Can a project recorded on garage band 11 be moved to computer using 09?

My daughter is working on a group project creating a podcast with GarageBand.  I have GB 08 on my Mac, computers at school have GB 09.  If I upgrade to GB 11 can she then export project and use it on a GB 09 equipped computer?

Make sure you understand the difference between an Audio File and a GarageBand Project File (also known as GarageBand Song File)
The + sing in the My Songs page is for opening a GarageBand Project File, either a new one or one that is copied vie the iTunes File Sharing mechanism. If I understand you right, then you want to import an Audio File from your iTunes library in a GarageBand Project and not open an existing GarageBand Project.
To import an Audio File from your iTunes Library to an existing GarageBand Project.
Make sure you sync your iTunes Library (all songs or a selection) to your iPad. This is the standard procedure so you can listen to your iTunes Library on your iPad (this step has nothing to do with GarageBand yet)
Once you are in your GarageBand Project, tap the Loop Browser icon (the ribbon) to open the Loop Browser
The misleading part here is that this window can display three tabs, not only the Apple Loops. It also displays any synced audio file via the iTunes Fle Sharing (the tab is labeled "Audio Files) and also any songs that you have synced to yoyr iPad that I just described. This tab is now called "Music".
Look at the screenshot of my previous post. The Music tab provides the same browsing capabilities (Playlists, Artist, etc) as your iTunes.
Navigate to the Kareoke Song (audio file) and drag it onto a GarageBand audio track
I explain all those details and concepts in my GarageBand book
    Hope that helps

  • Can't import ringtone from Garage band 6.0.5 to iTunes 11.0.4

On my Mac I can't import ringtone from Garage band 6.0.5 to iTunes 11.0.4. I can create the ringtone but when I share it vanishes instead of going into the Tones like it used to do.

Is that, how far you get?
You select, "New Project" and select a "Podcast" project template? And then you get that error message? Or do you see the File Choser dialogue, but get the error message, when you try to save the project?
That can either mean, that the "Podcast" project template is not readable, or that you cannot write to the GarageBand folder in your home folder.
Check the System Library, if the Podcast template is properly installed:
    /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Templates/Projects/
Look into the folder "Library", directly on your MacintoshHD, then "Application Support", "GarageBand", "Templates" for 08. Podcast.band.
If it is not there, then your GarageBand installation is incomplete and you need to reinstall it. If the file is there, check the permissions. Can you open the file 8. Podcast.band, if you copy it to your Desktop and double click it, to open it in GarageBand?

  • Recording in Garage Band

    Hello,
I can record into GB using my Mac's built-in mic, but when I try to record with an external mic, using a Tascam US-122, although the GB meters show that GB is hearing the sounds, it will not record the sounds. I have downloaded the updated drivers for OSX 10.3 from the Tascam web site, but Tascam doesn't seem to offer any more recent update than that. I am running OSX 10.4.7. Is this version of the OS just too new, or am I missing some technical detail/work around? Thanks.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the feedback.
Yes, Tascam US-122 shows up in the Garage Band Audio input and output, as well as in the Sound I & O selections in System Prefs. Negative on Intel. I am using an aluminum G-4 PowerBook with 2 GB of RAM and no other apps open when I am in Garage Band. I am running OSX 10.4.7.
I am now getting a tiny bit of audio output on playback when I record into Garage Band, but only if I turn the output volume up to 11 on the Tascam unit. However the fault seems neither to be the Tascam itself, nor the external vocal mic (a Carvin knock-off of a Shure SM 58). All of the wiring, the connections and the powered speakers are functioning perfectly. If I turn the monitor on and sing or speak into the mic, I get all the volume I could ever ask for out of the speakers, with fine clarity and no static, etc. that might indicate faulty wiring or loose connectors. But when I record into GB with the record levels turned all the way up in the System Prefs Sound pane, Garage Band, and on the US-122, the playback comes out barely audible...even though all the VU meters are maxing out when I record, and the playback level is going off the scale during playback. Any ideas? I am flummoxed.

I realised that you just need to go to System Preferences > Sound > Input > and uncheck 'Use ambient noise reduction'. mmm answered my own question.

No, use a direct box, the Klark Teknik DN100 specifically.

  • Using Built-in Audio/Mbox for recording on Garage Band - Need Help!

So I just found out that Pro Tools is not yet compatible with Leopard, so I'm working in Garage Band. I want to use live guitars and mics, and I'm curious about the inputs.
Obviously for guitars all I have is 1/4" cables. If I get an 1/8" converter for it, and put it into the headphone jack on my computer, will Garage Band recognize it?
What other interfaces for 1/4" does anyone suggest? I CANNOT get Mbox to work at all. All I get is 'Error code 28773.' Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks everyone -

  • A cappella recording in Garage Band

I am recording individual vocal tracks to produce learning tracks for a cappella arrangements.  I've done a cappella recording in a studio before (don't know what program was being used), and we used a pitch track to listen to while recording our individual parts, so that we could be assured of staying in pitch.  I've been looking for something similar in Garage Band.  I've found an AU Pitch plug-in and created a separate software instrument, but if it is intended to support one particular pitch, I can't figure out how to assign the pitch.  I know I can probably just create a separate audio loop of the pitch and put it on a separate track, but was hoping I could find something "built-in" so to speak.  Any suggestions?

    leonieDF wrote:
A simple way to create exact pitches is to use a software instrument track and either recored the pitch you want by playing and recording it on the Musical Typing keyboard (Window > Musical Typing ⇧⌘K) or simply entering the note in the Track Editor by command clicking on the note in Piano Roll view.

Well, I may have made this more difficult than necessary.  I had no problem creating a track with the pitch as you suggested.  But I thought it might be easier to create a loop rather than having to hold the key down for 3 minutes on the entire track.  I did create a new loop and extended it to the end of the track. The problem is that each time it repeats, the note repeats (it's not a continuous note, there's a bump) AND each loop sounds a little different than the previous one - like the effects are different.  It's not a big deal (it's usable) but if there's a way to fix it, enquiring minds want to know how to do that!  It's a software instrument and I used a synthesizer sound - it sounded more like a pitch pipe to me.  Don't know if that's part of the problem.
Any insights would be most appreciated!

  • How to setup a karaoke type of recording in Garage Band ?

    Hi all experts,
I am now a bit lost.
I have some karaoke dvd, meaning that the dvd plays only music (without vocal) & on the TV it has lyrics so that the singer can follow the speed of the song & remember the lyrics.
I want to play this karaoke dvd & at the same time record the vocal. So that the end result is I record the vocals together with the karaoke music (instrument music).
How do I make the Garage Band watch the dvd to guide the singer to sing the lyrics ?
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks

i'm not sure i understand. would not the singer be right there watching the TV? it would be up to them to stay in sync
But before that, how to input the music from TV into GarageBand ?
unless you have an interface to give you at least 2 channels (one for the singer and one for the DVD player's output), you'd have to record it all with the single mic you're using.
    Thanks HangTime,
I just bought this audio interface, Focusrite Saffire Pro 24:
    http://www.focusrite.com/products/saffire/saffirepro24
Not sure if this is compatible with macbook pro but the salesman told me it is so I bought it. Do you think this is a good audio interface ?
Anyway, my question is how to bring in the music from the karaoke dvd into garage band ? I bought the Saffire, I have 2 microphones to put into the saffire, then I connect the karaoke sound (red & white cable into saffire & the yellow into TV ?) Is that correct ?
If the above is correct, how do i instruct garage band to record 3 tracks simultaneously ? I created 3 new tracks but I dont seem to be able to highlight/select 3 tracks at one-go ! (3 tracks bcos 2 for microphone & one for karaoke music)
Worst still now, no sound seem to be coming in, I think I have have messed up the settings. In the Input source, I have only 3 options:
    a) Mono 1 (built-in microphone)
    b) Mono 2 (built-in microphone)
    c) Stereo 1/2 (built in microphone)
How do I select 2 microphones + 1 karaoke music player ? How does garage band knows which is which ?
    Thanks

  • Guitar recording in Garage Band, 2012 MacBook Pro 13"

I hope someone can point me in the right direction here...
I bought a brand new 2012, 13", MacBook Pro a few days ago for a number of reasons, but the main being music recording. After purchasing I realized there is no LINE-IN on the new MacBook?! I browsed a few forums to find that others are having the same issue I am.
I decided to buy a chord called a Lightsnake, that is a 1/4" guitar jack on one end, and USB on the other. However, there is a slight delay between when I pluck a string, to the audio coming through my headphones. It makes the chord unusable because I can never layer tracks perfectly.
Does anyone know of another solution that isn't going to run me a few hundred dollars that will allow me to record my guitar into Garage Band? I'm still within the 30-day return policy, and if I cannot find a reasonable solution I'm going to have to upgrade to the 15" MacBook Pro, which comes with the line-in?! (Which is a whole separate annoyance for another forum post)
Please Help!! This is my first MacBook after being a Windows user forever, and I'm already questioning my decision.
Thanks in advance for any help.

First of all, let me welcome you to the Apple world, where the grass is always greener on this side. Don't question your decision, you made the right choice.
    Regarding your question:
    Solution 1: external
You can use an external audio interface via the USB bus. There are plenty to choose from in any price range. The more expensive ones provide a lower "latency" and I think that is the problem with your cheaper Lightsnake device. It has a built-in analog-digital converter in it and that must be not that good of a quality which introduces such a high latency (the time needed to do the digital conversion) that you can hear it.
    Solution 2:
It seems that many users are not aware that the newer MacBooks have a "double duty" audio port. Unfortunately, it is labeled with a headphone icon which points to an "audio out". However, this port can be used as ad audio out (Sound Output) or audio in (Sound Input). You set that in the System Preferences > Sound window
With a 1/4" to 1/8" cable, you could connect your electric guitar directly into your Mac. Check the input level meter in the System Preferences if your guitar signal (or other audio signal) is high enough. Although the quality might not be the best (compared to a good external Audio Interface), I would bet that the analog-digital converter (ADC) are better that your Lightsnake cable, resulting in a much lower latency
    Hope that helps

  • Violin Recording in Garage Band 3 (or another program?)

I'm a recent convert from PC user to Mac lover. Would it be possible for someone to tell me a good set up for recording? I do not own my own pre-amp or microphone so I will need to plan on purchasing these. I'm not yet sure of how much money I'll be able to spend, but I could use a good nudge in the right direction so I can at least know what to look for.
In the past I had been using an Alienware 51m with a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook PCMCIA card where I was connecting the cable to the optical in port. Since I had only one line in to the card I used a Y cable to connect to the pre-amp to the sound card. Then I had the mic set up on a stand somewhat near the area I would be playing. When I had been recording I had been just using Creative Mediasource.
My main concern in finding a way to duplicate this setup on my Mac is two-fold. I need to have a setup that allows a wide range of dynamics and pitches and can accurately capture tone quality. Nearly everything I will be recording will be Classical music (pre-Bach through contemporary). Another concern I face is that I am not allowed to edit recordings in any way. So I need to have a program that focuses on recording vs. editing.
As I've been looking through the forums here I've noticed that Garage Band 3 only records 16 bit sound, is there a better alternative for me to use? When I was doing this on PC I was able to record in 24 bit because of the soundcard I was using.
Any suggestions or nudges would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
    15.4" MacBook Pro 2.16GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1GB of RAM

The best thing about grareband is the ability to do great sounding multitrack recording with the least amount of learning curve and a super simple user interface, oh and the price. For almost any recording from podcast to writing songs, recording demos and recording online or mp3 music GB does the job nicely. If your recording sound that need the best possible quality and control then you may want to look into logic or Logic Express. Especially if you plan to make a living at this.
Now you may find GB to be all you need but only you can decide this. As for getting high quality sound into your computer you will need a usb or firewire interface. So for some to help you we need to know how many tracks you will be recording at a time and a ballpark figure of what you would like to spend.

  • How can i export music from garage band to my PC?

    Hi,
Ive read quit a few threads on this matter, but none of the ideas seem to work.
I have created a track in GB and i now want to listen to it on my PC.
The ipad (1st edition) and is syncing up to the PC fine apart from this.
The process that im following is:-
    Create the song in GB
Tap ' My Songs' at the top left hand side of the page
Hit the 'send to itunes' button at the bottom left of the page
    Choose 'AAC Format'
But when I fire up ITunes (on my PC) , click 'Apps' and then scroll to the bottom, i can see the Garage Band application Icon, but there is no exported music file.  Im not sure where to look next.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, no problem, as long as Logic has a equal or higher version. So, Garageband 9 -> Logic 8 will produce problems. With Logic 9, you can import everything and open the GB file directly in Logic.
