Can 9233 measure AC voltages across a register in a circuit or from any voltage-type sensor?
I actually have tried this, but uncessussful.
I guess that this was due to the current source for IEPE inside the module which yields 22.2 V when no load is connected.
As I know, I can't swistch off the IEPE so that the large voltage of 22.2 V has to strongly couple with my measurement target and thus producing some rubbish date.
Now my question comes:
Do you know any way-around to measure above still with using 9233, for example, some active adaptor unit that converts DI to SE, or
simply using two SE channels for producing a DI(still the problem is the current source?)?
Thanks in advance from Korea

I don't know how to make it any clearer. You posted your question to the wrong board. You will have much better luck if you repost your original question to the correct one. If you had done it correctly in the first place, you could have already gotten an answer. If you don't want to do that, then fine.
To repeat
The Measure board (where you have posted) is for an old add-in program to Excel. The add-in is called 'Measure'. The Measure part of the board name does NOT mean generic measurement problems.

Can I measure voltage with a current module by removing the resistor?
I'm trying to measure a 0-10 VDC signal and I don't have any voltage throughput modules for my 2345 signal conditioning unit. I do have some SCC-CI20 (4-20mA) input modules that use a 249 ohm resistor. The output from these modules are 1-5 VDC as expected. I'm wondering if I remove the resistor do I not have a voltage module?
Please help, I need to get some measurements done soon.
ThanksHi,
Yes, you can use the CI20 module to read in voltages. Connecting a voltage source in parallel with R3 will result in the same potential drop to appear across the R3 resistor (see diagram attached).
Make sure that you DO NOT configure the CI20 in the Measurement and Automation Explorer, so you can read the raw voltage. Also DO NOT supply more voltage than 5V, or you might damage the module.
Hope this helps,
Lesley Y.

Best structure to measure voltage across 8 resistors in parallel via 8 separate analog channels
Im setting up a simple circuit w/ 8 resistors in parallel. It will be connected to a PCI 6036E DAQ. I need to measure the voltage across each resistor, take x amount of samples, and then automatically move on to the next resistor and so on and also save the values to a file. Im going to connect each resistor to a separate analog channel. I have already setup a vi to read the voltage across one resistor and take X amount of samples, display the waveform, and also save the data to a file.
What would the best structure be to run this test? I am thinking a Sequence structure, but it seems like people tend to avoid using that. Or would a case/while loop be better?
From my understanding, the data will not pass out of a sequence structure until it is finished. this doesnt seem to be that big of a problem for me, as I only want the data at the end....
thanks for the help!Use a for loop. Put your code inside the loop, but delete the analog channel number. Make an array constant and poplulate the array with each analog channel number. If you wire the array to the loop (left side), you will see the terminal is a hollow box. This means indexing. The loop will operate on the first array element, then repeat with the second array element, and so on until all array elements have been processed. Wire the hollow box to the point in your code where the analog channel number was deleted. Now the loop will execute the same code using a different channel each time. If you wire the output to the right edge of the for loop, you will again see the hollow box. All of your measurements will be contained in an array at that hollow box. Process the outputs as you like, maybe display the entire array, or index the array to get the individual elements, whatever. The advantage of the for loop is that you have to write your code only once. Everything is seen on one screen making it easier to read. Sequence structures are not good programming practice because a lot of the code is hidden, and you have to go to different sequence frames to see the hidden code. Also, why duplicate the code in each frame when the loop will do it all. Good luck.

Can I measure the analog USB supply voltage using Labview?
I'm basically powering a sensor from the 5V (nominal) USB supply but the full scale output depends upon the actual input voltage for any particular measurement- what I want to do is get labview to measure the voltage at the USB port at the same time it samples the sensor voltage output then from that the full scale output for that instant in time can be calculated and thus give a more accurate measurement. Can this be done in labview? Thanks very much.

Solved!
Go to Solution. There is no such hardware feature that is universal to all motherboards. Additionally, depending on the current being used, the length of the usb cable, etc. the voltage present at your sensor would also vary, probably a lot more than the 1% accuracy. I know that some motherboards have onboard monitoring of key voltages, but think it more at the the "main 5V" level, not individual usb ports.A USB DQ device may be the only way to actually measure the supply voltage at the sensor.

Can I measure AC voltage using FP-AI-102? I want to measure in the range of 0-120 VAC
Can I measure AC voltage using FP-AI-102? I want to measure in the range of 0-120 VAC
Hello Luis,
The update rate on the AI-102 module is 360Hz, which means that you can only accurately acquire waveforms with frequencies below 180Hz.
FieldPoint wasn't made for high speed measurements, so you will have to make sure that you are able to acquire the waveform you want to with the hardware that you have.
If you want to know how you would do the acquisition, I urge you to take a look at the LabVIEW shipping examples.
Help»Find Examples... and browse to Hardware Input and Output»FieldPoint»Analog IO
As for writing to the file, you can take a look at examples under Fundamentals»File Input and Output. You can use the functions included in the Functions Palette under Programming»File I/O.
I hope that this helps!

Can i measure resistance with a PCI-MIO-16X-10
good day!
In my work we measure inflator resistance with an external ohmeter and switch selector, for now we're working in update this method of measure resistance. The program used to activate the inflators was built in labview 7.0 and use a GPIB and PCI-MIO-16X-10 boards only.
The question is if we can measure resistance with this board (PCI-MIO-16X-10), we can do it?
thanks for all...Cordero,
Not directly but with some auxiliary circuit elements you can. To measure a resistance you need to know both the voltage and current associated with the resistor.
One way you can do this with a DAQ device is to create a voltage divider using a known external resistor. By measuring the voltage drops across both the known and unknown resistances, you can calculate the value of the unknown resistance. You can use the analog output or the board power supply as excitation voltage for the voltage divider. Use two analog input channels to measure the voltages across the resistors. As long as the values of the resistors are much lower than the input resistance of the analog input channels, you can get good results. The accuracy is limited by how well you know the value of the "known" resistor, the resistance of the inputs, and the accuracy of the A/D converter. The accuracy of the known resistor is probably the largest contributor to the overall error.

How can I measure power consumed by a digital cmos circuit
Hi,
I'm trying to measure the power consumed by a cmos digital circuit. Can anyone please give me the steps to do that?
I have already created a simple XOR circuit using basic CMOS gates. I understand that I can measure the power by conecting a wattmeter, but how exactly do I connect it to my circuit?
Please help.
AsmitHi Asmit,
Digital parts in Multisim behave base on on/off and there are pin drivers at the gate input/output pins to drive a high or low logic to the appropriate voltage level. The model doesn't provide you with power consumption.

I have trouble reading a voltage across a FP-AI-102.
I have read a constant voltage across a voltmeter, yet when I plug into the FP-AI-102, the voltage jumps around. I have also tried changing the source of the voltage to a DC power supply, in which case the LabView software reads the voltage perfectly. I believ it is a problem in my programming. If you have any suggestions on a possible way to program the LabView to read the voltage, please let me know.
It sounds like your voltage is an AC voltage. Your voltmeter typically will employ an integrating ADC which essentially averages its readings to get a steady reading. If your signal is changing, similar to a sinus signal, you will see a changing voltage at the fieldpoint analog input level. Since the ai102 can scan its inputs at about 200hz or more (2.8ms), you get lots of voltages to work with. You can test this theory by putting your voltage on an oscilloscope.
So, in LabVIEW scan the voltages as fast as you can, and then either average, or better yet use a statistical median. I like the median as it is not affected by outliers.
I hope this helps.

Im looking at a bearing reading and i only want it to do a case loop if the data has changed on the bearing, so i need a value of what it was a cycle ago to compare it with, how do i do this?
Hi,
I'm not sure I,ve understood you clearly but it looks like you need to use "shift registers" in the loop.
Shift registers allow you to pass data from one iteration of the loop to another. For example in the situation when you need to know the value of some variable on previous iteration or on pre-previous etc.
To create shift registers on the loop you have to right click on the border of the loop and select "Add shift register" from pop up menu. Two arrows will appear on the left and right sides of the loop. To write data to the shift register you have to wire them to the right arrow, and to read data you have to read it from the left arrow. When you read data from shift register you read the value from the previous iteration. When you write data - you wri
te the curent value there. If you want to read preprevious data you have to click on the left side of shift register and select "Add Element". The new element (arrow) will appear which corresponds to preprevious value. And so on. To initialize shift registers before execution of the loop you have to wire the some data from the outside.
Another solution of your problem is using of local variables. You can create them from pop up menu of each control or indicator on the diagram. You can set them as read or write local.
Good luck.

How can I measure the hertz in a wave form?
How can I measure the hertz in a wave form?
As an example, this is from BBC Technical Requirements for HD material:
3.1.1 Stereo line-up tones
All stereo tracks must use EBU 1KHz tone (left ident). All tones must be sinusoidal, free of distortion and phase coherent between channels.
Digital Audio Reference level is defined as 18dB below the maximum coding value (-18dBFS) as per EBU recommended practice R68.
See also:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/guidelines/dq/pdf/tv/tv_delivery_to_network_programmes_v1.2-2011.pdf
for full document.
And for BBC Radio:
Not every Network requires tone. Check the delivery requirements with the commissioning network or click here.
Reference tone, where used, should be at -18dBFS or PPM 4 on A, B and/or M.
If submitting material with reference tone, tone and programme material must be have been monitored and measured through the same technical chain. The level of the tone must be equivalent to 0dBu and no less than 8dB below peak audio level for the programme material.
THE LEVEL OF TONE MUST HAVE A KNOWN RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LEVEL OF THE PROGRAMME MATERIAL AND THIS MUST BE STATED; for example: “Tone at 8dB below peak programme level”.
As a newcomer to digital sound (my background is camera) I confess to being somewhat confused. We are normally told to record at the highest level possible. So for voice podcasts I tend to record at about -6dB below peak for maximum volume, distributeds on MP3 files.
But I can underatand that televison and radio especially for analogue transmission) may have limited headroom, hence the requirement for -18dB peak = 0dBM.
I remember when we first rented out Digital Betacam cameras, some recordists were recording almost everything OVER -18dBM.
I suspect that until we have an all-digital world, these requiremnents will still be in place.
Many thanks to all. It's a ghreat community!

Can a measure map to multiple fact tables
Hi Experts,
Can A Measure in an Universe map to multiple fact tables? For example, we have sales detail table by day and store and product, and have sales summary table by day and region and (product) department. We like to create a measure to map to both detail table and summary table. When I run query includes store and product, the query will automatically use the sales detail table; and query can automatically choose the summary table when it only includes region and department. Our database table could be in Teradata and Oracle. Can we achieve it and how? If a measure can't achieve this (dimension awareness), what the other option we can have and how to do it?
Thank you,
RichardHi Sion,
After I make the tables incompatible with the dimension objects on different levels, the measure can point to the right table if my query only include Store and Product or only include Region and Department. But in some scenario, the business could ask to include both Store and Region or Item and Department in same query. The current approach doesn't work on this further request. In our database, we have store table including Region with other higher level organization information, Product table including Department with other higher level product information, and we also have separated Region table and Department table. Could we make the objects more flexible u2013 query will be against aggregation sales table if dimension objects in query are only on higher level and will against detail sales table if some of dimension objects are on high level and some on low level?
Many thanks,
Richard -
