Calling Child record onto a Form Module

I am using 2 tables, Parents & Child, i.e 1 to many relations. Naturally the child table contains more than one record for the parent relationship. To make it clear one empno in parant table has more than one record in nominee tables. How I can call on to the FORM all the related records without using 'Execute-query' FUNCTION.

perhaps, I did not guess you right, if you create master(emp table)-detail(nominee table) form, then the nominee record will be automagically displayed for you when you query emp table.

How to achieve parent - child record insert in forms

Guys,
I am new to forms. I do have a requirement where I need to create one tabular block for 10 rows (parent record) and then I need to create three tabular tabs of 5 rows for detailed records (child). That means each tab can have 5 records for 1 parent row.. Thats how this parent-child structure has ONE to MANY relationships
To achieve this requirement I created one parent block of table type (using table XX_Parent) and then I created three detailed block for each tab (Tab_A,Tab_B,Tab_C) using child table (XX_Child). For each tab while inserting the data I took one context_value column in child table. i.e. when I insert the data using Tab_A , context_value column will be A. In the same way B and C for Tab_B for Tab_C respectively. And I wrote this logic at PRE-INSERT trigger for each tab. But when I insert the data for all the tabs, it allows me to enter successfully for Tab_A only, the moment I navigate from Tab_A to enter the data intoTab_B, it throws me error like "You are passing NULL value to set context_value". I hope I make the requirement clear to you.
I am not sure if I am following the right approach to achieve my requirement. if its not right, please suggest me right one.. and if its right please guide me resolve the error..

I had already created relations between Matster Block -Tab_A block, Master Block -Tab_B block and Master Block - Tab_C block...
The point is all the three tabs are created using one table XX_Child only.. I used context_value A,B and C respectively so that once I query the data for XX_Child from backend, I should be in a position to figure out what data is inserted using Tab A, B and C. why I need so .. because If take my entire form in query mode and search for a master record.. then Tab_A, tab_B and Tab_C display their respective data. I hope, I make you understand.. Can you please guide me.

Updating multiple records from single form (ASP)

I have a nested repeat region.
I have created in the parent, a form with 3 fields and an update button.
the child records all have multiple columns, 3 of which correspond to the parent.
Athe parent is bound to the child records by the shipmentID
I need to be able to update all child records from the form in the parent.
The case is this.
The child records are orders with shipdates and frequencies
The parent contains a form with fields for shipdate and frequency
The administrator needs to change the shipdate and/or frequency for all child records.
(The child records are forms as well--but that's another issue that works fine)

Customizing the task form - child records

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask this as I'm a bit of a newbie
Basically if I have an ADF form for a human task, I have a business object that includes the parent record fields plus a number of child record fields. Now, if I autogenerate the task form for this, it will give me something like the child records are in a grid and I can add and delete them. However, because there are a lot of child record fields, it is not desirable to have them in a grid format, rather the fields would be arranged in a form, showing one child record at a time, with buttons to scroll to the previous/next child record (I hope I am describing this well)
I'm starting to build the task form from scratch but I'm not sure how to implement the above part, so any advice would be appreciated.

Calling Form Modules

From my main form module I call by pressing a button a new
module, the problem I have is that in the called module all the
buttons are gone; when I compile the module they are visible, but
when I call it from the other module the are gone.

Hi ,
In smartforms you can call function modules in program lines . Thi9s can be done as :
1 . Right click on the object in smartform after which you want to call FM .
2. Create->flow logic->program lines
3. A editor will be displayed . In input parameter mention the variables you want to use as input in that editor and in output parameter you have to use the variables that will changes as the result of processing in the editor .
4. In that editor you can directly call a function module with import parameters specified in input parameters and export parameters specified in output parameters ..

Problem in deleting child record

I have a requirement to remove the child records.
I have two database tables (without any foreign key or database constraints). I have created EOs (ParentEO and ChildEO) and Association. I have created view objects (ParentVO with a transient attribute called "SelectFlag" and ChildVO) based on EOs.
I have created a MollyViewLink and created Application module (MollyAM) .VOs are associated with AM.
For detail records, I have created delete icon and I have written below code to handle the deleteChild event in detail region's controller:

Open dialog box window with checkboxes for each child record - Please Help

Hello Everybody
I have a 10g form with master record and 20 child records. In the child record form, currently there is a “Notes” Editor, which pops up when user click the “Edit” button. In the “Notes” editor, user enters remarks if anything is missing. For example, typical remarks will be: Statement is missing, LOC paper is missing etc.
Now, I would like to replace “Notes” editor with a dialog box. In the dialog box , I would like to add checkboxes with values “Statement is missing” and “LOC paper is missing” etc. along with “Notes” field. The user can select checkboxes. The value of the checkboxes should go in the “Notes” field with the ability to edit it. This way, user doesn’t need to type the most common notes every time.
I have created a “NewNotes” dialog box with checkboxes and multiline text Item. It is pops up when I click on the button. I have also created to WHEN_CHECKBOC_CHANGED trigger for each checkboxes so that the its value will go in a multiline text item.
But, I am not sure how I can link “NewNotes” dialog box to the each record in child record block. I would really appreciate it if anybody could give me some idea.

if i understand correctly you have a note item (based on table) on every child record? when you open the dialog box: how do you put data from notes to dialog box? in the same way as you can write it back ...

How to create Child record at the time of master record creation.

Hi,
I have MasterVO and ChildVO. And association between both are 1 to *. I have a requirement like, I need to create row in ChildVO at the time of MasterVO row creation.
I have used entity based association to create view link. This view link created ChildVO accessor in MasterRowImpl as type RowIterator.
Actually my idea is to override create method in MasterVORowImpl and call ChildVO ViewObject and call .createRow() method on it. But I don't have access to ViewObject, instead it gave access to RowIterator.
Could you please provide any pointer to achieve above functionality?

Hi Tim,
Now it is creating child record at the time of master row creation. But it is working only through BC tester. But when I drag the child VO instance in the jsff page, only master is get created as editable only, child is displayed as read only without populating any default values like child VO surrogate key and other default attributes. But through BC tester it is working fine.
Am I missing anything here while implementing in UI?

Problem with inserting new records in Oracle Forms

I am a new user to Oracle Forms and I need a help from you people. The problem is as follows:
I have a data block in which I can display a number of records. In this data block the user will be able to edit the fields if no child records are found in another table. I have used when-new-record-instance to attain this scenario. All are text items. One item licensee_id which is made invisible by setting the property in property palette and required=no ( as this is the primary key of the table). Also the audit columns are made invisible.
The code for it is as follows:

Every thing is compiling fine but at the run time when I am trying to insert a new record I am receiving the following error:
FRM-40508:ORACLE error:unable to insert record
I also think the pre-insert record is not firing at the time of inserting a new record and saving it. So I request you to please delve into this problem and suggest me how to overcome this problem. Code snippets would do more help for me. If you need any other things from me please let me know. I will see if I could be of any help in that concern because I may not be able to send the entire form as it is.

first of all
pre-insert fires after the implicit/explicit commit/commit_form is issued and before the real insert is submitted to the db.
i would suggest to remove the error handling part for the moment
because i believe you might be getting "ora-xxxx cannot insert null"
and also make visible the primary column to check if the pre-insert is executed.
it would be better to make visible for a while the not null columns of the table/block
i suppose that the block is insert allowed and you are using table as the source of the block and not any procedures or something...

The result I got was:
16RTE_20100331_1500_20NG_20100331_1500_6In the query you tried, you access a single record so you can't expect to get three rows "magically". The EXTRACT function just works as expected, it extracts the requested nodes, but the result is still an XML fragment (a scalar value).
In order to achieve your goal, you have to break the MolTimeSeries sequence into relational rows.
Two similar solutions are possible, XMLTable (10gR2 and up) or Table/XMLSequence.
In your other post you mentioned db version 10.1, so I guess we'll go with XMLSequence :

Unable to update record in web Form

Hi, i am unable to update record in a form. I am building a custom form using forms 6i and putting it on the web in oracle applications 11.5.9
I used template.fmb as a starting point for my form. I have one datablock based on a table. Insert, update and delete properties are set to yes on the property pallete of data block. The table against which i am running the form has a primary key which is a combination of two fields. I am able to update a record with pure SQL running against the table.
My form now brings back a record from the db like it should but whenever I try to update that record either by pressing Action Save or by clicking button that has update statement in it, instead of doing an update, it does an insert and tells me that this record already exists and that i entered value(s) that must be unique for each record. It thinks I want to insert but I want to update. What am i doing wrong???
Update allowed value is set to Yes in all the items in the data block and at the data block level as well. Querly_only is set to no.
What's even more frustratinng is that I've ran the form manually before starting with template.fmb and have been able to update the table but when I put it on the web and used template.fmb it stopped working!
I am very new to forms, can anybody suggest anything? Please help!!!

When you populate the 2nd block with a select into query, it's the same as just typing the data into the block. The record is treated as one needing to be inserted, not as one that is queried.
To populate it using a true query, but with data from the LOV, you can do this:
Programmatically set the default_where clause of the block based on the LOV. For example, if a name is chosen from the LOV in an item called LOV1, you could do:
set_block_property('block2','default_where','name='''||:block1.lov1||'''');
or if the LOV is a number, like a department number:
set_block_property('block2','default_where','deptno='||:block1.lov1);
The tricky part when you build your where clause is that you must surround strings with single quotes, and the way to do this is to use two single quotes to represent an actual single quote in the where clause. Otherwise a single quote is interpreted as part of the PL/SQL syntax.
Then, just navigate to block 2 and execute a query:
go_block('block2');
do_key('execute_query');
I hope this works for you. I didn't have time to test this, so I hope I didn't make any syntax errors when typing.

How to update child record when item from parent record changes

Hi, I have a master and detail form with two regions on the same page.
Region one references parent record, one of column in the parent record is also in the child record. And is one to many relation
between parent record and child record. How can I have the column on the child record updated when the column of the parent record is being modified?
For exemple; Parent record has two columns : ID and Program.
Child record has Program, goal# and status. I have two pages established, page 27 and page 28.
Page 27 list out all programs from parent record, by clicking on edit to a program, it braches to page 28 with program listed as editable field in region one, and mulitple records list in region two from the child record with the same program.
The problem that I am having is once the program in region one got modified using ApplyMRU, the program in child record did not get updated with the new value and therefore those record become orphan records. I need a way to update all current child records with the new program value.

One Idea is
If possible create a after update database trigger on the parent table to update the relevant child record.
Next one
Create a PL/SQL process on the parent page with process sequence next to ApplyMRU, so when the ApplyMRU is seccessfull it goes not to your process where you can have your update statement

How to obtain parent record from child record in relationship using API

Hi,
I have a record in the main table that is the child in a parent/child relationship to another main table record. Using the Java API, how would I obtain the parent record in the relationship where I am starting with the child record? In the API there seems to just be calls for getChildren, but not a getParent type call.
Appreciate any immediate help that can be provided.

Hi Eddie,
Please follow the below steps to retrieve only parents of a child Record.
1. Create RetrieveRelationshipsCommand.
2. Set the parameter RelationshipId.
3. Set the parameter Anchor Record and Anchor Record Id. In this case the child record for which parents records to be retrieved.
4. Set the parameter setGetChildren as false . This retrieves only the parent records for the specified child reocrd.
5. Execute the RetrieveRelationshipsCommand.
6. Retrieve member records from above step.

ADF,how to delete parent record and related child record without manual cod

I'm using 11g adf.
I have one parent table PAR and two child table CHD1 , CHD2 respectively.
I'm inserting values in three tables , making a form having add , delete and edit buttons.
Issue when i want to delete a record from PAR table , it gives child table record exists . i have did manual coding to delete the child records with related to the selected parent table PAR.
Is there any process in ADF to delete the child records with respective selected parent record with out manual coding.

Deleting Child Records

I'm a bit confused on how to accomplish the deletion of child records in a master/detail relationship.
I have a master table and a child table. I created a foreign link between the tables. On my detail table, I have a Delete button, which I would like to use for removing child records. I understand for the master table, I will need to enable cascade delete to remove the master and all children records.
Whenever I try to delete a child record I get the following error, integrity constraint - violated child record found. I understand the error, but how can I remove a single child record without deleting the master record. For example, I may have a 1 master record and 20 child records. I only want to remove one of the child records. The deletion seems to work fine when using AppModule or SQL Developer. Thanks.

Thanks Surendrams. Your question made me take another closer look. Apparently, I was calling the Delete operation from the master table. I added another Delete operation in the Bindings from my child table and the deletion is now working. I should have caught this the first time. Thanks.
