Can I call a VB object in a stored procedure?
I need a PL/SQL stored procedure to call a Visual Basic object. Can it do that? If so, how? Someone mentioned using a cartridge, but I can't find information that supports that.
Thanks for any help!
Tami
Yes you can call a C program from inside a trigger. You need to create a Oracle LIBRARY for you C program. This is documented here: http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96540/statements_62a.htm#SQLRF01301
Note: This is the 9i docs but the same functionality existed in Oracle8.

How can I call a COM object from a PL/SQL CODE
Hi everyone,
Does anyone know how to call a COM object from a stored procedure in oracle.
a sample of code
please help,
HilaireAre you familiar with external procedures? Basically, you can expose functions exported by a shared library (i.e. a DLL on Windows) to the Oracle database. My assumption is that you'd probably need to write a wrapper DLL around the COM object, since I believe you can only pass fundamental data types back and forth (i.e. no object references). You'd expose the method(s) of that wrapper DLL to the database via external procedures.

Register your Shell Script as a concurrent program, Executable execution method "Host", then use fnd_request.submit_request to submit the program.

Calling a URL from a Java Stored Procedure
Hi,
I'm trying to call a URL from a Java Stored Procedure in Oracle 8.1.7(Windows 2000). The ultimate goal is to call this stored procedure from a database trigger. The status of the object remains invalid in the database even after compilation and publishing without any errors. The code follows. Any suggestions/alternatives to accomplish this would be appreciated.
Java Stored Procedure:
CREATE OR REPLACE JAVA SOURCE NAMED "UPDATEATTR" AS
import java.net.*;
import java.util.*;
import java.io.*;
public class UpdateAttr {
public static String testmain() {
ObjectInputStream is;
URL url;
String uri =
"http://www.yahoo.com";
try {
//calling the URL
url = new URL(uri);
URLConnection yahooConnection = yahoo.openConnection();
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace(System.err);
return "TEST_SUCCESSFUL";
Code to Publish it:
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION setNewAttributes return VARCHAR2
AS LANGUAGE JAVA NAME
'UpdateAttr.testmain() return String';
Thanks in advance.
RisSmall mistake in the previous post. The object still has a status of "INVALID" though. The Java stored procedure should actually read:
Java Stored Procedure:
CREATE OR REPLACE JAVA SOURCE NAMED "UPDATEATTR" AS
import java.net.*;
import java.util.*;
import java.io.*;
public class UpdateAttr {
public static String testmain() {
ObjectInputStream is;
URL url;
String uri =
"http://www.yahoo.com";
try {
//calling the URL
URL yahoo = new URL(uri);
URLConnection yahooConnection = yahoo.openConnection();
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace(System.err);
return "TEST_SUCCESSFUL";
Code to Publish it:
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION setNewAttributes return
VARCHAR2
AS LANGUAGE JAVA NAME
'UpdateAttr.testmain() return String';

How can I call a java object from Web dynpro ABAP application?
I made Web dynpro ABAP application and posted it to SAP EP.
For certain business purpose, we need to call external 3rd party java object using 3rd party's java api in Web dynpro application.
Is there anybody who experienced this kind of java interface issue?
I know Web dynpro Java environment can fully support this kind of requirement. but regarding Web dynpro ABAP, I couldn't find any clue for this.
Any comment or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Raymond, ABAP Consultantif you have jco configured, then you can make calls to java api from ABAP .

I can get it to work by the java source containing:
public static void copyfile(java.lang.String fromFile,java.lang.String toFile) throws AccessControlExceptionAnd the PL/SQL source:
NAME 'FileCopy.copyfile(java.lang.String,java.lang.String)'; // calling a java methodSeems like when you just use "String", then the namespace resolving in the java source is not the same as the namespace resolving in the PL/SQL?
Addendum:
You do not need to put java.lang.String in the java source, String will do (java.lang is by default "imported"?)
But in the PL/SQL source java.lang namespace prefix is needed - java.lang is not "imported" here.

And because your comments are 'in response to: rp0428' the word "you're" is generally going to be interpreted to mean 'rp0428' unless you indicate otherwise.
If you had responded to OP that word "you're" would mean you are telling OP to

It isn't a question of 'right'; it is a question of how to address your remarks to the proper person so that that person KNOWS the remarks are meant for them.
Here's an easy way for you to remember who to reply to: it is the same person you would LOOK at if you were in the same room with them.
You would be looking at me while you were listening to my comments. Then you would turn and look at OP when you made yours. In the forum you accomplish that by using the 'reply' link on one of OP's comments.
If, for some reason, you did want to make comments to both of us in your one reply then pick one to reply to, even me, and then preface your comment to OP like this:
>
-- comment here for rp0428 - but you didn't make any
OP: first make sure that the database user you're using . . .

See how that 'OP:' prefix makes it clear that, even though your comments are 'in response to: rp0428' that particular comment is meant for OP?

How can i run an OS command in a stored procedure?
Hi, I'm creating a stored procedure in which I need to copy a file from one directory to another.
I know that in Forms, this can be done with the "host" function, but it doesn't work in the stored procedure.
I read something in a forum about using the DBMS_SCHEDULER, with a sentence like this:
DBMS_SCHEDULER.CREATE_PROGRAM('OS_Command', 'EXECUTABLE', v_command, 0, TRUE );
where v_command is a string containing the cp command I need to execute.
Would this be correct? And would this sentence be enough for the command to be executed instantly?

Empty strings when passing a Java object to a Stored Procedure
Hi,
I'm using the interface SQLData to pass Java objects to StoredProcedures. All the object's attributes 'arrive' to the Stored Procedure ok, except the strings, which are empty.
Here is my Oracle object:
TYPE OBJ_ASJFF_OBJ1 IS OBJECT (
ARG1 CHAR(3),
ARG2 NUMBER(4),
ARG3 CHAR(4),
ARG4 NUMBER(7),
ARG5 NUMBER(13,2),
ARG6 CHAR(1));
The nested table of that object:
TYPE TAB_ASJFF_OBJ1 AS TABLE OF OBJ_ASJFF_OBJ1;
The procedure declaration:
PROCEDURE Pup_Instaura_Processo ( x_crCert IN TAB_ASJFF_OBJ1,
x_cResult OUT CHAR(4)
My SQLData implementation:
public void writeSQL(SQLOutput stream) throws SQLException {
stream.writeString(getArg1());
stream.writeInt(getArg2().intValue());
stream.writeString(getArg3());
stream.writeLong(getArg4().longValue());
stream.writeBigDecimal(getArg5());
stream.writeString(getArg6());
Can anybody help me?
Thanks in advance

Calling XML API's from Java Stored Procedures in DB
Hi,
I am have and Oracle 10gR2 db installed and XML Publisher Enterprise Server 5.6.2.
I have created the following Java Class and used loadjava to make it a Java Stored Procedure:
<code>
import java.io.IOException;
import java.lang.Object;
import oracle.apps.xdo.XDOException;
import oracle.apps.xdo.template.FOProcessor;
import oracle.apps.xdo.template.RTFProcessor;
public class callingXMLP{
public static String rtfToXsl(String rtfFile, String xslFile)
try {
RTFProcessor rtfProcessor = new RTFProcessor(rtfFile); //Input RTF
rtfProcessor.setOutput(xslFile);
rtfProcessor.process();
} catch (IOException IOE) {
return" Error "+IOE.getMessage();}
catch(XDOException XDE ){
return" Error "+XDE.getMessage();
return "Success";
public static String mergeXmlXsl(String xmlFile, String xslFile, String outputFile)
FOProcessor processor = new FOProcessor();
processor.setData(xmlFile); //Input XML File
processor.setTemplate(xslFile); //Input XSL File
processor.setOutput(outputFile); //Ouput File
processor.setOutputFormat(FOProcessor.FORMAT_PDF);
//start processing
try {
processor.generate();
catch (XDOException e){
e.printStackTrace();
//System.exit(1);
return "Error - "+e.getMessage();
//System.exit(0);
return "Success";
</code>
I then wrap this using the following function spec in pl/sql:
create or replace function callXMLP(input1 VARCHAR2, output1 VARCHAR2) RETURN VARCHAR2
as language java name 'callingXMLP.rtfToXsl(java.lang.String,java.lang.String) return java.lang.String';
and
create or replace function mergeXMLXSL(xml VARCHAR2, xsl VARCHAR2, output VARCHAR2) RETURN VARCHAR2
as language java name 'callingXMLP.mergeXmlXsl(java.lang.String,java.lang.String,java.lang.String) return java.lang.String';
Calling the callXMLP function works fine, and produces an XSL file from the input RTF file as expected.
When I run the mergeXMLXSL function, it says that the function has completed successfully, but it seems to be throwing an XDOException error as it is returning "Error - null" message from the Java.
A PDF document is being created, but it does not have any content. I have also modified the Java to create an RTF instead, but still the same thing happens.
Is there anything that I need to check, or something that I am missing when trying to create the final PDF document?
Please help, I am completely stuck with this now.

Newbie question on how to return java objects from java stored procedures
Hi,
As you may guess, i'm new to this.
I have a stored procedure that does some calculations and creates a list of java objects as the result of the query.
How would I return the list from the database to the client application?
Would I have to create an Oracle type that maps to the java object?
Please help.
JagHi Jag,
Your question is very vague (to me). Perhaps you could post what you have done so far? Have you tried looking through the Sample Code page of the Technet Web site, or tried searching the Ask tom Web site, or MetaLink?
Good Luck,

VenuHi Venu,
>>1) Get the input parametrs for SP in from file
You can pass parameters to the SP from the payload of the message. I am not sure what do you mean by "Getting the parameters for SP in form file"..
>>2 Configure Receiver JDBC adapter(Synchronous)which executes a STORED PROCEDURE that has some processing logic containing more than one sql statment
This is no problem. You can have any number of select /update statements inside the stored procedure. But your stored procedure will not return data to XI and that will not be sent as a response to your BPM
3) Send the response from SP to a BPM
yes.You can have another Stored procedure that have only one select statement to send response to BPM. You may have to define abstract interfaces .
hence for 2) and 3) the message payload would be something like this
<StatementName1>
<storedProcedureName action= EXECUTE>
<table>realStoredProcedureeName</table>
<param1 [isInput=true] [isOutput=true] type=SQLDatatype>val1</param1>
</storedProcedureName >
</StatementName1>
<StatementName2>
<anyName action= SQL_QUERY>
<access>SQL-String with optional placeholder(s)</access>
<key>
<placeholder1>value1</placeholder1>
<placeholder2>value2<placeholder2>
</key>
</anyName >
</StatementName2>
