Can applications run or install in Windows PE?

I'm trying to create a Windows 8.1 image for a tablet.  To make the image work for multiple computer models, I tried adding a WMIC query to filter the drivers by model.   However, it fails and crashes to the red screen when I try to use it.  It
appears that WMI queries do not work on this system unless you install the "WMI Provider" application.  This is an EXE installer.  I tried importing the driver files in the application folders, but it still failed to work.
The deployment guide for the tablet says:
"If BIOS access via WMI is needed when in a WinPE environment, the HP ElitePad 1000 WMI Provider needs to be installed or
added to the boot image prior to any WMI access. See the HP ElitePad 1000 WMI Provider documentation for details on
setup and usage."
However the "documentation" is not helpful.  It basically is only a readme text file that says click on the setup file and follow the prompts.
Can exe based applications be installed in a WinPE 5.0 environment?
Is there another way to do this so I don't have to have a separate task sequence for each model of computer using this Windows 8.1 image?

I need to correct a few assumptions listed above.
1. Drivers that are installed *only* via a *.exe wrapper program won't work with the built-in MDT driver framework. If they are non-critical drivers, you can install them during the State Restore phase of MDT. If they *Are* boot critical, you will need to
extract them out.

2. the WMI provider *IS* available for MDT LitetouchPE_???.wim images, so I don't understand your comment above that WMI is not. Unless you are talking about a specific WMI provider add-on for the ElitePad 1000, which I doubt.
3.  Additionally, you can't install drivers for the full OS from Within the WinPE phase, that would install the drivers into WinPE, not the full OS.
4. Listen to Johan.

Whatever you read was incorrect. You can upgrade directly to Mavericks. It is in the App Store and is free.
Snow Leopard predates the operating system you already have. That's the reason it will not install on your MacBook Air. You spent $20 needlessly for it, but it's yours to resell if you wish.

  • Can we run java programms on Windows XP?

    Hi experts..
I installed JDK on Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition..but i am unable to run java programmes.
can i run java programmes on Windows XP?? if so how??
i will be very thankful..if any one solve this problem..

Yes, you can. There's a bunch of things you need to do (mostly setting the path environment variable). You should look at the documentation that came with the JDK, and check out the many forum responses to problems in setting up the JDK on Win 2K and Win XP.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
iPod Utility for Windows hasn't been updated for a long time, so it's probably not supported in Windows 8. Have you tried to run it in compatibility mode?

  • Re: Portege M800 - can't get bluetooth installed in Windows 7

Hi, I have a portege M800 PPM81C-07602D. It came with windows vista but I have reinstalled it to windows 7, and now I can't get the bluetooth drivers to install. I've tried the old vista drivers as well as the newer windows 7 drivers, but whenever I run the install I get the message "Please plug in the bluetooth device and click ok button."....If I click ok it just pops up again. I don't know why it wouldn't be finding the internal bluetooth....I dont think there's a physical on/off switch for the BT anywhere, and I looked to see if it had been disabled in the bios but there was nothing in there about it...so...I'm out of ideas.
Anyone have any thoughts I can try?
    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Toshiba Bluetooth stack can be installed if the BT module is enabled properly so use FN+F8 key combination to enable BT module.
After doing this BT should be recognized and installed properly (you will se BT entries in device manager).

  • Can't run programs installed under Administrator

Our user DLU's run at the User level, so we install any extra software that isn't on our image using the local Administrator account. Sometimes users are prompted to enter the Administrator password just to run such software, but it seems to depend on the program.
Virtual Apps are not always possible so I'm trying to understand the mechanics of why Users can run something installed under Administrator.

If you want them to be able to install software, make them part of the
    administrators or power users group.
Of course, what's gonna happen to them WHEN they install improper software
(not IF, it is a WHEN).
What software are you trying to install?
You should probably look up the app @ the website www.appdeploy.com
While not specific to ZCM, it has an incredible wealth of info on specific
applications and how to deploy/package them

Most users are trying to install simple .exe files for browser addons
and they are nearly attacking me for the rights to do this. There has
got to be an easier way than trying to make a bundle each time some
    small install issue comes up.
I just want my users to be able to install whatever they want. If they
blow up their machine we can reimage it.

  • Can't run easylink advisor with windows 7

Having moved to a windows 7 PC from XP, hardwired router connection to my WRT54G v. 2 works no problem.  Using a 2nd wireless PC, I discover my once secure network is now unsecured-- no clue why.  Trying to install easylink advisor  on new W7 PC from CD to investigate, CD refuses claiming incompatibe OS.   Can't find windows 7-compatible easylink advisor (or replacement) on linksys site.  How do I run easylink advisor on windows 7?  I understand there is a direct web interface to the innards of the WRT54G, I'm looking for something that doesn't require me to study router configuration parameters-- that's what easylink is for.

I had the same problem after upgrading to Win 7 Ultimate from a fresh rebuild of Vista Premium.  The Easllink Advisor wouldn't install from the CD that came with the product and I couldn't find any updates for it on this site.  I have the WRT54G2 Ver 1 router.  After some internet searching I found the following link for LELA    It installed just fine  and it's working so far. No previous version of Easylink required. https://update.linksys.com/autoupdate/   BTW, I found the update link on this site:  http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/lanwan/lanwan-features/30446-linksys-naughty-lela

  • Can Oracle 8.1 install at window XP?

    dear all,
i would like to know if the Oracle 8.1 for NT/2000 can be installed for window XP or not?
    thanks
    moises

Yes! You can install Oracle 8.1 on WindowsXP. Then
only problem I've found is that the OracleStart
service give you an error during start up. This is
not a problem, Oracle instance start up corectly even
    if there is this error.
I still get the same behaviour running Oracle9i (9.2.0.1.0) on XP. But only when I attempt to start after not having stopped the db properly before (e.g. by simply restarting or shutting down the pc without caring about the Oracle services running in the background).

  • Can't run Word 2013 in Windows 8

I cannot run word 2013 from windows 8. I can run other office 2013 apps without problem. It gives me the notice: Microsoft Word has stopped working...

    Hi,
Can you start Word in safe mode? Press Windows key + R, type Winword.exe /safe
in the Run dialog and press Enter.
If Word open properly, the problem may be with problematic add-ins. Please go to
    File > Options >
Add-Ins and disable suspicious add-ins to resolve the problem.
If Word doesn't start in safe mode, please refer to the KB article below to troubleshoot the issue:
