Can hear audio but not see video in iMovie

Question

have a project in iMovie and when I click on the space bar I can hear the audio, but the video remains black even though the thumbnails show images.  Am I missing a setting somewhere?

You cant directly add the video object to the stage
to add it on the stage add UIComponent to stage and add the video object to it
