Can a signature field created by Acrobat V7 be signed in Reader V9? How?

PDF's with signature fields created within Acrobat version 7 when opened in Reader version 9 do not have signing enabled.  Is it possible to enable Reader signing in Acrobat?

In order for Reader to be able to sign a digital signature field, the document has to have the corresponding usage right applied. Acrobat 7 is not able to apply this usage right. The first version that could is Acrobat 8 Pro.

  • Others can't open documents created in Acrobat X

I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem and what I need to do to fix it.  I have both Acrobat 9 and Acrobat X on this computer, but I've had to roll back to using Acrobat 9, because only about half the people I send .pdfs to can open the ones created in Acrobat X.  Everyone can open anything in Acrobat 9.  Most of the people have Windows computers, but some have Macs.  All have fairly up to date readers, though no one with an iPad or iPhone can open them.  I haven't set anything different on the permissions or meta settings.  And I've even delivered the files on disc to one person in case it was something in the e-mail attachments.
    Any ideas?
    Kim

Thanks, but where do I set that up?  My normal method of creation for a .pdf is to open Acrobat X and hit Create .pdf, generally from a file or Scanner.  When I print a file, I print to Adobe .pdf
    I have iMac 27 64 bit Snow Leopard (10.6), and Acrobat 9 and X.
Method of PDF creation-Open Acrobat X and Create PDF.  Generally from a file or often from a scanner, but doesn't matter.  If I create the PDF in AcrobatX, they can't read it.  If I create the PDF in Acrobat 9, they can.  If I create the PDF in X, but then re-open it and SAVE AS in 9, they can.

  • Signature field disappears in Acrobat X?

I used InDesign CS6 to create a form with two signature fields, among others. When I open the form in Acrobat X, the fields are all there. When I sign the first part of the form and then save it and then reopen the form, all the checked radio buttons are blank and the signature disappears. I was able to get the radio buttons to stay when I sent the PDF to the second signatory, but my signature was not there. They were able to sign on the second signature field and return the PDF to me. The second signature was there, but not the first one. The recipients are using Acrobat Pro for Windows (not sure which version but probably the latest) and I am using a Mac with Acrobat X and InDesign CS6.

Yes, you can create and edit forms with Standard. It won't allow you to add/edit document-level JavaScripts or add the digital signature usage right when Reader-enablinga document, however.

  • Fillable Form Fields Created With Acrobat XI Pro on Mac Won't Save on PCs?

    Hi all,
Apologies if this has been covered already, but I've done a search of the forums that have turned up nothing.
Briefly, I have created a fillable form with Acrobat XI Pro on a Mac. The original file was created with InDesign CS6.
Once the fields were created in Acrobat, the file was saved as a Reader Extended PDF.
The problem is that Mac users are able to fill in the fields and save the PDF, while Windows users are not.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

You recommended answer seem to imply that the users are using Preview. When according the OP in that thread makes no mention on Mac except he created the form on Mac everyone else is using a PC. If anyone is using preview that answer would apply. If anyone filled out the form using Preview then follow the advice in the Link
I would say your using possibly the wrong Font or the wrong version of the font. If anyone has Acrobat on a PC open the form on a PC if the form fields appear as though nothing is there, then see if you can change the font used. Just try anything other than what is listed. See if the text appears.  If it does then you have a defective font or  the Mac and PC don't use the same version.
On Mac, if you have more than one version of a Font Style, say Aerial Italic for example, issues like this invisible text will happen. Macs don't tolerate more than one version of the same Font.  You can't have two versions of say Aerial Italic or Helvetica Bold or Courier Bold Italic. PCs you can have 50 copies of the same font and it don't matter. The applications just pick one if it happens to be different then That it.
In Reader or Acrobat you might set to use local Fonts that might clear up the issue On Mac go to Preferences and Page Display:
    Check use local Fonts.

Can anyone help me get Adobe reader 11 installed??? The error message when I'm practically done says the file can't be loaded because some files are already in use - and it refers to Adobe reader!  What do I do to get past this??? Help!  I need to install adobe!
I had been having a problem after I tried to do an adobe update, so i deleted and tried to reinstall the program and it won't let me ! Any suggestions???

    Hi Jody414,
Use the Acrobat Cleaner tool ( Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs ) to remove Reader completely from the machine.
Download Reader 11 from: Adobe - Adobe Reader Distribution   and install and check.

  • When clicking "Send for Signature" how do I get it to open in EchoSign first so I can place signature fields?

It seems Acrobat Pro XI recently updated and now when I chose to send for signature via echo sign, it just ships the doc off to the recipient willy-nilly with out asking what other fields I may want input, where I may want to sign myself (upon first getting a signature from the other party).  I can of course open the Echo Sign page in my browser, then upload the document, then do all of this, but Acrobat was uploading to Echo Sign and allowing me to skip a few steps.  Are there some preferences I can adjust to change the behavior back to the procedure that was in place previously?

    The above noted problems remain.
And to add to it, there also seems a problem with having a pdf and then, in acrobat, allowing one to sign the document first via in echosign before it is delivered to someone else, in echosign, where all parties have a paid echosign account.  There doesn't seem to be a way to sign via echosign in acrobat.  Acrobat will route a document to a echosign like system, but it is NOT the full featured system that one sees with an echosign account.  It is as if the two services are completely unrelated.
One solution is to save the pdf to desktop.  Then, open the web browser and echosign.  Then drag the file from the desktop into echosign, and go from there.  The drag feature works really well, except you cannot drag a pdf file is an attachment to an email into echosign, as that is not supported.  You must first drag it to the desktop, then drag into echosign.
While this solves the problem this is NOT integrating Echosign with Adobe Acrobat Pro XI, as advertised, and it is no different from any other version of Adobe.  Thus, if you are like me and considering buying the latest version of Adobe Pro for use with Echosign, don't as it is a waste of money.  I will update when this issue is fixed.
BTW - support in Echosign says that it has no influence over how Adobe Acrobat implements Echosign and directed me to contact Acrobat.  The problem, of course, is that it did work well, then Acrobat changed it without notice, doesn't appear willing or able to fix it, explain a workaround, or otherwise acknowledge that a change was made.  This is not a cheap product and the incremental improvements for a mature product do not seem to implemented well.

  • Can fill-able forms created in Acrobat 9 work with SharePoint 2013 workflow?

    Okay so here's the deal.....
I have a few HR forms that need to be searchable and created as workflows in SharePoint 2013. Creating a custom list will not work because it is not a built to create forms. Integrating InfoPath would be ideal, but it will not work either because the company
will not pay for Enterprise licensing.
So my question is....what if I created a fill-able form in Acrobat and uploaded to SharePoint. Can I create a workflow from the document. The only question is, when the user fill out the form, where it will go? There is no submit button.
I guess the REAL question is, other than InfoPath, is there a work around to having forms on SharePoint that can be created as a workflow and made searchable. Did I mention that the forms must be fill-able.
    Hope I make sense.
    artisticweb

No, you cannot submit form values of a acrobat to SharePoint. You can use list form for basic form, else try using jquery to build custom forms as an alternative for infopath. Refer to the following codeplex solution. You could use this or build one similar
to that using the source code.

  • I am currently having trouble with an attached PDF fill-able form created in Acrobat being non savable in Reader

Hello, I was wondering if you would be able to help me out?
I am having trouble with my attached PDF fill-able form, I am creating a form that has a limit of one page so in order for more room in a certain field I have added a Hyperlink to an additional fill-able(secondary) form within the Parent document (primary fill-able form. The secondary form is inserted as an attachment into the Primary form. My problem is when I open this document up in Adobe Reader, the Primary fill-able form is savable but the attached Secondary form for which the hyperlink leads to is non-savable and is a must print only. Is there a way to make the Secondary form savable as well within the same document? or is there another way I could execute what it is I am trying to achieve?
Trying to save other as extended reader has not worked, also if I save the attachment file as an extended reader first I am unable to attach a return hyperlink back to the Parent document,
Help would be greatly appreciated please and thank you!

I can't say for certain without looking at the actual PDF but it does appear that they created one large text box over multiple lines. For a fillable form it may have been smarter to remove the lines and create a box with smaller text that supports multiple lines.
At any rate, nothing you can do about it with the free Reader (and depending on the security, maybe nothing with Acrobat either.)

  • Issues betw. PDFs created in Acrobat 7 and reviewed in Reader 10

Due to constraints with our authoring system, we are limited to using Acrobat 7 to create PDFs and prepare them for review. Recently, our reviewers have not been able to add their comments into these PDFs. We don't know if this is a disconnect between the versions of Acrobat Pro and Reader or if there are other issues that we're not aware of.
    Background:
Working OS = Win XP SP3
    Reviewer OS = ? (various)
To prepare the PDF, we select Comments > Enable for Commenting and Analysis in Adobe Reader... and then save this version of the file over the original PDF.
    Any thoughts out there?

Can you elaborate on the exact problem you are facing here? What error do the reviewers get on adding comments? If possible, can you attach one such file created from A7?

I have a pc with windows8.1 and it automatically puts download docuements to windows reader and cannot choose adobe  or delete/ get around the reader and the reader is jammed from deletion. How do |I make adobe acrobat my default reader?

Open Acrobat manually and go to Edit - Preferences - General. Click the "Select Default PDF Handler" button and then select Acrobat from the list and click on OK. The next time you open a PDF it will be opened in Acrobat automatically.

  • Why can't I save the form I created in Acrobat XI as a Reader Extended PDF?

I created and saved the document just like I have always done, with form and signature fields.  When I click file>save as>reader extended, it let's me go through and name a new verison of the file, but then says "This document cannot be saved as reader enable."  It gives no reason.  If I can't save it as reader enabled, as I've done in the past with every single form, I'd like to know WHY so that I can fix it.

I have run into this issue at times too. If you have the original document that you used to create the form saved in a folder in Windows Explorer, try closing Windows Explorer before saving the document with reader extended properties enabled. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesnt. . .

  • Can't sign signature fields in Adobe Reader XI

Using Adobe Acrobat X (not the Pro edition!) Dutch (NL) Language Edition  I created a document with two signature fields. Afterwards I tried to save as "Reader Extended". (The only option I found under "Save As" that looked similar to this command in my Dutch language version was "Uitgebreide PDF Reader" (this means "Extended PDF Reader") and then "Formulieren inschakelen en opslaan in Adobe Acrobat".  This last option means literally "Enable forms and save in Adobe Acrobat".)
When I opened the document in Adobe Reader XI (Dutch version again), the two signature fields are clearly visable, but do nothing when I click on them.
I've Googled extensively and also read the other topics on this FAQ which deal with similar problems, but to no avail... Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?
    Regards,
    KVD

After doing more testing, the Page Open event works in Reader but is very slow updating the result page that has the code and uses the Page Open event.
In Acrobat happens instantly, but in Reader takes a loooong time, sometimes seems that doesn't even update, as it takes forever. Wonder if my Reader's settings are screwed up?
Basically you have two pages, page one with a 4-choice radio button and, page two with a text field to report the value of the selected button choice.
Page two has the following code as Page Opens:
         var buttonV = this.getField("Group1").value;
         getField("Text1").value = buttonV;
