20020419T100000Z</START>
<END>20020419T110000Z</END>
NOTE : the Mime type requested in the WCAP is text/xml. the expected dtstart is 20020419T050000Z and dtend is 20020419T060000Z applied to the timezone specified in the tzid parameter(America/Indianapolis)
issue :
m fetchcomponents_by_range,m fetchevents_by_id,m fetchtodos_by_id returns the event dtstart & dtend in GMT and not the timezone (tzid) requested
docs says the following which is not true for retrieving the events.....
For example, if a command such as storeevents or fetchcomponents_by_range
specifies a tzid parameter, the parameter value must be a tzid that is defined in the list of 91 time zones. The server will return data in that time zone and all data will have dates applied to that time zone.If the command specifies an unrecognized tzid, the server will return a GMT timezone by default. All data returned on that command will have its dates applied in GMT.
release notes has the following. i could not understand the point no. 1 could u please suggest me how to retrieve the event with dtstart & dtend values applied to the timezone supplied in the parameter tzid.
1. The following seven commands now take an additional parameter, tzid:
m deleteevents_by_id
m deletetodos_by_id
m fetchcomponents_by_alarmrange
m fetchcomponents_by_lastmod
m fetchcomponents_by_range
m fetchevents_by_id
m fetchtodos_by_id
The value of tzid must be a time zone ID string, such as “America/Los_Angeles”. Note that these are not localized. If other ISO 8601 DateTime string parameters, such as rid, dtstart and dtend, do not have a “Z” on the end, this parameter determines the time zone to use.
2. The following two commands, which already have the tzid parameter, have been modified:
m storeevents
m storetodos
The value is no longer a quoted string, but is now a time zone ID string to match the acceptable values for tzid in the seven commands listed above. The default value of the tzid parameter in all commands is the server's default time zone. This is a change for storeevents and storetodos.
thanks

I have found the solution! I post how I managed in case someone else has the same issue.
You have to go to "Settings" -> "Settings Editor".
There, there is a "display" entry.
When you open the tree, you can see both of your displays (in my case, LVDS1 and VGA1).
Under VGA1 (the "extra" monitor), there is a "Position" entry. There, you need to set the "X" variable to the last pixel of the other display resolution.
E.g.: if you principal display is a "1366x768", then the "X" value will be 1366.
You can also play on the "Y" if your screens are not horizontally aligned, but 0 should be fine.
I hope this helps :-)

• Google calendar event times are shown as -1h

Summary:
When I create a new event in the built in WP8 calendar app to a Google calendar the time of the event is being displayed as one hour earlier.
Steps to reproduce:
Create a new event in calendar. Choose one of the Google calendars configured (I have two configured in my phone). Set time as 2013/07/17 16:00. Save the event.
Expected behavior:
The event time in the agenda view is shown as 2013/07/17 16:00.
Observed behavior:
The event time in the agenda view is shown as 2013/07/17 16:00 for a few seconds. It then automatically changes to 2013/07/17 15:00.
Other notes:
I have two Google calendars configured. I can observe the same misbehavior on both.
I also have a Microsoft (@hotmail.com) calendar configured. This works as expected.
When I log into my Google calendar using a web browser, the time is shown as expected.
When I use a third party calendar (Chronos) and sync my Google account directly, the time is shown as expected.
When I use a third party calendar (Chronos) and use it simply as an interface to the built in WP calendar the time is off again showing 2013/07/17 15:00.
The timezone on my WP is set to (UTC) London.
I started noticing this perhaps a week ago. It was working as expected before.
Phone model is Nokia Lumia 925
Phone OS version is 8.0.10327.77
Notes 1-6 suggests to me that the internal calendaring module in WP8 fails to recognize DST (daylight saving time) in timezone (UTC) London or misinterprets relevant information fields on Google calendar objects.
Note 7 suggests to me that this is related to an update to my WP8 phone or a change in Google calendar API.
Any help is much appreciated, this is driving me rather nuts.
Thanks,
Kaarel

Further investigation reveals this only happens when the event is created from within WP native calendar app and disappears when I make an edit to the event in any other calendar client including Google web. So a more appropriate description of the problem would be:
"Native calendar app keeps subtracting 1h off a Google calendar event on EVERY edit"
Create an event at 2013/07/17 15:00 in WP native calendar app. Result: Event shows as 2013/07/17 15:00 in the calendar app for a few seconds, then updates itself to 2013/07/17 14:00.
Edit the event title and save in WP native calendar app. Event time moves by -1h again to 2013/07/17 13:00.
Edit the event title in Google web calendar.
Subsequent edits in WP native calendar do not mess up the time any longer. If I fix the time to what I originally intended (2013/07/17 15:00) in WP native calendar app, it stays there and shows correctly in all previously mentioned calendar viewers.
I just learned that Lumia 925 was released with GDR2 update pre-installed. This update is only now being made generally available. If the issue is secific to the CalDAV implementation in GDR2 rather than specific to my phone only, this would make a lot of angry people. I hope I'm wrong on this though as it's an extremely frustrating problem.

• Receiving a calendar event message from a third party on a BB Z10

I have a BB Z10 on the UK Vodafone network. My Z10 is set to GMT time and correctly shows that I am in the "Dublin, London" time zone. This is the GMT time zone description that all BB devices that I have ever owned have shown.
This afternoon (UK time) i received a calendar event notification from a client who I have since established was at his desk in London when he sent the message advising me of a conference call to take place next week.
The advice on the Z10 has five clear sections: "Status", "Date", a bell symbol to indicate when the reminder will sound, and a fifth symbol indicating the number on which to call in, and the PIN code.
However, and this is my serious problem, there is a third section on the advice which has a globe symbol and appears to exist to indicate where the person setting up the event was located when he/she sent the message. In the specific case of which I write, the message states "This event is displayed in local time, but was created in Reykjavik (GMT) [sic}". The actual message shows the time for the event as one hour later than the actual time that the event is scheduled to take place - in other words GMT + 2 hours - namely the time in continental Europe and Reykjavik.
I have serious issues with this:
1) Is it the real intention to indicate where the sender of the message was located when the message was sent?
2) if yes, this is a serious breach of privacy
3) if yes, the location is wrong, as the person who sent me the message has confirmed that he was at his desk in London
4) if no what is the purpose in indicating where "the message was created" (BB's words - not mine)
5) the indicated time of the event is wrong - it has assumed a different time zone than that in which I and the sender are located.
Has anyone else encountered this problem and what has BB got to say about it???
Thanks

I received the e-mail notification on Microsift Outlook from a third party (i.e. not someone within my own organisation).
The same invite on both my lap-top computer and my BB 9900 Bold did not have any mention about the sender being in Iceland (or anywhere else!) and showed the correct time and time-zone for the agreed meeting - namely, 8,30am on Friday the 19th April.
I confirm that my Z10 is set to the "Dublin, London (+0)" time zone and is currently showing the correct British Summer Time of 16.31. The device switched automatically to British Summer Time on Sunday 31st March.
I would welcome your comments.
In every other respect (apart from the infamous Outlook USB synching issue about which I am sure you have heard more than enough!!), the Z10 is an outstanding device and deserves to be the device which at long last wipes the smile off the faces of those equine rumps in Cupertino, California!!
I am expecting the roll-out of the Q10 in the UK in a couple of weeks - please??!!
Thanks again for your help and assistance

• Is it possible to export all of the fields for calendar events ? Specifically we're after the event creation date time.

We need to find out when a calendar event was created.
I have been unable to find this information in Lightning or any exports.
From looking into the local.sqlite database file the cal_events table has a field called
time_created. Unfortunately when I try to export this, the format is unknown so it just
exports as a number.
Does anyone know of another way to export this information ?
Thanks in advance

what exactly are you trying to achieve is my obvious question. A single forensic inquiry is different to a full listing of all events over years.
I assume you mean the created date shown in this view of the database.
https://support.cdn.mozilla.net/media/uploads/images/2014-06-02-18-47-50-c207d9.png
The values stored there are javascript date time values.
If you enter the value into a javascript like
var d = new Date(1374129123000000);alert(d);
Where 1374129123000000 is your number not mine then the alert will be the datetime UTC
You can enter that javascript onto the error console and have it evaluate. Tools menu (Alt+T) > error console.

• Changing timezones shifts calendar events (N93, E6...

It is commonly accepted that if you arrange a meeting for when you get to New York, you arrange a time for the time zone New York is in, (unless you want to leave your phone at home in England) so why do all the calendar events shift 5 hours automatically when you set your clock to -5 GMT? Has anyone noticed this? Very annoying. I have to ignore the timezone function and simply adjust the clock back a few hours (the phone asks if I have travelled to a different timezone, I have to press NO).

Let me give an example to explain better.
If i've arranged a meeting in New York for 1400hrs (and added a calendar event for 1400hrs) and then fly from UK to New York, I would normally change my phone timezone to the local timezone on arrival, so for example, 1300hrs GMT arriving in New York my timezone would slip back 5 hrs to a local time of 0800hrs.
On opening the phone's calendar, a window then announces that 'time zone changed, calendar entries updated', and hey presto my 1400hrs meeting (and everything else in the calendar) has gone forward 5hrs to 0900hrs.
The event *should* remain at 1400hrs, not to have shifted just because I have changed the time zone of the phone. My Treo never did this, it's quite annoying.

• Syncing Calendar Events running 1 hour behind

Can anyone please help me to fix this problem. I recently did a clean zeros erase install of Leopard and ever since my calendar events are sounding off one hour late... which has gotten me into trouble with meetings. I know it's something to do with either Daylight saving or something in my prefs on my Mac or on the iPhone. Can someone please help me sort this out.
Regards,
Anthony

I found this solution on another discussion (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8399991&#8399991) It worked for me!
On my iPhone I went to Settings, Mail/Contacts/Calendars, All the way at the bottom is a selection for Time Zone Support, it was still listed as GMT-4 which would be correct for DST. I turned Time Zone Support off and then back on again and it changed to Washington, DC (GMT-5). All of the items on my Calendar were then correct.

• BlackBerry OS6: Repeating Calendar Events Broken?

Hi everyone,
I have been experiencing the strangest issue when trying to add a calendar event in BlackBerry OS6, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good way to work around this issue.
Basically, the problem happens when trying to book a repeating event at a time where the current GMT time differs from the current local time. For example, I am trying to book an event that happens every week at 10 pm edt on a tuesday, but BlackBerry 6 ends up booking the event every week at 10 pm EDT the Wednesday instead, presumably because the GMT date does indeed occur on the Wednesday. When I tried to set it to repeat on the Tuesday, it ended up repeating on both the Tuesday and Wednesday, leaving me out of further options.
Has anyone experienced this issue, and if so, are there any good work-arounds My current solution is to have my event say it is on Monday so that it books on Tuesday, but this is undesirable because it is displaying Monday when you view the event series.

Hi Kim,
Good question. That .plist file is just a place where iCal keeps track of your preference settings. Sometimes that file gets corrupted and cause all sorts of strange behavior. Deleting the preferences is just a first thing to try when experiencing strange behavior. In iCal, resetting the preferences isn't a big deal. In some programs there are many layers of preferences so you might want to think twice before deleting, or at least write down all the preferences before doing so.
Whether or not you need to delete depends on your problem (assuming you're having one). Are you? If so you might want to describe the problem here but it won't hurt to delete the preferences; you'll just need to reset them if you want anything set other than the default (eg I have time Zone support checked).

• Removing calendar event suggestions in Notes iOS 8

Recently after updating to iOS 8, I have been getting calendar event suggestions in my Notes app for things completely unrelated to the calendar. For example, one of my notes has the line "My Record - 1.11.34". This was meant to be a note of my personal record (1 min 11.34 seconds) on something, but instead the program is recognizing it as a calendar event on Jan 11, 2034. The "1.11.34" is underlined in yellow, which is really annoying. Is there a way to disable this?

I've read through a few similar threads and many of the solutions haven't worked for me:
Removing account and re-adding it
Anything to do with setting time zone on the phone
I finally found that my Google calendar had created the events as GMT in the browser... I didn't believe that was the case, but sure enough -- it was. The problem, for me, was displaying the 6:45am event with an additional row stating: 11:45am (GMT).
I edited the time zone in my Google calendar appointment via the web page; to Central and it (eventually) synched and fixed it on my iPhone. While I was waiting, I tested creating a new appointment via web browser in Google Cal with the correct time zone.
This doesn't sound like the same exact problem as all users, but it definitely matches *some* of the problems people are describing here.

• Exchange Calendar Events Disappearing from iPhone after Editing

iPhone 6 running iOS8.
Exchange calendar events are disappearing from iPhone right after I edit them from my phone. But they are still visible on my MacBook in Outlook.
It used to happen very rarely but lately it has been happening very frequently. Haven't been able to find a pattern and re-create it.
Tried searching online for this issue. Found quite a few threads about calendar sync issues, including the GMT bug but haven't been able to find this exact issue that I have been facing.
Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

I have the same problem and it has nothing to do with filing or moving emails, for instance just before I logged in here to find a solution for the problem, I had just received and email on my iPad. I was reading it then clicked on a link. When I finished reading the link In Safari and went back to the email, it was gone. I have replied to an email then come back to it and it was gone. This had nothing to do with viewing the email on a ore device. This is a real problem I have asked about before and no one seems to know the answer.

• Outlook 2013 clients receiving duplicate acceptance emails from same attendee for same calendar event

Environment:
Office 2013 Suite
Windows 7
Few of our employees setup a calendar event on their calendar and invited about 6-10 attendees. When few attendees have replied with an acceptance of the event and the others have yet to reply. 5 of the group that have replied is somehow sending
the same acceptance reply repeatedly. This has been going on for several days now and the timing is seemingly random. Obviously the person that sent the acceptance reply is not manually doing it repeatedly. That would be too easy of a solution:)
Can someone please help me troubleshoot this problem.
Thanks.

Hi,
Does this issue happen to all calendar events? If so, we may try to create a new event using OWA and then check if you can reproduce the issue.
Do you have any delegates set for these affected users?
Do the employees have their calendars sync with any mobile devices? If so, we may disable the sync to see if the issue will be fixed.
In addition, we may try to enable Outlook troubleshooting logging on the calendar owner's computer and delegate computer, then we can check the logging data to see if we can find if the responses are sent by a delegate or third-party software. To enable
Outlook troubleshooting logging, go to File > Options > Advanced, scroll to the bottom of the dialog and select the "Enable troubleshooting logging" option. You'll need to restart your Outlook to trigger the logging. For more information about
Outlook troubleshooting logging, please refer:

• IPad calendar events are showing as the previous day

On my iPad calendar, events (daily ones rather than specific time ones) are showing as the previous day e.g. Bank holidays are showing that they are a Sunday rather than the Monday. The dates are synced from Outlook which is correct as is my iPhone calendar (synced from the same source). Pretty confused why this is happening and a touch annoyed. Have tried looking at settings but nothing strikes me as being incorrect e.g. I'm on British GMT.

If you use iCloud check the settings on the icloud website on the right top corner. Sometimes the settings are wrong and the hole sync fails.

• How can I see Calendar event END times at a glance?

How can I display my Calendar event titles exactly as I type them? I do not want Calendar to remove duration from the titles of my events. Otherwise I can't see event END times at a glance in month view; only start times. How can I "trick" Calendar to just show my titles as I type them - as I always could before I upgraded. I used to be able to enter "Seminar 9am-5:45" and it would appear that way regardless of how or what I chose to enter (or not enter) for duration.
I am running OSX 10.9.3.

It's a bit weird, but if you type in the time info TWICE into the event title then Calendar uses/deletes one of them to populate the event details and leaves the other.

• How can I forward a calendar event that I did not create?

I can't see a way to forward a calendar event, when I am not the event creator. How is this done on an iPhone or iPad?

There is an app that allows this - called Forward My Meeting. It allows you to forward any meeting in your calendar from the iPhone or iPad.
