Can CVI 8 display multi-byte foreign languages on the user interface, Such as Chinese?
Hello,
We use Lab/Windows 8.01 and Windows 2000 and we want to give out Chinese textstrings with the "SetCtrlVal" function. How is this possible? I've read a comment that it is *not* possible in CVI 6, but, hey, we have 8.01 now... ;-)
Best regards,
Robin de Krijger
Okay, that's the easy one! (of course)
First select: /Start/Control Panel/Regional and Language Options
Then (in the window that appeared): tab Languages, turn ON "Install files for East Asian languages"
Then (in the same window): tab Advanced, set "Language for non-Unicode programs" to "Chinese (PRC)" (or whatever language you want to display)
Reboot (now not sure though if this is really possible)
Now, in CVI, set to control font to one of those weird chinese named fonts that you have now and that you cannot read yourself...
(Use the @-fonts if the orientation from your text is top to bottom (instead of left to right))
Then, for example, use on a text label control:
SetCntrVal(panelHandle,panelControlID,"\xBA\xC9");
The hex code 0xBAC9 is a GBK code mapping (simplified chinese).
If you have the text in unicode (which you probably have), you must google the internet for the unicode -> GBK code mapping. I succeeded in this, so you will certainly succeed in this!
Well, that's about it... Good luck!

Catalog id is not getting displayed properly in Foreign Language (French)
Hi All,
I have created a web service id for the external catalog and I have assigned the same to one of the user. The name of the web service id is getting displayed properly in the shopping cart creation screen when the language is English. But when we are changing the user language to Foreign language (French), the name is not getting displayed properly.
Could you please advise me if there any settings needs to be done in the parameters of the specific web service id. Thanks in advance for your help.Hi,
Go to External Web Services and the select the web service ID. Then click on GOTO >Translation and select the language and enter the description of the web service as to be disaplyed while users log in French against the language.
Thanks,

Can we get a output in different languages for the same configuration
Hi All,
Can we get a output in different languages for the same configuration done in NACE. or it is language specific.
They have symbols which have values both in german and english. But when we run the transaction we are getting the output only in german language.We want the out put in english
language.
Thanks in Advance.
RajeshA Smartform can be maintained in many languages other than the language that it is created. Translations for the texts have to be maintained for this purpose.
To maintain the translations:
Go to transaction SE63 in R/3.
Go to menu Translation->R/3 Enterprise->Other Long Texts
Select the object type in the pop up. Smartform(SSF) object type is found under Forms and Styles(FS).
Enter the name of the Smart form and choose the source and target language. This would open a screen with the Smartform code in Source language on the top and an editor with the same code in the bottom.
Find the text for which you need to maintain the translation and insert the translation in that place. As usual after required texts are maintained Save and Activate.
To see the translated Smartform create an output type and assign the smartform and the driver program to this output type. In the transaction that sends output to this smartform, select the output type and select the language in which the smartform has to be displayed (translations have to be maintained in this lanuage).This will give the smartform in the required language.

How can I get the language of the user logged on using only DI API?
Hello,
how can I get the language of the user logged on using only DI API,
without invoking the UI?
Can I read the value from some table using sql?
I could write to file the first user's connection to the language code in SAP and then use it from external program, but I do not like this solution ...
I know only this possibility:
'_SboCy ==> SAPbobsCOM.Company
'_SboCys ==> SAPbobsCOM.CompanyService
'_SboApp ==> SAPbouiCOM.Application
CodLng Dim As String = ""
Dim lng As SAPbobsCOM.UserLanguages _SboCy.GetBusinessObject = (BoObjectTypes.oUserLanguages)
If lng.GetByKey (_SboApp.Language) Then
codLng = lng.LanguageShortName
'Etc. ..
End If
lng = Nothing
ThanksHi Enrico,
The language settings are held on the user's Windows profile and not in the database. In SBO 2007A onwards there is an XML file that is created by the SBO client (previous versions stored the information in the registry). The file is called b1-current-user.xml and you'll find it in the temporary application data under the user's profile (by default this will be C:\Documents and Settings\<profile>\Local Settings\Application Data\SAP\SAP Business One for Windows XP). This XML file contains a node that looks like the following:
<leaf kind="single" name="Language" type="String">
<value>8</value>
</leaf>
where the value is the language id that should correspond to the same setting in the DI API. If your application will always run on a workstation where the SBO client is installed then you could read this XML file. Of course, this file may not exist for a particular Windows user if they have never opened the SBO client so you'd need to have a default setting.
If you application will be installed on a workstation which doesn't have an SBO client installed on it then there is no way to tell what default language to use and you'll need to build this logic in to your own application (eg have a screen where the user can choose their preferred langauge and then store this as a config file in a similar way to how the SBO client works).

How to display RATE names in the language of the user ?
Is there a way to display the Rate names in the language of the user ?
Or maybe have some rates displayed only in a specific language ?
I have created a FRENCH theme.
Eveyuthing works fine except that the rates are not translated.
Any idea how to have the rates in a different language ?
ThanksI am assuming you are talking about shipping rates, you would need to just make a rate for each language you want displayed (in 5.9 this will show them all i know but currently is the only way) In 2007 SP1 version (tenative name) we have added support to limit shipping rates to show only for specified countries.

Web Site Display Language - Allowing the user to chose the language
I have created a web site that allows the user to display the page in the language of the users choice.
Windows Internet Explorer and FireFox both allow the user to select a language option, and the web page will display the text in that language.
Safari on the Mac does not allow the display to be changed.
I have used the System Preferences - International option to select the language that I would like to use. The operating system menus and other options display as expected.
Safari does not.I have created a web site that allows the user to display the page in the language of the users choice.
What is the website? -
How can I improve the response time of the user interface?
I'm after some tips on how to improve the response time to mouse clicks on a VI front panel.
I have data acquistion application which used to run fine, but after spending a couple of weeks making a whole bunch of changes to it I find that the user interface has become a bit sluggish.
My main GUI VI has a while loop running 16 times a second, updating some waveform charts and polling about a dozen buttons on the front panel.
There is sometimes a delay (variable, but up to 2 seconds sometimes) from when I click on a button to when it becomes depressed. I have wired the iteration terminal of the while loop to an indicator on the front panel and can see that the while loop is ticking over during the delayed response to the mouse click, so I know that the problem is not that the whole program is running slow, just the response to mouse clicks.
Also, just for debugging purposes, I have indicators of the iterations of all the main while loops in my program on the front panel, so I can see that there are no loops running abnormally fast either.
One thing I've tried is to turn off multi-threading, and this does seem to work - the response to mouse clicks is much faster. However, it has the side effect of making the main GUI while loop run less evenly. I was trying to get a fairly smooth waveform scrolling across the screen, and when multi-threading is off it gets a bit jerky.
Any other suggestion welcome..
(I am using LabVIEW 7.1, Windows 2000).
Regards,
Mark.Hi Altenbach,
Thanks for your reply. In answer to your questions:
I am doing both DAQ board and serial data acquisition. I am using NIDAQ traditional for the DAQ board, and VISA for the serial. I have other similar versions of this program that do only DAQ board, or only serial, and these work fine. It was only when I combined them both into the same program that I ran into problems.
The multiple while loops are actually in separate VIs. I have one VI that acquires data from the DAQ card, another VI that acquires data from the serial port, another VI that processes the data and saves to file, and another VI, the GUI VI, that displays the data in graphs and charts. The data is transferred betwen the VIs via LV2 globals.
The GUI VI is a bit more complicated than I first mentioned. It has tab control, with 4 waveform charts on one page, 4 waveform graphs on another page, and 3 waveform graphs on another page. The charts have a history length of 2560, and 16 data points are added 16 times a second. The wavefom graphs are only updated once per minute.
I don't use the value property at all, but I do use lots of property nodes for changing the properties of the graphs and charts e.g. changing plot colours, Y scale range etc. There is only one local variable (for the Tab control). All the graphs and charts have data wired directly to their terminals.
I haven't done any profiling yet.
I am building arrays in uninitialised shift registers, but this is all well under control. As the experiement goes on, more data is collected and stored, and so the memory usage does gradually increase, but only to the extent that I would expect.
The CPU usage is 100%, but I thought this was always the case when using NIDAQ with DAQ cards. Or am I wrong about this? (As a side note, I am using NIDAQ traditional, but would NIDAQmx be better?)
Execution priority of the GUI vi (and all the other VIs for that matter) is set to normal.
The program is a bit large to post here, and I'm not sure if my company would be happy for me to publicise it anyway, so I suspect that this is turning into one of those questions that are going to be impossible to answer.
Just as a more general question, why would turning off multi-threading improve the user interface response?
Thanks,
Mark. -
I do not see the user interface for the Logic Pro software instruments. I can hear them play through my midi keyboard but cannot see them to adjust the parameters. Please advise.
Couple of things - you can open the interface for any instrument or plug-in by double-clicking its insert slot on the channel strip. You can configure Logic to automatically open the interface for a plug-in when you first instantiate it in the preferences. Go to Logic Pro > Preferences > Display > Mixer, and check the box for "Open plug-in window on insertion".

My new nano keeps going into sleep mode every copy of minutes while music is playing. I can't figure out how to stop this. The user guide isn't too helpful. Any ideas?
This is usually a sign that your iPod's headphones are not plugged in all the way. Make sure that you cannot see any of the silver still showing from the headphone's plug. You should hear a sort of popping/clicking noise when inserting the headphones letting you know that they have been fully seated.

How can I give the "user interface thread" higher priority?
We do alot of activex calls to front panels. We need to increase/decrease the priority of the user interface thread to resolve our thread problem. Anyone know how to do this?
ChuckHello,
As P.M. was saying, you can adjust the thread priorities
through the VI Properties dialogue.
Another place to modify the multithreading system in LabVIEW is a VI
located at: [LabVIEW Directory]\vi.lib\Utility\sysinfo.llb\threadconfig.vi. However I do not think this will remedy any
problems you are having.
From a Multithreading in LabVIEW tutorial (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/d2e196c7416f373a862568690074c759)
Priorities in the User Interface and
Single-Threaded Applications
Within the User Interface execution
system, priority levels are handled in the same way for single-threaded and
multithreaded applications.
In single-threaded applications and
in the User Interface execution system of multithreaded applications, the
execution system queue has multiple entry points. The execution system places
higher priority VIs on the queue in front of lower priority VIs.
If a high-priority task is running and the queue contains only lower priority
tasks, the high-priority VI continues to run. For example, if the execution
queue contains two VIs of each priority level, the time-critical VIs share execution time exclusively until both finish.
Then, the high priority VIs share execution
time exclusively until both finish, and so on. However, if the higher priority
VIs call a function that waits, the execution system removes higher priority
VIs from the queue until the wait or I/O completes, assigning other tasks
(possibly with lower priority) to run. When the wait or I/O completes, the
execution system reinserts the pending task on the queue in front of lower
priority tasks. Refer to the Synchronous/Blocking Nodes section for a list of
asynchronous functions that wait.
Also, if a high priority VI calls a lower priority subVI,
that subVI is raised to the same priority level as the caller for the duration
of that call. Consequently, you do not need to modify the priority levels of
the subVIs that a VI calls to raise the priority level of the subVI.
Thus changing the priority of your VI will change the
priority of UI calls for that particular VI.
Again, I caution you because I suspect that if you are having problems
with your application not running correctly, I do not believe that manipulating
the thread priorities will resolve these issues.
Hope this helps,
Travis M

Why can't Preview search in a foreign language?
I have a long .pdf document in Russian but find, as in the past, that words placed in Preview's search bar always get no hits.
If Preview can display a text in a foreign language, why can't it search for words in that language?Try Adobe Reader instead of Preview.
The basic problem is that the pdf format is not reliable for searching, and sometimes even copy/pasting non-Latin text. Depending on how it is produced, the internal representation of the text can easily become useless garbage. -
Using a foreign language with the Java I/O, and saving to flat file.
I want to use a foreign language in my program, in particular, russian. I want to be able to input the russian text into a GUI and then save the data in a flat file as well as retrieve it again. I am able to save some type of data to the flat file but it is unreadable. Question marks or some other unreadable characters appear instead.
I am also not able to write in a foreign font. Can someone give me some advice for how to input a foreign language into with a GUI, save the information in a flat file, and retrieve it again.If you have got a String in Java somehow regardless of interior encoding mode, you can write it in a text file with an encoding you would like (e.g., UTF8).
//import java.io.*;
String str = "ABCEDFG";
try{
BufferedWriter bw = new BufferedWriter(new OutputStreamWriter(new FileOutputStream("out.txt"),"UTF8"));
bw.write(str);
bw.close();
}catch(IOException ioe){
//process

Please help, My Mac will not open when I rtry to download something from the internet, a box with foreign language appears in the textbox?
I have seen this a couple of times over the last few days here in the forum; the Reader 11.0.7 plugin for Mac displays the message in Japanese. Here is the English translation.
Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement then quit and relaunch the browser.
Do it, and the message will disappear. -
How can I add more options of alternate languages to the "Spec Name" translations?
The options should appear on a GSM specification when I click on the little globe besides Spec Name, ShortName, Description, and other fields. But I cannot find where to configure that list of languages so that I can add the ones I need for proactive translations.
You can definitely add more languages.
1. Check out the configuration guide: Multi-Language Support for Proactive Translations section. It will tell you how to activate them in the database.
2. Once activated, you will need to assign them to the users that can add translations. You do this in UGM on the user profile.
3. Once languages have been added to the user, the user will see the language options in the proactive language popup.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Just as a reference, in addition to our National Language Support packs we support the following languages for proactive translations:

Is there a way you can select a display option for Safari pages on the OS5?
The tabbed version of Safari for the ipad2 is nice but the old one is better. Is there a way we can select a display option that lets a user toggle between the two?
No, Safari on the iPad in iOS 5 uses tabbed browsing. You can try leaving feedback for Apple : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
