Calibration Tiger to .. to 10.5.6

-
I’m about to upgrade, from Tiger 10.4.11, to Leopard 10.5.6., .. and I’m concerned regarding calibration potential.
With this transition, will I still have a basic abilty to calibrate my main display (CRT), i.e. similar to that that I have currently. ?

Appreciate your time.

Yes you will be able to calibrate the same as in Tiger.

  • USB 6009 - Calibration of Analog Input (Mac)

    Hi,
I have recently acquired a NI USB 6009. I'm using it under labview 7.1 on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger).
I can run the software examples and the datalogger without problems. However, the device seems
not to be properly calibrated, and I can't figure out how to do it from the manual. When I connect
pin 1&2 (analog in 0) to pin 32 and 31 (GND and 5V ref voltage) the software claims that the
measured voltage it ~3.7V (a multimeter confirms that it is in fact 5.0V). Can anyone help
    trouble shooting this ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Niels

A little update : After thinking some more I realized that it's because
the USB 6009 is in differential mode, and I hadn't connected one pin. Now
however, I have trouble figuring out where to change/set this. None of
the programs (e.q. Acquire One Voltage.vi) seems to define this, so where
    is this defined ?
    Thanks,
    Niels

  • My experience with Tiger/new Powerbook 15", 1.67 ghz

Apple proclaims "Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger. The world’s most advanced operating system."
Well, that hasn't been the case in my experience.
I bought a new 15 Powerbook HR, 1.67 ghz, 1.5 gb ram, 80gb hd on 11/4/05 (from MacMall). At this point I have about 20gb free.
Problems I have noticed with it/OSX.(Most have been fixed by an archive and install done a few weeks ago.) Here's my trial by fire.
    In chronological order
    - trackpad lags
    - many icons not correct after using Migration Assistant.
    - some icons open up the wrong applications
    - window resize button on Finder, and some app windows, doesn't open window to full screen. Also doesn't open window so that scroll bars disappear.
    - dragging a file up or down a window in list view doesn't always make the window scroll up or down when I go up or down to the top or bottom edges. When they do move, it races. Smooth scrolling has no effect.
    - CDr recorded on a machine with OSX 10.3.9 shows up as a recordable CD!
    - screen dims when I disconnect power supply
-Network option from the Go menu does nothing.
    - Doing a Get Info on a html file has Internet Explorer as the app to open when the files have Mozilla icons
    - icon for some apps have wrong application logo on them
    - screen dims and brightens rapidly, disconcertingly in low light. I turn off the ambient light adjustment on the monitors control panel. This is poorly implemented. Having the keys light up is nice though.
    - can't reset F7 key to take pictures of screen. (I eventually am able to do it.)
    - the clicker gives me a sharp pain in my arm from the second day of use. This has gotten better now but I was worried I might be getting carpal tunnel/repetitive stress injury. (This happened when I got my new Powerbook Firewire too, eventually going away.) The clickers are too stiff when new.
    - I call Applecare. They don't have my registration information I gave them when I signed up on the web. We reset the Power Manger.
    - Quicktime movies have no sound. I later throw out the LAME stuff (Component and Framework) and get sound back.
    - I go to Genius at Apple Store. They tell me I am using a non-native resolution, that is why I am having screen dimming. (Wrong. It was the ambient light control.) They also say whatever software I have installed is likely to be causing most of the other problems.
    - I get Finder freeze #1
    - Preview does not animate gifs. It did with 10.3.9.
-System sounds do not work. Upon reboot they do. Flakey.
    - some finder windows are not opening up with the item count in list view.
    -desktop gets rearranged
-occasionally keyboard turns letters into numbers as if number lock is on. It isn't. The it will stop working altogether. Rebooting cures this. (Happens twice before I call AppleCare.)
    - call AppleCare. They have my old address when I bought the Powerbook! I get registered again.I cannot install GarageBand, which I threw out thinking I didn't need it, because the install DVDs that came with my machine have an error reading the software only package. They will send me a new install disk #1.
    - scrolling is not smooth, races.
    - I notice the memory door has 3 out of the 4 screws loose. I tighten them. The battery door feels a little loose too but that is unfixable.
    - keyboard doesn't respond #3
    - I call AppleCare. They have the wrong address still in their database!
-eject DVD does not work. (It works all other times.)
    - system freeze #2
    - kernal panic #1
    - Call AppleCare. My TechTool Deluxe CD will not boot. I ask for a replacement. (I can't believe they are still using TechTool Deluxe. I remember what a hassle it was trying to get a working disc with my Powerbook Firewire.
    - keyboard types wrong characters #4
-Print preview does not work. (it does all other times.)
-Preference for video capture program (BTV) is not remembered
    - audio is only heard when BTV is running (since fixed.)
    - system freeze #3
    - keyboard stops working #5
    - I call Apple Care. We zap P-ram 3X.
    - file sizes incorrect in list view. Have to open window a second time to get correct info.
    - install DVD #1 arrives. It is defective.
    - system freeze #4
    - I update to 10.4.4. I hope this will cure the problems. Nope.
    - Help doesn't work.
    - Battery firmware update process works but isn't smooth. It crashes "unexpectedly" as I check to make sure it is really done. (It kept telling me I needed to do it.)
    - Help works.
    - boot takes forever after 10.4.4 update.
    - battery firmware update wants to run again.
    - file size is wrong in finder list view windows.
    - keyboard stops working #6
    - fan stops yet processor is still VERY busy as I am calibrating battery. Charge is about 5%.
    - I quit IMovie, It then says it quit "unexpectedly". (This happens with other apps still.)
    - I have to use power key to wake it from sleep, as I calibrate battery.
    - keyboard problem #7
    - system freeze # 5
    - text editing in iDVD is very buggy. Cursor is impossible to see against background with many themes. There is no way to increase cursor size.
    - AppleCare says they have sent TechTool Deluxe CD. I haven't gotten it yet.
    - I receive install disk #1. 2 actually. I install software bundle only. It works! I also reinstall CPU help files. Help still doesn't work.
    - I archive and install. (It installs 10.4.2 so I update to 10.4.4), Help doesn't work.
    - Help works without my having done anything. OK.
    - I repair a gazillion permissions. (funny how when you install the system software the permissions then need to be repaired. You would think the system would know to set the permissions correctly upon installation.
    - I notice the order of the right hand menu items has changed (clock, keyboard setup, OS 9 icon...)
    - file sizes wrong in list view
    - BTV has audio loop at times. (See thread on Topic "New Powerbook Audio Stutter / Looping / Echo problem in Using your PowerBook G4 15-inch Aluminum forum.)
    - keyboard problem #8
    - keyboard problem #9
    - I call AppleCare. TechTool Deluxe CD has still not arrived. We discuss other problems. I get hung up on.
    -keyboard problem #10
    - I go to Apple Store. Talk to the genius. He tells me the system software is "a house of cards", adding other software can cause unpredictable results. He zaps P-ram 3x, does something in open firmware. Recommends a clean install. I think about it and later decide not to.
    - I lose system sounds after I install USBVison video capture driver for Tiger. I eventually get it back.
    - I repair LOTS of permissions.
    - The fan starts to make bad noise.
    - system freeze $6
    - I do a Get Info on a file I making with BTV. The OS tells me it is 11GB. I stop the recording and then I check again. It says it is 1.5 gb.
-iChat won't open. It starts, according to Activity Monitor, runs for about two seconds and then disappears.
    - Network, under the Go menu, does nothing.
    - I call AppleCare.
    - I notice cursor disappears in Firefox.
    - Yahoo IM icon keeps getting moved. All the icons it is next to are spaced about the same but this one keeps getting moved.
    - I Stuff some stuff. The fan keeps running, it is still hot after I am finished. I have to reboot to get things back to normal.
    - Some icons for PING files on my desktop have changed from having Preview icons to Quicktime icons. I use Get Info to change them back from Picture Viewer (OS 9!)
    - the fan comes on with only my normal apps running (Eudora, Firefox, Yahoo IM)
Ok, that is about all up 'til now. I still haven't gotten my TechTool Deluxe CD but need to give that a few more days. I now have 8 install DVDs. (Another install #1 came yesterday, making a total of 6 #1, and 2 #2s) The address on the invoices are finally correct, most had the wrong town but the right zip code which I had corrected many times.
The problems that are still recurring are the keyboard problem, applications still sometimes crash "unexpectedly" even though I am quitting them, the file sizes are not right the first time around in finder list view windows. Most everything else was cured by the archive and install. Little weirdnesses still crop up though. I am not sure if the echo problem has been fixed. (Mac OS) Help is still slow to appear.
Thanks for bearing with me. I do hope things get smoother in the future. I have been using Macs for about 10 years now, starting with a used SE and 7.something, going to a refurbished LC 580 and 7.5.5, a new Powerbook Firewire and 9.2.2. I have also used 10.3.9 which seemed to be a lot more stable than 10.4.
    Cheers,
    John L

If it was me I would backup to DVD/ External HD if you have and erase / reinstall OSX.
Update all and once you are finished without the user folder / any of your files on torture the Pbook to see if this happens again.
This likely will be able to give you an idea about hardware or software problems.
If all is well , likely not then copy "COPY" over from the backup you "ONLY COPY" documents, music, Photo's, desktop stuff and also place programs back in Applications folder.
The reason for the above is that in the /user/"you"/library folder it stores the settings for Icon's, prefferences to programs and some other useless stuff + E-mails for either Mac Mail and or Microrubish Entorture "entourage" depending on what you have or used also Itunes prefs.
Once this is copied leave the "/user/you/library" stuff alone and see how it runs.
App's/programs will ask to have it's preferences set again as if /when you have installed it for the first time.
Likely most of the issues if software was in the/becuase of the settings in "/user/you/library".
If this solves a lot of problems the go with care and copy the "E-MAIL +/OR ENTORUTE/ENTOURAGE + ITUNES" to the same place as where they came from but obviously in /user/you/library/ subfolders etc. same subfolders.
For Entorture search for a file called "database" as this holds all the e-mail for entourage and by copying it, when you next open Entorture it will pick-up all emails + adresses etc like it was never moved also in the same spot as it was in the new instalation / subfolders etc..
If all this fails and you as close to what I reccomended here, there is then still some issues then likely it is hardware related.
How do I know this : Had for 5 times in 365 days had my Pbook in for repair so I have had to about 120+ times had to reinstall OSX 10.3.9 and/or Tiger.
I hope this helps as for hardware I am buying Alienware or Extreme as they can upgrade the cpuvideobasically all else except the motherboard " amd opteron 64 dualcore + Nvidia fx quadro 1400 + 1 or 2 hd's + 1/2 dvd's etc. etc. $2500"

  • How do I set one monitor calibration for the whole system and users?

I'm really angry because when I logged into my first default account, My settings where normal, but I logged into my alt account, the settings where all messed up (NO ONE TOUCHED MY COMPUTER, AND THE ACCOUNT HAS A STRONG PASSWORD) The white balance was that slightly blue one. So, I changed it, and logged in to the alt account again to see it was okay. I want to my main account and used screenlock, and noticed on the login screen (I logged out of the account after I saw to see this same thing) it was the light bluer white balance. So I logged in and calibrated AGAIN and it finally when back to the default on the login screen (2:2 or something and native white balance) and my preferences for my accounts (television gamma, and native white balance) I just want it system wide to be:
    -2:2 TELEVISION GAMMA
    -Native White Gamma
Or at-least the login screen, and my two accounts, and that settings to be the system wide default.

Thanks for helping me make it worse.
First off, if you want help, act like an adult. We're all just other users you're talking to, not Apple employees. Such angry behavior will only ensure that no one will respond to any questions by you in the future.
Second, there's nothing wrong with Kappy's advice. The /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ folder is accessible by all user accounts. So putting one common monitor profile there and setting it in each account is what you want to do.
What you're seeing is a known issue when switching users without restarting. I don't know if there's ever been a true solution for it.

  • IMac 4,1 with recent upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard....problem after problem after problem...PLEASE HELP!

    Hi,
I purchased our iMac 4 with Tiger OS X some time ago (2007) and until recently had absolutely no problems....and then, we met the Snow Leopard. I added the 2GB of memory without a hitch. Backed -up what needed to be backed up to an external hard drive, check. When I tried to install the Snow Leopard disc, it would only install partially or not at all and after almost 16 hours of trying to figure out where I went wrong, I took it to the Apple Store. They said our "antique" slot disc was malfunctioning (only playing CDs because of the different laser calibrations) and they performed a clean installation of Snow Leopard by external USB drive. Ever since we got the computer home it has been a NIGHTMARE! The computer freezes constantly. It runs much slower than before we performed the upgrade (even with an out dated Tiger!!), sometimes it doesn't even boot completely, leaving only the white screen and I'm going crazy! Finally, I get on to Safari without it freezing 15 minutes after loading (angles singing) and tried to purchase a software that will copy my iPod to the new iTunes. An error popped up politely stating that I had made a "BAD REQUEST - Your browser sent a request that this user could not understand. Reason: Your speaking plain HTTP to an SSL-enabled server port. Instead, use the HTTPs scheme to access this URL, please." Since he asked nicely, I clicked on the supporting link for more information. Now there is another error message "Your copy of Safari is missing important software resources. Please reinstall Safari". I have gotten this message twice before.
I know I can always take it back to the Apple Store, however, if I can try to diagnose the problem myself and save the strain of throwing it through the Apple Store's window causing a frustration inspired ruckus, I'd consider it a good day. Does anyone have the slightest idea what might have gone wrong? And is it really worth the aggravation (or apprehension hehe!)? Should I throw in the towel and purchase another one?
Any help or input would be graciously appreciated!!

Sorry for your pain! I would say since you have an open case with the Apple Store (they did something you say had a worse effect than before) you have a right to go back and continue, I would think. We could try to sort it out but it sounds like it could be fairly complicated. Four years old isn't that terrible, but it's not surprising to hear of CD drive problems. I think it is worth another trip back. Then you'll know better if it's time to buy new. And a refurb is cheaper than one of those plate glass windows!

  • Color / Monitor Calibration on 10.4.11

    Hello !
I have always used Adobe RGB to visually calibrate my HP ev19w monitor. The colors seemed to be OK and the whites were always very "clean" as I have only been working with monochrome images + have Adobe RGB as the workspace setting for Photoshop CS2.
I have an Ati Mac edition 9600 graphics card and am running on OSX Tiger 10.4.11.
I have now purchased a printer which was bundled with a HP Colorimeter (aka : Eye One Display 2) + I have downloaded + installed the latest driver. I have had several attempts using the device to calibrate my monitor - I cannot seem to get "clean whites" they seem to have an off-white / yellowish cast ? ....
I am "totally clueless as to why" ? I cannot seem to get clean whites on my "calibrated monitor" !!!
Any kind advice and expertise would be most appreciated ...
    Thank you in advance

    If I calibrate my monitor...
You don't mention how you're doing that, and it makes a very big difference. If you mean the Calibrate function in the System Preferences, then it's a crap shoot. That function assumes your monitor is set to a 6500K white point and a 2.2 gamma, which is its starting point. That's the only way it has of even having a chance of guessing what you monitor looks like when you're done using Calibrate. And that's all it is, a guess. It can't account for how accurate your monitor presets are, the aging of the monitor colorants or drift. If color is critical, you must use a hardware/software solution to get a monitor profile that means anything.
...how do I then handle my digital photos when working w/ Photoshop.
It's up to you. What Photoshop does is open and convert your images (if necessary) to the working color space. It passes that information off to ColorSync, which then translates it to your monitor profile. So no matter what the working space is, the color you end up viewing is your monitor's color space. Here's where you have to decide what to do in Photoshop.
    1) I use a wide gamut monitor, which LaCie says is 95% of Adobe RGB. According to a 3D profile mapping viewer I have, when I view one color space over the other, that's pretty accurate. I much prefer to use my monitor profile as my working RGB space. Then I absolutely know the color I'm viewing is not being clipped off. Everything is pulled into the color space I'm viewing. Why is this important? Say you shot something that was a very hot pink. That color may be in the range of Adobe RGB, but not your monitor. Your monitor space just clips that pink to the closest pink it can display. Now you get a new monitor with a better color range. That same image will look very saturated compared to your old monitor. And not just pinks, anything that Adobe RGB was carrying your old monitor couldn't display. People's faces may be glowing pinkish red, where they weren't before. Had you used your previous monitor's profile as your working space, it could be converted to the new monitor's space in Photoshop. The end result would be that you would hardly see any difference at all. I won't use a color space that my monitor can't represent. You're working blind in reference to color your viewing as opposed to what the file actually has in it.
    2) Use a large color space such as Adobe RGB regardless of your monitor's ability to display it. Advantage? You're not throwing any color out that your camera captured. Personally, I don't care. The color I can view is already incredibly saturated. Far more than any printer or even photographic paper can reproduce. What I may lose isn't anything to lose sleep over. Disadvantage? Some of what you're seeing. The embedded profile is NOT what you're viewing. When you send to the printer, it's sending color data based on the working color space, not your monitor's space. How you've calibrated your monitor (white point, gamma, luminance, etc.) can result in the printed output being a little different to a lot.
So there's give and take. Use your monitor profile as your working space and give up some of the original camera data, or work in a color space that is converted to your monitor's space and hold the original color data.
I like what I see on the monitor but sometimes I hate what I see coming off my printer.
I'm not sure if you mean colors are actually visually off (like greens print much redder than what you're viewing), or colors are generally accurate, but some are very dull compared to the monitor.
If the former, an inaccurate monitor profile is the most likely cause. Though it can also be using the wrong printer profile for the paper being used. Even if you have the right printer profile, it's a profile based on the printer (even though it's the same model) they used to create it. Your printer's print head is likely not laying down ink in exactly the same manner (which is nothing unusual).
If the latter, there's just a lot of color in RGB that cannot in any way be reproduced by fixed hue colorants on paper. Generally, the more saturated, wowwy zowwy color on screen, the less likely you'll get that on any kind of paper.

  • Apple CRT Studio Display Calibration in Leopard

My translucent CRT Apple Studio Display is with internal HW ColorSync calibration equipped.
In Tiger i have in Color tab buttons for Gamma, White Point, Ambient Light, Calibration and Profile. In Leopard is only Profile and manual calibration.
Automatic HW calibration for CRT Studio Display is no more supported in Leopard?

  • Fan Ramps to High/Loud in Panther and is fine in Tiger?

Just got my Dual 2ghz, the PCI 4gig max Ram version (currently 2.5 gigs installed), and in Panther 10.3.3 the fan begins ramping up after the OS loads and continues to cycle upwards until it reaches what I can only imagine is it's high setting. I stuck some ribbons on the back of the grill and they are floating in the wind. It's the fan on the bottom of the tower underneath the video card connection. I have a Panther partition and a Tiger partition. Tiger seems fine. Panther is a wind tunnel.
Does anyone, hopefully someone at apple, know how to fix this. I would love to stay in 10.3.3 on the Panther partition cause I'm catering to some moody software. Tiger is up to date. If I have to upgrade I will, but can't we fix this issue without upgrading. Is it the Radeon 9600 (128mb, Dual DVI) video card? I've noticed that none of the ATI updates address that card. The system does have problems coming back from sleep in Panther. That's usually caused by PCI cards but maybe the AGP card isn't happy. I should re-seat the card... I will.. Haven't tested sleep in Tiger yet. Seems to be running fine, and the fact that it's ok in Tiger leads me to believe that there has got to be a software fix for this thing. I know the boys and girls at apple are clever enough to fix this. I mean... come on... they brought us Final Cut and iPods. How hard is it to fix a fan? Please don't tell me I have to lug this thing into a nearby repair shop for re-calibration. Hook a brother up. Eagerly awaiting the miracle cure. Thanks for any input towards the fix.

    Hi Paul,
The G5 ran this way under Panther from the start. I need the Panther partition until all my software is Tiger capable. Plus my version of Pro Tools LE doesn't recommend that I go to the most up to date version of Panther. I think they recommend 10.3.6 unless I upgrade the Pro Tools software to the next level, which will cost me. You know how it goes. I was just hoping that the system I had on my G4 could be transfered over to my G5 partition and work as well there as it does on the G4, which it does except for the fan issue. I will try a fresh install of Panther since I cloned the drive originally. I'll let ya know what happens. Thanks.

  • MBP Calibration won't stay

    Hi,
I have a MBP 15" with an Envision external monitor hooked to it. When I bring it out from the Screen Saver, the Laptop LCD has this bluish tint to it. I click system preferences, display and "bam" problem solved.
But the reoccurring problem is that this happens ALL the time. What gives?
I found a previous thread where it was discussed, but no answer was given. This guy is having the same exact problem I am. What can I do to fix it?
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1352815&tstart=315

I don't know of a solution to this, but I occasionally experience this on a Mid-2004 PowerMac G5 running 10.4.11 Tiger. It goes into screensaver and when I get out of the screensaver, it the display is out of calibration. I do the same thing you do and it goes right back. Not sure why it does it...

  • Calibrating a used Battery

    Hi you guys.
I bought this used ibook less than a year ago. I have been using it for a while. When I fisrt bought it the battery would last for four to five hours. I know you are going to tell me that they only last for year or so but this one has been used for more than two years and stills get good juice out of it.
I was wondering if it is possible to calibrate it again to install tiger. I have been running Jaguar on it all this time and I my guessing is that tiger would give me half of the half I use it for regularly or it would completely drain it for the first 30 minutes.
Recently the battery only gets to be at 65% percent and then it goes to sleep. I will problably need to buy a new battery for a new operating system but in the mean time I am still deciding to buy a new ibook and keep using what this incredible ibook gives me for the moment.
Would it be worthing to calibrate it again? and if so. How could I calibrate a battery that only goes to 65%?

  • Have LR 1.3 working on Tiger OS... should I upgrade to Leopard

I recently bought an 20" IMac and was pleased that it came with Tiger installed so I could use LR while waiting for the 1.3 update.
Is anyone using LR with Leopard and are all the features in LR working?
Are all the features involved with Lepard working?
I am real interested in using Leopard's Time Machine application.

    Claude,
could you please share the url of these updated drivers (is this the beta drivers for Leopard -- I've not tried that).
I know there has been a great deal of discussion on the topic, but a precise solution to following I've not found:
The Epson SP 3800 driver I downloaded from the Epson site today was labeled as Leopard compatible (though it is not the beta written for the Leopard system) but did not print correctly from LR 1.3 on Leopard (10.5.1). I selected my paper profile for 3800 in LR and turned off printer color management in the print dialog. The exact same printing settings from Tiger in LR 1.2 and 1.3 prints very close to what my calibrated monitor suggests. The print from Leopard was washed out with a magenta cast. So, that url and advice would be most welcome!

  • Accurate Calibration - is it possible?

I'm a graphic designer who recently switched from an "old fashioned" tube display monitor to a flat screen display iMac (I'm not sure what year the iMac is though). I'm getting frustrated with the new screen for a few reasons. My old screen displayed color that matched the pantone colors and cmyk mixes pretty accurately to how it would be printed at a professional printing company. The new flat screen on the iMac does not. Also, the colors change depending on how the screen is tilted ... so if the screen gets bumped the color is off. Also, let's say I have Pantone 72 at the top of the page and at the bottom of the same page. The same color looks lighter if it's closer to the bottom of the display. I can't judge tints or transparancies well anymore in relationship to colors around it. I've tried playing with the display settings in System Preferences, but I don't know what profile to use or how to figure out the numbers I need to make my own profile. Does anyone else know what I mean? Does anyone know how to fix my problem. I'd rather not go back to a tube display because I know they're becoming obsolete, but I need to know how to calibrate my screen to show accurate colors.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I read the article (thank you for the link). I have OSX 10.4.6 and I have Tiger. So, now I'm even more confused why the color isn't consistent and why it doesn't display accurately. Another designer at my work has the same problem with her iMac screen. The colors are accurate when they print ... I need them to be displayed accurately while I'm designing so I can see if the color tint behind text is really going to be light enough to read the type on top of it or if the blue tint I used is really dark enough next to the other blue tint. I'm used to being able to judge how light and dark to make colors and transparencies by looking at it on screen while sliding the tint value bar and viewing it "live" so to speak as I build and tweak things. When I do that now it doesn't turn out right and I'm never sure which angle to tilt my screen because each way shows the colors differently.
I'm not real familiar with the ColorSync Utility ... is that where you go to customize a calibration setting? I wasn't sure which numbers to put in. Last night I view what my old monitors settings were ... do you think it would help to plug those in?

  • Printer adds blue, how do I fix this? color profile? calibration?

I have an HP 3210 printer and iphoto 06.
When I make a copy of a picture with the printer in stand alone mode, the copy is almost an exact.
When I scan the photo into iphoto and print it, the printer seems to add blue.
    How do I fix this?
Can I create a custom solor profile or something to get it right?

    Patrick:
First, you did check your ink cartridges to make sure you're not out in any of them? Duh. Make sure your monitor is calibrated. I use sRGB as the profile and adjust the brightness to make up for the aging monitor. Setting the gamma at 2.2 will help with just darkness.
Do you have iPhoto's Advanced preferences set to Embed Color Profile? Not sure what would cause too much blue but in the Advanced printer settings under the Copies and Pages menu there are a couple of sections that you can use to adjust the print settings; Color Option and ColorSync. Create a new setting under the Presets menu and save those settings before each trial so that once you get what you want it will be easy to just select that preset and print.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Color Calibration Off

I've seen this particular incident on both a PowerMac G5 running Tiger and an eMac running Panther.
On each of the machines, there is one user account where it seems that the brightness and contrast are off. The standard buttons look almost metalic, rather than having more subtle grey gradients across them. I've calibrated the monitor several different times (using both the Apple Calibration tool and using OptiCAL and a Spyder), and the color still seems off. Yet, if I go to another user, the color appears fine. So, it is my guess that there is something wrong with that particular account which is causing the issues with the color. Any ideas on what I can reset?
From what I've found so far, there are some calibration settings saved in /Library/ColorSync, but I didn't find any particular options in ~/Library/ColorSync.

I finally discovered the source of the problem.
I created a back up of the ~/Library/Preferences folder and then logged back into the troublesome account. Things looked OK. So I took at look at the new set of preference files that were created when I logged in. One by one, I copied over the new preference files. The final preference file was the one that fixed the problem.
    com.apple.universalaccess.plist
That was the preference file causing the problem. I went into the Universal Access panel, and near the bottom is a slider to change the Contrast. I set it back to Normal, and the screen didn't look so washed out any more.

  • Monitor Calibration under Snow Leopard 10.6.6

    Hello,
I´m using a EIZO CE 240 W hardware-calibrated monitor for Photoshop and a second one connected with it for the tools, which worked perfectly under Tiger, but doesn´t work properly under Snow Leopard. Does anybody know this problem? When I disconnect the second monitor it works, apparently Snow Leopard doesn´t work with two monitor profiles. The color is too yellow-greenish.
    Please help! Best wishes,
    Peter

Recently upgraded from OS X 10.5 to Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and am finding that both Quicktime Pro 7 and QT Player X save movies EXTREMELY slowly - like a factor of ten slower than before.  Can't find anything about this, but it can't be right - it's really unusable.
Are you "saving" or "exporting/sharing" the content? (I.e., what are the containers, audio and video compression formats, and dimensions of both your source and output files?)
