Calling function in data model

Hello All,
I am having 1 issues in a report.
Here is what i am doing.
I created a type of varchar2 and created a function which will return me the output of type.
this runs fine in sqlplus but when i put the same query in data model and join another set of tables,the data model is not able to determine the output of the colums.It shoes me a question mark and not the varchar field.
Due to this my generation to xml is failing.
Pls help
Thanks
Saurabh

  • Support of PL/SQL Functions in Data Modeler

    Hello,
    Sorry if this question has already been answered, I searched the forum but got 215 hits on data modeler + pl/sql functions.
    So my question is:
    Stored Procedures are already supported by the physical model (11g) of data modeler, but I could not find any method
    to create pl/sql functions via data modeler - neither in the documentation nor on the user interface. Is this
    currently not supported?

    Is this currently not supported?There will be support for functions and packages in next release.

  • Calling a User defined function from Data Model in BIP

    I am new to Procedures and Functions and am not sure if I am doing it right, so please bear with me.
    My User Function:
    create function MyTempFunction(@master_key varchar(max))
    returns VARCHAR(MAX)
    begin
    DECLARE @Names VARCHAR(8000)
    SELECT @Names = COALESCE(@Names + ', ', '') + vndt.name
    from
    [CMPROJ].[dbo].[VNDT] as vndt,
    [CMPROJ].[dbo].[CRQT_QUESTION_DISTRIBUTION] as CQD
    where CQD.parent_key=@master_key
    and CQD.project_name=vndt.project_name
    and vndt.initials=CQD.distributed_to_ini
    return @Names
    endIf I call the function in my query window I get a result:
    "Ron Swanson, Anne Perkins"
    But if I put the same query into my Data Model in BI Publisher and try getting the XML Output, my data is blank.
    This is how I call the function:
    select top 1 dbo.MyTempFunction('98d4dfa893164d138d5f961fa4') as Names from dbo.[CRQT_QUESTION_DISTRIBUTION]And I know that BIP did access the function, because the first time I tried to save the new SQL Query, it threw an error saying it was denied access to the function and I had to add the user to be able to execute the function.
    I am new to doing Procedures and Functions, so I am not sure if I am even doing it right.
    And don't know if even calling procedures or functions works form BIP.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the suggestion, but I still get nothing in the XML result set.
    I enabled some extra logging in the bipublisher.log file and I get an error:

  • Best practice - creating functions in data model vs. rtf template

    Just a general question. Is there a best practice of creating functions in the data model vs. creating the functions in the data template?
    For example, is it more efficient to sum two fields in my SQL query or to create a function in the template that sums the two fields? Just curious if there is any performance benefit of one over the other.
    Thanks!

    anything you push it to DB(SQL), will be the faster than processing outside.

  • Function calling function passing data

    We have developed an MQSERIES utility that is a function that calls many related functions and its purpose is to perform a variety of MQSeries functions with minimal interaction required by the user. The user provides the message, an activity code (pd for puts, gd for gets, pr for putting requests for replies, etc.) and a couple other parameters. The user gets back the message, a return flag (good, bad, truncated, etc). . Our MQSERIES function is a function of the calling module. Our function has it's series of includes with classes, functions, etc. The calling program needs a couple includes (to define the passed data areas) and a function prototype of our function (void mqcmd090(typefilefdi &, typefilemsg &, typefilemdi &);) and after the user does string copies and so forth into the passed data areas they currently call the function (mqcmd090(currpassarea, currmessage, currquetable);) After our function is called these passed data areas are manipulated by the user's module. They inquire into the return code, they may do activity (with message ids, etc), they manipulate the message and may send it back (replies, etc). Our dilemma is this. The users want our module to be stand-alone. It should be compiled and linked by itself. Their module should be compiled and linked by itself. They don't mind having a couple includes for the common passed structures but our modules should not be a function in theirs.
    How can I compile our function (and how can they call it) so that we can keep the communications going both ways between modules? A system call can't do it because they can send us information but they can't receive information back. If our module needs an upgrade we should just be able to change and recompile ours and their next execution should get the changes.
    I am at a loss and would greatly appreciate any assistance on this matter.
    Thanks,

  • Call function from data base with clob input parameter.

    Hello,
    In this project I use Jdev 11g.
    I call function from database.
    create or replace function get_fa_list (
    p_fa_id_list in clob
    return sys_refcursor
    is
    vCursor sys_refcursor;
    begin
    put_msg ('begin');
    if p_fa_id_list is null then
    put_msg ('CLOB is null!');
    else
    put_msg ('size CLOB: ' || dbms_lob.getlength (p_fa_id_list));
    end if;
    put_msg ('Save');
    open vCursor for
    select rownum as id, s.*
    from (
    select f.latitude, f.longitude, count (distinct f.res_id) as res_count, count (*) as fa_count, 16711680 as color, res_concat_distinct (f.res_id) as station_list
    from mv_frequency_assignment f, table (SplitClob (p_fa_id_list, ',')) l
    where f.ext_system = 'BI' and
    f.ext_sys_id = l.column_value
    group by f.latitude, f.longitude
    ) s;
    put_msg ('Open and End');
    return vCursor;
    end get_fa_list;
    I use TopLink in ejb.
    i use follow code for call function and get result.
    public List<TmpResPoints> findAllPointsBI(String p_id){
    UnitOfWork uow = getSessionFactory().acquireUnitOfWork();
    uow.beginEarlyTransaction();
    StoredFunctionCall call = new StoredFunctionCall();
    call.setProcedureName("get_fa_list");
    call.useUnnamedCursorOutputAsResultSet();
    ClobDomain c = new ClobDomain(p_id);
    //System.out.println(c.toString());
    call.addNamedArgumentValue("p_fa_id_list", c);
    ReadAllQuery query = new ReadAllQuery();
    query.setReferenceClass(TmpResPoints.class);
    query.setCall(call);
    List<TmpResPoints> result = (List<TmpResPoints>)uow.executeQuery(query);
    uow.commit();
    uow.release();
    return result;
    But size parameter "p_fa_id_list" is 0. (geting from temp table in Data base). this code in function >>
    if p_fa_id_list is null then
    put_msg ('CLOB is null!');
    else
    put_msg ('size CLOB: ' || dbms_lob.getlength (p_fa_id_list));
    end if;)
    How I can call this function from dataBase and get result?
    thx,
    Demka.

    What is the SQL generated?
    The argument should just be the Clob value (a String) not the domain object.
    Also try addNamedArgument, and then pass the named argument to the query.

  • Data modeler - howto assign process/function to data model

    Hello all
    Problem path:
    sd11 (data modeler)
    i.e model: UNIMODELL (this is the model used as training in help.sap.com)
    There is [functions/processes] button (F8)
    When using UNIMODELL there is a process assigned to model and I can choose it (goes to Display Module: A.... screen)
    But:
    when I create my own data model -> when clicking [functions/processes] i get:
    "No functions assigned" infrmation
    Where can I add fun/proc to my data model?
    Thx4anyHelp
    Mateusz

    What method did you use?
    If FK is created and not removed then no scope clause is added - no need for that.
    It works for me:
    CREATE TABLE TABLE_2
    Column_2 REF StructuredType_1 ,
    Column_3 REF StructuredType_1
    ALTER TABLE TABLE_2
    ADD ( SCOPE FOR ( Column_2 ) IS TABLE_1 )
    ALTER TABLE TABLE_2
    ADD ( SCOPE FOR ( Column_3 ) IS TABLE_3 )
    table_1 and table_3 are of StructuredType_1

  • Can anyone describe how to cut and paste table columns in Data Modeler?

    A number of times I have tried using the copy and paste columns functionality in Data Modeler, but in all circumstances when I've copied a set of columns from a table (by highlighting the column set and pressing the copy columns button), opened a new table, and pressed the paste columns at the end button, nothing has happened. is there some unintuitive thing that I need to do?

    Ok, thanks.
    I see I left "Copy" out of the first reply I sent.
    1. Create a table or tables, say tables A and B.
    2. Expand the table which has the columns you want to copy, say table A, in the browser
    3. Shift (or ctrl) select the columns and select COPY from the context menu.
    4. Click in the table you want to copy to, say table B, in the diagram and right-click to use the context menu , select paste
    or select the table B in the browser and right-click, select paste.
    Are you using the copy in the menu?
    There was a bug in our Early Adopter that required you continued to hold the keys, but this has been addressed - you can read this thread to see how things were handled there: Re: Data Model: set of columns

  • How to fill data when call function of sap standard script form?

    Hi every experts,
    <Priority Normalized>
    In our system, when we log in 'FR', we can print purchase order in language Franch,in t_code:ME22N.  And when logging in 'EN', we can print it in language English, in ME22N. The English form is just only translated from Franch, with all same structure and frame.  The form is done by script form.
    And when logging in 'ZH', we create a new program, calling function smartform, instead of translating from EN language. Because of different structure and frame, I don't know the way to write script, so  I print puchase order by smartform, when logging in 'ZH'.
    But I have a new issue. Our MM module consultant needs me to print Chinese form if one condition, print English form in other condition.
    So I have no idea to solve it. Because in my program, I get data to fill smartform and call function of smartform. And I don't know how to get data to fill script form. I only know the function name, 'OPEN_FORM' 'WRITE_FORM' 'CLOSE_FORM'.....
    If I only call the several functions, I will get only frame without no data. So who can tell me how to do????

    Hi,
    Normally if we look in NACE transaction, you can see that upto five different FORMS can be assigned to a single output type . i.e. for each form there will be a seperate routine through which it gets called. But it all start from the first form only.
    so you need to write your code in the ENTRY of the first form and if it does not satisfy do not go for processing of it but just exit of that form ENTRY. so that it will take you to next form.
    hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Function based indexes in Data Modeler 3.0

    Trying to create a function based index in DATA MODELER 3.0 but cannot find a way to do it. When I reverse engineer (import from DATA DICTIONNARY) an existing table that contains such an object, the index appears in the physical model as a regular index. I guess this functionnality is not yet available...
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    You can create a function-based Index by going to the Properties dialog for the Index in the Relational model (not the Physical model). If you select the Index Expression tick box, you can then enter the expression into the Expression text area.

    - What OS is Siebel running on?
    - What version of the Siebel connector are you using?
    - Which libdnd.so file are you using?
    - What's the contents of your dnd.parms file?

    Anyone knows how to write a call function to extract data from a structure table?
    Your help is very much appreciated.

    Hi,
    structure doesnot hold any data. instead of it you can check the stucture in which table it is used, find the table name,use select query to extract the data u needed.
    you can use where used list option to find the structure in which table it is used.

    Please tell me what DATA Type to use using passing and reciving values from this function module.
    Once I get the value, I want convert the WEEK into Type 0CALWEEK. Please tell me how to this also.
    Regards, Dheeraj

    Hi Mti,
    I tried what you recommended.
    But I get the error TYPE SCAL is not permitted.

  • Call Multiple RTF for same data model

    How call two templates for the same data model.
    what is the logic i have to use in the rtf template.
    Thanks in Advance

    Your RTF template will use the data model you defined.
    So no logic than just inserting the xml elements your data model provides.
    You can associate multiple templates to one data model. At runtime you will have the opportunity to select
    the template of your desire to run the data against.
    If you want this process to be automated then you will have to user bursting and for that you need to read this:
