Can a single Firefox profile be shared between multiple machines?

I work in a library where we have multiple desktops that are managed by PC Reservation software and equipped with Deep-Freeze. Rather than have to go from one machine to another every time we want to update bookmarks or settings we would like to have a common profile installed on our local server that all of the machines can refer to. We are not interested in any Cloud based options and would prefer to maintain everything locally. This administration has to be local and we absolutely will not be using a Cloud based option like Sync, XMarks or Delicious. We will simply stop using Firefox in the library altogether before we would resort to one of those options.

hi,
I have not tried this, althoug with the webogic rmi and weblogic jndi
implementation I would guess this is straightforward.
Binding remote objects in WL JNDI binds the stubs only, not the object
itself. The worst case scenario here would be for you to implement proxies
and bind them in JNDI, although I would guess that binding the home object
should give you the required functionality.
Just try it, rebind the home object on a different server than the one the
bean is deployed on and test. My guess is that it will work.
(I repeat : I have not tested this my self, this is just a suggestion)

We have a situation involving multiple, but non-clustered, WebLogicservers,
say Server 1 and Server 2. A client needs to access an EJB which happensto
be located only on Server 2. We would prefer that the client not need to
know the exact location of the EJB, but use the naming service hosted by a
designated server (Server 1) to locate the EJB.
At a minimum, this would require that both servers bind their respective
EJB's into a common, shared JNDI naming tree hosted by Server 1.
Is this possible?

  • How can I transfer Firefox profile from One user to another on my pc (win XP)

At work I'm using Firefox as my default browser.
In my company the IT administrator installed new system s/w on companys main server and changed the user names.
So now firefox lost all the information (profile) I already had on my pc.
Now in "C:\Documents and Settings\" folder I have 2 users.
One with the old user name and one with the new user name
Also I can not any longer login in my pc with the old user name because the administrator has changed also the domain name.
How can I transfer the profile I had (with lot's of usefull bookmarks etc) from the old user-name to the new user-name?
    Thank you in advance!

  • Single firefox profile across all users and profiles on networks

I'm in the process of setting up Firefox as the standard browser for an entire building, and part of this is ensuring that everyone's firefox profiles are saved to personal network drives as opposed to the local machines. I can use the profile manager to do this on a user-to-user basis, but what if I want all the users of any machine to use the same firefox profile that points to a specific network drive? (This will ensure users always have their browser settings and such regardless of where they access them, allow us to switch machines out without losing anyone's browser settings, etc. The contents of this drive are specific to the user account, but always have the same path.)
As far as I can tell, profiles created in the profile manager are specific to each (domain) user, which would mean an awful lot of manual profile creation. Is there some way to ensure Firefox always uses a specific Firefox profile or path? Is there some way to have firefox check which profiles exist (in a .bat file, for example), so I can create the proper one if needed? Can I use a command line to set which profile to use by default, or can that only be done from the profile manager GUI?
Finally, and this one may warrant a separate query, but I've found that when using profiles that point to a network drive, trying to open firefox on multiple computers will fail (another instance of firefox is open, close it or restart). Can I tell Firefox to force the old instance closed, or will I have to firefox.exe -no-remote -p "differentProfile" every time?
We're on Windows 7, by the way, for references' sake.

We just deploy images, so everyone should have firefox already, but we're pretty good about keeping all data on mapped network drives instead of letting windows save things locally, so I'm trying to find the best way to integrate Firefox in that system as well.
Every user has a network domain account, which can be accessed from anywhere in the building. While mostly people use their own computers, due to the nature of the place, that is often not the case, and several people will need to sign on to the same machine on a given day.
If there are command-line ways of checking for firefox profiles, I can have them run in our logon script to ensure everyone always has access to their personal profiles, but I'm not sure the best way to go about that, yet. I suppose that's the main part of my second question--what is the cleanest way to check for and create/map/assign firefox profiles automatically?

  • I Can't Locate Firefox Profile in the Finder

I'm running Firefox 9.0.1 on my Mac OS 10.7.2 (Lion). I'm trying to locate my Firefox profile so can import the bookmarks into other web browsers I'm also trying out.
I followed the instructions in the Help section for locating my profile (http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Backing%20up%20your%20information?s=location+of+bookmarks+in+Finder&r=0&e=sph&as=s#w_locate-your-profile-folder) but, when I look in the Application Support folder, I can't find the Firefox folder.
All my bookmarks and other profile-related features are working fine within Firefox, but the folder is not located in the Finder as described in Firefox Help.
Any suggestions as to where the Profile folder could be?
Also, if I imported my Firefox bookmarks into Google Chrome, would the Firefox Profile folder be affected in any way?

In Mac OS X v10.7, the $HOME/Library folder is a hidden folder.
Open Finder and use one of these:
    * Go > Go To Folder (Shift-Command-G) and in the dialog type: ~/Library
    * Open the "Go" menu and hold down the Option key to make the Library appear
You can also use this command in a Terminal window to remove the hidden flag.
    * Mac HD > Applications > Utilities > Terminal
    * chflags nohidden ~/Library
    * http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90947.html Access hidden user library files
    * http://gothick.org.uk/2011/07/19/revealing-lions-hidden-library-folder/
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Are there alternative locations I can find my Firefox profile (in Time Machine)?

I recently erased my harddrive and re-installed Mac OS X Lion, however I forgot to save a copy of my Firefox bookmarks. I do have backups of my system on Time Machine though and was told by Apple Suport I would just need to locate the Firefox folder where bookmarks are stored to restore this file from Time Machine. I cannot seem to find my Firefox profile folder in ~/Library/Application Support, though. Is there another location I can look?

This will bring you to the location of the current Firefox profile, so you can use that to do a search.

  • How can I prevent Firefox profiles from becoming large and taking up space on the C drive for each user?

I have many users logged into a Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Server (Terminal Server) and all of them use Firefox. Each one of their profiles get very large due to their Firefox profiles.
Seems that all the space being taken up by the cache folder. (C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Profile.default\Cache)
Is there a way to enforce a policy within the program to clear the cache for each user either each time the browser is closed or when the user logs off?

when you lock the preferences with the mozilla.cfg file in the firefox program folder as it's described in the mozillazine kb article above, it should apply for all users...

  • Can things in the icloud be shared between apple id accounts?

I would like to add my iphone and my wifes iphone to icloud.  If we each have our own apple id, will we be able to share our photos
between accounts, or would it be better to have one apple id and place both of our devices under the one account?  If we do this, is it possible to keep things like contacts separate, or will they be merged on both devices.
Basically, how can I utilize the icloud to share some stuff and also keep other stuff separate or individualized.
    Thanks,
    John Post

I might be very ignorant on this but I think you can not share some things only within the same apple ID account in multiple devices.
In address book you can try to create groups, one for each user - but you both are still sharing all contacts anyway...
I also don't think you can share info from the iCloud from two different apple ID's.

  • P13/Profile data sharing between two WLP instance

We are using WLP 10.3 with oracle as our portal database, we have lot of users in QA and their user profile data stored in one of our WLP-1 instance, now there is need of another WLP instance that we would like to use.
    Here is what we did
    1. We cloned the database information related to WLP-1 to another database intended for WLP-2
    1. We created another WLP domain(WLP-2), and modified the all the data source to point to the 2nd database schema assuming that all the profile data and users will be availble to WLP-2.
Now we are deploying our application to WLP-2 domain, here is what we are getting while deploying, during deployment we do set entitlement information from a XML file(Imported/downloaded from our primary development machine where we do all the build/entitlements setting), not sure if there any other way to clone a WLP domain/ user profile.
Any help on this is much appreciated.

No I think it is supported, here is my commit.log which says we can re-use a existing WLP RDBMS with a new WLP domain. I just don't know how to reset, We are not sharing the same db here, we have a copy of original portal schema/db

  • Sharing between multiple iTunes accounts

Need some help with the 6 Apple devices we now have in our house all sharing information, some of which we don't want to be shared.  Here is what we have:
    iMac
    iPod 4
    iPod 4S
    iPad 1
    iPod Touch 4th Gen (2)
All of these devices share the same iTunes account (mine), but the two phones have different phone numbers (mine and my wife's), and I don't want to get her texts and e-mails and don't want her getting mine.  Can I set up a separate iTunes account for her but still have her have access to all of the apps currently on my iTunes account without her having access to my texts and e-mail accounts?  Or would I need to manually download and then upload each app to her phone if we set up a new account?  I assume music, photos, etc. will not be an issue because I can easily do that manually through the iTunes interface.  It is the external communication functions I'm most concerned about solving.
I also want to set up a third iTunes account for the family, which would mainly just be for the two iPod Touch devices that my kids use.
    Thoughts, recommendations, guidance greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

It's a misunderstanding that setting the 'iTunes Music folder location' tells iTunes to look at that location.
The iTunes Music folder location is the location where your next imported CD is stored. The song locations however are stored inside the 'iTunes Library' file which is in ./Users/YourUsername/Music/iTunes.
Moving the music folder to another location without 'telling' iTunes normally will lead to loss of links. You will see exclamation marks before the song name, telling that iTunes can't find the files.
Recent versions of iTunes can track a moved folder, when it's moved on the same disk.
The other users will not see this music. You have to copy the 'iTunes Library' file and put it in the iTunes folder of the other user(s).
    --edit
Instead of copying the 'iTunes Library' file, you can add the entire music folder to each users library.
This will enable every user to apply their own rating (which is not stored in the song file, but in the 'iTunes Library' file).
    --end of edit
They will then have full access to the library, which means, every user can add and delete music from the shared library.
The methods of sharing music are described here:
iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer
    Hope this helps.

  • Queue data sharing between multiple LabVIEW Executables

I have 2 LabVIEW Executables(Exe) where one Exe produces data and other one consumes the same. Is there anyway I can use a single queue reference for the same ? First Exe obtains the queue reference number and stores the reference number in V.I.G where as the second Exe read this reference number from this V.I.G. The error from the second VI dequeue was invalid queue reference.
Is there anyway I can share the same data between different exes with the functionality of a queue ?.
    Solved!

Each exe is mapped into its own memory space so refs to resource in one context will not work in another but...
If you exposed an Action Engine in one instance to be used via VI server Invoke Node from the other, the AE (Note: it will be running in the server context) could queue the data in behalf of the client.
    Plese note:
If the server porcess goes idle all of its resource will be invalidated (including the queue) but a ref to the AE will still be valid. In this case the enqueue op will fail so you have to code to account for this situation. (been there done that )
This smae approach will work in any network architecture where VI serve can be used. I used this approach about 10 years ago (minus the queue) to allow control of a factory floor from a laptop with a internet connection.

Do you think the same must work with following scenario:
    1. LabVIEW Exe calling a data acquisitio thread dynamically(VI Server) and enqueue the data into a Queue with reference in VIG.
    2. Same Exe calling a TestStand Engine and one sequence inside that calling the same queue to dequeue the data.
    3. Remember that the LabVIEW adapter I use with TestStand is LabVIEW Run-Time Engine(Not development system)

  • How can I let firefox save usernames/passwords for multiple subdomains that use the same username but different passwords?

on a particular website that has sub domains I have multiple accounts with the same name but different password. Firefox seems only able to save one of them, because they are on the same site.

"Things"?  What things?  Apps for keeping track of when to change cat litter?  30 different versions of "twinkle, twinkle little star" played by everything from punk rockers to Gregorian chant?  Videos on the best way to make Christmas cake?

  • Can an iPhoto library be used/shared on multiple macs?

I have a MacBook Pro and a MacMini and I want both to have the same iPhoto library so I do not have to identify faces and geo-tag the same pictures again.  Is this possible?

There is a way.  If the two Macs are on a wired LAN the library can be placed on an external HD connected to one of the Mac so both can access the same library, but not a the same time.  The EHD should be formatted as follows:
It is not advisable to access the library wirelessly as dropouts do occur and if one does while editing a photo or writhing to the library's database file the library can be damaged.  The likelihood of that is high.

  • Can we share media on one computer between multiple apple ids?

I recently purchased an imac for our family. I'm new to the apple world and have many questions. The most important deals with itunes though. My wife and children have had ipods for some time, adding media to them using a windows pc (under one apple id). I'm wondering, first how do i get the songs from my wife's ipod/pc onto our new computer (she has an ipod touch)? And secondly, can each of us have our own seperate apple ids but share songs and other media purchased under each other's accounts? We need seperate id's to use things like "chat" on our ipods.

Yes. You need to sign in with the correct Apple ID.
You can check it out on computer iTunes, select the song, right click and choose "Get Info"
You can see Purchased by and Apple ID used to obtain them.
If it's only a few, your choice is to delete them from computer and buy them again with the correct Apple ID
