Can dock items in Guest Account be changed "permanently"?

Is there a way for an administrator to add/delete items to/from the dock in the Guest Account and have those changes become the default? So far everything I change goes disappears with each logout of the Guest Account. I know that this is supposed to happen with the Guest. Thanks!

Okay, I used the information above and was able to make permanent changes to the dock on the user account. I learned the following lesson:
In order to do that you must be logged in as the Guest. The WM software, at least with my limited knowledge of how these things work, does not make permanent changes to the Guest account "remotely" via the administrator account. So it worked for me, and thanks for all the information.
I have another question though: My goal is to allow a Guest to go on the Internet. So I am making Safari available to Guest. I would like to make FireFox available also. But here is the problem:
Each time the two browsers start from scratch because all the cutomized files get deleted when the Guest logs out. This is specially more annoying with Firefox since its barebone lunch requires more steps before it actually begins working.
I want Safari or Firefox to open up in a Google page, and ready to go. What do I need to do to get the settings file get saved?
Thanks in advance.

  • How can I remove the Guest account from the login screen?

I'm very new to the Mac world so pardon this noob question.  But how can I control what user accounts are visible on the login screen on OS X?  I've already went into the System Preference, User Accounts and set the Guest account to disabled.  However this account is still on the logon screen when I reboot the Mac!  How can I remove this account and/or make sure that my user account is the only one visible?

I'm not sure why this worked, but I found this in another post and it worked for me.
Even when the Guest Account / Access is disabled, the login option / and lock screen, still have a guest login.
This is because in Preferences/ Security & Privacy/General the bottom item is turned on.
Turn on: Disable restarting to Safari when screen is locked

  • Does anyone can create a random guest account more than 10 ?

    Hi, Experts
I'm currently using ISE 1.1.1 to demonstration with my customer. In the sponsor page, does anyone can create the random guest to be more than 10 accounts at a time ?
I have try to create with 20 accounts then get the error as below,
Internal error encountered.  Please contact administrator or help desk.
However the random accounts are created only 10 accounts.
Since the system said that it can create from 1 up to 10,000 accounts.
    Thanks,
    Pongsatorn Maneesud

    Hi,
I just tested this and I was able to generate 20 accounts successfully. Do you have patch 1 installed on your ISE node? Also what group is your sponsor account mapped to? I used an account that is mapped to the SponsorAllAccount group.

  • Can you block the guest account from downloading files?

I need to setup the guest account so that it is able to use the internet, but is unable to download any type of file. i.e. pirated software, music, books, movies, etc. I would also like to disable eternal drives from mounting. My wife and I are looking at doing a coffee shop in a South East Asian country, and we heard that the local cops like to send somebody in and download illegal content and then come and confiscate your computer. So I want to be able to completely block all types of file downloads, and disable the use of usb drives etc.. Thanks

I don't believe there is any way to prevent file downloading if you allow internet access at all. as Király says, whatever they download and install will be limited to the guest account and will go poof on the logout.
however you can disable CD/DVD and external drives access. some of it can be done by enabling parental controls on the guest account. for more options you can install server admin tools
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/ServerAdmin_Tools_105
and use workgroup manager to set further restrictions on the guest account.
P.S. workgroup manager can also forbid guest to mount disk images which will effectively make it impossible to install any programs at all even in the guest account.

  • Setting dock apps in guest account

I created a guest account with the specific apps that I wanted to make available to a "guest user".  When I restarted the mac and clicked on Guest,  the dock had reverted back to factory default.   Is this a glitch or is there a specific method of saving those settings in order to maintain them?

Parental Controls is the way you want to start for the Guest account.

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.0 can not create the guest account on WLC 5508

The PI can manage the WLC which means the connection between them is ok, but I am not able to create the guest account on it. The WLC has guest SSID with web auth configured correctly..
    Any idea why?
    Thanks!

    raymond,
that's good to know that it required :
    1) not only a RW community string
    2) but also as well ssh credentials
i too would have thought option 1) would be all that was required but it doesn't appear that way w/ your response.
the only way i'll go to add devices in is by doing both SNMP RW and ssh at the same time.
    now we know
    thanks for pointing this out

  • Can't sign into guest account

I think I may have altered the 'guest account' and I now cannot sign into it on the login screen.
I am the admin for the mac, but my daughters' iTunes library is on the 'Guest Account', so I need to access it.
On the login screen, everytime I click on it, it shakes.
There is no password for this account.
    Please help.

Try what ClassicII said and when I use my Guest Account most of the files that were changed are reseted when as soon as I reboot. If ClassicII's idea doesn't work than you may want to call Apple Support.
Good Luck; Hope this Helps -

  • Can't remove wcs guest account if account has expired on wlc

Hi. I am running wcs 4.1.91.0. I'm using Lobby Ambassoador functionality. I've found that if you create a guest acount using wcs with a limited lifetime, then after that lifetime period, you cannot delete the guest account from wcs as the account has already expired on the wlc. You get no error message in wcs -it just shows a JavaVoid error message at the bottom of the browser. I'm assuming wcs is trying to delete the account from the wlc but cant because the account is no longer on the wlc. Has this been resolved in a later version of wcs yet??

Here is the URL Cisco Guest Access Using the Cisco Wireless LAN Controller follow the configuration guide it will help you manage the guest account in WLC :

  • Guest account with changing password

    Hey all,
So I would like to allow friends or others to be able to access files from IIS when I give them access. Im thinking the best way would be a system that would change the password every 6 hours or so and the current password would be synced to my phone. My
idea would be something like google's two stage auth using TOTP.
If anyone has any ideas of something like this already out there or something I can code let me know. I know I can change the password and have it expire but that's work on my end to do. I would like to just give a link to a friend and the current password
and it would do its thing.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
If your friends need to access your files from your server constantly, my opinion is creating several accounts for each of them, and you just need to create accounts once, and assign permissions once.
    Best Regards,

  • I can't access Guest Account

I can't get into Guest account, I can only get to a blank grayish screen.
Once there I have to power down and restart to get back to main user.
    I tried...
disabling and reenabling the Guest account,
I ran Disk Utility / Repair Permissions,
I ran Repair Permissions from the recovery partition,
I tried reinstalling Lion (a torturous 2 hour download...a lot longer than the original download and installation),
I created a test (standard) account. It took a few minutes to load, but once it did, I was able to get in and out of the account, but not into Guest,
    File Vault is not activated
    ...all to no avail.
Never had any problems with Snow Leopard
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    ...and it now works.

  • Can anyone tell me why I can't activate my iMessage account on my Macbook?

Recently updated my late 2009 white Macbook to OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and purchased an iPhone 5. I have been trying to activate iMessage on my Macbook but every time I enter my Apple ID information, I receive a message that says "Could not sign in to iMessage. The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later."
I have been trying to activate this account for a few weeks now and I get the same reply every time. Can anyone help me out?
Update: I just updated to OSX 10.8.3 and still no luck.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Can I convert an standar account into an admin one since Terminal?

    Hi, Everybody!
Trying to overcome some bugs on my MacBook, I decided to erase some folders from system and install Mac OS X from its original DVD. Bad idea. Now I only have one account, which may be the Admin one, but appears as a Standar one. I'm blocked now, cause I cannot change it, create a new admin account, activate the Root User, neither do a Software Uptade. Note I'm running now  Mac OS X (10.6.3).
I hope I can avoid formatting my hard disk and all that it implies. I'm wondering if I can create a new admin account or change the actual one since Terminal, because I can run it starting up my machine from the Mac OS DVD.
Thanks for your attention and help.

    Hey Cauac,
Thanks for the question. Let’s see if resetting the root password resolves your issue:
Mac OS X 10.5: Administrator user changes to standard
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1278
    Resolution
    1. Start from your Mac OS X 10.5 Install DVD. (You do not need to install Leopard again.)
    2. From the Utilities menu, choose Reset Password (do not choose Firmware Password Utility).
    3. Follow the onscreen instructions to reset the root password (the root account is not the same as your account). Specifically: Select the name of the drive that Mac OS X is installed on, select the user named "System Administrator (root)" from the pop-up menu, type the password in the first field, re-enter the password in the second field, then click the Save button.
    4. Restart from your Mac OS X Leopard volume.
    5. When the login window appears, select "Other..." and log in as the root user using the password that was created above.  Note: If Mac OS X automatically logs in, choose Log Out (name) from the Apple menu to get to the login window.
    6. Go to Accounts preferences and check (enable) "Allow user to administer this computer" for the affected user.
    7. From the Apple menu, choose Log Out root....
    8. Log in as the user account that had this issue. (Your account should now have administrator access.)
    9. Use Directory Utility to disable the root user via Directory Utility's Edit menu. You may need to click the lock icon first).
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • FileVault 2 guest account is greyed out

Yesterday I performed a clean install of OS X Lion for my MBP (early 2011) had some kernel panics recently and I was told that it could be a software related problem. Anyway I installed all of the updates, switched on File Vault, Back to my Mac and everything's looking good except for I can't access the guest account. When booting there's no prompt for signing into the guest account and in system preferences the guest is greyed out.
Before my clean install I had File Vault enabled as well and there was a guest account I could log in to. I'm not sure what's wrong but I suspect a problem with Software Update. I already had to install several updates manually but am not sure if there's still something missing.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • No Guest Account option in Accounts tab of Sys Prefs

I seemed to have lost (???) the GUEST option for accounts that can be set up in the ACCOUNTS area of System Preferences. Maybe I inadverently deleted the official "Shared" folder or something... don't know but how do I get that type of account option back again in 10.4.11? This is a special template for Guest Accounts Apple provides in 10.4.11 as differs from me as sys admin simply setting up a new account called Guest with Standard privileges. In other words, there is no template of guest privileges to attach to a new user account.
In 10.5.2, for example, there is a standard "guest" account which automatically is deleted after the user logged in as Guest logs out.
Perhaps in 10.4.11 this didn't exist? I'm sure there was some standard Guest account though when I first installed the OS.
