Camera Flash Effect (Post Editing)

I want to create some type of strobe that would portray as if someone were taking a picture? I want to use it is as a transition between 10 photos. Just wondering how I could do this in Motion or FCP.

Achieving a Camera Flash effect in FCE HD?

Hello.
I am trying to achieve a camera flash effect in FCE HD, but I don't think there is any effect that will do this. Does anybody have any ideas of how I can go about creating my own?
Basically I have a scene where there is a group of people in the film, and I want to add sounds like a camera shutter going off, and add a corresponding number of flashes to illuminate the group for a few seconds.
Any ideas? I am sure there was an effect like this for iMovie, but I can't find any reference to that either...

I'd like to add to what Tom wrote...I find that two frames is just about right to produce the flash effect.
As for the sound, start looking on the many sound effects websites out there. I'm sure you will find it and can download it for a reasonable fee. Or you can make it yourself by recording your own camera's shutter.

Anyone have a work flow to create a camera flash in Motion and be able to change the color?
I've seen a way using Bloom over in FCP but I'd like to create it in Motion.

Ok, Tom I am starting to feel really stupid now. I have applied and re-applied this to the clip in the timeline and yet, nothing happens! Quite frustrating to say the least. I can't understand what i am doing wrong with this. I have the clip highlighted and active in the time line. I am using the keyframe under the canvas (is there a different one I should be using?) Sometimes I have seen it working in the canvas, but after it gets done rendering the clip doesn't change. Any suggestions?

Stabilizing A Camera Flash

I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem. I'm trying to stabilize footage taken at a wedding. Problem is, every time there is a flash from a camera, it throws off the stabilization analysis and the result becomes wacky. Has anyone come across this problem?
(If it'll be easier, I can upload a video sample. Just let me know.)

I concur with mark. remove the flash frames, and then stabilise an export. If you stabilise the clips you will probably get the same effect as the whole length of the media clip is looked at, not just then length in your timeline. If the joins are too ragged then you could always add your own camera flash effect over the top to hide the join.

Effect Essentials - Camera Flash

I used to love using this plugin but I can't seem to get it to work in FCP 6.0.5. Can anyone confirm that it is outdated and unusable? I've been toying around with Nattress' Film Flash and Eureka's Flash Cross but they're simply not the same. If anyone knows a recipe to get either of them to mimic Camera Flash I'd appreciate it.

Thanks gogiangigo and D. Gilmore. I ended up using both your ideas to achieve the look I use to get from Camera Flash. For the first half of the transition I use FCP's Bloom filter to get the added colors in the glow. For the back half of the transition I use the stibs filter and colorize it with some orange to mute the flare. It works quite nicely. Thanks. Who do I press the 'Solved' button for?

HELP! I have a pic that has a camera flash right in the middle

Hello,
I am using an old version of photoshop and need help getting rid of this camera flash that is right in the middle of my picture.
I don't think this will be easy, but any advice would be appreciated!

I assume this is a small part of a larger picture?
I'm afraid I'm not an expert at photo - retouching but that looks like a lens flare to me.
If I was trying to re-touch this it would take forever and I'm not sure I could ever make it invisible, perhaps someone else can and will post a solution.
Now what I would do is cover it up.
Put someone else at the critical point, add some flowers or decorations. Basically take it out of the image by hiding it.

Camera flash stays on and crashes the device

I have the camera flash set to automatic. Whenever it flashes, it doesn't just flash--it stays on and crashes the entire device (except for the light). A battery pull resets the device (including the light). Something about the flash function is causing it because if the camera does not use the flash there is no problem. Any recommendations?

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Try opening the video camera and using the light. Any problems?
I would open the camera, options, change the flash to any other option then save.
Open the camera again, select the flash option desired and save. Then do a battery
pull as listed.

Camera Flash ON- Won't turn off

I took kids out to the beach yesterday and had my phone in my holster and on my belt and totally forgot. It got a little wet and I took it off and put it aside. It stayed ON and I even received a call from it. When I hung up the phone after the call, the Camera Flash turned on and I am unable to turn it off. It is draining the battery.
The phone turns on completely fine, I can check my email, send and receive emails, phone calls and can text but the camera flash light remains ON. I have tried everything and have even turned the flash OFF but it is not working.
Has anyone else seen anything similar? I was reading up on posts and someone had a similar issue with BB Pearl and reinstalled the OS and it seemed to fix the issue.
Please advise.

The strip on the battery means nothing.
There is a square white 1/4" sticker inside the device, normally if you remove the battery you will see it. That is the actual device Liquid Damage Indicator... and STILL, high humidity (not full moisture or liquid) can cause the issues you're describing. Keeping the device powered on, loading a new OS, removing and inserting the battery, can possibly only further damage the device.
Moisture can come from laying a bathroom counter during a hot steamy bath or shower, in a gym locker, in a pair pants or shirt pocket while your sweaty during a run or workout, etc.
IF there is a remote possibility of anything like that, remove the battery, and place the device and the battery in a bag of dry white rice for 3-4 days.

Can PE3 synchronize two video sources for post edit AB roll?

In PE3, is there a way to synchronize two digital video files (AVI) to create a AB roll type post edit. My two captured video files seem to have different frame speeds or frame durations. How do I align and frame match 2 video sources? The situation is a 2 camera shoot. How to best create an AB roll edit of the 2 videos sources with audio from one video file as the common element?

Armed with Steve's article, you should be able to do what you want.
I've got a question, and maybe a suggestion to address the frame-rate problem early on, to help solve that problem without a lot of fiddeling. What are the two frame-rates? G-Spot will tell you exactly, if you can not find this in Properties. If the source files are DV-AVI, they should be of the exact same frame-rate to begin with, but if one is off a bit, I'd convert the non-DVD spec one to match. First place I'd try this would be to simply Interpret Footage in the Project Panel. If that does not work, then Windows Movie Maker can do this for you, or you can use other conversion tools to get them to match. I use DigitalMedia Converter, but it's not freeware. Getting the two sources into perfect sync in the beginning will go a very long way to achieving success.

[Caveat] I do not have PE3, only PE4, but I think that this will apply to your version.
[Edit] After reading Steve's article, the one thing that I would do (after establishing sync) to assist me in editing multi-camera would be to set the Video Track Display to show all "frames" and the expand the height of each of the two Video Tracks (VT's), so that they occupy most of the vertical real estate in the Timeline. Then, I'd zoom in on the horizontal display of the Timeline, so that I could see fairly clearly, each frame. This basically makes the Timeline like a detailed Sceneline, but keeps you in Timeline Mode. Because you do not have the Multi-camera Mode that PrPro does, you will not be getting anything but your upper Video Track footage in the Program Monitor. You will be viewing the footage ON the Timeline. This WILL necessitate a lot of horizontal scrolling on the Timeline, but is doable. Then, when you wish to be using the footage from VT1, you will cut out (Sissors Tool) the overlaying footage from VT2. I'd personally arrange my main footage (like the main Audio Track in Steve's article) on VT1, and my "cutaway" camera's footage on VT2. As VT2 takes prescedence over VT1, you can leave VT1's footage pretty much alone, and just cut the footage on VT2. I would use Cross-dissolves on the Head and Tail of the the "cut" Clips on VT2. Remember that if you use these, you will want to make sure that the cut has come where you want the scene on VT2 to absolutely start, or end. The Duration of the Cross-dissolves will determine when the scene either becomes 100% visible (Head), or 100% invisible (Tail). Also, remember that Dip-to-Black on VT2 takes the image on VT1 to black, hence my use of Cross-dissolves.
Using this method, also allows one to do a bit of nudging of the Clips (cut from the original) on VT2, to compensate from any loss of sync. Though you could possibly use this to adjust for the differences in framerate, I'd still try to get the footage as exact, as is possible, to start - a lot less work that way. Also, once the "holes" have been cut into the footage on VT2, you can start to use the Program Monitor much more.
As Steve points out, PrPro makes it easier by locking Tracks and a Multi-camera dual monitor, when in Multi-camera Mode.
This was exactly how we did it with film, except that we had to splice in black leader, where the cuts were made, and could not keep our VT1 footage intact, as we can with an NLE and video. Since we were dealing with sprocket holes, we had spiked gears (sprockets) on a "sync block" and once we'd get the alignment right, would physically flip down a guide, that would "lock" the film to those two rolls of film to the sync block. Even though it sounds tough, when you read it, it's really not, and so very much easier, than it was with film.

Camera flashes become banding once imported into AE

Hello all, I'm working with footage that was shot in a club environment with camera flashes going off and once I exported said footage from Avid Xpress Pro (as QT mov with Animation setting) and import it into AE7 the camera flashes turn into visible bands of light that look really bad. I've interperted the footage correctly (D1 720x486 29.97, lower field first) so I'm at a loss as to what is causing this. I tried a levels adjustment to bring down the luminance but nothing changed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Could you export a faulting frame from AE, and the very same frame from Avid and post them here ?
If you read the file from QT, do you have the banding issue ?
If you open the QT file in Avid, do you have the banding too ?
I guess this problem could come from the conversion to QT animation, but i'm not sure.

Galaxy S6 Camera flash issue

Has anyone else experience the camera flash issue that is posted on the web? I'm experiencing it on my Black 64GB version. Never had an issue until I opened the camera app for the first time..It was at night so when I turned the camera off I kept noticing this faint light on the back. I thought it was just the brightness of the yellow of the flash because it is bright, but when I went pitch black, I can still see the faint glow of the camera flash. It will not cut off. I've turned the phone completely off and it still shows....It is definitely draining my battery and it's starting to bother me. Just curious if anyone else noticed. According to the web, samsung is aware and working on a fix for it.

No problem...No, I was not able to resolve issue. The temporary fix is to
wipe the phone and then not use flash on your camera or the flashlight; for
me that defeated the purpose...I just continued to return the phone until I
received one that doesn't have the issue...took me 2 exchanges but I think
I've found one that doesn't have that issue.
